Lot 1116

A Regency single fusee drop dial wall clock, mahogany, with Roman numerals, brass bezel and brass stringing to the case. Dial diameter 12 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in good original untouched, un estored condition. The case is dirty and dry but principally complete and without any significant problems. The right hand door has been replaced. The brass bezel is original as is the glass. The face is tired and the numerals require repainting. The marks from the pillars are visible from the front. The movement, dial and case belong together and we have the original pendulum.

Lot 1147

A Victorian boule marquetry mantle clock, with gilt metal mounts and two-train striking movement by Vincenti & Company. Height 11.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The mantle clock is ticking. The only real issue with the piece is that the rear right hand foot has been replaced with a wooden support. We have the key and pendulum. There is no lifting to the brasswork to the front of the clock. The left hand side has slight lifting but this is not problematic. The right hand side has slight lifting and one 1/2 cm section of brass scrollwork missing. Again this is a minor loss. The dial and ceramic tablets are in good order as is the door and glass face.

Lot 1165

A George III mahogany longcase clock, by James Gray of Edinburgh, with swans neck pediment above the 12 inch arched painted dial with Roman numerals, two-train movement and subsidiary date and seconds dials, flanked by fluted columns and with long trunk door and raised on bracket feet. Height 87 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The case is a typical Edinburgh type case and we believe that the item is not a marriage. The cheeks of the case have not been built up and the seatboard appears old. The mask around the face fits reasonably well. The swans neck pediment has old cracks running from left to right but there are no losses. The fretwork beneath is in good order. The glazed door is loose at the top hinge but there are no losses. The trunk door is not warped. The face of the clock and sides are also in good order. The clock case has probably been repolished at sometime within the last 10 years but this has been done reasonably well. The clock face centre has been restored and the numerals, subsidiary dials and makers name have all been repainted. The blue corner spandrels and arch appear to be in their original condition. The clock is currently ticking away. There are minor losses to the top left and right hand corners of the swans neck pediment but these losses are not significant.

CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally good order. There is no damage to the swans neck pediment. The backboards, top, shelves and base are original. An early 19th century stained pine longcase clock, with swans neck pediment above the arched glazed door enclosing the dial painted with spandrels emblematic of The Continents and with Britannia scene to arch, with eight-day striking movement. Height 76.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: We have the pendulum and a weight. The pendulum is damaged. If weight is applied to the chain the movement appears to run. The case is tatty but principally complete. There are numerous surface scratches and scuffs but no significant damage. The movement and dial are clearly quite dirty and there are some minor paint loss to the dial itself.

Lot 1243

A George III oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock by John Stancliffe, with swans neck pediment above the arched brass dial, with eight day movement, moon phase, date aperture, subsidiary seconds dial, silvered chapter ring and Roman numerals, flanked by fluted columns with brass capitals, with long trunk door beneath and with conforming base raised on ogee bracket feet. Height 91 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock maybe a marriage. The cheeks have not been built up however they may have been completely replaced at some point. The mask around the top of the arch is in two pieces which is also not usual. Having said this the fit around the dial is good and the clock does not look like a marriage from the outside and may well not be. The case is in generally good condition. The hood is in good order. The door is in good condition and not warped. The clock appears to be ticking away as it should and appears to be striking also. There are some minor losses to the blind fretwork around the collar above the door. The trunk door is flat and not warped and the case base is in very good condition. The bracket feet are original and in good order also.

Lot 1250

Lot 1254

An Edwardian mahogany grandmother clock, in the George III style, with three-train fusee musical movement, eight bells, four gongs and strike gong, with both Westminster and Eight Bells chime, with moon phase to the arch, face width 9 ins, with long trunk door beneath flanked by quarter column corners and raised on splayed bracket feet. CONDITION REPORT: The height to the top of the finial is 86.5 ins. Width across the bottom of the hood 15 ins. Depth at deepest point 9 ins. The case is in generally very good condition and does not require any repair or restoration. The trunk door is not warped and there are no serious splits, cracks or significant problems with the case. The only cracks in evidence are on the left and the right hand side returns of the top of the pagoda hood. These are simply stress fractures and in our opinion fairly insignificant. The clock is triple fusee and is currently ticking away. The movement is a little dirty and does wind on all three trains. The movement does strike and chime when operated manually by moving the pointers, this is a little sporadic because the movement does need cleaning. As stated as far as we can tell the only real issue is that the movement requires a clean and lubrication.

Lot 1266

A Victorian mahogany bedside cabinet, with marble top, single door and plinth base. Width 15 ins.

Lot 1271

Lot 1299

A George III mahogany bedside cabinet, with tray type top, ebony strung door and raised on turned legs united by a low circular shelf. Width 13 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This cabinet is structurally sound. The gallery is in good order. The top has evidence of old water stains and perishing polish. The door has its original hinges and knob handle. The veneer is cracked and lifting to the top right hand corner and there is a small loss approximately 2 cm square to the centre left of the door above the ebony line inlay. The sides of the piece are scuffed and slightly marked in places and there are hairline stress cracks to both sides. The rear of the piece is similar. The four legs are in good order as are the stretchers and circular shelf.

Height 75 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We do not think that this clock is a marriage even through the construction below the seatboard is a little strange. The case and movement are certainly of the correct period and the case is very similar to other Lough clocks that we have seen. The dial fits the mask very well. The case is in very good order generally. The hood has only one problem, namely a cracked glass. Below the hood there is some of the dentil work missing, approximately 2 ins on the right hand return and 1 inch on the left. The remainder of the case is in very good condition. The clock is currently ticking away and striking as it should.

There is a small section of veneer missing on the underside edge of the left hand return and another small section at the rear of the right hand return. These are fairly minor. The centre door is in generally good condition and is not warped. The side doors are in similarly good order. The interior linings are in good condition and the interior drawers are all present. There are some scuffs to the base and some very minor veneer losses in places but no significant issues.

Width 28 ins, height 94 ins, depth 19 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This piece is in good, untouched, original, unrestored condition. The giltwood pediment has a loss to the left hand side and to the top scroll. The cornice is in generally good order. The door is not warped. The mirror plate is beginning to perish. The lock is original and present. There is a section of beading missing to the left hand side of the door. This runs for approximately 12 ins from the bottom left hand corner up the side. This should be visible from our image. The base is in generally good order. The return moulding to the left of the bookcase top is detached but we have the piece. The same comments apply to the right hand side. The bureau flap is flat and not warped. The interior is fairly plain but all present. The handles and lock escutcheons to the drawer fronts appear original. The left and right hand lopers have old damage to the fronts. The top drawer is in good order as is the second and fourth drawers. The third drawer has a loss to the top left hand corner. The bracket feet are in good condition and appear to be original. The sides of the bureau base are in generally good order with no significant damage or splitting. The back boards are original.

Lot 1492

A Victorian walnut pedestal sideboard, with rear upstand, plate glass top and fitted with a frieze drawer flanked on either side by a panelled cupboard with corbals and raised on a plinth base. Width 79 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The sideboard is in generally very good condition. It is however a base from a larger piece and will at some point have had a superstructure. The left hand door has a piece of moulding from the top left hand panel which is loose. We have the piece. The centre drawer is in good order as is the right hand cupboard door. The sides of the piece are in very good condition as is the back. The plinth base is in good order also. The item could be used or resold in its current condition without the need for any repair or restoration but as stated please bear in mind that the piece has had a mirror back and that there are four dowel hole repairs in the top and marks where the back has been supported.

Lot 1493

A George III oak and mahogany longcase clock, with moulded cornice above a painted frieze and square door enclosing the 13 inch square painted dial and eight day striking movement by Geo. Hewitt Marlborough, with Arabic numerals, moon phase and spandrels emblematic of The Continents, flanked by cluster columns, with crossbanded frieze beneath, long trunk door and raised on bracket feet. Height 80.5 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally good condition. There is no damage and no losses of any note. We have the pendulum and two weights. We have not had the clock going but if weight is applied to the movement the clock appears to operate as it should.

Lot 1499

A George III standing oak corner cabinet, bleached, with glazed upper half, canted angles and plinth base. Width 29.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The corner cupboard is structurally fairly solid. It is however generally a little tired. There are various dents, knocks and small losses to the cornice. The bottom left hand glass pane has a small crack which should be visible from our image. The canted angles on the top and base are both a little scuffed and marked. The moulding at the front of the top half is slightly loose. The bottom door is currently locked and we do not have a key. They are usually easy to open. It looks as if this piece has been stripped and limed. The overall effect is quite good but the estimate reflects the general nature of the piece.

Lot 1501

An early 19th century oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock by James Scott of Kendal, with painted dial, two-train striking movement, the case with swans pediment, cluster columns and raised on bracket feet. Height 85 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally good order. There are some minor veneer losses to the glazed door which should be evident from our image. The trunk door is not warped and the base is in generally good order also. We have both weights and the pendulum but have not had the clock running. The movement seems to be complete. The dial is also very clean and does not require any restoration.

Lot 1505

A 19th century oak panelled bacon settle, with two cupboards above a box seat with lift up compartment, with panelled front and raised on short feet. Width 39 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This piece comes in to two sections. The top box lifts off. The settle is in very sound structural condition but is as you see it in the image. The timber has obviously been uniformly stained at some point in its life and some of this surface stain has rubbed off around the edges of the top door, the centre door and the base of the seat. The back panels to the piece are original and in good order. The side panels are in very good condition. The front of the seat base is a little worn but flat and in generally good condition. The interior of the piece is fine also. The maximum width of the piece across the cornice is 42.75 ins. The maximum depth of the piece is 30.5 ins from front to back at ground level. The width across the arms is 39 ins, height to top of bench seat 17.75 ins, depth of seat 14.5 ins, depth of cupboard 11.25 ins, depth of top cupboard 12.75 ins.
