A MAHOGANY CASED LONG CASE MOON PHASE 8 DAY CLOCKBy R. Roberts, Bromsgrove The 13 inch dial with gilt spandrels and painted moon phase section, within a mahogany case with fluted column flanking either side of the case and hood, with two weights and one pendulum, 241cm high excluding missing finialCondition report: Two weights, pendulum, no key. The case is cleaned and polished with various inevitable scuffs, scratches, dents, small chips and marks commensurate with wear, use and age. Slight warp to the bottom of the door. Dial with various blemishes and areas of tarnish, small spots of tarnishing. The movement and dial appear to be original to each other, and it’s likely that the movement is original to the case. There is some alteration to the seat board cheeks: the right hand side is cut away with the equivalent piece on top of the check to maintain balance. See extra images for further explanation. The movement is dirty and will require a full service / overhaul. There is no guarantee of its working order. The movement is a standard 8 day with striking bell.
A MAHOGANY 8-DAY LONGCASE CLOCK18th Century The 11 1/2 in. chased silvered dial, named William Carter, Southwark, with gilt spandrels, within a mahogany case with fluted columns and three ball finials, 210cm high excluding finialsCondition report:The case with various damages including a section of veneer and timber missing on the right hand side moulding below the hood, and vertical splitting along the back edge of the left hand side. Another smaller horizontal section of veneer missing to the right hand side return. Further other scratches, crack and chips to the veneers, together with extensive dirt and dust. See extra images. The top of the hood with three brass ball finials, two of which have been rescrewed and one loose. All are in worn condition. A winding key present and two weights but no pendulum. The silvering to the central are of the dial is dirty, tarnished and with scuffs. The other elements also invariably and consistently worn commensurate with use and age. No lock present to the glass door of the hood but the door to the trunk with a key. The movement will need to be inspected and checked by specialist clock restorer and there is no guarantee of it's working order. It will require a full overhaul.

Samuel died in 1746 but relatively few of his clocks appear to have survived, but those that do show skill and care and quality of craftmanship.The case showing some signs of repair, particularly to the cornice. Lacking the board across the top. The cheek supporting the movement replaced or altered, therefore suggesting that the movement and case possibly associated. The movement seemingly complete, but dusty and in need of a clean, with some possible restoration. The plinth almost certainly later, being stained pine.

A GOOD AND EXTREMELY RARE CASED 80-BORE PERCUSSION PRESENTATION NEEDHAM'S PATENT REVOLVER, no visible serial number, circa 1854 and conforming to Henry Needhams Patent 2184 of 20th September 1853, with blued octagonal 4 1/4in. barrel, each flat borderline engraved and with further engraved band at muzzle, the top-strap signed 'H. NEEDHAM, LONDON', dove-tailed blade and bead fore-sight, notch rear-sight to the back of the solid top-strap, colour hardened cylinder with engraved bands front and rear and a central broad band of scroll engraving, angled nipples, radiused border and scroll engraved colour-hardened slab-sided receiver with external hammer, gravity operated safety and quick-release mechanism for the barrel and cylinder, border engraved back-strap marked 'S. BIRDSEYE' in gothic lettering, almost certainly the original owner's name, semi saw-handled finely chequered walnut grip, engraved iron grip-cap with central trap-door for caps and no provision for rammer, much original colour and finish remaining throughout and together with its oak storage case lined and compartmented in green baize and complete with a flask, scissors mould, nipple-key, loading rod and cap-tin, lock escutcheon absent, the lid escutcheon initialled 'S.B.'. The revolver comes with a facsimile copy of the 1853 Needham patent No. 2184.
