(Kanten und Ecken stärker beschabt, etwas fleckig, leicht angeschmutzt, berieben und kleinem Wurmlöchlein) unter Verwendung eines Blattes aus einer mittelalterlichen Handschrift des 13.-14. Jahrhunderts, mit rotem RSchild. Amsterdam. Willem Jansz Blaeuw, 1622.Landwehr 84. - Die fünfte von drei erschienenen Teilen des hübsch illustrierten Emblembuchs, hier in einem Exemplar, welche im Jahr 1622 in Amsterdam erschien. Der niederländische Dichter und Politiker Jacob Cats (1577-1660) genoss eine großartige Popularität und wurde von vielen, sogar noch nach seinem Tod gelesen. Seine Werke tragen ohne Ausnahme einen moralisierenden Charakter, wobei die christliche Normen immer wieder in seinen Werken durchdringen. Die schönenen Frontispize von F. Schillemanns sind nach einer Zeichnung Adriaen van de Vennes mit der gravierten Jahreszahl "1618". - Kupfertitel alt aufgezogen. - Titel mit Riss am Bug und Eckausschnitt unten rechts (minimaler Serifenverlust), rechter Steg fingerfleckig. Titelseite mit einem hs. Besitzvermerk eines "Siegf. Ferd. à Machfried 7. October 1659" sowie einem Exlibris der Bibliothek des Grafen Ignaz Chorinsky. Bemerkenswert ist der flexible Pergamenteinband. Er wurde mit einem Fragmentstück einer mittelalterlichen Handschrift des 13.-14. Jahrhunderts bezogen. Vorhanden sind Stücke aus zwei Kolumnen mit 2-zeiliger grüner Initale mit rotem Federwerk und Rubrizierung (unterer Teil, Breite: ca. 11,5, vorhandene Höhe ca. 16,5) eines interessanten, seltenen Textberichts über den berühmten Kölner Königsschrein mit den Reliquien der Heiligen Drei Könige: "Sicut nobis narraverunt qui presentes erant eorum translationi. cum corpora eorum levarentur de locellis suis. tanta ibi fuit flagrantia. ut omnes qui aderant eius suavitate reficerentur. Singula corpora singulos dederunt odores. et differabat odor ab odore. ut merito dicere possent illud apostolicum. christi bonus odor summus deo in omni loco" (übersetzt etwa: "Zum Beispiel erklärten sie denen, die anwesend waren, die Tatsache, dass es sich um die Überführung handelte. Damit sie mit ihren eigenen Körpern aus dem Sarg gewaschen würden. Auf jedem züngelte eine Flamme. So dass alle, die anwesend waren, von der Süße erfrischt waren. Jeder einzelne Körper gab einen eigenen Geruch preis. Und jeder Geruch unterschied sich in seinem Aroma. Und es war offenbar, das es sich bei jenen einzelnen um Apostel handelte. Denn der süße Geruch Christi wird in allen uns offenbar"). Der lateinische Text findet sich im Kapitel "Bericht über die hh. Dreikönige in Köln. Pergament-Handschrift der königl. Bibliothek im Haag.
