Arts and Crafts interest: Three original ink & watercolour designs for door "finger plates", produced in 1892 at the Municipal School of Art, Margaret Street, Birmingham. Evocative of the era, reminiscent of designers such as William Morris. Together with an accompanying letter, addressed to the designer and dated 1st November 1892, confirming that the designs were purchased by John Franklin-Adams of Lloyd's of London. Also a section taken from a contemporary publication, published June 1892, discussing the designs as part of a feature on 'Furniture and Decoration'. To include a preliminary pencil & ink sketch for the designs, plus a smaller design for a competition in 1888. Vendor believes the designs were eventually used within Buckingham Palace.
