Northern Ireland Political Ephemera. This lot includes personal effects belonging John Stewart Evans MBE Royal Ulster Constabulary a 9ct Gold Signet Ring. The ring set with black onyx, size R +, approx 3.5 gms, a hand painted linen handkerchief to Governor Evans H.M.P Maze H. Block 5 by S. Vennard 816, Northern Ireland Prison Service Medallion, Book of Common Prayer, expired passport, prison stainless steel whistles, Prison Governors Association Diary, Pocket Bible, Door Plaque, Blackthorn Shillelagh Cudgel, Aerial Photograph of the H-Block Long Kesh, Grand Lodge Certificate and two bronze City and Guilds Technological Examination medallions and one white metal. In addition, this lot contains blank invitations to various wedding dinners, breakfasts and receptions relating to The Marriage of HRH Princess Anne to Captain Mark Phillips at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 14th November 1973 and a First Day Cover. Note: On leaving Maze Prison Governor Evans was painted this wonderful example of a handkerchief, leaving him with a sure impression that he had reached some people in that deeply troubled environment. Governor Evans assisted in various charities and took part in motivational talks about prison reform and helped bring about well-being in prisons, police forces and ambulance services not only in Ireland but Scotland, England and many other countries. After 24 long years of looking over his shoulder and attending hundreds of funerals he was awarded the MBE in Queens Birthday Honours List before his passing.
A 19th Century East Orthodox Icon. The painted panel depicting a Saint clasping a quill and pot of ink, the icon mounted within a decorative wood kiot of fanciful shape with brass inlay. The hinged door (glass missing) opens to reveal a carved and gilded liner of blossom in relief (with minor repair), signed and titled in Cyrillic text upper right, the icon approx 16 x 13.5 cms, original glass missing, the kiot approx 31 x 39 x 9 cms. BEATLES SIGNED FAN CLUB CHRISTMAS FLEXI DISC . A copy of The Beatles ?first Fan Club flexi disc from 1963 "Sincere Good Wishes For Christmas And The New Year (LYN 492)" signed to front of sleeve in pencil by George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Ringo Starr. The sleeve is in VG condition while the flexi is Excellent. Provenance: The vendors aunty worked at clubs such as the Zodiac and Iron Door and it was here she met and became a friend of Cilla Black. When the Beatles played their Christmas show at the Finsbury Astoria on 6th Jan 1964 she travelled down to London to see the show and Cilla (who was also on the bill) arranged for her to go backstage which is where the flexi was signed in person by The Beatles. John Pritchard, London, a George III ebonised bracket clock, the sarcophagus top with gilt metal mounts and corner pineapple finials above an arched glazed door with pierced gilt metal spindles and caryatid mounts, glazed side panels and rear door raised on gilt metal bracket feet, the arched brass dial with engraved silvered chapter ring, strike/silent dial and calendar aperture surrounded by pierced chased foliate work, the twinned fusee movement with crown wheel escapement and foliate engraved rear plate no 518 repeating on a bell 51 cm high. Clock comes from a local deceased estate and has been neglected for many years, a damp environment has caused sections of mouldings to detach, some are lacking. The going train operates, the striking train gut is disconnected but works when tension.
An 18th Century French large Boulle bracket clock of overall balloon shape, the case embellished with gilt metal dial with blue enamel Roman numerals and outer engraved seconds, the twin train spring driven movement with outside numbered count wheel striking on a bell and signed "J Mornand, Paris" 82 cm high, the rear door with paper label "From the late Lord Lonsdale's Collection of Lowther Castle". (The clock case appears to have undergone overall amateur restorations, pendulum & key lacking).
