A mid-18thC oak longcase clock, with moulded pillar hood with verre-eglomise frieze, quarter inset trunk with full length and shaped door, moulded and panelled base with bracket feet, the 30cm brass dial having applied rococo spandrels, silver chapter ring with Roman hour and Arabic minute numerals, the matted centrefield engraved and bearing date crescent, marked Sl. Lawson KEIGHLEY, thirty hour movement, 205cm high.
An Edwardian mahogany and chequer-banded bow fronted china display cabinet, having raised back shelf and bevelled mirror insert, the interior fabric lined shelves enclosed by a glazed leaded panelled door, fitted under-tier below, raised on square tapering supports and spade feet, 63cm wide x 170cm high
Ireland – the Civil War 1920 diary of an unnamed man, but most probably Brig General John Francis Purcell of Robertstown House, Kells, Co Meath, with comments on most days written in a neat hand in ink an commenting on day to day activities, the weather etc. This diary was however compiled at the height of the Irish Civil War and there are references throughout to the troubles that were taking place around Purcell: ‘...raids for arms on John Farrell. James Madden during night. Asked O’Reilly if I may put another cow on pasture. Saw father McManus on way to Reilly’s who said ‘You won’t be raided’...’ ‘Father McManus spoke of ‘Novena’ for ‘peace in Ireland’ in terms of Freeman’s Journal. I did not attend Novena as his remarks commit one to Sinn Fein...’ ‘...knock at door 10pm, found three men who said they were looking for arms. Said that I had none. After short discussing they departed...’
A Large 18th Century Giltwood & Painted Wall Clock. The box- frame case having a crested top rail; the oval centre carved with a profile portrait of a soldier flanked by chinoiserie style figures and surmounted by gilded ball knop finials. The wooden clock face with a painted chapter ring bordering a depiction of Orithyia being carried off by Boreas; the North Wind. The pendulum aperture surrounded by a sea-scape with ship in the distance and a man reclined against a tree. Framed by an [unglazed] door with a painted border highlighted with gilding above a shaped apron. 39 ins x 28 ins x 6½ ins (100 cms x 71 cms x 16.5 cms).
A Fine 17th Century Ebonised Table Cabinet. The top & sides mounted with pierced brass corner brackets and two carrying handles. The front fitted with nine ripple moulded ebonised drawers inset with engraved bone panels capturing scenes of rural life with men hunting, fishing and defecating in landscape, bordered by bone divides enriched with pen-work embellishments. The long central door inlaid with an arched panel depicting a young woman above a lower panel with a reclining soldier. The door opening to reveal a marbled paper lined interior housing two small drawers flanking a winged cherub-head divide that fronts a secret sliding drawer. Raised on bun feet 20½ ins (52 cms) in height, 24¾ ins (63 cms) in width, 11¾ ins (30 cms) in depth.
A Fine 17th Century Carved & Spindled Mural Cupboard. The upper section having two doors enclosing a shelved interior revealed through the open panel of six turned spindles and framed by bordering rails ornamented with foliate S-scrolls. The base section with a single rectangular door boldly carved with foliage and flanked by panels carved with U-form bands of foliate S-scrolls. 28 ins (71 cms) in height, 30 ins (76 cms) in width, 10 ins (25 cms) in depth.
A Charming Late 17th Century Welsh Dome Top Mural Cupboard. The joined oak front having an arched top rail carved with three rose diamonds, inscribed with the initials H.F and dated 1693. The run-moulding decoratively incised with zig-zag motif. The rectangular door on iron butterfly hinges and a central diamond carved with a rose. 19½ ins (50 cms) in height, 21 ins (53 cms) in width, 8 ins (20 cms) in depth.
A Fabulous James I Livery Cupboard. The upper section carved with broken S-scrolls enriched with foliage and supported on substantial bulbous cup & cover side posts flanking a recessed cupboard. The central cupboard door ornamented with a petalled demi-lune and flanked by guilloche carved side panels. The bulge front centre frieze housing a drawer hung on side runners embellished with chains of foliated S-scrolls and raised on bulbous supports echoing the upper posts with acanthus decoration to the cup & covers. The whole terminating on block feet connected by rails supporting a planked base shelf, 49 ins (125 cms) high, 49 ins (125 cms) wide, 21½ ins (55 cms) deep.
A Splendid Elizabethan/James I Marquetried Oak Court Cupboard. The thin two plank top above a nulled frieze. The cupboard door flanked by side panels inlaid with stylised `tree of life` marquetry in contrasting timbers and recessed into deep moulded frames enriched with `thumb-gouged` carving and divided by palmate muntins. The cupboard raised on bulbous cup & cover posts above a middle tier incorporating a long gadrooned bulge front drawer, and base shelf resting on run-moulded rails united by block feet. The whole having a rich patination. 48 ins (122 cms) in height, 42½ ins (108 cms) in width, 18 ins (46 cms) in depth.
A 17th Century Oak Credence Cupboard. The top having a moulded edge above a frieze drawer enhanced with chip carved bands & zig-zag incised borders. The single panel door on iron butterfly hinges and similarly carved canted sides. The column turned legs joined by block stretchers. 28¾ ins (73 cms) in height, 43 ins (109 cms) in width, 18 ins (46 cms) in depth.
A 16th Century Oak Dressoir. The upper section having a cavetto moulded cornice above the cupboard section with canted and fielded panel sides, the door on shaped iron hinges above a single frieze drawer. The lower section having two front columns flanked by pendant knop finials and the shelf forming the base. 55½ ins (127 cms) in height, 41 ins (105 cms) in width, 21½ ins (55 cms) in depth.
A Small Early 18th Century Joined Oak Side Cabinet. The planked top having cleated ends above a panelled cupboard with a door to one side fitted with an ornately cast brass escutcheon and standing on cannon barrel legs with square block feet united by peripheral stretchers, 31 ins (79 cms) high, 34 ins (87 cms) wide, 17 ins (43 cms) deep.
A Rare 17th Century Oak Dome Top Mural Cupboard. The arched top rail carved with three flower head squares above a run-moulded band highlighted with punchwork. The single door on iron butterfly hinges centred by a carved panel of latticed floral squares enriched with punchwork borders. 19¾ ins (50 cms) in height, 20 ins (51 cms) in width, 9½ ins (24 cms) in depth.
A 17th Century Joined Oak Cupboard of small proportions. The two plank top with double moulded edge above a single panel door drilled with perforations displaying the date 1603 beside a smaller panel of ventilation holes forming the initials H.W. The four finely carved baluster legs enriched with fluting and united by run-moulded stretchers above ball feet. 30 ins (77 cms) in height, 34 is (86 cms) in width, 17¾ ins (45 cms) in depth.
A Fabulous Late 16th/Early 17th Century Inlaid Oak Livery Cupboard. The thin plank top above a frieze of carved arabesque strapwork divided by nulled appliqués and supported on imposing front posts carved in the form of heraldic lions; their front paws resting upon shields. The canted cupboard having a marquetried door and side panels depicting pots of flowering plants in heavily moulded & carved frames with bevelled jewel-work ornamentation to the vertical divides. The gadrooned bulge front frieze drawer below raised on bulbous carved and reeded cup & cover supports leading down to a base shelf resting on a rail of beveled appliqués and stile feet. 52 ins (133 cms) high, 51 ins (131 cms) wide, 16 ins (41 cms) deep.
