These charming little books were hand-made by the architect and designer Brook Taylor Kitchin (ca. 1869-1940) for his nieces and nephews, i.e. the six children of his older sister Alexandra Rhoda Kitchin, or "Xie", who married Arthur Cardew in 1890. "Xie" was the favourite photographic model of Charles Dodgson, with approximately 50 photographs having been taken of her by him. Brook himself appeared in the famous "St. George and the Dragon" photographs taken by Dodgson in the mid 1870's.

A French ormolu mantel clock, late 19th c, in Louis XVI style, the breakarched case crested by Cupid's quiver and torch flanked by cornucopia on bow ended base, having enamel dial, filigree hands and bell striking movement, the medallic back plate stamped OLLIVANT & BOTSFORD PARIS & MANCESTER, pendulum, 43cm h Much dirt and movement dusty / oily, complete but for loss of bell and back door, two small holes either side of arch of top where presumably an element was once affixed, now lacking, lacking also one of the two back feet, hands original and undamaged, enamel dial undamaged, retaining most of the gilding but dirty, original and unrestored

A 19th Century oak longcase clock, by Walton Crawford of Scarborough, the 11 1/2in. white enamel dial with roman hours and subsidiary date dial, the arched painted with a pastoral scene, contained within an oak and mahogany hood with broken swan neck pediment above ring turned columns, above a shaped waist door and box base, raised on shaped bracket feet, 218cms high.
