A good quality William V mahogany turret Linen Press, centre section having a single shelf two door cabinet above a five drawer base, flanked either side by single door hanging wardrobes, each wardrobe has a protruding swept cornice and the centre section has a lancet front cornice, 81” wide x 77” tall
A late 19th Century rosewood Sheet Music Cabinet, the serpentine formed top shelf with line inlay and three quarter pierced brass gallery, mirrored area at the back beneath again with a marquetry and line inlaid top, beneath of which is a glazed single door cabinet, glazed tall front enclosing drops to reveal three fitted shelves and further bin type area beneath, again hinged to drop forward, this front inlaid with marquetry musical instruments etc and raised on ogee feet, 19” wide (Illustrated Inside Back Cover)
A mid 17th century Yorkshire joined oak and chequer banded press cupboard, of small proportions, with inlaid panels of birds in blossoming trees, the upper section with a projecting cornice above a canted cupboard enclosed by a central door, flanked by carved bulbous ‘cup and cover’ supports, the lower section with a gadroon and leaf carved frieze incorporating a central drawer above a pair of doors within strapwork carved rails and stiles, 136cm high, 130cm wide, 57cm deep (restored). A French late Gothic joined oak dressoir, late 15th/early 16th century and later, with panels of tracery overall, with a rectangular raised back and a projecting shelf, above a canted centre section, the shaped projecting top above a central cupboard door boldly carved with an heraldic triumphant griffin, flanked by panels, above an apron drawer, on square supports with an undertier, 188cm high, 97cm wide, 47cm deep (with later elements and restoration)
A mid-16th century joined oak standing cupboard, of canted rectangular form, the shaped moulded top above a central panelled door carved in relief with the head of a bearded man within a laurel wreath and ribbon scrolled cartouche, flanked by panels decorated with urns, caryatids, a shield-shaped cartouche and foliate scrolls, with pendant finials to the apron, above an open boarded undertier with a panelled back, flanked by baluster turned supports, on panelled plinth, the right side panel bears the date ‘1548’, 126cm high, 133cm wide, 57cm deep (replacement plinth, back panel and portrait head, restored). A fine 17th century Spanish polychrome and gilt decorated vargueno on chest, the upper section applied with engraved ivory panels and velvet backed wrought iron strapwork mounts, with side carrying handles, the fall front with an elaborate lock plate and clasp, enclosing an architectural polychrome and gilt decorated interior, with thirteen drawers around a central door enclosing three further drawers, the lower section with recess panelled sides and wrought iron carrying handles, the front with two lopers with carved shell terminals, above four geometric mitred, polychrome and parcel gilt decorated drawers, on turned bun feet, 158cm high, 109cm wide, 46cm deep. See Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 29th October 2003, lot 181 for a similar vargueno on chest which is not as complete as the Boarsney house example and Sotheby’s, New York, 19th May 2006, lot 45 for a vargueno on an open stand with a similarly decorated interior.
