Ellicott, London, a good George III mahogany bracket clock, the brass mounted triple pad top case above signed circular 18cm enamel dial and twin subsidiaries above for regulation and strike-silent, set on an engraved 9inch brass dial plate, the twin fusee movement marked for Thwaites, the shouldered plates with engraved border and signed 'Ellicott London', bell striking with pull repeat cord, the rear of the case stamped '931', 43cm high, together with a later wall bracket Provenance: Meyrick Neilson of Tetbury, where purchased by the vendor's husband in 1973.Literature: John Ellicott (1706-1772) was one of the finest clockmakers of the 18th Century. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1738, serving on its council for three years. In 1760 he was joined in business by his son Edward and in 1762 he was appointed Clockmaker to the King. Thwaites supplied high quality movements to a number of clockmakers, including Allam and Clements, Henry Borrell, Dwerrihouse and Carter, Thomas Earnshaw, John Leroux, Francis Perigal and James Tregent. The present clock bears close comparison with lot 81 in Christie's Sale of 19th November 2009. Condition report: Small repair around keyhole. Front corner mouldings chipped. Corner veneer of rear door repaired. Movement rather clean. Very slight rubbing to centre of dial. Appears to strike properly. Slight lifting to pads.

Lot 1005

William Cattell in Fleet Street Londini fecit, a 17th century walnut marquetry month going longcase clock, the hood with later giltwood cresting above gilt pilasters, 10inch dial signed at the foot, winged mask spandrels, slender chapter ring and seconds dial, date aperture, maintaining power, scored winding squares, large outside countwheel to the six pillar movement, (five of which latched), latched dial feet, the trunk with three marquetry panels to the door, marquetry front plinth, on bun feet, 210cm (82in), measures approximately 255 cm with the hood lifted.  William Cattell is recorded by Britten as working 1664-90, apprenticed to Edward Stanton 1664, made a Freeman of the Clockmaker's Company in 1672. Condition report: Chapter ring outer engraving rather faint. Chapter ring possibly later. Seconds dial possibly replacement. Hands probably later. Seatboard looks old. Crack across top of trunk door. Various other marks and typical cracks and age-related wear and tear. Lacks one side throat convex moulding.

An imposing walnut seaweed marquetry longcase clock, the caddy top hood with fretwork mouldings, 12.25inch dial with silvered calendar ring to the arch, dolphin spandrels below, silvered chapter ring and seconds dial, marked to a recessed oval 'D.Delander, London, No.9', strike silent lever to the right side, mask spandrels, 4 pillar 8 day movement with replacement seatboard, rectangular trunk door and plinth with replaced skirting, restorations, 249cm (97in) Condition report: Case has a warm colour and appropriate looking shrinkage to mouldings. Skirting looks later. Small losses and knocks to case. Trunk lock key present (later lock). Non-original winding key. Good looking dial although we are unsure whether this is the original movement. Movement appears to fit though it is a simple four pillar type. We are unsure as to the authenticity of the Delander name on the dial.  Trunk door with loose moulding and part missing (see photo). Slight packing under seatboard. Guiderails possibly replaced. The inside of case appears to have an old colour wash. Two brass case weights present.

D'Honneur 1855', the backplate, door frame and base numbered '18' 15cm (6in)

The frieze inlaid with acanthus scroll above a central door, the panels depicting figures in a garden and another of a warrior on horseback, flanked by doors inset with further panels of love and war, depicting lovers in a landscape and the siege of a town, the stand with one long drawer with conforming panels enclosing a writing compartment, on spiral twist carved legs, united by a marquetry inlaid stretcher, bearing a blue lined label verso 'Gallery' (for Balls Park Gallery) 178 x 135 x 46cm (69 x 53 x 18in) Provenance: Trustees of the late 7th Viscount Townshend, Raynham Hall, Fakenham, Norfolk Balls Park, HertfordshireSmall areas of limber loss to the wrigglework framing of the panel inset to the drawer.
