Attributed to Francis Bullock of Thame - a late 17th century walnut cased longcase clock, having re-gilded 9" square brass dial, with silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes for a brass eight day five-pillar movement, having maintaining power and striking on a bell, the narrow case with fruitwood inlays and boxbase, h.207cmCondition report: The whole has clearly had significant alterations – please see images.Whole backboard is later.Clock stands well.Mouldings around door are possibly later.Colour good and veneers complete, appears recently polished.Dial fits case quite well but not perfectly.Dial has been re-gilded.Appears to be a dial marriage.Lock over winding holes work, but appears to be replacement.Seatboard is later.Cheeks reinforced.Door inscribed Francis Bullock Thame.Movement has been over-hauled but appears all original – no inexplicable holes etc.Bell is modern replacement.Carcase is pine with oak backboard.Minor warping to door but it fits well.Minor traces of old inactive woodworm.Consigned from a local private clock and watch collector who has moved overseas.
A Sheraton period mahogany and inlaid inverted breakfront sideboard, the top with satinwood crossbanding and ebony and boxwood chequer stringing, the sides with twin cupboard doors with oval crossbanded fielded panels, the central bowfront frieze drawer over fan marquetry inlays, the whole raised on moulded and square tapering supports, w.168cm, d.66cm, h.90.5cmCondition report: The whole stands well.Of good, rich and consistent colour.Top with fine 15” split to back right corner.Left hand side doors with veneer blistering and loss.Right hand door with vertical split.Right front panel with horizontal 9” split.Some minor veneer losses / repairs.Typical age wear but otherwise good.Brass escutcheons are old replacements.Provenance: Consigned from a local deceased estate, being descendants of Robert Heath (of Robert Heath & Sons, founders of the Biddulph Valley Colliery and Iron Works) who resided at Biddulph Grange between 1871-1922, and direct descendants of the Earls of Denbigh of Newnham Paddox.
A late Regency rosewood breakfront side cabinet, having an associated ledgeback over a plain frieze, four later mirrored doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the whole with gilt metal mounts, w.183cm, d.41cm, h.94cm (excluding ledgeback)Condition report: Stands well.Mirror inserts are later.No signs of a previous superstructure.Central right hand door warped at top.No signs of woodworm.Interior dimensions – centre 26.5cm, sides 22.5cm.Some gouge marks along rear area to top surface.Edged veneers missing from each side at back.Large notch cut out at top back area of right hand side panel.Shaped areas cut out from bottom of each side to fit skirting board.Colour good and original.
In the manner of Jupe - a Regency style mahogany radial extending dining table, all raised on four ring turned columns to square cut outswept supports with brass caps and casters, dia.185cm, h.72cm; together with the original five section leaf cabinet with panelled door and brass carry handles, w.48cmCondition report: Stands well, is level and strong.Colour match good.Solid top.Central area with some fine and light surface scratches only.Leaf cabinet door reluctant to open.Un-extended dia.127cm.
