An 18th Century French walnut and burr panelled armoire in the Louis XV Provincial taste, raised on squat cabriole supports CONDITION REPORTS Has signs of old worm throughout and some evidence of new. Has had various repairs throughout. Splits to the wood especially noticeable on the front door panels and replacement locks. Wear and tear conducive with age and use to include scratches, knocks, bumps etc throughout. Full measurements 200 cm high x 140 cm wide and 52 cm deep (external) and 47 cm deep (internal). A pair of late 19th Century painted and caned bed ends in the French taste, a painted single door cupboard of slim proportions and a painted triple dressing mirror CONDITION REPORTS Dimensions of the bed ends are approx 116.5 cm wide x 113.5 cm high. No side bars or slats - as is. Condition "shabby chic". Various scuffs, knocks, bumps, signs of old worm, etc. Several splits and two or three large holes to the top of each end. Various repairs and replacements throughout. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for details.
An oak full tester bedstead in the 17th Century manner (probably 19th Century in construction using many early elements), the wagon canopy top over a carved panelled back with figural stiles, the centre panel as a cupboard door, the posts of turned and fluted form (Provenance: once at Avebury Manor, Wiltshire)
A pair of 19th Century mahogany bookcase cabinets with glazed and bared cabinet doors over drawers, one a secretaire and two arched cupboard doors 254cm tall by 192cm wide CONDITION REPORTS Originally two sections of a larger piece requiring plenty of attention and restoration throughout. Three pieces of cornice scrollwork - one missing, one still attached, two loose. Left glass broken to top, two pieces of beading below it missing, door panels cracked x 3, areas of veneer missing to the right hand side of cabinet door. See image for further details. A Georgian oak dresser base, fitted with three frieze drawers above a pair of panelled cupboard doors and all raised on stile feet. CONDITION REPORT: The top is made from two planks. There is a shrinkage gap between the two planks of approximately 3 mm. The top is however flat and has no significant damage. The drawer fronts are in generally good order although there is evidence of a previous set of handles. The cupboard doors are in good condition and are not warped. The right door is missing its lock escutcheon. All front panels are in good condition and not cracked. The side panels are in good order with no cracks. The backboards are original. The rear stile feet have been replaced by a full length supporting plank which sits behind and beneath the backboards. Height 96 cm, depth 52.5 cm, width 155 cm.
An Ansonia wall clock, large form, with two-train striking movement and with moulded cornice. Height 90 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement is fully wound on the left hand facing train. It winds on the other. The clock is currently ticking away and strikes when advanced. The face although dirty is in good condition with no issues. The circular glass to the case door is missing. The case itself is structurally sound but does have several minor surface marks and scuffs. The case is very dusty.
A 19th century longcase clock, with eight day movement, the case with swans neck pediment, short trunk door and conforming base. Height 209 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have two weights and a pendulum with this clock. We have not had the clock set up and running. We do not have a key. The movement looks to be complete and is in reasonably clean condition. The face is as you see it in the image a little dirty. The second pointer is missing. The hood is in generally good condition with no losses and only minor stress fractures to the veneers. The glass would appear to be original. The trunk door is not warped. The sides of the case are in good condition also. The base has some veneer losses to the right hand top corner and further down near the bottom. The bracket feet are missing. The backboards are original. In our opinion the movement and case may not have always been together.
A George III mahogany linen press, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing shelves, the base fitted with four long graduated drawers and raised on bracket feet. Width 126 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The detachable cornice requires gluing at the corner joints. All of the Greek key moulding is present however there are some losses and scuffs to the top edge moulding. The right hand door is very slightly warped at the bottom edge. When the door is closed the warp is not evident. Both door panels are in generally good condition. The right hand door has a small piece of moulding missing in the top right hand corner. The moulding just above the right hand corner of the door has a 10 cm loss. The door lock is present and we have the key. The sides of the press are in generally good order with no significant splits. The right hand side has had hooks which have been removed leaving the screw holes. The right hand return moulding at the top of the base is missing. The left hand return moulding has a partial loss at the rear corner. The drawers all have sections of cockbeading missing and three of the handles have damage to the turned section that butts onto the drawer front. There are other small veneer losses between the drawers. The bottom drawer lock is missing. The bracket feet are in generally good order. The backboards are original.
A George III oak and mahogany cased grandfather clock, with brass dial and eight day striking movement by Malkin Kirkby, with moon phase, complete with pendulum and weights. Height 219 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have two weights and the pendulum. Both trains wind and when weight is applied to both the strike and going train the movement appears to operate as it should. When the hands are advanced the date advances also. The movement is a little dirty and would perhaps benefit from a clean. The moon phase appears to advance as it should. The moon phase has clearly been repainted. The hood has a cracked glass. The top left brass roundel is damaged. The section of moulding above the inlaid shell is partially missing. The left hand return moulding at the top of the case has been detached and badly glued. The Greek key inlay beneath the crossbanded frieze is a little damaged at the left corner but not significantly. The trunk door is not warped. The case polish is however a little dry and faded particularly to the front door and base. The surround to the inlaid shell on the base is a little perished. The bracket feet to the front and sides of the base are scuffed and worn. The backboards are original.
An early Victorian mahogany bookcase, the top half with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors, the base fitted with one drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing shelves. Width 84.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in good condition all around. The glazed doors are not warped. The glass is not cracked. The lock is currently detached. We do however have the lock and the key. The lock itself is very dry and stiff. There are scuffs and nibbles to the middle edges of each upper door. There is a small section of moulding missing on the left hand return beneath the bookcase top. The drawer runs as it should and is in generally good order. The sides of the bookcase have numerous small dings and marks but no significant cracks. The lower doors are not warped. They close as they should. The lock is present. The interior tray and shelves are present. The plinth base is in generally good order.
A mahogany cased grandmother clock, with three-train spring driven striking movement and with roundel to the base. Height 173 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on all three trains. It appears to be ticking away but is not striking when manually advanced. There does not appear to be anything missing from the movement and all gongs and hammers are present. We have the pendulum. We do not have a key for either the hood or trunk door. The doors are locked. The case is in extremely good condition with only very minor marks around the key holes to both the hood and case. There are some very minor marks around the feet but the case is really in first class condition.
An Edwardian brass cased alarm carriage clock, height excluding carrying handle 10 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement does wind but is not currently ticking. The balance spring is not damaged but we cannot get the movement to tick. The case has a section of brass stringing missing on the left hand side of the front panel. There are minor stress fractures to the veneers. These are slightly more pronounced on the left hand side. The base moulding has slightly sprung at the left hand corner. There are small losses to the base moulding extremities. The brass feet and handles are original. The rear door is present. The face glass has a small chip just below the numeral 5. There is a hairline crack across the top of the face between numeral 10 and the bottom of numeral 1. There is some slight staining to the bottom of the face around the numeral 6.
A Heals walnut inverted bowfront cupboard on chest, well figured and with four graduated drawers with knob handles. Width 91 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally very good structural order. The top is flat and has only minor old surface marks and minor ring marks. There are no splits to either side. The doors close correctly with no warping. The door panels are all a very good colour. All handles are original. All drawers run as they should. All linings are in good condition. There are clearly some very minor surface blemishes to the piece but no real condition issues.
An oak longcase clock, circa 1930, with St. Michael Westminster or Whittington chimes, the trunk door glazed. Height 200 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement is ticking away as it should. It strikes when advanced on the quarter, half, three quarter and full. The movement seems fairly clean. We have all three weights and the pendulum. The case is in generally very good condition. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The hood is in good order all round. The only minor issue is perishing to the cloth to the fretwork panels on either side. The case itself is in very condition with no issues. The door is not warped. We do not have the keys for the hood or trunk door, neither are locked. The backboards to the case are original.
