A George III mahogany bureau, the fall flap opening to reveal a central door with a shell patera, flanked by eight recesses over four short and two long drawers, four long graduated drawers, raised on bracket feet, 106.5cm high, 102cm wide, 52cm deep. Upon initial inspection splits to fall, handles of age but replaced, scratches, marks, staining, ring marks, losses to feet and extremities, some openings to joints etc.
Samuel Deacon, Barton. A George III mahogany and oak long case clock, the square enamel dial painted with floral spandrels, Arabic numerals, date aperture, eight day two train movement with bell strike, the hood with broken arch pediment, raised on brass caped fluted columns, the case door inlaid with shell paterea, flanked by quarter pilasters, with pendulum, no key, 203.5cm high. N.B. Samuel Deacon was born in Leicestershire in 1746 and was head of the celebrated family of watch and clock makers working at Barton-in-the-Beans from 1771 until 1951. Leicestershire Museums have a collection of his clocks and workshop tools, etc,. He is well documented. On initial inspection it would appear that the clock would have originally had feet, probably bracket, which are now gone and replaced by a matched in oak beading strip.

A GEORGE III OAK LONGCASE CLOCKThe painted arched 12in dial with date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, signed 'CHRISTMAS YARMOUTH', with a twin-train movement striking on a bell, with two weights, pendulum and winding key, overall height 208cmCondition report: Case: Case repolished at some point recently, however please note the following apparent issues: The case:Some old worm to the hood. The scroll pediment is loose. The brass spheres maybe not be original. The right hand moulding below the hood on the trunk needs repositioning. Crack just above the right hand side of the trunk door. Slight warp to the door, which effects the upper half of the trunk door. Both side panels on the plinth are split. Various scuffs and marks commensurate with use and age. The movement: The movement may not be original to case. However, the dial is attractively painted with the original surface. Some in painting to the centre. The movement has been cleaned fairly recently but will require a some work to the pendulum suspension block which is bent and has previously been replaced. We are unable to guarantee that the movement is in working order or complete, however, there appears to be no missing parts. 2 lead weights, winding key, key and pendulum.
A GEORGE III MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCKThe 12 inch arched brass dial with subsidiary dial and date aperture, signed 'John Chater Olney No 64', with two weights, a pendulum, winder and a case key, movement and case associated, overall height 214cm highCondition report: The case is basically original and has been repolished at some point. However, please not the following obvious issues: The hood with some cracking and replacement to the blind fret spandrels of the hood, some side splitting and movement to the sides Traces of old worm holes to the hood and trunk. Worm damage to the lower moulding of the hood which is now split apart on the left side and requires restoration. Later screws to secure glass door hinges. Brass mounts to the bases of the fluted side columns are loose.Some replacement and repair to detail moulding on the trunk, below hood. Slight warp to the door towards the bottom. An areas of filler Just below the key escutcheon, possibly from a previous catch for the door. Gauge to left hand side on canted flutes, approx 5 inches below lock. Both sides with split panels to the side of the plinth, left side with some repair and infill. Bracket feet are replaced. Marks, knocks, scratches and scuffs commensurate with age and use. The movement: The movement may not be original to case. The dial is dirty. Hands are not original. Movement appears complete, but is dirty and requires a full service. AN 18TH CENTURY INDO-DUTCH TORTOISESHELL IVORY STRUNG TABLE CABINETThe pair of doors enclosing five drawers, 39cm wide; 23cm highCondition report: Good overall condition considering age and use. Various lifting and losses to the veneers commensurate with age and use, some of which have been patched and repaired with replacement materials.No key and left hand door presently doesn’t close fully flush. The hinges and handles look to be likely replacements. The top drawer lining with unusual cut outs and timber slightly less oxidised when compared to others, possibly replaced linings. A 19TH CENTURY MAHOGANY CASED APOTHECARY CABINETWith extensive fitted interior, 27cm wide; 31cm highCondition report: Various light marks, scuffs and wear commensurate with age, however, mahogany is overall in relatively good ‘untouched’ condition. Tarnishing/oxidisation to metal work: escutcheon and carrying handles. The lid is very slightly lifting to one side. No key and lock plate loose, requiring fixing back into position. Veneer section to the front edge loose and present with lot. The top hinged lid opens to reveal: Four glass bottles with gilt brass lids, one of which has completely tarnished and lost it’s gilding and wax sealed cork lining and now loose on the glass bottle. Lift out tray with slide lidded compartment to the sideGlazed ceramic tileSoftwood cased glass syringe (internal edge of case worn with loss)Metal cased candle holder - with candle, stamped to underside ‘PATENT APPLIED FOR’ A ceramic oval shaped bowl on raised foot.Front door opening and closing only when lid open to reveal: Seven compartments, six bottles with glass stoppers, various chips and wear. Labelled drawers (one missing ring pull handle top right), including the top tier containing sliding lid compartments, the second row enclosing a glass mixing bowl but no pestle; four glass vials with contents, three of which with marble paper covered stoppers and three various wood containers, the bottom row enclosing eight apertures with six glass mixing bowls.The reverse door opening and closing when lid is open to reveal: Eight compartments with only seven glass bottles with stoppers present. A GEORGE I JOINED OAK BONNET TOPPED HANGING SPICE CUPBOARDThe panelled door enclosing a fitted interior, 51cm wide; 70cm highCondition report: The interior is more than likely associated.The door is slightly warped towards the bottom and closes with a small gap and has dropped down a little at the top left corner. There is a gauged out areas to inside of the door to accommodate the handle of the top internal drawer. The hinges are probably associated, slightly ill fitting within the cut-out space. A section of moulding to the top left side return is missing. This is visible in the image. Lock is loose and in a frieze drawer, with a key. Interior drawers are simply constructed, pinned sides are all slightly ill fitting within the divisions, with various gaps, although they appear to have been there some time. The long drawer is a different colour, more wear to sides and different metal handles. Old worm to the bottom board of drawer. Please see additional photographs on www.bellmans.co.uk
A CHARLES II JOINED OAK ENCLOSED CHEST OF DRAWERSCirca 1670, with raised geometric moulding, 105cm wide; 103cm highCondition report: Good overall condition considering age and use. Construction typical of the period and composed in two sections. Some inevitable wear, marks and scuffs in areas overall and to notable to the top, also with light shrinkage to timber. Further shrinkage to the timbers below and more evident to the panelled doors, including the left side door. Repair required to splits / tears to right side of the two internal drawers. Further shrinkage crack along the left bottom edge of the top drawer. Wear / oxidization to the ring pull metal handles. Five elements of moulding are loose and present. Plugged marks from previous handles. Left side hinge a more obvious replacement. Lock plate but no key. A few old worm holes apparent to the bottom boards. Feet probably good replacements and stylistically consistent, some small wear.
