A fine Gothic revival silver-cased desk clock with perpetual calendar and thermometer, Mortimer and Hunt, London 1839. the ‘spire’ cast as five cluster scrolling branches enclosing an earl’s coronet sitting on a stepped hexagonal platform engraved with acorns and oak leaves, leaf clasped finial to each corner, the circular enamel dial within a lancet framed panel flanked by panelled Gothic pillars, with an engraved tablet ‘John Carter’, the silvered thermometer and perpetual calendar dial of lancet shape, the reverse showing the movement through glazed panel and the other as a sliding engraved gothic door enclosing winder and hands adjustment, the movement with single fusee, 17.2cm high

An interesting framed souvenir of the Siege of Paris 1870-71, comprising a fragment of bread mounted on card with text including (trans) 300 grams of this bread, daily, 5 hours of waiting at the door of the Baker to get it, in 10 degrees below zero on the thermometer, together with a small wreath of immortelles, lead medallions of William of Prussia and Napoleon III, and lists of prices of meat, cheese, vegetables, etc including Egg 2f, ditto fresh 5f, in original passe partout wooden frame, 5½" x 6¼", GC (2 small flowers loose)

The curved and rounded rectangular body falling to an integral stand set to a further carved and shaped wooden base, the whole copper wheel engraved with a stylised figure in flowing robes playing a lute within shaped borders. The whole set to a hinged double door presentation box, height 23.5cm.
Class 42 Warship Hydraulic Door entrance notice 'LOW ENTRANCE MIND YOUR HEAD'. Alloy construction with red, engraved lettering, measuring 17¼" 5 ¾" approximately. As recovered from Warship Class loco D818 GLORY. Note: Each Class 42 carried 4 of these plates inside the doors because of the restricted headroom once entering the cab, as many drivers will remember!
GNR 8 inch Mahogany cased Fusee Clock LNER No 207 A N. The clock has a one piece turned surround with a cast brass bezel secured by a bezel lock, the dial is totally original and is painted in the early LNER style showing the rarely seen N suffix also visible in ghosted writing is GNR JJ STOCKALL & SONS LTD LONDON. The Fully overhauled chain driven fusee movement also bears the STOCKMAR trade mark to the front plate and the case still retains its original finish, research shows that this clock was located at Kings Cross York Road District Engineers Messengers Office. The clock was given to the vendor in the late 1960's as a present from his next door neighbour who was Eddie Klein, Eddie was one of the clock repairmen who worked at the Doncaster repair shop and his signature E.K. can be found on the backs of many BR(E), BR(NE) clocks. A stunning example of a very rare clock in fully restored and working condition, possibly the best example of this type ever to appear at auction.
