MID 18TH CENTURY WELSH OAK LONGCASE CLOCK, by John Roberts, Wrexham, the arched top brass dial with 'John Roberts, Wrexham 1765' plate, flagged by pierced dolphins, the 11in. brass dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, chased central decoration and mask spandrels, the hood with broken swan neck pediment and urn finial, single arch top glazed door with flanking fluted pillars and brass caps, the trunk with crossbanded shaped top door and quarter cut fluted side pillars on a stepped base with corner bracket feet, 8-day two-train weight-driven movement, pendulum weights and winding key included, 220cms overall H, 49cms W Provenance: private collection north Wales Condition Report: urn finial replaced, restored hood moulding, base with splits, dial cleaned and re-lacquered.
DOCUMENTARY MID-19TH CENTURY WELSH MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK, by John Jones, Aberystwyth, c.1845, swan neck pediment, breakarch hood with twisted columns, above trunk with shaped door and twisted columns, on circular panelled base raised on turned feet, well painted 13in. Roman dial with moonphase in the arch, St Peter and St Paul in the globes, spandrels with figures allegorical of the continents, centre painted with the Angel appearing to Jacob at Peniel (Genesis XXXII, 24-30), subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, the 8-day two-train weight-driven anchor escapement rack striking a bell, 220cm high. Provenance: Cardiff private collector of Aberystwyth art and antiques. Auctioneers Note: published in William Linnard, Wales: Clocks & Clockmakers, 2003, p. 90-91, fig 6.21 and back cover. John Jones is recorded as working as a clockmaker, repairer and retailer at various addresses in Aberystwyth between 1828 and 1868. A Victorian walnut and marquetry inlaid display cabinet, in the manner of Seddon, mid 19th century, the later top above a marquetry inlaid glazed door between spiral turned supports, three plate glass shelves within, on cabriole legs with pad feet, 55cm by 31cm by 136cm . The top is later and possibly formerly fitted with marble. The timber is dry and faded with variations in colour. There are scuffs to the front two legs. All plate glass shelves are chipped.

A late George III mahogany floor standing corner cupboard, with a moulded cornice over an astragal glazed two door upper section above a two-door cupboard, on bracket feet, 88cm by 50cm (approx) by 209cm. Separates for transport. One glass panel is cracked, other glass panels with surfaces scratches, wooden with dents and surface scratches, the base is slightly faded in parts
An imposing dark Mahogany cased Long-case Clock with a painted face "Wm. James, Bath", with Roman numeral hour markers, Arabic numeral minutes, the corners painted with Rose blooms and having rolling moon phases to the arch, an inset seconds dial beneath the 12 o'clock position and a square date window directly beneath the hands spindle. The three-train musical bells movement striking the hours on a bell and playing an appealing tune on the six bells. The case has a long door flanked by reeded quarter-pillars and has a tall hood with three spherical brass finials, the central one surmounted by an Eagle. 92 3/4'' high x 19'' wide x 10 3/4'' deep. Running quite accurately and tunefully during the days of cataloguing.
An early Oak Hutch/Cupboard of very primitive design, the carved and panelled door having blacksmith made iron butterfly hinges and with a carved cross piece over and scratch moulded to either side. 25 3/4'' wide x 33 3/4'' high x 14'' deep. (The following lot and this lot have stood together for some considerable time).
A fine quality Oak cased Long-case Clock having a brass face with three rocking galleons under full sail on azure seas to the arch with a curved band over with the words "NOTHING IS SO DEAR AND PRECIOUS AS TIME". The face has pierced cast brass spandrels, each depicting an Angelic face surrounded with trailing foliage, engraved foliage decoration to the centre, the silvered chapter ring having Roman hour numerals and Arabic minutes, an inset minute dial below the twelve o'clock and a circular date window above the six o'clock and with the name "Jos. Booth, Dublin" to the base. The arched hood with side inspection windows has the door flanked by turned pillars and is topped by two gilded spherical finials. The 8 day movement has the brass plates united by five turned pillars with annular bosses and strikes the hours on a bell. In running order at the time of cataloguing. 87 1/2" high, 21" wide.
