A Mahogany cased Longcase Clock of excellent quality, the brass face (13 9/16" square plus the arch) with a silvered chapter ring having Arabic numerals, inset second hand, finely engraved scrollwork detail and with Chime/Silent and Whittington/Westminster subsidiary indicators to the arch. The three-train movement being a dead-beat type striking the hours and quarter hours on nine tubular bells. The weights are extremely heavy (the largest being 14 Kg approx.). The Mahogany of the case is beautifully relieved by light and dark-wood strung cross-banding and with an inlaid depiction of a shell to the base section. The hood has a scroll pediment, a sphere & spike finial and fret-worked screens to the two sides, 97 1/2'' high x 22'' wide x 14 1/2'' deep maximum at the base. The nickel/silvered weights and tubular bells are visible through a bevelled oval window in the door of the case, as is the pendulum which has a wooden shaft and a turned solid metal bob-weight. The winding crank handle and a key are present. No makers name is to be found. The clock which appears to have power maintained during winding has been running satisfactorily prior to the sale including the Westminster/Whittington chimes.
A 19th Century dark Mahogany Bureau, the light and dark-wood strung slope opening to reveal an interior with ten drawers, eight pigeon holes and a central cabinet having a shell inlaid door and flanked by a secret compartment to either side, the base having four long drawers with drop brass ring handles and raised on splayed bracket feet united by a shaped lower frieze. 46 3/8'' wide x 21'' deep and 42'' high approx.

A JAPANESE MEIJI (1867-1912) PORCELAIN PAVILION-SHAPED HANGING LANTERN. Enamelled black four character seal mark, of hexagonal section, with ring handle, the waisted roof decorated with scrolling dragons chasing flaming pearls on a cloud and flower pattern ground, with pierced lattice panelled body decorated with cell and wicker pattern ground, with central open door, on pierced ruyi-shaped feet. 39cm highThe ring handle has been cracked and repaired with restored repair to the faceted ball support. With old lacquered repairs to five of the roof struts and one lacquered repair to corner of roof/cover, with old cracked and repaired damages to two struts. Two lacquered repairs to two feet, two other feet cracked across and restuck, another with hairline crack, lacking a door.
