An 18th century oak 30 hour longcase clock by Jno. Ramsbottom, c.1770, the 13in. circular Roman brass dial with foliate engraving, signed, date dial at six, pierced steel hands, the hood flanked by turned columns beneath a swan neck pediment, the trunk with serpentine top door over an ogee moulded base, 83¼in. (211.5cm.) high.
An unusual French novelty miniature Sedan chair pocket watch vitrine, late 19th / early 20th century, of paper mache construction, on gold ground, embellished with delightful scenes of frolicking winged cherubs, doves and floral garlands and scroll motifs, velour trim, bevelled glass windows, ornate bow shaped door handle, the door opening to reveal a blue/purple velvet interior with gold trim a watch hanging hook, 6¾in. (17cm.) high. *Conditioon: in excellent condition, with slight corner edge wear.
Michele Thiele (French, b. 1935), White house oil on canvas, signed 'M. Thiele 73-75' lower left 23¾ x 29¾in. (60.25 x 75.5cm.) * Condition: Original framing - silver gilt and canvas. Some craquelure visible in places including one diagonal line which is very visible between central door and upper right window. There are two paint flakes from the upper left (just to right of window) and one tiny flake to lower left of painting.
A novelty Victorian oak tea caddy, fashioned as a coal scuttle, embellished with ornate brass work, the front door opening to reveal a tin coloured interior, Rd No 115016, dating piece to c.1888, 7½in. (19cm.) deep. *Condition: no shovel or bracket for holding, one brass pin off to side decoration, good condition.
An early 18th century joined oak food cupboard, the stepped, moulded top over a pair of double panelled doors on iron hinges, enclosing an interior with single shelf, iron sprung lock, over a single panelled drawer on runners, with iron ring handle and double panelled cupboard door beneath, raised on stile supports, 33½ x 24½in. (85 x 62.25cm.), 64in. (162.5cm.) high. * Provenance: Swan Gallery, Burford, Oxon., c.1988. Copy of the original purchase invoice accompanies the lot.
A Regency brass and mahogany double fusee bracket clock by F. Lawley of Bath, the eight day double fusee movement striking the hour on a bell, the signed and painted circular 8in. dial with Roman numerals, the rectangular case with shallow gadrooned top with brass finial, over a brass inlaid front and sides with foliate rosette ring handles and pierced brass scale fretwork grilles, raised on decorative gilt brass ball feet, 19½in. (49.5cm.) high. *Condition:Very original condition - case is quite dirty but has a lovely colour. All brass inlays are complete. They are securely fixed overall - just two of the string inlays are lifting a little at the ends. Two chips to edge of gadrooned top to front and small chip to the back corners. Locks to dial glass and rear door working - key is rusty but original. Movement definitely original to case. A few old (inactive ) worm holes to top of back. Shrinkage crack down centre of right lower side of case, below the grille. Side moulding missing from the top right of case. Winds and runs but will almost certainly require cleaning and some work as it has not been serviced for decades. Winding key 20th century.
A 19th century novelty Continental table vitrine in the form of a miniature 'Sedan chair', with all over dark tan leather covering, decorated with gilt fleur-de-lis and repeating stylised motifs, the vitrine with three shaped bevelled glass panels for viewing your most treasured collectables, the hinged front door with ornate foliate handle opening to reveal a deep pink floral decorated interior and two glass shelves, the sides of the chair with brackets to enable the leather clad carrying poles, 9½in. (24.2cm.) high. *Condition: in excellent condition, the leather clading barely with a scratch, the poles with wear, glass intact, very light gilt rubbing.
A good 19th century English double fusee amboyna bracket clock by Barrauds of Cornhill, London, the square silvered dial with Roman numerals and polished steel hands, fronting a twin train movement with engraved backplate border, signed 'Barrauds Cornhill LONDON', striking the hours on a bell, in a burl amboyna case with plain, stepped top over a fluted frieze, the door with brass inlaid canted corners, over an ogee base with plain plinth, on gilt brass bun feet, 11¾in. (29.8cm.) high. * Condition: Winds and runs, strikes correctly. Case is very good overall with no significant faults. Lock to back door is loose and needs refixing. Lock works and original key is present. Dial very good with just a few very light scratches. Condition very good overall.
An 18th century oak longcase clock by George Womersley, the square brass dial signed to centre, with silvered Roman chapter ring with Arabic outer minute track, the centre with painted moonphase with lunar date beneath and engraved date dial at 6, decorated with engraved bellflowers, within gilt brass foliate scroll spandrels, fronting a chain driven twin train movement with outside countwheel bell strike, the case with swan neck pediment with central brass ball finial, over a deep plain frieze on turned pillars, the trunk with incuse arched door flanked by turned quarter columns, on a panelled base with short bracket feet, 86in. (218.5cm.) high.
An unusual and extremely rare Victorian silver plated hip flask and coin purse combination, the round almost spherical shaped flask with hinged handle to top, the main body forming the spirit flask section with screw top cap, the face of cap, engraved with registered design diamond, dating the piece to 7th May 1880, the circumference of cap with the retailers 'Halstaff & Hannaford 228 Regent St W', the front of flask with circular 'FH' monogramed hinged door opening to reveal a twin coin purse in blue silk, the divider topped by red leather, 2¾in. (7cm.) diameter. *Condition: in excellent condition with a few tiny dents throughout, a little rubbing to plate to the back (1cm.) long.
A mid-18th century oak longcase 30 hour clock by John Nethercott of Long Compton, Warwickshire, the square, 9in. brass dial signed to the Roman chapter ring, centred by engraved foliage, single pierced steel hand, gilt brass mask spandrels, fronting a chain driven bell strike movement with outside countwheel, the case with flared ogee moulded pediment, panelled trunk door on brass butterfly hinges, on a short, plain plinth base, 74in. (188cm.) high.* Provenance: Baggott Church Street Ltd., Stow-on-the-Wold, Glos., c.1988. Copy of original purchase invoice accompanies the lot.** Condition: The dial is too small for the hood mask, so it must be assumed that the movement is not original to the case. The movement appears to have been cleaned and restored, probably before purchased in 1988. The brass dial plate is missing three corners. There are some old worm holes (inactive) to the elm seat board, pine back and inside edge of the trunk door. The case has good colour and patina. The moulding around the trunk door is later, as it overlaps rather oddly over the butterfly hinges. Later iron weight. Losses to edge of wooden flange in lower trunk piece below the door. Large splits at top and bottom of back panel.
A George I burr and figured walnut eight day longcase clock by John Carter of London, the arched brass dial with silvered Roman chapter ring and Arabic outer minute track, gilt brass mask spandrels and matted centre with silvered sub. seconds at 12, date aperture at 6 and harboured winding holes, signed to a silvered convex roundel to arch within a foliate border and gilt brass dolphin spandrels, fronting an eight day bell strike movement with five knopped pillars, the case with cavetto moulded arched top with three gilt brass ball finials, over a blind fret carved frieze and secondary step moulded arch, on gilt brass stop fluted columns, the trunk with moulded arched and feather banded door and cross banded sides, on a cross and feather banded base with shaped bracket feet, 92½in. (235cm.) high.
A rare and very large Moritz Gottschalk dolls’ house circa 1895, With blue painted roof, brick and stone external papers, three storeys with attic rooms, central front door with jettied two storey bay window above, either side a veranda with steps and balustraded balconies to 1st and 2nd floor with access doors from central section, hanging two-storey celestial window to either side, dormer windows, front opening to reveal six rooms, central staircase with generous hall and landings, mainly original wall papers and door bell mechanism on 2nd floor —58in. (147.5cm.) high x 51in. (129.5cm.) wide x 33in. (84cm.) deep (some overpainting to balconies, front steps replaced, missing one whole and one half of a double door, lack glazing, other damage and repairs, some slight worm) — this house appears in the reproduced 1895 catalogue on page 33 of Cieslik's Reprints Mortiz Gottschalk 1892-1931
