The case with faceted brass handle to a cushion top, the sides with silk-backed later carved wood frets above glazed rectangular panels, with moulded base raised on later block feet, the front door with carved wood fret panel to the top rail and gilt-brass foliate escutcheons, the 6 7/8in. square brass dial with winged cherub spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed 'J Constantine London', with sword-hilt half hour and half quarter hour markers, strike/not strike lever above 60, the matted centre with date aperture, the seven-ringed pillar movement with twin gut fusees and knife-edge suspended verge escapement (restored and with later heart-shaped back cock), with hour strike on bell and pull quarter repeat on three replaced bells, the back plate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls and signed on a central oval reserve John Constantine London, secured to the case via turn catches to the dial and a bolt through one movement pillar; with later travel box and pierced brass key13¾in.
