A GEORGE III LONGCASE CLOCK, the brass dial signed "Simon de Charmes", with subsidiary date aperture and seconds dial, the arch with a central tablet inscribed "W. Hallack, Cambridge", with an eight day two train five pillar movement striking on a bell, the mahogany case with arched top hood, the trunk with tall door flanked by quarter recessed brass stop fluted columns, 92" high. See illustration
A French brass carriage clock by Richard & Co., Grand Sonnerie with repeat mechanism and alarm, 1969 grams, cased. Height excluding carrying handle 14.3 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock winds on both trains and is ticking away. It has two gongs and no bell. The alarm mechanism seems to wind correctly. We have not had the repeat mechanism or the Grand Sonnerie mechanism working. The clock face is in generally very good order with no visible damage. There does not appear to be any damage to any of the glass panels. The rear door fits correctly. The original lacquered finish to the clock is perished in places and the outer case certainly requires a clean. The carrying case is in very poor condition and is quite badly damaged.
A Regency mahogany bracket clock, in the Gothic style, with crossbanded case, silvered dial and two-train fusee movement by W. Briggs, Guildford. Height 56 cm, width 39 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in extremely good condition. It is a good colour and there are no losses or any significant issues. The clock winds on both trains and appears to be striking as it should. The clock is running but tends to stop after a minute or so. We do not think there are any issues with the movement other than it being perhaps a little dry. The dial may have been resilvered but if so this has been done very professionally and in our opinion is not an issue. The pin that goes through the top of the metal pendulum strip is missing. We do not have any of the door keys but we do have a winder. The catalogue image is how the clock looks in reality.
A pair of Victorian mahogany shop display cabinets, each with piano front and raised back with swans neck pediment and accessible from the rear. Width 66 cm, height including swans neck 74 cm, depth 62 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both of these cabinets are in exceptionally good condition. They have been in use recently in a local chemists shop. Both pediments and cornices are in very good condition. There does not appear to be any damage to any of the glass panels on either cabinet. The mahogany is of good quality and there are no issues with either cabinet from a structural point of view. There is no woodworm and no losses to the timber. The rear of both cabinets are a little dirtier than the front but all is original as are the brass handles to the top rear door and bottom fall front mirrored panel. Both cabinets are a little scuffed around the bottom moulding and more so at the rear of each cabinet where things have been lifted in and out.
A late Victorian Arts & Crafts oak wardrobe, with detachable moulded cornice above a centre mirror door flanked on either side by a panelled door decorated with stylised floral motifs and all enclosing hanging space, the base fitted with two drawers. Height 208 cm, depth at cornice 61.5 cm, width 182.5 cm (see illustration).
A 17th century oak court cupboard, with carved frieze above a series of panelled doors and shelf flanked by turned columns and with pair of panelled doors to the base. (Alterations). Width across top 168 cm, depth 56.5 cm, height 156 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally very good condition. It has no cornice and may well have originally been built-in to ceiling height. The colour of the piece is generally very good. The top doors are in good order. There are some marks around the lock escutcheon to the left door. The two turned pillars are in our opinion later replacements. The front shelf appears to be original. The base is in generally good condition. The carving on the lower section is different from that on the upper section. The sides are all panelled and in good condition. The backboards appear to be original as do that shelves. There is no significant warping to the doors. The butterfly wooden door retainers are later replacements. We can see no evidence of any woodworm and there are no structural issues.
An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock with movement by Samuel Thorpe Abberley, the hood with swans neck pediment above the oval glazed door flanked by pillars and enclosing the oval painted face with moon phase to the arch and with two-train eight day striking movement with subsidiary date and seconds dials and with deadbeat escapement, face dimensions 52 cm x 41 cm, and with arched trunk door flanked by ring turned columns, the base with canted angles and bracket feet. Height 238 cm (see illustration).
An oak longcase clock, with carved case inscribed "Use Time Wisely" and with silvered brass dial and two-train striking movement and with foliate and scroll carved case. CONDITION REPORT: The clock hood is in generally god condition with no significant issues. There is a small section of mahogany crossbanding missing to the left hand bottom corner of the glazed door. The silvered brass dial is dirty and the silvering worn. The movement although dirty is ticking and striking as it should. The seatboard is not original. The trunk door is not warped. It also has a small veneer loss to the bottom left hand corner. We have the weights and pendulum. The plinth to the base is detached. We are missing the plain section of left hand return moulding.
A Victorian mahogany gentleman's wardrobe, with moulded cornice above a pair of panelled doors, the base fitted with two short and one long drawer with wooden knob handles and raised on short turned feet. Width 132 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in good condition. Both doors are a little warped but not significantly. Both door panels are a little dry and have surface scuffs and scratches. We do not have a key for the lock. The interior trays are missing and the piece has been converted to hanging space. The right hand side has two later coat hooks and the door appears to have been off at some point as there are repairs around all three hinges. The left hand side has holes where coat hooks have been. It is also scratched and scuffed. The top two base drawers are generally in good condition. The bottom drawer has some pieces of cockbeading missing and there are small veneer losses on the runners between. The side panels of the base are a little scuffed but in generally good condition. The plinth and feet are original. The piece is structurally sound. The cornice is fixed but the upper section lifts apart at the bottom of the door. The doors can be removed. The height of the top section is 123 cm. Depth 62 cm. Width across cornice 131 cm. Base dimensions depth 60 cm, height including feet 66 cm, width at widest point 130 cm.
A late 19th/early 20th century walnut Arts & Crafts wardrobe, with moulded cornice above a pair of panelled cupboard doors, the upper panels carved and opening to hanging space, trays and drawers and raised on a plinth base. Width across cornice 194 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The wardrobe is in generally good condition. The cornice is in good order with only minor scuffs and marks as one would expect. The side panels are both in good condition with no significant issues. There are the usual minor surface marks as one would expect. The plinth has the usual scuffs around the corners but again no significant problems. Neither door is significantly warped. The left hand door is missing the two catches top and bottom which secure the door to the cornice and base. There is also one section of panel beading damaged but present on the inside. The right had door is also in generally good condition. The interior tray and drawers are all present. Beneath the doors there should be a think sliver of timber which fits beneath the bottom of the door and the plinth. 75% of this small narrow 1” section of timber is missing. It has probably been broken and lost during transportation at some point. Generally speaking the wardrobe is in good order but will need correctly screwing together and possibly this section of timber replacing along the front of the plinth.
A George III oak longcase clock, with moulded cornice above a glazed door enclosing the silvered brass dial with date aperture and Roman numerals by Hugh Lough of Penrith and with thirty hour movement, with long trunk door, quarter column corners and conforming base. Height 207 cm (see illustration).
A George III mahogany bedside cabinet, with tray type top above a rectangular panelled door with oval medallion and raised on tapered legs of square section. Width 37.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top is flat and not warped. It has old surface scratches and traces of old watermarks but no significant condition issues. The gallery is in good order. The side panels are good colour and not cracked. The same applies to the back. The door is not warped and closes properly. There are some scratches around the handle which operates the retaining lever. There are also marks on the left hand leg where the brass handle retaining clip has knocked in to the upright. The legs are in good condition with no breaks. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The piece in our opinion could be used or resold in its current state.
A late 18th century longcase clock, with automaton movement by Jan B. Bryhoff, Amsterdam, walnut and marquetry case, with silvered chapter ring and brass dial with subsidiary seconds and moon phases and with three dimensional theatre scene, including five rocking ships, mermaid and sea serpent. Dial width 32 cm, case height 252 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock is generally in extremely good condition. The case is in extremely good order with no significant veneer issues. There are no problems with the hood. The trunk door is not warped. The sides are in good condition with no issues. The bombe base has a stress mark across the front panel which should be clearly evident. The veneer is slightly rough to the touch across this section. There is a similar stress fracture to the right hand panel of the base which is similarly a little rough to the touch. The left hand side panel is in good order with no stress fractures. The feet are original and in good condition. The movement is ticking away and the rocking ships operate with the pendulum and seem to be working as they should. We have not had the clock going long enough to see if the moon phase operates correctly but would be surprised if it didn't. The case backboards are original.
