Bernard Richters (1888-1966)Bronzen masker toegeschreven aan Bernard Richters (1888-1966), niet gesigneerd, Amsterdamse school, ca. 1930.Over Bernard RichtersBernard Richters was naar de verhalen te oordelen een wereldvreemde en psychisch ontspoorde man die de openbaarheid zoveel mogelijk ontweek. Beeldhouwerk van Bernard Richters komt weinig voor, hij was minder productief dan veel van zijn tijdgenoten. Hij kon moeilijk afstand doen van zijn geesteskinderen en hield bewust de prijzen hoog en verkocht weinig. Hij ontwierp voor de firma Winkelman & van der Bijl in Amsterdam een monumentaal zwart gepatineerde bronzen pendule bekroond door een dubbelmasker met aan de zijkanten knielende vrouwenfiguren en een bijbehorende schemerlamp. Aan de samenwerking kwam abrupt een einde toen bleek dat de firma illegaal houten beeldjes van o.a. Bernard Richters afvormde en daarvan afgietsels in brons en tin op de markt bracht. Mogelijk is deze maskerkop het resultaat hiervan. h. 29, b. 22, d.14 cm.
