MOLE, A FINE LATE 19TH-CENTURY MICROSCOPE SLIDE COLLECTOR'S CABINET BY BROADHURST CLARKSON, containing approx. 500 slides, in 14 numbered and labelled drawers, each containing 39 professionally and privately prepared slides across a variety of subjects, the lower drawer unnumbered and containing spares and accessories, glazed and hinged door, on pedestal base -- 12 x 16¼ x 13in.
SOUVENIRS FROM MERTON, comprising an apparently unused stiff leather hat cockade with 'chelengk' and ribbon; a cast brass lion's mask door knob; and a small section of green wax jack taper in box with provenance, the cockade -- 5½in. (14cm.) high, -3, A label on the door knob alleges it was recovered from Merton during its demolition in the 1920s; the wax taper has a note alleging a connection to Nelson at Trafalgar; the cockade comes from the same source, the only corroboration perhaps being the addition of the chelengk motif.

Crake, Loddon: an early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, boxwood banded and foliate inlaid, the arched hood with freestanding fluted columns, arched long trunk door, the 12" steel dial engraved and with seconds subsidiary, the twin train movement striking on a bell, 230cm high, with a reproduction winding key, pendulum but lacking weights.** Edmund Crake is recorded 1836-46.
William Lawson Newton: A George III mahogany longcase clock, with arched hood, freestanding fluted columns, fret work frieze, shaped long trunk door between fluted quarter pilasters, the 14" brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring, subsidiary seconds, painted moon phase in the arch, the twin train movement striking on a bell, 228cm high (af).
