Old chips, cracks and splits. some old repairs and replaced sections. Additional dark marks and scratches in areas. There are dark ring marks to the top of the baseVarious wear, loss and scratching to the surface (please see images)The plate rack top appears to 'match' the base well but is probably associated to the base. The elements of the rack that rest on the base at the sides are possibly old additions/ replacements. The screws used to secure the current rack have made newer holes to the top of thew base. Alternate holes are present from previous fixtures. The metalware is all later replaced apart from the door hing.es, but in mid 18th century period style. There are plugged holes to the top drawers and cupboard doors from placement of previous metalware The lock to the central drawer is lacking. The drawers beneath are all false drawers and do not operate. The drawers at the sides of the uppermost central drawer only have false key escutcheons and have never been fitted with locks. The cupboards have later replaced locks and a key to operate them. There are two later screwed in timber elements to the interior of the rear panels (see images) likely to secure the position of the existing panels. Good original surface overall. Will accept wax polish well. Some old worm damage as expected for age but in areas of interior timber and back boards. Overall very little worm damage is visible to the exterior immediately apart from the rear edge of the top (particularly of the upper plate rack is removed. Provenance:Purchased by the vendor from Dukes, Dorchester sale of Silver, Jewellery and Furniture Thursday 9th April 1998 (lot 838) for £2,800 hammer.Condition Report: The movement is in good original working condition with no visible evidence of alteration or noticeable replacements. The mechanism is a little dirty/discoloured so a gentle clean/service may be advisable. The Brockbanks signature is engraved to a separate plate which is screwed to the backplate, as this could be an addition we cannot offer any assurances that the present clock is by Brockbankes. The dial appears to have been refinished and is in good condition with visible faults limited to very light edge chipping to the left-hand winding hole. Again, as the dial has been refinished, we cannot offer any assurances that it was originally signed for Brockbanks. The case is generally in good presentable condition. The superstructure probably has a concave section applied to the top of the dome hence the present cushion-shaped pad is probably a replacement. The veneers to the caddy exhibit some movement and the finials are probably later additions. Each of the side apertures has a small veneer patch repair to the edge overlap otherwise faults to the case are very much limited to minor shrinkage and a few very minor age related bumps, scuffs and other blemishes.Clock has a crank winder and a case key.
