IMPRESSIVE CARVED BEDROOM SUITE. Eight pieces reputedly made for Herb Penney of the JC Penney family. Found in Chicago. Mahogany with boldly carved foliate and scroll motifs in a dark stain. Bookcase top has paneled doors, adjustable shelves and is a marriage with base. Some repairs and damage. 37 3/4w. 19 1/2d. 83 1/2h. 31 1/2 writing height.
ENGLISH CHIPPENDALE HANGING CORNER CUPBOARD. Oak with an old brown finish and pine secondary wood. Molded base with beaded edges on the single door and geometric mullions with old wavy glass. OHIO TALL CASE CLOCK. Face signed C.E. Strieby, Wooster, Ohio #48. Christopher H. Strieby was born around 1793 in Pennsylvania and listed in the 1830 census as living in Wooster. By 1850 he is listed as a clockmaker in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Cherry and poplar with good color. Bonnet top with broken crest, turned wooden urn finials and side lights. Brass works has heart cutouts with second hand and date crescent. Paint on face and moon dial appears original. Thumb molded door and reeded quarter columns. Paneled base with turned feet. With pendulum and weights. Crazed finish. Glue repair to broken arch. 102h.
