A mid-19th century 8-day oak and mahogany longcase clock retailed by John Stokes of Knutsford c 1840, with a swans neck pediment, three ball and eagle spun brass finials and brass paterae, square hood door flanked by ring turned pilasters, trunk with reeded quarter columns and capitals with a raised mahogany panel, short inlaid trunk door with a flat top and concave corners, plinth raised on decorative feet with canted corners and a conforming raised panel, fully painted dial with matching spandrels depicting country churches and yellow flowers on a gold lustre ground, broad Roman numerals, minute track, matching brass �crown� hands, subsidiary seconds dial and semi-circular date aperture with calendar disc behind, dial pinned via a Walker cast iron false plate to a weight driven rack striking movement, striking the hours on a bell. With pendulum, weights and key. Original casemakers label nailed to the rear of the case with the clockmakers name handwritten in ink.
