A late 18th century oak and cross-banded mahogany cased, 8-day weight driven long case clock, arched painted dial with rolling moon feature and centre calendar, the falseplate marked Wilson, matched blued steel hands, dial indistinctly signed possibly by J.Carter, Warrington, with weights and pendulum, approximate height 223 cm (h) Estimate £400 - £600 This lot MUST be paid for and collected, or delivery arranged, no later than close of business on Tuesday. Please do not bid if you are unable to complyCondition report: The clock is in good original condition, the dial looks to be original/ unrestored and retains the character of the Wilson features, the movement needs some bushing so a service should be factored in, the moon disc and calendar hand moves. Door has the lock but no key. We have not attempted to set the clock up for running, though the escapement and strike trains work with pressure on the great wheels.
An imposing late 18th century mahogany cased, 8-day weight driven longcase clock, the painted Wilson dial with rolling moon feature and inscribed Arch'd (Archibald) Coates, Wigan, matched blued steel hands, weight and pendulum, 228 cm (high) (Loomes lists two makers of this name, the first of whom died in 1797. This clock is probably by the son, listed as working in Wigan until 1810 when he became publican at The Cock Inn, Millgate, Wigan)Condition report: The clock is in good original condition, the dial has been very well restored and retains the character of the Wilson features, the hood door has had repair many years ago where the arch section has broken, the movement is fairly clean though needs some bushing so a service should be factored in, the moon disc moves with the hands though the calendar dial does not seem to work. Some woodwork is missing from the base sides though there are several pieces of wood with the lot that may complete the case. Door has the lock and key. We have not attempted to set the clock up for running, though the escapement and strike trains work with pressure on the great wheels.
