Anton Hirschig (1867-1939)/Boy with Goat/signed with monogram and inscribed Brasschaat 1909)/oil on canvas, 54.75cm x 73cm/Note; Anton Hirschig, known to friends as Tony or Tom, lodged for a time at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise, in a room next door to that of Vincent van Gogh. When Van Gogh returned from the fields one evening with a gunshot wound, Hirschig assisted in notifying the physician and getting word to Vincent's brother Theo, who arrived in time to be with him as he passed away. Hirschig left Auvers shortly after the funeral. CONDITION REPORT: Unlined, some tiny areas of paint loss, cracquelure to the goat. Overall the condition appears very good. In a modern plaster gilt frame which is in good condition, apart from a dark drip mark to the lower right corner.
Liberty, British early 20th Century, a "New Studio" oak dresser/sideboard, possibly designed by Leonard Wyburd for the Holbein range, the top with glazed cupboard doors above a plate rack, the base fitted two drawers above two cupboard doors and single cupboard, locks stamped Liberty & Co., decorative handles and hinges, 203cm high x 241cm wide x 69cm deep/Provenance: The Millinery Works Exhibition, The Liberty Style - 125th Anniversary of Liberty & Co. June 2000; illustrated John Andrews, Arts and Crafts Furniture CONDITION REPORT: The upper glazed doors appear to have been forced open and there is a split to the central frame on the left side, the upper bolt lock to this door is broken. The hinges on the right hand side have been bent and the key lock on this door is in the locked position (no key). The cornice to the top is dented and marked along the outermost edge, the left end of this cornice has part of the trim missing. There is a long horizontal split to the back panel above the base, the edge to bracket of right elevated shelf has become detached (but present). Knocks and scratches throughout. The Upper trim to this dresser is present but not attached. Evidence of new screws to the rear between the base and upper section. The double cupboard doors to the base have a lower bolt lock missing and the key lock is missing completely. The single cupboard to the right hand side is locked and we do not have a key.Further knocks, stains and scratches throughout.
