A fine Victorian Vulliamy ,London library clock in rosewood case, twin chain driven fusee movement signed Vulliamy,London No 1622,vertical verge escapement with loud/soft regulator, silvered 4' square dial with engraved and engine turned decoration, signed Vulliamy, London , the case with caddy top and castellated pediment.25cm highCondition report: Provenance: removed from a local prominent country house where it has been for generationsGeneral overall condition quite good, movement is clean and appears to be original but we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Gong mount looks clumsy. Lever escapement not pendulum driven. (No pendulum present as previously stated in the description). Backplate signed Vulliamy 1622. Dial is dirty, signed Vulliamy London, minute hand slightly bent. There is a brass threaded hole thru base. Case needs attention, some parts missing. detachable top cover has one edge off, but present. Rear door glass missing but frame is present. No keys. Strike silent lever controls the gong. Balance has an adjustment lever.The vendor has since found a good quality brass key which fits very well and is now included with the lot. It has an unusual sprung mechanism to avoid overwinding.

Early 18th century longcase clock with 30 hour chain driven bird-cage movement, 10 inch square brass dial, with female image and floral spandrels, matted centre and brass chapter ring, signed Ralph Sayers, Lindfield, single pierced hand. In an oak case, with full length door, hood, with shaped columns and architectural pediment. 211cm overall height (weight and pendulum present)Condition report: Movement is very dirty, it appears to be free but we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Seat board has been replaced. Dial has been cleaned and decoration is filled with metal polish, pendulum rod is rusty and bob is somewhat battered and dirty. Case needs attention. Surface of wood is badly worn in places, both trunk side panels are damaged where pendulum swings. Door is damaged. Plinth has poor repair and may have been shortened. Hood is worn in places and glass surround beading is broken, other areas of beading are damaged. Dial surround is larger than actual dial. See photographs.

Milbro or Similar 0 Gauge Bogie Freight Stock, a Midland side-door open wagon in grey with heavy cast bogies, a Milbro LMS version of same with wood-planked sides no 7960, a later-style NE brick wagon no 13989 in red-brown, a GWR dark brown Siphon G van no 1270 (same length and no as the LMC version but appears to be Milbro), and a Caledonian Railway bogie flat wagon (possibly as a crane runner) in CR red, appears to have no 274 to sole bar and date(?) 12.18.2, nicely detailed by unknown maker, with heavy diamond-frame bogies, all F-G (5)

An Approx 1½in Scale Model Barrett Exall & Andrews Single-Cylinder Portable Engine, built by Tony Webster of Daventry, featured on the cover of 'Model Engineer' issue 4399 (24/03/11) and shown at the Midlands Model Engineering exhibition in 2012, a fine model of an engine by this uncommon maker based at Katesgrove Iron Works, Reading; the model stands 25in high over the hinged chimney, and features single cylinder, approx 1in x 1¼in stroke, with slide valve (appears non-reversing), locomotive-type regulator, water gauge, pressure gauge and Salter-type safety valve, 6in diameter fabricated flywheel, early-type 'half-moon' smokebox door, crank-driven water-pump (lacks some pipework and clack valve), the model painted in gloss black with red details, and engraved plaque to one side 'The Reading Iron Works Limited, Reading, England', overall VG-E, appears never steamed, motion a little stiff, complete with an aluminium carrying case with some paperwork, but no formal boiler history

Lot 390

An unusual and extremely rare Victorian silver plated hip flask and coin purse combination, the round almost spherical shaped flask with hinged handle to top, the main body forming the spirit flask section with screw top cap, the face of cap, engraved with registered design diamond, dating the piece to 7th May 1880, the circumference of cap with the retailers 'Halstaff & Hannaford 228 Regent St W', the front of flask with circular 'FH' monogramed hinged door opening to reveal a twin coin purse in blue silk, the divider topped by red leather, 2¾in. (7cm.) diameter. * Condition: In excellent condition with a few tiny dents throughout, a little rubbing to plate to the back (1cm.) long.

A very unusual antique patinated bronze pen/quill stand in the form of a circular columned "folly", having original central cobalt blue glass liner, when in place can be seen through the windows and door, standing on circular red marble base, 4in. (10.2cm.) high. * Condition: One column cut off near the base, otherwise nothing to note.

A rare German silver gilt singing bird music box automation, attributed to Karl Griesbaum, having London import marks for B.C.T Co Ltd, 1929, 925, in addition having various other part hallmarks, of serpentine chest form on four foliate scroll feet, extensively repousse decorated to the sides with cherubs at play in garden settings, the front having shaped vacant ribbon swag cartouche to centre and having a bird in flight as the stop - start controller, the back having hinged door opening to reveal void for keeping key, the top chased with cherubs with musical instruments beneath flowering trees, birds and a rabbit, centred by an oval cover depicting a cherub conducting, flanked by two singing birds, it opens revealing a bird with multi-coloured feathered plumage, moving and singing, rising from a grill, having original brass key fashioned as a bird, 4¼ x 2¾ x 1 78in. high (11.5 x 7 x 4.8cm.). * Condition: The movement and bellows working, the sound very good, the oval cover a bit sticky and does jam sometimes, the gilt mostly faded with loss of brightness, some nicks to edges, overall good and working.

A late 19th century inlaid mahogany lancet mantel clock, with Roman dial, signed 'Examd. by W. A. Watkins, 59, Carey St., London', to a twin train movement striking the hour and half hour on a gong, with 'Marque Deposee' wreath mark, no. 95753, in a tulipwood and boxwood inlaid case with bras side handles and brass bracket feet, 11½in. (29.2cm.) high, with key. * Condition: Winds and runs. Chiming working correctly but hammer bent to prevent contact with gong. Two small scratches to dial and wear to 'London' lettering. Case good with nice colour and patina. Two shrinkage splits to lower edge of movement door (below grille). One hinge to movement door a little loose. Lacks key to case door.

Lot 1034

A 19th century Dutch Delft mantel clock, the top of architectural form with fleur-de-lys surmount, over a fireplace and mantel beneath, the 4in. Roman enamel dial to a twin train French movement by P. Japy & Cie, also marked for Eugene Farcot, with outside countwheel strike and sunburst pendulum, striking the hours and half hours on a bell, 15¾in. (40cm.) high. * Condition: Winds, runs and strikes correctly. Dial good. Finial on top of both andirons in fireplace have been off and glued back. Large hairline glaze crack to back of case. Some small glaze flakes to edges and line of wear to glaze at edge just to right side of dial door.

An early 19th century Channel Islands eight day mahogany longcase clock, the bell strike movement fronted by a painted Roman arched dial, signed 'Poign and Jersey', with painted vine fruit spandrels and exotic pheasant and floral spray to the arch, a further pair of birds to the centre, the case with broken arched hood with later brass ball and eagle finials, over a trunk with broken arched door, the plain base with bracket feet and wavy apron, 95in. (241.25cm.) high.

An 18th century oak provincial longcase clock, by John Lawson (probably of Bradford or Bingley), the weight driven movement with four knopped pillars and outside countwheel bell strike, the arched Roman brass dial with outer Arabic minute track, matted centre with arched date aperture and three turned roundels, gilt brass scroll spandrels and sun mask to arch, the case with broken arched top with central brass finial over an arched door with turned fruitwood columns, the canted trunk with serpentine arched door, on a plain base with bracket feet, 91in. (231cm.) high.

A late Georgian oak and mahogany cased longcase clock by Rogers of Dudley, second quarter 19th century, the arched brass dial plate with mask and dolphin spandrels, silvered Roman chapter ring and engraved centre with winged mythical beasts, subsidiary seconds dial and arched date aperture, signed to roundel to the arch, eight day bell strike movement, the mahogany hood with swan-neck pediment over reeded columns, conforming with the half-length quarter columns flanking the shell inlaid door on the oak trunk, over a deep box base with shell inlay, on bracket feet, 96½in. (245.2cm.) high.

An early 19th century Channel Islands mahogany longcase clock by Naftel of Guernsey, the eight day bell strike movement fronted by an arched silvered dial with Roman chapter ring and Arabic outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial below 12, date aperture above 6 and strike/silent ring to the arch, signed 'Naftels Guernsey', the arched hood with two eagle and ball finials, on tapered reeded columns with brass acanthus capitals, the trunk with arched door and checker board stringing between fluted half columns to the canted corners, above a deep base with conforming inlay and quarter fans to the corners, standing on a moulded plinth, 83in. (210.75cm.) high.

Dame of Sark interest - an early 19th century inlaid mahogany North Country eight day longcase clock, by Thomas Dodson of Leeds, with bell strike movement fronted by an arched painted Roman dial signed 'Dodson Leeds', with painted floral urn spandrels and cornucopia to arch, subsidiary seconds dial at 12 and date dial at 6, the case with swan's neck pediment on turned columns, the trunk with crown-top door within kingwood and mahogany cross banding, on an inlaid roundel base with bracket feet, 92in. (234cm.) high. * Provenance: Previously owned by Dame Sybil Hathaway, the Dame of Sark and purchased at auction by the current owners in Guernsey.
