The history of the Sportster in the Harley Davidson range can be traced back to the introduction of the side valve K series machines introduced in 1952. Intended to compete with the overhead valve 500cc British machines on both the track and the road, the new models were considerably lighter than their overhead valve brothers. The next major step in the evolution of the range came in 1957 when the overhead valve 883cc XL series of machines was introduced to be joined at the beginning of the 1970's by a larger capacity variant initially displacing 997cc. Whilst the 883cc engine size would remain a constant, continuing to this day, the larger variant would undergo two further increases in capacity, the first coming in 1986 with the introduction of the Evo 1100cc the second in 1988 when the 1200cc engine was adopted. Throughout production the Sportster, in both capacities, has retained its slim, stripped down appearance, with the 883 proving to be particularly popular with riders purchasing their first Harley. This iconic motorcycle is presented in metallic grey and has only covered a mere 9,940 miles from new. The present owner had the bike fully recommissioned in 2020 which included a new drivebelt, new battery and serviced. It has covered zero miles since 2020 and has been stored carefully. A great touring bike with low mileage, ready to use!
The BMW E39 is the fourth generation of the BMW 5 Series range of executive cars, which was manufactured from 1995 to 2004. It was launched in the saloon body style, with the estate body style (marketed as Touring) introduced in 1996. The E39 was replaced by the E60 5 Series in 2003, however E39 Touring models remained in production until May 2004. The proportion of chassis components using aluminium significantly increased for the E39, and it was the first 5 Series to use aluminium for all major components in the front suspension or any in the rear. It was also the first 5 Series where a four-cylinder diesel engine was available.Imported from Japan, this immaculate example is presented in Metallic Grey with black leather interior and comes with full service history including 14 invoices and 11 stamps in the book. It has an electric glass sunroof, heated electric front seats, cruise control, climate control and electric folding mirrors. These models are superbly built, offering great performance and comfort. It also comes with a mileage guarantee certificate.
The 944 was to feature new styling based upon the Le Mans-styles-Porsche 924 Carrera GT, along with a brand-new Porsche-designed and developed 2.5 litre, four-cylinder engine. Sales of the 168bhp coupé went through the roof with a massive 26,800 Porsche 944s being produced by the end of 1982. To put this figure into context, the entire Porsche company made just 28,000 cars in 1981. The new Porsche owners were attracted by the stunning looks and presence of the model and in 1985, the 'Lux' coupé arrived with a completely new interior design dominated by a smooth, sweeping oval dashboard. This severed all ties with the 924 and completed the move upmarket for the 944. The dash provided improved ergonomics for the instruments with all useful components and buttons placed close at hand. Originally registered on 23rd March 1989, this fabulous Porsche has been exceedingly well cared for by the vendor. Mechanically the car is faultless and the same can be said for the cosmetics. The blue coachwork was refreshed to a very high standard, the vendor then proceeded to have the car completely PPFd (paint protection film) at a cost of circa £5,000. The Linen leather interior is in splendid condition with a lovely patina. The split rim alloys are new and unmarked, the original wheels are available and will be supplied with the car. The fastidious vendor is a very knowledgeable classic car collector and has ensured this Porsche presents in the best possible condition and wants for nothing. A Porsche 944 turbo is a great car to drive, particularly with a manual gearbox as this example is. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 17th September 2022, this is an extremely fine Porsche.
After an initial attempt to enter the luxury motor car market, which did not get beyond the prototype stage, Hotchkiss decided on a one model policy and introduced the Coventry designed AM in 1923. Prior to 1929 the company continued with a one model policy until the introduction of the six-cylinder AM73 and AM80 models were announced. 73 and 80 stood for the bore of the engines used, a naming theme picked up again later in 1936 after a brief hiatus. WB of Motorsport Magazine said, I think it is safe to say that the Hotchkiss Company was one of those manu-facturers who never made a bad car, or at least very few of them. Certainly in the post-vintage years Hotch-kiss advocates you could sit in their 100mph Paris-Nice saloons feeling in no way inferior to their neighbours who had invested in Bentleys new Silent Sports Car.This Hotchkiss AM 80 Monaco was imported into the UK from the Netherlands in April 2018 and is believed to have been restored in France in the late 1970s or early 80s. It is understood the owner in Holland didnt use the car a great deal, initially using it to drive to the annual village fete and back once or twice a year. Presented in good order throughout the bodywork is solid and retains a nice patina from its earlier restoration. The doors shut beautifully with a click, while the interior is presented in very good order. The beige cloth seats are very good and the solid wood window capping and clean headlining making it a very comfortable mode of transport. The boot is sound and waterproofed and has been adapted to carry various tools (which will be included in the sale). The current vendor has recommissioned and maintained the Hotchkiss wherever necessary and as such it is in very good condition. Notable work included a new clutch, and a reconditioned braking system. It has also been rewired and a new battery mounted under the rear floor along with a battery master switch and modern high-torque starter motor. In 2019 the engine was rebuilt with a set of stronger con-rods, pistons, new oil pump gears, valves ground, etc. Offered with a history file containing a collection of handbooks and brochures, sundry invoices, and the UK Registration document this well sorted example drives very well indeed and sounds fantastic when on song.
The Jaguar Mk. II was a medium sized saloon built from 1959 to 1967 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre models. The Mk. II was handsome, powerful, and good handling saloon which was offered with a choice of three six-cylinder twin cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. After the appreciation of the Mk. I, Jaguar's successor was well received thus making a good car even better. Similar in appearance but with a bigger glass area, it boasted a wider track to improve road holding together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll and fitted with the new Dunlop disc brakes all-round rather than drum brakes. The 210bhp 3.4 litre engine variant proved to be the most popular, offering the best compromise between performance and economy. Naturally, the performance was excellent, and the Mk. II has enjoyed great success on the track and can still be a very competitive historic race car. Raced by all the top drivers of the day including Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Michael Parkes, the Mk. II scored victories throughout saloon car races in the 60's and was also raced across Europe in the Tour de France and Monte-Carlo rally. The car also gained a reputation as a capable 'getaway car' among the criminal underworld. The Mk. II had seating for five adults and in 3.8 litre specification, could outrun almost any other car on the road. This example is presented in light Quartz Gunmetal Grey with blue leather interior. This was originally a Rhodesian car which we understand was imported to the UK in 2014 and registered with the DVLA in May 2015. Its original 3.4 engine has been replaced by the more potent and powerful 3.8 litre which is mated to a Borg Warner three-speed automatic gearbox. The interior is in good condition with the burr walnut woodwork looking good and is complimented by the Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, so evocative of this era. The car comes with an original Jaguar workshop manual, Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and various invoices. These are quintessentially British and evoke many nostalgic memories for a great deal of people, this is no exception!
One of the most synonymous names in British motoring history, Railton Cars was founded in 1933 by Noel Macklin, a well-respected engineer who had already established his credentials as a top class car manufacturer with the Invicta marque which he founded in 1925. For his new venture he teamed up with Reid Railton, another brilliant engineer perhaps most famous for designing Sir Malcolm Campbell’s ‘Bluebird’ Land Speed Record cars of 1931 to 1935, and John Cobb’s record-breaking ‘Railton Mobil Special’. Manufactured at the old Invicta works on Fairmile estate in Cobham, Railtons’ were handbuilt to order for a wealthy client base, no two Railtons were exactly alike but all were excellent cars and survivors are highly sought after today. The marque was effectively killed-off at the outbreak of WW2, having manufactured 1,379 Eights of all types. This extremely rare Railton has an interesting history. It was sold in 1966 via The Railton Owners Club to Mr Henry Stonor who was a rubber planter in Malaya. When in Malaya the car underwent extensive refurbishment including the engine and gearbox. Stonor raced two cars, an Alvis and this Railton which took first place in the 1976 Vintage Grand Prix. When Stonor retired and returned to the UK the Railton was sold through the services of Barry McKenzie, club secretary at the time, to Timothy Railton. His father Reid Railton was by this time deceased and Timothy took the car to his home in the U.S., where he had the car tidied up and painted in the cream colour it still wears today. The current vendor, a well respected and knowledgeable Railton enthusiast, purchased the car from Timothy in 2004 and repatriated the car back to the UK. Throughout his tenureship he has replaced the cylinder head and valves. The starter motor, dynamo and fuel pump have also been replaced, the fuel tank has been restored. The wet weather gear consisting of the hood and tonneau cover have also been replaced. Aesthetically a very handsome vehicle this Railton Tourer was bodied originally by Carbodies of Coventry and it still bears the same body today. A true piece of British motoring history with a very interesting history.
The E-Type design owed much to that of the racing D-Type, a monocoque tub forming the main structure while a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the engine. Conceived and developed as an open sportscar, the Jaguar E-Type debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961 in Coupé form. The car caused a sensation, spontaneous applause breaking out at the unveiling, with its instantly classic lines and a 140mph plus top speed. In October 1964 the 4.2 litre model was released. The more powerful engine, all-synchromesh gearbox and Lockheed brake servo formed part of the new specification and made for a much more user-friendly car. Apart from '4.2' badging, the car's external appearance was unchanged, but under the skin there were numerous detailed improvements, mainly to the electrical and cooling systems, and to the seating which was upgraded to a more comfortable touring style. Top speed remained unchanged at around 150mph, but the main performance gain from the larger engine was more torque at lower RPM.This lovely, original, right hand drive 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I 2+2 Coupé was supplied new in the UK with body number 7573. Sometime in the late seventies or eighties the car was exported to the USA and later, in 2013, it was sold by a Jaguar specialist near Boston, Massachusetts and returned to the UK. On repatriation the E-type was restored and included work carried out on the body before it was resprayed. The engine was rebuilt and the gearbox overhauled. Further work included a rebuilt rear axle with new discs, brake pipes, pads and shock absorbers. Brakes were also overhauled along with a new stainless-steel exhaust fitted and new chrome wire wheels fitted at each corner and new rubbers. Finally, the car was given an MoT and registered in the UK in May 2016 and now looks resplendent in red with a beautifully trimmed biscuit interior. This E-Type is supplied with a V5C registration document, and two large files of bills accompany the car from specialists such as SNG Barret and Martin Robey detailing parts and work carried out for the restoration. Beautifully finished and highly usable, this Series I E-Type offers practicality and desirability in one complete package.
A modern classic by Pininfarina, the simple yet elegant Spider bodywork that premiered on the 1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto would prove enduringly popular, lasting into the 1990s. All S3 2000 Alfa Romeos were produced left hand drive however a select few dealers such as Lombarda and Bell & Colvill used Ellisons of Hull to convert these prior to sale from new, with all UK S3 therefore missing a passengers side glovebox. The Pininfarina designed Alfa Romeo offered here was manufactured during 1985 and first registered in the UK on 6th August 1985 in right hand drive guise. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016 as a stalled project and set to work by fitting new outer sills and having the car fully repainted in Alfa Romeo Rosso. Whilst trying to keep as much originality as possible, the seats needed reconditioning and the car was also treated to a Quadrifoglio Verde front spoiler; a preferred option and deemed an improvement on the Series Three Aerodynamica chin spoiler. The vendor reports that mechanically the car is in great shape with recent replacement engine mounts and a rebuilt gearbox by Bob Dove racing in 2020. The suspension was also overhauled recently with all bushes and springs being replaced and it also boasts Koni shock absorbers all round, a new servo, starter and radiator. Our vendor has driven the car all over the UK, including trips to Scotland stating It's a great car for circumnavigating lochs and tracking coastlines and is very comfortable and capable over long distances. The service history, a thick A4 ring binder going back to the mid 80s, includes many receipts from Alfa Romeo specialists. The folder also contains previous log books and the vast majority of previous MOT's and the Certificato Di Origine from the Alfa Museum which shows the date of manufacture as 12th April 1985. With a current MoT valid until September 2022, this is a lovely package combining a capable driving experience with solid provenance and viewing is recommended.
Some ideas are just moments of genius, shifting a concept around 180° and leaving other manufacturers playing catch-up. This was the case with Fiats new Multipla. Not only was it their first rear wheel drive car but they went one step further and moved the cockpit over the front wheels, allowing this interior to now seat six people in three rows in comfort, a concept still in production today. The engine in the 600D was 767cc unit, an eminently flexible motor with a top speed just under 70mph making these charming and practical little vehicles among the most sought after of all post-war Fiats. This charming Multipla has spent most of its life in Italy, until four years ago when our vendor purchased from the previous long-term owner. Having undergone a full bare metal, no expense spared restoration and repaint with underbody renovation by Automotive in Martina Fraca, Southern Italy to showcase their paint products. More recently having been used to ferry friends and family around on the Isle of Wight where it presides, wherever it goes it creates quite a stir. A best in show winner on the two occasions it has been entered, we are informed by the vendor she starts, drives, and stops superbly, with all gears selecting correctly. Offered with V5C registration document, current MoT certificate and original import papers. Classic Multiplas in this superb condition are rare and this one, goes as well as it looks€¦and it looks gorgeous.
A direct descendant of Jaguars giant-killing D-Type, the E-Type naturally borrowed many styling and engineering cues, the body was slippery and voluptuous, looking fast even when stationary. The engine, initially, was the same 3.8 litre unit with triple SU carburettors, independent suspension, and disc brakes. The car evolved however, over time, with an engine upgrade in 1968 to 4.2 litres as well as various body modifications such as front scoop, headlights and indicators for the Series II model. Autocar described it, at the time, as €œthe fastest car we've ever tested€.The history file accompanying this example is extensive to say the least, detailing ongoing improvements including a light restoration in 1991/92 have contributed to this original righthand drive fixedhead model. According to the JDHT certificate, it was delivered new to Mr. G. Martinson with England cricketer and coach, Graeme Fowler taking delivery more recently and John Bintcliffe, Audi racing driver/team finally taking the wheel prior to the vendor.Since then, in 1999, rear bearings were added as well as cap-leads, plugs, bulbs, filters etc. Later, new tyres were fitted all round as well as new Boge shock absorbers to the front. In 2000, it had a full engine and gearbox rebuild with new nitrided valve guides and bearings. This included a carburettor rebuild and new exhaust manifold. The new clutch is a three-part Borg & Beck unit and, obviously, all new hoses and fan belts were added. In 2011/12, all suspension bushes, ball joints and tie rod ends were replaced along with rear shock absorbers and front torsion bars. The steering column was also rebuilt alongside a completely new interior with an up-to-date radio/CD/MP3 unit and hands-free telephony. In the last 12 months, it has had new front discs and pads, overhauled front suspension with new shock absorbers, front and rear and springs to the rear with a rebuilt rear cradle assembly, as well as a new radiator and cowling. Complete with a new clutch, a fresh MoT test certificate and plenty of books and manuals, this most classic of sporting coupés is well priced, well put together and extremely well documented.
The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two-door convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form! The SL55 AMG is further enhanced by an F1 Performance Package offering a truly dynamic driving experience; this high-performance version of the roadster is closely derived from the official FIA Safety Car for 2002. The enhanced dynamic characteristics relate to an extensive range of revisions to its body - engine cooling system, brakes, and suspension. Larger cooling-air intakes and an additional engine-oil cooler ensure that the AMG V8 super-charged engine is maintained at the optimum operating temperatures during aggressive driving. The SL55 AMG with the Performance Package also draws on its Formula 1 counterpart when it comes to the chassis set-up, together with the choice of wheels and tyres. The Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers based the configuration on the set-up used by official FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer on all the F1 Grand Prix circuits. This example of the incredibly desirable SL55 with the F1 Performance Pack is finished in gleaming Obsidian Black over a mid-grey and black ash interior; it appears almost unmarked. Fitted with a set of hollow-spoke, 19" F1 split-rim alloys, shod with 4 correct Pirelli tyres, the car is also de-restricted to its maximum 186mph should you be brave enough! Options including panoramic glass Vario roof, Bose sound-system, key-less go, CD and Command NAV. The SL55 has ten service invoices, the last service undertaken in January 2020. Maintained regardless of cost this Mercedes has recently benefited from new control arms and bushes fitted to the front suspension and a recent ABC flush, the work costing circa £1,500. This wonderful looking example is an opportunity not to be missed. A collectable, comfortable and extremely capable modern classic.
The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin. In August 2011, Land Rover announced an update of the Defender for the 2012 model year. By this time, Land Rover publicly acknowledged that it was working on a project to produce an all-new replacement for the Defender. Then in line for the 2012 models was the installation of a different engine Ford decided, due to cost reasons, not to modify the engine introduced in 2007 and so the engine was replaced with the ZSD-422 engine, essentially a 2.2-litre variant of the same engine. Supplied by Barretts of Canterbury and originally registered on 30th June 2014 this one owner Land Rover presents in good all-round condition. This seven seat Defender is a Limited Edition and has a comprehensive specification with Expedition roof rack, a tow bar, air conditioning, heated front seats, upgraded sound system, heated front screen, electric winch on the front and a snorkel. It has been exceptionally well maintained by the fastidious vendor, having been serviced every year, the last service was on 14th May 2021 at 48,180 miles. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 31st May 2022 and the original service books. These robust, go anywhere vehicles have become increasingly desirable in recent years, this great example is sure to be one that catches the eye.
The Triumph TR5 was manufactured for just 13 months, from August 1967 through to September 1968 and is the most sought after of the Michelotti /Karmann-styled Triumph sports roadsters, combining the most elegant early looks with all-independent suspension and the best engine. Optional extras included overdrive, wire wheels and the Surrey top with detachable roof panel. Visually identical to the Michelotti-styled TR4, the TR5 hid its main differences under the body and the most significant of these was the engine, the first British production sports car unit to feature petrol injection. The 2,498cc straight-six used Lucas new indirect injection system to develop 150bhp. It's the TR5 that aficionados seek out as the most attractive and collectible of the series. This absolutely superb TR5 was the subject of a full restoration, and the result is stunning! It is presented in gleaming red with a black hood and black interior. It is powered by the lively 2.5 litre straight six engine which sounds terrific when the foot is firmly down on the accelerator. The history file is considerable and all invoices and details of its restoration can be found in this file. This car wants for nothing and is ready for the British Spring and Summer! Superb! The car is being sold with a NOVA and the purchaser will be responsible for registering the car with the DVLA.
These fabulous sports cars were unveiled at the Geneva Salon in 1977 and voted Car of the Year for 1978. It was intended as an upmarket replacement for the long-running 911 but in the event Porsche's rear-engined classic would outlive its younger sibling. The front-engined 928's stylish hatchback body featured aluminium doors, bonnet and front wings in the interests of weight saving, while ingenious impact resistant 'bumpers' made of colour matched plastic were incorporated into the nose and tail. A five-speed transaxle gearbox or three-speed automatic were the transmission options, in 1979 the 928S with its 4.6 litre engine arrived and then in 1986 the model was further revised and restyled, becoming the 928 S4. Its engine producing 320bhp courtesy of twin-cam, 16 valve cylinder heads and enlargement to 4,957cc, the S4 enjoyed a welcome top speed boost to 160mph.Originally registered in January 1990, this handsome Porsche presents well in Grey metallic which is complemented with grey leather. Power delivery is smooth from the five litre 320 bhp engine and we are told this Porsche is a joy to drive. We are also informed that the file for this autobahn cruiser contains a V5C registration document, a good service history and an MoT test certificate valid until July 2022. Porsche 928s have recently rediscovered their rightful popularity in recent years and represent a fantastic way to enjoy the open road.
