The brass bezel to the front door is a little tarnished but in good condition as is the glass. The dial is in good order. The clock movement is complete and we have the pendulum. The movement strikes correctly when advanced and appears to be ticking away. The accompanying urns are not quite a match to the clock. They are generally very dirty but have no significant problems. They both have minor nibbles and scuffs to the slate as one would expect. One urn has slightly more chips and scuffs than the other and the losses are a little more significant but not substantially problematic.

There are scratches caused by the door closing mechanism. The drawer is in good order. The brass handles appear to be original. The sides of the piece are in generally good condition. The legs are in good order as is the shelf. The piece is structurally sound with no real issues. It does however look a little tired and could do with a sympathetic polish.

Lot 1109

A George III mahogany square washstand, with folding top, pair of doors and single drawer and raised on legs of square section with low shelf. Width 39 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top is in generally good condition. The hinges are however all a little loose and require some repair. There are veneer and timber losses around the rear hinges on both sides. This is also evident on the sides of the carcass on both sides. The front door operates as it should as does the drawer. The legs are original. The shelf has numerous old stress fractures but is solid and all present. The piece could benefit from repairs to the hinges and a polish.

The front drawer has some veneer losses to the top right hand corner which should be visible on our image. There is a dowelled repair above the handle indicating a previous handle. The sides of the top and all shelves are in good order. The surfaces of the shelves have surface scratches as one would expect. The top of the base has some minor losses to the crossbanding on the right and left hand returns. The sides of the base are both in good condition. The plinth has minor veneer losses to both returns. There is a detached piece of veneer at the front right hand bottom corner and edge (we have the piece). The doors are not warped. The silk material is showing signs of slight discolouration and is beginning to perish along the bottom edge. There are five interior trays which are all in reasonable condition.

Lot 1257

A Queen Anne walnut hanging cabinet, with arched moulded top above a fielded panelled door opening to shelves and flanked by fluted columns and supported by a later mahogany bracket. Width 72 cm, depth 25 cm, height including bracket 105 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally very good condition and is an extremely good colour. There are some very minor losses in places. The top arched moulding has two small edge losses to the left and right of the centre breakfront. There is a piece of moulding missing to the bottom right hand corner between the bottom of the arched moulding and the door corner. There are further veneer cracks bottom left and right of the door and a small section of edge moulding and crossbanding is missing at the left hand door foot. The sides of the piece are in good order. The supporting plinth is later. The interior is in generally very good order.

Lot 1261

A Regency mahogany low cupboard, with moulded edge and crossbanded frieze above a pair of panelled doors with beaded moulding and raised on splayed bracket feet. Width 118 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally good condition. The top is flat and has only minor marks commensurate with the age of the piece. The left hand door is not warped and closes and locks as it should. One section of beaded moulding is a little loose but the piece is not detached. The right hand door when closed has a very small warp at the bottom approximately 2 mm gap when the door is fully closed. The lock is present but we do not have the key. There is one small quarter round section of moulding missing to the point of the top right hand corner. There are two stress fractures to the mahogany on the right hand door. These are not significant. The bracket feet are original and in good condition. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. Height 95 cm, depth 46 cm, width 118 cm. Width at feet 125.5 cm.

Smith Pittenweem flanked by fluted columns, with long trunk door and conforming base with bracket feet. Height 207 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The hood is in generally good condition and of good colour. There has been an old break between the swan's necks which should be visible on our image. This is minor. The trunk is in generally good order. The door is not warped and there are no problems with the sides of the case or base. The backboards are original. There is some very long gone old woodworm holes in the softwood on the backboards but these are very minor. We have both weights and pendulum. The movement appears to be complete and is striking and the movement appears to be ticking also. We have not tested the moon phase. The dial is in original untouched condition with some minor surface scratches and paint losses. The most evident damage being to points behind two of the movement pillars. We do not think that the clock is a marriage as the cheeks are not built up and the mask fits around the dial.

CONDITION REPORT: The depth of all shelves from the back boards to the front of the shelf itself is 25 cm. The shelves run through fully from left to right. Therefore the shelf depth is uniform throughout. With the centre section being breakfront there is a further 6 cm gap between the door and the shelf front at this point. The condition of the piece is generally good. There are very small minor chips and nibbles to the veneers but no significant issues. The doors are not warped and close as they should. There are no damaged panes of glass. The sides of the piece are in good condition. The plinth base is a little scuffed in places as one would expect.

Lot 1339

A pair of oak corner cupboards, circa 1935, each with glazed upper door and panelled lower door. Width 66 cm.

Lot 1340

A 19th century inlaid mahogany standing corner cupboard, the top half glazed and with canted angles, the base with panelled cupboard door and all raised on bracket feet. Width 78.5 cm.

Lot 1370

A George III oak housekeepers cupboard, with moulded cornice above a series of cupboards and drawers flanked by quarter column corners and all raised on bracket feet. Width 178 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height 218 cm, width across cornice 185 cm, depth at cornice 66 cm. The cupboard is in generally good untouched original condition. The cornice is in generally good order with minor losses to the front right hand corner outer edge. The three doors to the upper section are flat with no significant warping. The left hand drawer opens to what was hanging space but is now later modern shelving. The centre door opens to original shaped shelving, the right hand door opens to modern shelving and cup hooks and was originally simply hanging space. The brass knob handles are later and two cover old lock escutcheons. Both drawers are in generally good order with minor old repairs around the lock escutcheons. The sides of the piece are in generally good condition with minor old stress fractures down the timber joins and various scuffs and marks. The base drawers are all in good condition with no significant damage to any of the cockbeading or the drawer fronts. The handles if not original go through the original handle holes. The sides of the base are in good order. The feet are all original but scuffed and marked as one would expect and there is a loss to the front bottom section of the front left leg and to the rear right hand back leg. The piece is structurally very sound and we can see no evidence of any woodworm. The timber is generally very dry and requires a good clean and wax.

Lot 1406

A 19th century oak hanging corner cupboard, with moulded cornice and single door. Width 80 cm.

Lot 1411

A Victorian inlaid walnut pier cabinet, with arched glazed door enclosing cloth line shelves and flanked by flat pilasters with caryatid mounts and raised on a plinth base. Width 76 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height 106 cm, depth 33 cm, width 76 cm. The condition of the piece is generally extremely good. The top is of good colour and in good order with no losses. The frieze and sides of the piece are all in good condition with no veneer cracks or damage. The door is not warped. The marquetry in all areas is in good condition with no losses. All of the metalwork is present. The metalwork is dusty in the reveals. The plinth base is in generally good order with only minor scuffs and scratches as one might expect from a piece of this Victorian furniture. The backboards are original and in good order. The interior is original and the velvet clearly quite badly faded in places. The piece is structurally very sound and there is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1418

An early 19th century oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock by Graham of Cockermouth, with two-train movement and painted dial. CONDITION REPORT: The clock hood is in generally good condition with no significant damage, losses or restoration. The glass in intact. The painted dial is a little dirty, scuffed and marked but has no significant problems. The movement appears to be complete. The catgut is detached from the going train. The clock does however tick when pressure is applied to the barrel. In our opinion the movement is likely to work but will need the catgut reattaching and would probably benefit from a clean. We have both weights and the pendulum. We cannot open the trunk door as unfortunately there is no key. The trunk is in generally good condition. The backboards are in good order. There is some woodworm to the bottom 3 inches of base. This is most evident on the sides of the clock case and on the bottom board of the base which in an ideal world should be removed. The plinth return moulding left and right is missing. There is also a moulding below the crossbanding on the trunk door. The left hand return section of this is also missing. The width of clock at widest point 55 cm, height 216 cm.

Lot 1424

A George III inlaid mahogany bowfronted hanging corner cupboard, being boxwood and ebony strung and with inlaid shell medallion to each door. Width 62 cm.

Width 214 cm, height 112 cm, depth 48.5 cm (see illustration).

Lot 1466

An early 19th century oak and mahogany banded longcase clock by Carruthers of Langholm, with two-train striking movement, subsidiary date and second dials, the case raised on bracket feet (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock movement is extremely dirty and dusty. It is however ticking for approximately 1 minute before stopping and the strike mechanism does operate when advanced to the hour. The movement seems to be complete but definitely requires a clean if it is to run correctly. The case is in generally very good condition with no significant faults. Neither door is warped and the feet and plinth are original. The colour of the case is generally good. There will have been some form of pediment between the swan's necks which is missing.

Lot 1467

A George III oak longcase clock by William Nicholson of Whitehaven, with thirty hour movement, the case with swans neck pediment, long trunk door, reeded quarter column corners and raised on bracket feet. Height 210 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This is a 30 hour clock. It has false winding apertures in order to make it appear as 8 day clocks which were much more expensive to make. The hood is in generally good condition with the exception of a cracked glass. There will also have been something between the swans necks which is missing, possibly a wheatsheaf. The remainder of the hood is in generally good order with only minor surface scratches and marks as one would expect. The brass dial is in good order but has lost much of its silvering. We have the clock weight and pendulum which is unfortunately missing the metal suspension. The clock does however tick without the pendulum and strikes as it should. The seatboard that would support the movement is missing. The movement does however fit the door aperture and we do not think that the clock is a marriage. The case is a typical Cumbrian case. The door is not warped, the sides of the case are in good order as are the base and bracket feet. The case is a little dry and could do with a good wax.

Lot 1472

A Shapland & Petter inlaid mahogany display case, with stylised foliate marquetry enhanced with mother of pearl, the locks stamped "S. & P." for Shapland & Petter. Height 203 cm, width 143 cm, depth 45 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in generally extremely good original condition. The colour is generally very good and there are no significant losses or scratches to any of the timber or marquetry. The only real issues lie with the doors. They are not warped and shut as they should, however there is one pane of glass completely missing and two others are cracked. There are also two chips to the timber glazing bars on the left hand door. These are minor but clearly visible. The cloth interior lining is stained and a little dirty. We can see no evidence of any woodworm and the piece is structurally very sound.

Lot 1496

A late Victorian oak plan chest, with pair of panelled doors and raised on a plinth base. Width 108 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The plan chest top is in generally good condition. There is a slightly open join between the first and second planks on the top but there is no movement. The moulded edge is in good condition. The left hand side is in good order with only a slightly open join to the timber in the middle of the centre panel. The same comments apply to the right hand side. The cupboard doors are in generally good condition with no losses. There are vertical stress fractures across two of the panels on the left hand door. The interior drawer fronts are mahogany. The top drawer has drilled repairs to the top left and right hand side joining the drawer to the bearers. The repair is crude simply screws through the timber. This could be improved upon dramatically. All remaining drawers are in generally good order. The runner between drawers 3 and 4 has a small beading loss. There are other small surface scratches and marks to the drawer fronts but no significant issues. The piece is structurally sound and there is no evidence of woodworm. The plan chest has never been highly polished and has a good original patination that would benefit from a clean and wax.
