Two Tamiya models measuring approximately 400 mm in length, one exposing the internal workings, meticulously constructed with incredibly intricate detailing and encased in a bespoke Perspex display case measuring 44cm x 46.5cm x 21cm.The Williams FW14B is a Driver’s and Constructor’s Championship winning Formula One car raced by the Williams team in the 1992 season. The car was designed by Adrian Newey  using a semi-automatic transmission, active suspension, traction control and, for a brief period, anti-lock brakes. Powered by a 3.5-litre V10 Renault engine with its design and development led by Bernard Dudot, the car is considered one of the most technologically sophisticated to have competed in F1. The FW14B was so successful that its successor (the FW15), which was available mid-season in 1992, was never used. Nigel Mansell wrapped up the 1992 Drivers' Championship with a then-record 9 wins in a season, Patrese scored a further win at the Japanese Grand Prix. There were many races in the 1992 season where Mansell and Patrese would gain 2 seconds per lap on the rest of the field, especially in the early laps. The season ended in acrimony as Mansell left the team after Alain Prost was signed, while Patrese moved to Benetton for his swansong season in 1993.Click here for more details and images

A brightly hued little S1, ex-Elise Trophy but now re-registered and carefully prepared for Fast Road/Trackdays.Modified some years ago to Lotus Elise Trophy specification, this particular Elise, finished in Norfolk Yellow, has led an interesting life having been converted to compete in various race series which it did with some success. Mechanically, the engine is based on a TF160 unit, with MS2 head and VVC hydraulic followers, PTP stainless valves, PTP valve springs, Newman PH3 cams, Piper vernier pulleys and 52mm throttle body with gases exiting through a Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and a 5’’ pipe with lightened silencer. Other noted additions are a lightweight flywheel, B4BP gearbox and a Torsen LSD.To ensure an element of safety, it's fitted with a full ‘Custom Cages’ 6-point cage and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system. More recently it has been maintained, regardless of cost, by Hillspeed, Formula 3 Specialists in Derbyshire, and has been re-registered for road use so could be used as a 'fast road' or a track day car with the potential to provide some quite serious enjoyment.  Having not raced in recent years, there may now be some upgrades required to meet current regulations should the new custodian wish to go down that route but, currently with fast road and track day use in mind, our vendor has just had the vehicle thoroughly checked at considerable cost to ensure that the Elise is on the button and ready to go. This attention included a complete brake overhaul and caliper refurbishment, new LP Racing brake discs, replacement stainless steel brake hoses, a new Varley battery and replacement fluids throughout in addition to general service items and an advisory free MOT all at a cost in excess of £6,000. Our vendor has requested that we point out that the Elise is only for sale due to his increasing years and imminent race licence renewal, presenting an exciting proposition without all the preparation for its next custodian.SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELISE S1Year: 1996Chassis Number: SCC111YN1VHA10392Registration Number: P659 LGMTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 18K4FJ31421105Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 95580 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

One of nine cars built by Arnott's Garages in Harlesden, this JAP-engined 500 has been a regular in motorsport paddocks for over 70 years. The name of Arnott has long been associated with high-performance motoring and the manufacture of superchargers, so it’s a little ironic that the cars that bear the Arnott name were built for Formula 3 (500), a Formula that specifically excluded superchargers. Daphne Arnott was born into a family with a deep-rooted passion for motorsports, her grandfather ran the Werner Motorcycle Company and her father designed the Arnott Supercharger. Daphne joined the family business in 1948 and soon became equally passionate about motor racing which was just developing again after the war years. It was a trio of visits to Brands Hatch and a chance meeting with George Thornton that changed her life. George convinced her that atmospheric induction could still produce potent vehicles despite her family's belief that forced induction was the way forward. She was intrigued and enthusiastic about George’s ideas for a new Formula 3 car (lightweight tube-frame chassis powered by 500cc motorcycle engines) and committed to support his plans. Arnott’s management don’t appear to have been impressed, so it was up to Daphne and George to treat the whole thing as a private venture, however, they were able to reserve a corner of the company’s general garage section at Harlesdon to build the cars as long as they worked outside of normal working hours. The first car used a tubular ladder-frame with torsion-bar suspension and achieved some success both in racing as well as in breaking Class 1 records at Montlhery in 1953. A supercharged Austin A30-engined sports car was offered from 1954, and a 1,098cc Coventry-Climax model was introduced in time for the 1955 race at Le Mans. The Arnott 500 was intended for series-production and was aimed at the growing number of young drivers who were becoming interested in Formula 3.This well presented example of the Arnott 500 is fitted with a Jap 498cc engine mated to a 4-speed Norton clutch and gearbox driving the rear wheels, motorcycle-style, with a chain to the rear axle. It has the added benefit of being fitted with a self-starter, making this car extremely easy to run and obviating the need to push it around the paddock, trying to avoid everyone else doing the same thing, until it starts. The steering is rack and pinion and the car sits on period cast alloy 15'' wheels. It was originally campaigned in 1952 by R D Beenan and has been raced on circuits and Hill Climbs ever since. The car is well known in the 500 Owners Association who confirmed that it still retains its original chassis and has been very competitive over the years.A superb, early single seater which would undoubtedly be welcomed by the Half-Litre Car Club, the 500 Club and the 500 Owners Association.SpecificationMake: ARNOTTModel: 500 F3Year: 1952Chassis Number: 500/5Registration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualEngine Number: JOS/4075766/4Make: Click here for more details and images

Updated MP62, recently restored and now running a Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird power unit. After a successful career in Formula 1 with BRM, Lotus and Surtees, Mike Pilbeam launched Pilbeam Racing Designs in 1975. Based in rural Lincolnshire, the company quickly established itself as the premier manufacturer of Hill Climb single seater and sports racing cars. 17 UK Hill Climb titles in the last 21 years are ample testimony to the company's expertise in this field. But PRD is much more than just a specialist Hill Climb chassis manufacturer, F3, Formula Renault, Rally (Group A, WRC and F2), GT and Super Touring Car projects have all been undertaken, with much success, for customers including General Motors, Ford, Honda, Peugeot and Hyundai.Offered here for auction without reserve at Race Retro 2023 is this Pilbeam MP62 built in 1992 as an out and out hill climb car. This particular car is chassis #4 of around 14 MP62 constructed in total with slicks and wings and it was later upgraded to MP82 specification which added some carbon fibre parts and additional aerodynamic features. It was run competitively by Andrew Henson & his daughter in 2015/16, mainly in the MAC events, with its original Vauxhall XE and Hewland gearbox set up finished in blue and silver. The car was subsequently sold on to its current owner who has undertaken a 'nut and bolt' restoration and a full respray in bright orange. More recently, chassis #4 has been professionally converted to run a Honda CBR1100XX superbike engine (164bhp @ 9500rpm when new). The lightweight and powerful unit is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox and chain drive to a Westgate Engineering limited-slip differential. The specification also includes adjustable Koni dampers, adjustable anti-roll bars, new aero wishbones, Stack digital dash, removable steering wheel, dry sump with scavenge pump and a full stainless-steel custom exhaust system. The engine conversion and chassis development were professionally carried out by TS Historic of Newbury, Berkshire, with a total investment well into five figures. The Pilbeam is supplied with a history file, period photographs of it in competition, set up sheets and its original RAC Competition Car Logbook (which will require updating) and spares package including a full spare set of wheels, hub nut socket, Honda dash & other partsThe car has not been driven in anger since its restoration so will require some initial set-up, and renewal of its safety equipment, before it takes to the hills again.Recently restored and offered without reserve, this fast little bike-engined, hill climb car will offer relatively affordable access to many competitive Hill Climb events across the country and a really fun community of great racers.SpecificationMake: PILBEAMModel: MP62/82Year: 1992Chassis Number: MP62004Registration Number: UNREGISTEREDTransmission: ManualMake: Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Very rare in the UK, this LHD Maverick Grabber has been superbly prepared for fast road or circuit/hill climb use complete with a new, ten-year Motorsport UK Vehicle Passport. The Ford Maverick was introduced in mid-1969, exactly five years to the day after the original Mustang appeared. Basically an economy 'Sports Coupe', it was built on the Falcon chassis and used the Falcon’s 170ci straight-six engine. It was advertised at 22mpg, weighed 2,411lbs, sold for $1,995 and, in the first partial year, 127,833 found homes. The Maverick gained a four-door sibling in 1971 and a sporty “Grabber” version with a 210bhp, 302-ci V8 was introduced.Dating from 1971, this example is indeed an original Grabber and we understand it was converted into a competition car prior to our vendor’s purchase around six years ago. Apparently the car took part in a couple of events with the Classic Touring Car Racing Club but was then sold. The next owner, an engineer, fitted it with a 289ci V8 in a hot but not ‘full-race’ state of tune, plus a Ford ‘Top-loader’ gearbox, however moved to Australia without using the car. The Grabber’s following owner spent considerable sums on a new LSD, a gearbox rebuild, safety equipment, tyres, mechanical improvements, bodywork, paint and much more but he too never actually raced the car. In our vendor's care, the car has continued to be fettled but it’s been kept road-legal and has covered around 100 miles or so in the years that he’s owned it.It’s been dyno’d at 312bhp which means there’s room for further tuning of the V8 but it’s lighter than a comparable Mustang or Camaro and, with good brakes (discs all round), a high-ratio steering box, an anti-dive suspension kit and a heavy-duty rear anti-roll bar, it could be made extremely competitive even at the current output. All the panels are steel, so if you fancied further weight saving, GRP wings, doors, bonnet and boot are available in the USA.The Maverick presents very well in Ford Diamond White with the obligatory Guardsman Blue Daytona stripes and has had no track use since the re-paint and generally appears very smart. The satin-black rear panel and spoiler offer a period ‘racer’ look and the car sits on new 15'', American Racing wheels currently shod with 225/50 Toyo Proxes R888 tyres. It’s been fitted with new Wilwood brake calipers, front and rear, with new vented discs on the front, vented discs to the rear and a brake balance bar.The interior is fully stripped for competition and fitted with an OMP race seat and a TRS full harness. The cage is described as a ‘fully-welded roll-cage to FIA specification’ and features door bracing bars, two overhead hoops across the car and triangulated rear fixings to welded-on mounts in the rear quarters, plus extra cross-bracing behind the driver’s seat. The extinguisher is fixed to the floor behind the driver's seat and the activation toggle and battery cut-off are in easy reach of the driver’s right hand (it's left-hand drive). The old two-dial dash has been replaced with a more comprehensive set of instruments and the car has just been completely rewired to competition spec. The original pedals have been replaced by a proper, adjustable, floor-hinged pedal box, the steering column is braced by a rose-joint attached to a strut emerging from under the dash and the steering wheel is deep-dish with a suede covering. Fuelling is courtesy of a large race-spec rubber fuel cell, a Holley electric pump and some very sturdy braided fuel lines with anodised fittings. The engine bay is functional and purposeful, with lots of professional touches like the tiny spring used to keep the dipstick from working loose, the braided hoses to and from the oil cooler and the doubled-up throttle return springs. The 289ci V8 is topped by a large Holley four-barrel carb on a Weiand intake manifold and the sparks are controlled by an electronic ignition unit in the distributor. Three-inch downpipes meet three inch stainless pipes that head to a single silencer each side and on to those glorious side-exit exhausts offering a classic V8 'burble'.The car is supplied with a few bills dating back as far as 2012 and there are detailed invoices from a specialist in Dorset covering mechanical fettling and bodywork repairs to take care of minor rust problems, followed by a respray. There are also Dyno readouts supporting the power and torque claims (both over 300), a couple of older MOTs and instruction sheets for Comp Cams products, including their ‘High Energy & Hi Tech’ hydraulic lifters’. The V5C is in the vendor’s name and confirms that the car has been in the UK since 1989 and there are quite a few other receipts for minor mechanical and cosmetic bits - one or two much weightier ones from the Mustang Depot for the new differential. The fresh Motorsport-UK Vehicle Passport. No.45162 is valid until 21/12/2032 for Sprints/Hill-climb and Sports Libre. The Maverick was introduced in 1969 so pre-’66 Appendix 'K' events are not an option, but there are a number of championships that could be suitable, including the Classic Touring Car Racing Club’s Boss Blue Oval Saloon series, Bernie’s Sports Racing and V8s, the Classic Sports Car Club’s Swinging Sixties or Future Classics, amongst others. If you are keen to race a proper period American V8, then this well presented, professionally prepared, only one in the UK, Diamond White Grabber may well be the answer and, at this guide price, you’ll struggle to find a competitive Camaro or Mustang.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: MAVERICKYear: 1971Chassis Number: 1K93F151707Registration Number: KWE 980JTransmission: Manual Drive Side: Left-hand DriveMake: LHDClick here for more details and images

Legendary, mid-1980s ETC-winning Alfa, offering a gateway into some of Europe’s best historic motorsport.Chassis ‘LR8513’Utilising an Alfa 75-based floorpan and a fresh, unstamped factory shell, the car was built for the 1985 season using the latest Group A parts and 'know how'. It ran during 1985 in Boule D’Or/ Epson colours and the following year entered the 1986 Spa 24hrs in green Video Point livery. The car was purchased by a Mr Izarelli, still in green, subsequently being sold to a Mr Vertongen. Main Identifiers are: Chassis plate LR8513 on RHS engine bay shock turret, brake and clutch pedal box, strengthening plates on shock turrets, offset gear-lever, air-jacks, twin AP CP2561 front calipers mounted on special cast uprights, aluminium lower-wishbones and torsion-bar beam, large anti-roll bar and torsion bars, vented rear discs with AP CP2361 calipers, gearbox oil cooler, long-distance fuel tank, and centre-lock hubs with OZ rims (as used by Luigi in later seasons). This car has always been identified as the '85 Spa car No 43 Driven by: Bernard de Dryver (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Loudwig Boucher (B) due to the rear-view mirror location, single central wiper and the air-jack input position on the rear. Previous owners had no reason to doubt this and also the logical conclusion was that this was François-Xavier Boucher’s car for the whole 1985 season.‘LR8513’ Under current ownership:The car's current owner had been trying to find a GTV6 to race in Historic Touring Cars and had been in discussions with Alfa guru, Chris Snowdon. Chris had known about LR8513 for years and called Mr Vertonger (who was an Alfa racing mechanic back in the day and had a collection of Alfas - the Luigi car being the hidden gem) to broker a deal. Chris drove his empty trailer to Belgium in 2016 to pick up a very dejected looking Alfa along with a plethora of original, but still brand new, Alfa Romeo parts and panels, which were all used to painstakingly rebuild the Alfa over a two year period, thereby preserving LR8513 for the next chapters of its life. The car was built to compete in Motor Racing Legends Historic Touring Car series and run by Chris Snowdon Racing where it has enjoyed many class victories and performed with great reliability. LR8513 is a 'Group A' car and runs the wonderfully sonorous 2.5-litre V6 which is reported to produce over 250bhp and is, of course, fitted with the original, and recently refurbished, Ciccotti gearbox. Supplied with current FIA papers (GB11358), valid until 31st December 2027, this special car offers a gateway into some of Europe’s best historic motorsport and is a significant part of Alfa Romeo Touring Car history.Period Results:Results: 500 km Vallelunga 21.4.1985 Driven by: Georges Cremer (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)Result: 9th 1st in Div.2 Donington 500 Kilometres Donington 500 5.5.1985 Car No 43 Driven by: Georges Cremer (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)Result: Started, result unknown Grid:18th (1:22.620) Grand Prix Brno Mistrovství Evropy,Grand Prix Brno 9.6.1985 Car No 52 Driven by: Georges Cremer (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)Result: 12th Grid: 19th (3:54.680) 500 km Salzburgring 30.6.1985 Driven by: Georges Cremer (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Bernard de Dryver (B)Result: 11th Spa 24 Hours 24 Heures de Francorchamps - Lotto Trophy 28.7.1985 Car No 43 Driven by: Bernard de Dryver (B)/François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Loudwig Boucher (B)Result: DNF Grid: 21st (2:48.870) Tourist Trophy RAC Tourist Trophy 8.9.1985 Car No 43 Driven by: François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Bernard de Dryver (B)Result: did not finish (Transmission) Grid: 17th (1:42.770) GP Nogaro 15.9.1985 Car No 43 Driven by: François-Xavier Boucher (B)/Bernard de Dryver (B)Result: 10th ETCC Zolder E.G. A great introduction into historic rallying, an intriguing car with some interesting provenance; recently serviced and ready to enjoy.  The Talbot Sunbeam-Lotus was one of the most exciting hot-hatches to emerge from the 1970s. Chrysler commissioned Lotus to produce an effective entrant for International Group 4 rallying - to beat the dominant Ford Escort RSs at their own game- and a 1.6GLS shell found its way to Hethel. Lotus installed a 2.2-litre 'Type 911' (closely related to the Type 912 found in the S2 and S3 Esprit) version of their 16-valve four-cylinder engine and a 5-speed ZF gearbox. The new Sunbeam-Lotus certainly looked the part and was initially offered only in Black and Silver, with Marchal spotlights and tailored 'double four-spoke' cast-alloy wheels.Launched in 1979, the high-compression 2174cc twin-cam engine breathed through two twin-choke Dell'Orto carburettors, developed 150bhp (but was easily tuneable to well over 200bhp for rally use), and delivered excellent performance, offering 0-60mph in just 6.6 seconds. Lotus wasn't just an engine supplier; it was also involved in designing the suspension and exhaust system. As soon as it qualified for inclusion in international rally competition, the Sunbeam-Lotus proved extremely effective, finishing 1st, 3rd and 4th at the 1980 Lombard-RAC rally, Britain's round of the World Rally Championship. In 1981, the Sunbeam Lotus brought the entire manufacturer's championship to Talbot. For the Series 2 cars in 1981, a big 'T' was placed in the middle of the grille, the engine was mildly tweaked, the fuel tank and headlights were enlarged, and the wing mirrors were changed. Only 1,184 right-hand drive examples of the Sunbeam-Lotus were ever built, approximately half the total number, however, today you'd be lucky to find 80 of these special cars according to the Owners' Club. The car presented here is a 1981 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus (T4DCYBL425455) and, according to its accompanying Production Certificate, was one of less than 400 UK-cars in Moonstone Metallic. It came off the factory line at Linwood in May 1981, the week before production of this model ended and the factory closed. Transported to Lotus in Norfolk for completion, it was then put into storage awaiting sale. Prior to leaving for the dealer (Renwicks of Exeter) in October 1982 it underwent final preparation at Talbot’s Stoke service workshops. With registration ‘CTA 410Y’ applied, it would have cost £7,948 plus on-the-road costs in 1982.By 1987, ‘CTA 410Y’, like lots of these special cars, had been used in motorsport with some interesting provenance already. According to an article (and photoshoot) in the popular magazine ‘Cars and Car Conversions’ (October 1987) its then-owner was Mr Mike Robertson, who acquired it from Eagle Racing in early 1986. At this time, the car had been properly kitted out, with the suspension set up done by Iain Gardner, one of Scotland's top road racers of the period; it was in basically Group A tarmac rally specification, with uprated road springs and anti-roll bars at both ends, DS11 pads all round, but retaining the standard ZF 5-speed gearbox. The engine was both lightened and balanced, with Mike adding an Agra Engineering head with half-race cams (giving c.205bhp at the flywheel). Used mainly on the road by Mike, and still with a car-phone plumbed in (a fact that was said to have impressed the race scrutineers!), it was used in sprint events and even an auto-test.The car is understood to have remained in Scotland for sometime, with our vendor having been contacted by a few previous owners through the 'Sunbeam Lotus Owners Club', who recall 'CTA 410Y’ fondly. By the early 1990s, it was owned by a Mr Alistair Wilson and by c1995 the owner was a Mr Adrian Wright, who told our vendor "CTA 410Y had a good solid shell and the motor pulled strongly."  By 2002, the car was owned by a Mr Douglas Gracie and then a Mr Alan Dunlop, both based in Scotland (an old V5C confirms). As part of the car's history file there are a few old UK tax-discs for it (1996, 1998 and 2001), plus some fascinating period photographs of it from previous owners and our vendor's research (see attached). In 2021, CTA 410Y was spotted for sale in Portugal (but never registered there) by our vendor (a veteran of classic cars, both in overseeing their restoration and historic racing/rallying). The Portuguese seller/owner had two Talbot Sunbeam Lotus examples, one a Group 4 car and this one he bought from the UK with the intention of doing more rallying but couldn’t justify both. He was a keen enthusiast and rally driver and very knowledgeable about this marque. Our vendor made enquiries and liked that this car had obviously been restored, prepped for fast-road/rally-use and appeared solid throughout. The deal was done and the little Sunbeam returned to the UK in 2021.According to the advert by the Portuguese owner, it is understood to still retain both its original ZF 5-speed dog-leg gearbox and 2,174cc twin-cam engine (indeed, the rare and sought-after Dell'Orto carburettors are still in situ), and quite possibly the Agra Engineering head (given the performance of the engine, but this is not confirmed). For peace of mind, our vendor took the car to specialists Maulden Garage for a complete mechanical refresh, spending some £2,089 (invoice January 2023), including a full service and an upgraded cambelt and pulley kit (with tensioner), a Hi Torque starter motor and consumables. The car is said to perform and drive extremely well, being road-registered (with a V5C) and an ideal candidate for sprints, rallies or indeed further historic rallying. Our vendor has eyes on finishing a Datsun 240Z project, so sadly CTA 410Y must be sold. An entertaining and capable car with some interesting provenance, in an eye-catching livery, and at a very accessible guide price. SpecificationMake: TALBOTModel: SUNBEAM LOTUSYear: 1982Chassis Number: T4DCYBL425455Registration Number: CTA 410YTransmission: Manual Engine Number: T4DCYBL425455Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Rally Click here for more details and images

Rebuilt at over £40,000, this FIA Homologation-specification Anglia is the perfect entry-level historic racer with equally capable road performance. The hugely popular Anglia set a Ford of Britain production record in 1960, its maiden year of production, having built over 190,000 Anglias. Following on from this success, the Anglia became available in ‘Super’ specification in 1962, offering a higher level of equipment, the engine capacity increased to a longer-stroke 1,198cc and now fitted with the all-synchromesh, 4-speed gearbox from the Cortina. Additionally, there was more chrome, a luxury interior and a heater as standard with contrasting coloured side-stripe distinguishing the Super from its 997cc sibling. The engine was capable of being modified to produce much more power, and it became the motive power unit for various forms of motorsport including circuit racing and rallies alike. An Anglia was entered in the Monte Carlo Rally from 1960-1965 finishing consistently above its station, and today rally and racing Anglias are still an important and competitive part of the historic scene, and are homologated by the FIA at 997cc, 1198cc and 1340cc.Offered here is a fabulously prepared 1964 Ford Anglia 1200 Super, built to FIA 1175 Homologation specification but, despite having benefitted from a comprehensive re-build costing in excess of £40,000, the car has seen very little use and is ready to go.Originally used for rallying, this car has a long competitive history and has enjoyed plenty of success whilst in the hands of Patrice Wattine and others. It went on to race within the HSCC - Dunlop Thermex championships before a complete strip and rebuild began. The restoration was meticulous to say the least, and the bills verify the story and current condition. The shell was fully seam-welded with a stiffened and strengthened floor to facilitate the roll cage, with the whole car stripped to bare metal, its underside bead-blasted to remove all previous paint. Brand new, original specification Ford steel wings were purchased, new door shut panels were welded in to get the newly re-skinned doors to fit the body apertures correctly, and new rear panels were also fitted. The exterior, interior and underside were sprayed then baked. The doors with their new skins were then fitted with a brand new window kit and laminated windscreen. The car is fitted with a DAMICO 1,200cc engine built to strict FIA specification. It's currently limited to 7,500rpm for longevity and is capable of reaching more than 8,500rpm if required, but in its current state of tune produces in the region of 130bhp. It's mated to a close-ratio gearbox and racing clutch with new bearings and seals. All engine components are new and balanced, the block and head have been extensively worked on and the cam was specifically chosen to make the car easy to live with, and to provide a smooth power delivery without being too 'cammy'. To ensure long distance races such as the Spa 6-Hours are feasible, the car is fitted with a 12 gallon foam-filled fuel tank and, for track limitations, the current exhaust setup is a 105 decibel system designed and fitted by Alan Dent. The suspension was modified within FIA regulations and corner weighted by Alan Dent. New bearings, seals and flexible brake pipes were fitted and the entire braking system was replaced, along with new dampers all round and FIA compliant disc brakes to the front. The dashboard is as per the original car, with the addition of an electronic rev counter and an extra large oil warning light. An MSA/FIA compliant rain light is fitted, as is an electric fan and a fire extinguisher system. The racing seat is suitable for a HANS Device and is compliant with FIA/MSA regulations. Complete with its all-important HTP papers, this car offers the opportunity to take part in a diverse selection of race series such as FIA road rallies, historical events such as the U2TC Championships, Goodwood Revival, Spa 6-Hours and many more.Benefiting from being fully road-registered, this fantastic motor car is to be sold complete with a UK V5 logbook and a vast history file containing comprehensive details and photographs of its restoration. This versatile little Anglia is crying out not to be stuck in a garage in the Cotswolds with a doting custodian but should be back on the circuits with the HSCC, tarmac rallying, Prescott and Shelsley, or possibly even used as the most fun way to get between pubs on a Sunday afternoon. SpecificationMake: FORDModel: ANGLIA 1200 SUPERYear: 1964Chassis Number: H26D067869Registration Number: BFW 651BTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 113E 602843Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlueClick here for more details and images

Standard MkII 998cc Austin Cooper prepared in the 1980s for club rallying. From long-term ownership and no longer active but would make a great sprint/hill climb/fun road car.Making its debut in 1961, the giant-slaying Mini Cooper went on to become one of the most successful competition cars of all time, literally running rings around far bigger and more potent opponents as a result of its incredible handling. The original 997cc long-stroke engine was supplanted in 1964 with the 998cc unit offering 55bhp and the twin SUs and close-ratio gearbox made for a very successful formula. A major revamp occurred in 1967 with the introduction of the MkII with a larger rear window and a different grille amongst a raft of other changes. Some 16,000 MKII Coopers were sold before production came to an end in 1969 and survivors are increasingly prized by collectors.Built on the 3rd of July 1968, JDR 612F was originally a standard 998cc Austin Cooper MkII finished in white with a black roof. At some point in its early life, one of its owners had decided that the call of motorsport could not be ignored and JDR was prepared for its next role as a rally car.We are not sure whether it was gradually developed over a period of time or was prepared initially as an homage to the mid-1960s ‘Works’ cars but it certainly looks the part now. Traditionally finished in Tartan Red with an Old English White roof, the little car sits well on chunky 10” Minilites popping out from black extended arches and sports a heavy duty sump-guard, Cooper’S’ twin tanks with quick-fillers, a quartet of Lucas spot/fog lights, a roof-mounted hand-operated spotlight, bonnet and boot straps and much more. There are some cheeky Cooper S badges on the boot and bonnet but, sadly, it’s not a 1275.Apart from the full roll-cage, a new dashboard panel and a hand-held extinguisher, the interior is basically standard and equipped with the normal working tools of a navigators life, internal fuses, map reading light, multiple stop watches and a Halda Twinmaster. It was owned and rallied by navigator, Nigel Chetwynd, and driven by his friend, Peter Barker, during the late 80s and early 90s with much success including an outright win in the Cumbria Classic in 1990 and second in class on the Solway Rally (There will be some press cuttings from that period with the car).JDR has been owned since 2005 by a father and daughter and is on offer from their private Mini Collection. We understand that it's been well-maintained during their ownership and has been out from time to time on road rallies and regularity runs. Our vendor has fitted rear lights and a rear screen from a Mk I Cooper further enhancing its ‘factory’ look. The car has a very strong shell and drives extremely well and, as an entry-level rally car represents great value for money, although the currency of the safety equipment (cage, belts, extinguisher etc.) would have to be established.Or perhaps just use it for fun days out, regularity events or the odd club sprint. Versatile little Cooper with a really great ‘look’.    SpecificationMake: AUSTINModel: MINI MKIIYear: 1968Chassis Number: CA2SB1150782ARegistration Number: JDR 612FTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 9FDSAH35094Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 15648 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

This great baby BTCC car is eligible to run in a plethora of events, could be an excellent track day car or an interesting route into driving a BTCC Touring Car at a tenth of the build cost. This is the Ford Focus that gave Gordon Sheddon his debut win in the BTCC Production Touring Car round at Knockhill in 2001. Built and run by GR Motorsport who went on to win the BTCC Production Team Championship.  This car is chassis 2000/01, first of four built for drivers Matt Jackson, Gareth Howell and Rick Kramer. Usual driver Richard Meins, sat out the Knockhill round which obviously did Gordon Sheddon no harm at all as a future three-time BTCC Champion. It is thought chassis #01 went on to race at Macau on three occasions after research from our vendor.Over the last four years, our vendor has returned the Focus to its winning livery from 2001 including an engine rebuilt by renowned tuners Scholar Race Engines of Mendlesham. It has a Quaife gearbox, Jenvey throttle bodies and lightweight panels enhancing what was very expensive build in the day. The only running it has done is for a rolling-road set up so is ready for a shakedown. It comes with a useful spares package including a set of wheels, gearbox parts, hubs, bearings, steering arms and wing mirrors and has just had a very expensive Super B Lithium battery fitted. This great baby BTCC car is eligible to run in a plethora of events or could be an excellent track day car. Race-winning, full-house, 740bhp Evolution 10 eligible for the CMMCS 'Super Saloons' Series. The Classic and Modern Motorsport Club (Southern), Modified/Super Saloon Series is open to a wide variety of cars which range downwards from some of the fastest saloons seen in national racing although the regulations are designed to prevent anyone enjoying a runaway advantage and drivers in all the classes have an equal opportunity of success. The 2023 series will be contested over 14 races at seven race meetings, where possible on just one day.The superbly presented Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X on offer here was indeed prepared for that Championship in 2022 with evident success having collected the silverware for two wins and a number of second places. It was built by our vendor with input from some of the best Evo companies in the UK with no expense spared. The engine was the responsibility of TDI (a renowned engine builders in Essex) and, we understand, generates somewhere in the region of 740bhp.The car’s spec runs to several pages but some of the most important aspects are listed here; (all brand new unless specified otherwise)Fully forged engine from Torque developments £13k (currently runs on race fuel), Simon Norris Precision 6062 full turbo kit £9k, Julian Godfrey triple fuel kit, Syvecs ECU £6k, Alcon billet race brakes £4k, DS UNO carbon race pads £900, Nitron suspension £4k (just been set-up), Lightweight wheels, White line struts F+R with castor kit, STM large intercooler, Extra-deep baffled alloy sump, CAE quick-shifter (with new connecting cables and bushes), OEM coil packs, Carbon race seat, Lightweight throughout with T45 cage £3K, 2022 electronic fire extinguisher, 2022 electronic ignition system. The car has only taken part in two races since the engine rebuild (one race on the new turbo) and always used Millers race oil which was changed after every race. Our vendor has retained all the invoices for the work carried out and they make interesting reading.Remarkably, the Evo is road-registered with a V5C, has a full service history and the current MOT is valid until 17th July 2023. We understand that the car is fully Motorsport UK and BRSCC compliant and, whilst being built to conform with CMMCS Modified/Super Saloon Series regs, it may well be eligible to race in other championships. We appreciate that a rather focused motor car like this is unlikely to be an ‘impulse purchase’ and consequently our consignor will be happy to answer any technical questions you may have. Naturally, the car is available for close inspection at Race Retro.      SpecificationMake: MITSUBISHIModel: EVOLUTION XYear: 2009Chassis Number: CZ4A0006396Registration Number: AY09 BXVTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 4B11BS7428 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 48493 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Innovative, early 1960s Formula Junior/Monoposto car wearing the all enveloping (streamline) bodywork originally fitted to John Cooper's 1959 French Grand Prix entry. It was fashionable in Formula One in the mid 1950s to have all-enveloping streamlined bodywork for the faster circuits of the calendar. In 1954/55, the Mercedes-Benz cars ran bodywork that was genuinely streamlined and the likes of Connaught, Maserati, Vanwall and Cooper all tried full-scale bodywork, which perhaps may not have been aerodynamically streamlined, but certainly enclosed the open wheels resulting in a reduction in drag. In 1958, Rob Walker had some good results in his F2 Cooper with the streamliner body, especially at the fast Reims circuit. For the 1959 French Grand Prix at Reims, John Cooper brought along his latest streamlined bodywork for Jack Brabham’s F1 car. It had been briefly tested in the rain at a wet Silverstone test session, however at the fast French circuit, and especially along the Soissons straight, the car tended to become airborne, and it was quickly converted back to its original open-wheeled bodywork. The complexities of downforce were not fully understood in those days and it’s not surprising that an aluminium profile built to resemble an aircraft wing would naturally want to fly when it reached ‘take off’ speed. Streamlined bodywork was not used in 1960, and in 1961, Streamliners were banned altogether.John Moore, supplier of Lockheed brakes and clutches to the race car builders of the day, noticed the abandoned ‘streamliner’ bodywork sitting in the rafters at the Cooper Car Company whilst visiting the works one day and quickly acquired the body with a plan to race a car in both the 1962 Monoposto and Formula Championships. His idea was that the car could have dual bodywork, sports and single seater, to suit a variety of championshipsJohn Moore also supplied Ken Tyrrell, and his next acquisition was some prototype Formula Junior uprights, Condor wheels and 8'', iron-lined alloy brake drums. With a chassis cleverly fabricated to support both the sports car and single-seater body panels, he entered both Championships, winning the 1962 Monoposto Championship including three lap records with an average speed of an incredible 93mph around the Silverstone GP circuit. The car ran a Ford E93A side-valve engine fuelled through a Weber 45DCOE and an early Mini gearbox with chain drive to the rear wheels.John Moore sold the car to Derek Edwards who, in 1963, fitted a Formula Junior BMC engine and raced it until 1970. The car was subsequently raced by Malcom Hadley-Saw who was a member of the Essex 750 MC and his flamboyant exploits were recorded in a video called ‘’Charge of the Flight Brigade’’ at one race at Mallory Park (video incl.) In 1971, it was purchased by Bill Wheeler with ambitions to race in Formula 4 but he left for Australia before the car had turned a wheel. In 1990, David Morgan, the 750 MC archivist, bought the Warwick and partially restored it before, in 2000, it became the property of our vendor, himself an accomplished engineer, and raced by him in the 750 MC Trophy Series with some success. The last couple of outings were at the Crystal Palace Sprints in 2010 and 2011, coming second in class to Simon Taylor’s HWM Chevrolet. We understand that it will be supplied to sale with two 1,172 cc Ford side-valve engines. This incredible car has a history that puts it in the sweet spot of early 1960s innovation with Cooper at its heart and a car that would be welcome at prestigious motorsport events when there was a class for racers of that era. It’s accompanied by a fascinating history file, great provenance and some period photos.A lovely piece of motorsport history first hammered into shape in the days of Mercedes’ legendary W196 Streamliner. SpecificationMake: WARWICKModel: SPORTS/FJYear: 1961Chassis Number: TBARegistration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualMake: Click here for more details and images

Only six of these powerful, bespoke Morgan Roadsters were built, with five remaining in the UK.On its introduction in 2014, the AR V6 was the most powerful racing car that Morgan had ever sold and the ultimate race-prepared Morgan. Based on their 3.7-litre V6 Roadster, the AR V6 benefited from a range of track-focused enhancements and was the first-ever Morgan to feature 5-link rear suspension and a body with no doors, and a weight-saving heightened passenger side panel. Also aiming to reduce weight as much as possible, a lightened battery, brake system, split-billet wheels and interior were all utilised, ensuring a dry weight of 850kg. Technical enhancements included a digital dashboard display, a first for any Morgan, a 320bhp ECU with single mass flywheel and a modified timing chain tensioner resulting in a Marque-best, power to weight ratio of 376bhp per tonne.Morgan’s motorsport division, AR Motorsport, were very bullish with press releases, stating the ARV6 “has been designed with one thing in mind – competing in motorsport and winning races. While offering performance and handling that goes beyond any Morgan-produced race car that has previously been available, AR Motorsport assures prospective buyers that the AR V6 will be ''the perfect Morgan race car for experienced racers and novices alike”However, it wasn’t to be, as given its comprehensive specification, it simply wasn’t commercially viable. Only six were built and five of these remain in the UK.Over recent years, several AR V6 have competed in the Morgan Challenge Series, now in its 42nd year, a one-make series featuring at circuits around the UK. The Challenge regularly attracts significant grids with Morgans racing in many classes. The competition is fierce, however the gentlemanly spirit of the series has earned a high level of respect amongst fellow motorsport enthusiasts. This particular example was bought new by its current owner in 2016 and has been enjoyed with some success at various events over the years. Our vendor is particularly fastidious and we understand that has spent over £50,000 on further developing and upgrading the car following its delivery from Morgan, however it remains road-legal and has been supported and generally looked after by Richard Thorne, a respected specialist in competition and fast-road Morgans. As with any competition car, it’s recommended that prospective purchasers check the validity and currency of any safety-related equipment. This AR V6 is undoubtedly the coolest Morgan racer on the planet and, given that only six were built globally at over £60,000 new, it would take a brave person to say no at this very sensible guide, considering the level of investment involved in preparing the car to this level.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: ARV6Year: 2016Chassis Number: SA94437H280004116Registration Number: K400 MOGTransmission: Manual Engine Number: E4289008NB Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Professionally prepared to recreate the original ‘works’ 924 Turbo rally cars now residing in the Sinsheim museum. Complete with its FIA/HTP, Logbook and FIVA Identity Card.A fantastic and very rare opportunity to own a competition car that fits in so well in today's strong historic rally world. This beautifully constructed 1979 Porsche 924 Turbo FIA Historic Rally Car was accurately built as an homage to the original ‘works’ rally cars now residing in the Sinsheim museum. The build emphasis was on accuracy but some concessions were made to modern materials in the interest of safety and, of course, it's a race car and needs to be competitive. Finished to a very high standard and the attention to detail is impressive. The engine work was completed by an ex-Porsche ‘works’ mechanic who worked on the original cars back in 1980, and the build specification is in line with the original Porsche build with Bilstein shock absorbers front & rear, Bilstein road springs front & rear, alloy sump shield, encased period copy fuel tank in boot area, stainless steel exhaust, internal fuel lines, Brembo brake linings, uprated organic clutch, twin brake master cylinders, hydraulic “umbrella” handbrake, glass fibre bonnet, glass fibre period copy wheel arch extensions, Perspex rear side windows, Perspex tailgate window, Fuchs alloys, dog-leg ‘straight-cut’ gearbox (spare). There is an extensive spares package.Since the build was completed, the car has twice been entered into the Monte Carlo Historique rally with ex-works Porsche legend, Jürgen Barth, and his original co-driver, Roland Kussmaul, recreating their entries in the ‘works’ cars in 1979, 1980 & 1981.The car has an Historic Technical Passport valid in 'Racing & Hill Climb & Rally' to 31st December 2028, an MSA Stage Rally Logbook, a FIVA Identity Card, and a UK V5C document ready for transfer or export. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a beautifully constructed rally car eligible to compete in FIA Historic Rallies such as the Tour De Corse, Modeno Cento Ore, Monte Carlo Historic, etc.   SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 924 TURBOYear: 1979Chassis Number: 93A0140159Registration Number: ETH 597VTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 16144 KMMake: LHDClick here for more details and images

A perfect entry-level racer, built to extremely high standards without ever turning a wheel in anger and offered at No Reserve.First released in 1982, with the final car running off the production line in 1994, the BMW E30’s shape has aged undeniably well, with a seemingly universal appreciation of the design. As a race car the E30 in M3 guise has seen countless victories across the board in BTCC, DTM and rallying. With M3 prices soaring in recent years to over £50,000, with exceptional examples selling in excess of £100,000 for both race cars and their road-going counterparts, it seems more and more sensible to build a non-M3 variant into a track focussed car, to be owned, enjoyed and driven for a mere fraction of the cost of its glamorous sibling.Whilst some race cars are built on a shoestring, this 1989 320i sits on the other end of the spectrum and has been subject to a fabulous, no expense spared, ground-up build by Graves Motorsport. The cars wholesome beginnings stem from our vendor wanting something to race with his son, and for it to be ‘the best car on the grid’, and the E30 was the chosen candidate. The car was to be built to the specific regulations of the intended 2019 BMW Production Cup Championship, and logic dictated taking the car to Graves Motorsport as they have a great track record with overall wins in both this championship and others. However, upon the cars completion, COVID hit, and even though it was ready to race, circumstances had changed and it unfortunately never turned a wheel in anger on track and has simply seen a few shakedown miles on public roads.Originally a non-sunroof, 318i coupé, the car benefits from an engine upgrade to the 2-litre M20B20 with all belts and hoses changed upon installation, along with an uprated radiator. It's equipped with Gaz coil-over suspension, a Z3 short-shifter, Miltek exhaust system, poly-bushed suspension, Toyo Triple Eights all-round, welded-in cage, a Motordrive bucket seat and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher.Eligible for the Kumho BMW Championship and 750 Motor Club races amongst others, it would be great to see this E30 raced competitively or enjoyed as the perfect fast road/track day toy that you could happily drive to and from any circuit in full confidence. With the build cost in excess of £30,000, and offered at No Reserve, this fabulous looking E30 is ready and raring to go.SpecificationMake: BMWModel: E30 320I RACE CARYear: 1990Chassis Number: WBAAB22030EE55564Registration Number: H324 MEFTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 22384902Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: WhiteClick here for more details and images

Aluminium-bodied BT7 with a factory hard top, fast-road engine, 'Tulip' gearbox and an ARX registration number. The Austin Healey 3000 has become one of the best-known British classic cars of the 1950s and 1960s following spectacular success in international rallying and circuit racing. A development of the Austin Healey 100-6, itself born of the four-cylinder 100, the 3000 was launched in March 1959 and was a significant improvement on the earlier cars featuring front disc brakes, wire wheels as standard and a more powerful (124bhp) 2,912cc BMC C-Series engine, ensuring a top speed of approximately 120mph. There was also a choice of two seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) body styles. The new 3000 was an instant success on the road, on the track and on the rally stage and has enjoyed a large club following ever since.Originally delivered new to Paris in 1961, it's believed that this Big Healey’s competition background commenced soon after rolling off the production line with the vehicle being shipped to Canada later that year to participate in the Canadian Winter Rally.  Returning to the UK in the 1980s, the Healey was purchased by well known and respected Historic Rally Champion, Paul Howcroft, who commissioned Bob Brain, the renowned historic rally preparation specialist, to work his magic on the BT7. A full and extensive rebuild followed including conversion to right-hand drive format resulting in the Healey as we see it today. The extensive specification includes a superb body clad externally in aluminium panels finished in BMC Competition Racing Green with an Old English White factory hard top, a full roll-cage, a 'fast road' engine incorporating an alloy cylinder head with triple Weber carburettors, six-branch manifold, a straight-cut Tulip gearbox, alloy fuel tank, all round disc brakes, Minilite knock-on alloy wheels and a competition-style interior.Campaigned in historic rally events over the years with great success and remaining in outstanding condition throughout, the opportunity now arises for the next custodian to continue this venerable Healey's onward journey be that as a 'fast road' endurance car, an historic rally car or possibly further uprating to an FIA race car. One man's labour of love with a simply epic specification to create the fastest rear-wheeled, half-mile street-legal car in the UK.The highly anticipated, fourth generation (A80) Supra was finally unveiled at the 1993 Chicago Motor Show after 4 years in development under the guidance of chief engineer Isao Tsuzuki, who had also worked on the first Celica and both generations of MR2. Unlike anything Toyota had produced before, the A80’s proportions and flowing design owed more to the 2000GT of the Sixties than its predecessor. With a long, low bonnet line and high-rise optional rear spoiler it was aerodynamically efficient and clearly aimed at delivering a much higher top speed. Allied to a simplified engine line-up of either naturally aspirated or twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre JZ-series straight-six offering between 220bhp and 326bhp, top-spec turbo versions with Toyota’s first 6-speed gearbox now offered ‘supercar’ performance. The car presented here started life as a 1996 Toyota Supra RZ-S, factory twin-turbo with a 6-speed gearbox and was one of only 563 examples produced in the desirable factory colour of Royal Sapphire Pearl (8L5). This was not enough for our vendor…..he wanted more! And more he got…. he is a very determined man and set his sights on turning his Supra in to one of the fastest road-legal cars in Europe – and boy, was he determined. By his own admission, he got ‘carried away’, but the result is truly impressive. A project that may have cost him in excess of £200,000 but there is no disputing that he realised his ambition, the car is a testament to that and his commitment, so behold. Every component and part had to be ‘up to standard’ given the perfection criteria he set himself for this car. This Supra has 1250bhp+ and is the fastest ½ mile RWD road-legal car in the UK, running a 100-200km/h time of 3.49 seconds which is quicker than most modern hyper cars! The sort of reliable and consistent performance this car has is not achieved easily, and the engineering involved here is top-drawer and specialist.Fully stripped down to its skeleton, the car had its chassis and paintwork (factory RSP) rotisserie-prepared ready for its epic transformation – this became a full and proper race car quality preparation / build project. From here, the brief got ‘deep’ as everything deemed less that stellar was replaced – the list of new OEM parts became lengthy to say the least! The car’s bespoke build, fabrication and maintenance have been done by specialists ‘SRD Tuning’ of Haywards Heath, one of the best and most respected tuners of Supras in Europe. They know these cars like nobody else and have been ‘fettling’ with this car for years. The original 2JZGTE engine has been extensively reworked with an array of forged parts and endless hours of R&D. The top-end sports a ported and polished head, built valvetrain, Kelford cams and an incredible Precision 7675 GEN2 DBB Turbo, whilst Syvecs S7 management helps fine tune everything. The engine is mated to a Samsonas RS90 5-speed sequential gearbox with a long drop gear. The interior likewise has been reworked, with the factory Toyota seats having been thoroughly reworked, leather-trimmed and complete with Alcantara, whilst blue diamond stitch work gives the original interior a huge lift whilst retaining some original Mk4 Supra aura. The car is surprisingly road-friendly; it fires up on the key, idles and drives smoothly, whilst the Samsonas gearbox is actually a joy to use. The car runs a ‘flex fuel’ system for both pump fuel (Shell V Power) and VPC85 race fuel. This ingenious system automatically detects what’s running through the fuel system, relays it back to the ECU which automatically switches the map. A change of wheels/tyres/suspension spec and the removal of the parachute - you would pretty much have a standard looking Supra. The exterior is sufficiently subtle not to immediately alert you to the Behemoth of a performance car that lurks underneath, and it’s all the more appealing because of it.Full specification to be added to website soon or upon request beforehand.SpecificationMake: TOYOTAModel: SUPRA RZ-SYear: 1996Chassis Number: JZA800037390Registration Number: A50 PRATransmission: Manual Engine Number: TBCDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 1800 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

A well executed Porsche 968 with Fast Road and Track Day credentials finished in the instantly recognisable Rothmans livery. Widely regarded as one of the finest handling front-engined, rear-wheel-drive cars ever made, the Porsche 968 was the ultimate development of the long-lived 924/944 transaxle range. For the real hardcore driving enthusiast, it was also offered in stripped out Club Sport specification, with no air conditioning, sunroof, electric windows, airbags, rear seats, and no sound-proofing either. Revised track-focused suspension, Recaro seats, 17” alloys, and a close-ratio 6-speed gearbox were standard, along with a lusty 3.0-litre, 16v, 240bhp, four-pot engine with VarioCam timing. Only 1,617 were made, however, in 1994 for the UK market only, a further 306 slightly different versions were produced and these were simply entitled Sport. The Sport was produced on the same production line as the Club Sport and has very similar chassis and suspension. The key difference between the CS and the Sport is that the Sport has a bigger wiring loom and battery to cope with the extra electrics that have been put in, electric windows, tailgate release, central locking, etc. It also has the occasional rear seats, unlike the CS, and it has the comfort front seats. This particular 968 Sport left the production line in 1995, leading a fairly gentle life until 2004, when it was prepared for a more exciting existence with a more recognisable livery and an enhanced specification.  Alongside the original 3.0 powerplant and 6-speed manual gearbox, its CV now includes a Wiechers Torsion Bar, lowered suspension all round, competition steering rack, Porsche 993 Turbo front brakes, Porsche 968 17’’ Cup Alloy Wheels with Nankang semi-slick road legal tyres and Koni Adjustable suspension which is poly-bushed throughout. Now professionally repainted in Grand Prix White with Porsche Rothmans Graphics, the 968 stands out from the crowd, is on the button and ready to be used once again as intended; so much so, that our vendor informs us that it is "extremely quick and handles like a dream but is so forgiving on the road and track that it is suitable for a complete novice or a more time-served, skilled driver". It's complete with a comprehensive history file including an original Owners Manual, current V5C registration document and freshly issued MOT Certificate giving the potential for an enjoyable ride to the circuit before the more frantic on-track action begins.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 968 SPORTYear: 1995Chassis Number: WPOZZZ96ZSS815310Registration Number: M268 SKXTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Competitive in the right hands, this beautifully prepared B8 has current FIA/HTP papers and is potentially eligible for a host of exclusive events including Masters, Peter Auto and the Guards Trophy. The hugely-successful Chevron B8 first appeared in 1968, usually with BMW 2-litre engines but also with the Ford FVA, FVC and occasionally the Lotus-Climax. It was homologated into FIA Group 4 Sports Cars from 1 March 1968 on the basis that 50 were built (reduced to 25 in 1969). To help Chevron Cars achieve the required number (on paper), every rebuild was listed as a new car - a habit that would continue into the B16, B19 and even the B21 and, no doubt, was a practice common to other builders of limited production racing cars. In the end, 44 of the original cars were completed. Often described as one of the greatest racing cars of all time, the B8 was fast, forgiving and delightful. In common with the Lotus Elan and the BMW E30 M3, it was one of those cars that would not punish you for a temporary 'loss of talent' and would quietly sort itself out whilst you were considering 'Plan B'. Then, as now, it was capable of humiliating the top GTs in period at short circuits like Crystal Palace or Brands Indy where dicing with GT40s was a regular occurrence.Offered here for auction at the 2023 Race Retro International Historic Motor Show is DBE-45, believed to be the only B8 to escape a racing life and was reportedly sold for road use which is supported by a "Pink Slip" and letter of authenticity. The B8 proved too difficult for even occasional road use and was soon parked up, unused and fell into disrepair before being shipped to Switzerland where it was restored and used for hill climbing. Around 2003, the old race car was brought back to the UK and professionally returned to full racing specification. Our vendor has owned the B8 since 2012 and carried out a meticulous ground-up rebuild beginning in 2015 with new brake master cylinders, callipers, rotors, new ProLite 350, Aeroquip hoses & fittings, new purpose-moulded shatterproof acrylic windows and professionally re-wired. Also fitted was a new FIA approved fuel bag, all new NMB rod ends, track ends, spherical bearings, wheel bearings and new Koni (correct period) shocks. To finish the project off, the Chevron was professionally painted in a high-gloss red gel coat. The B8 has had seven hours running since and comes with a zero-hours M10 BWM engine completely rebuilt to full race specification with new rods, crank, valves and guides mated to a zero-miles Mark Baily FT 200 gearbox.Described as absolutely race ready, on-the-button and highly competitive in the right hands, this historic racer should be eligible for many prestigious events including Masters, Peter Auto, Guards Trophy and many more, and could be raced most weekends of the season somewhere. Offered with new type 2016 HTP, an additional long-range fuel tank, Lifeline Zero 360 electric fire-system, ignition system, nose and other miscellaneous running spares.SpecificationMake: CHEVRONModel: B8Year: 1968Chassis Number: DBE-45Registration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualMake: Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

A fully restored and well-sorted example of the four-cylinder 914.By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupé to replace the Karmann Ghia. At the time, the majority of Volkswagen's developmental work was handled by Porsche, and VW needed to contract out one last project to Porsche to fulfil their end of the deal. They decided to make this new car that final project, so Ferdinand Piech, who was in charge of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of the 914. It was originally intended to sell the vehicle with a flat-four cylinder engine as a Volkswagen and with a flat-six engine as a Porsche, however, Porsche decided during development that having both companies sharing the same body would be risky for business in the American market, and convinced Volkswagen to allow them to sell both versions as Porsches in North America. On 1st March 1968, the first 914 prototype was presented, however development became complicated after the death of Volkswagen's chairman, Heinz Nordhoff, on 12th April 1968. His successor, Kurt Lotz, was not connected with the Porsche dynasty and the verbal agreement between Volkswagen and Porsche fell apart. However, in the end it didn't really matter and, over the seven years of the model's life, the 914 would outsell the 911 and eventually find over 118,000 homes. In its earliest form, the 914 was powered by a fuel-injected 1.7-litre flat-four engine, based on the Volkswagen air-cooled engine, developing a modest 80bhp and to counter this the engine was mid rather than rear-mounted, ensuring the little 914 was blessed with excellent handling, aided by all-round independent suspension. The Targa roof clipped neatly out of the way to the underside of the boot-lid when you wanted fresh air and set a fashion that cars such as the Fiat X1/9 would follow well into the 1980s.CCA 823M was imported from the States initially in 2015 and purchased by our vendor as a lockdown project in February 2021. The intention was to fully strip the car and rebuild it from top to bottom. Our knowledgeable vendor was aware of which marque/model specialists he wanted to use and the work was assigned accordingly. Dan Wearing in Stourport was tasked with the project and duly stripped the 914 back to bare metal exposing the poor floors, so the car was put on a jig and the relevant panels were procured from Holland. Any defective metal work was duly cut out with fresh metal inserted, fully etch-primed and treated to a fresh coat of solid Black, as it was when it left the factory. A total of £12,000 was spent alone on the bodywork and fresh paint.A further £3,500 was lavished on the interior by Stitch Perfect of Droitwich, including seat covers, door cards, carpets and a dash-top and VW Heritage rebuilt the power plant and stripped the gearbox back making sure all was good. A brand new wiring harness was fitted, the suspension was fully rebuilt and re-bushed, as can be seen in our images, and the calipers were rebuilt by Big Red of Worcester. Excluding the initial cost of the car, a total of around £22,000 has been invested to bring this pretty little 914 up to the standard you see today.914s are now the last of the affordable air-cooled Porsches and combine period charm, uncomplicated engineering and versatile fun motoring. On offer at No Reserve, this ready to enjoy, turn-key German classic is sure to generate some good interest.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 914/4 1.7Year: 1973Chassis Number: 4732926537Registration Number: CCA 823MTransmission: ManualEngine Number: EA0094108Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 89678 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

A superb opportunity to take ownership of a true WRC homologation special. The Evo 1 seems destined to become the most sought-after of all and this example is offered at No Reserve. From the mid-1960s until the early 1990s, Lancia was a major force on the international rallying stage, winning the ‘World Rally Championship for Makes’ no fewer than 11 times between 1972 and 1992. This included a remarkable six successive victories commencing in 1987. During the same period, Lancia drivers won the European Rally Championship on 14 occasions and the World Drivers' Championship (only instigated in 1978) 4 times. Badged as the Delta HF 4WD on its introduction in 1986, the model retained the Volumex supercharger initially before switching to a straightforward turbo when transformed into the Integrale in 1987. The latter would prove a supremely capable rally car, winning the World Championship in both 1987 and 1988, yet in road trim remained a thoroughly practical family hatchback.Homologated to maintain the works rally team's competitive edge, the first Evoluzione models were manufactured towards the end of 1991, incorporating wider front and rear track, appropriately altered bodywork, an engine re-mapped to produce more power and a number of other detail improvements.Offered here at the 2023 Race Retro International Historic Motorsport show is a 1992 Lancia Delta HF Integrale ‘Evolusione’ or Evo 1 as they are commonly referred to, finished in sparkling Rosso Monza and fitted with optional black perforated leather sports seats. The Evo appears to have been first-registered in the UK back in 1996 and in 2004, when values were low, was subject to 'Category D' (damaged repairable) insurance claim. Today the Integrale presents nicely, the Rosso Monza paintwork retains a deep gloss and the interior also presents well retaining period features including the leather covered MOMO Corse steering wheel. The ‘Monte Carlo’ 5-stud alloy wheels have recently been refurbished and finish off the car nicely and we are informed that, when out on the streets, this box-arched rally legend still attracts all the right attention. It's accompanied by its history file which includes old V5C registration paperwork, a wealth of old invoices and MOTs from over the years, a jack, copies of original sales literature. The car will be presented to auction with a pre-MOT inspection report indicating potential works required.Low mileage, perfect examples are now starting to disappear into classic car collections and becoming increasingly difficult to source, and consequently the market for Integrales of all types continues to firm. This is a super opportunity to take ownership of a genuine Evo 1 that had some recorded damage in the past. However, could be used and enjoyed at a far more attractive price point. Offered without reserve, we welcome any pre-sale inspections of this cracking little Lancia. SpecificationMake: LANCIAModel: DELTA INTEGRALE EVO 1Year: 1992Chassis Number: ZLA831AB000562963Registration Number: J332 WRDTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 154440 KMMake: Only LHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Melling's prototype and demonstrator, this is one of only two in the UK and seven in the World, this striking, V8-engined Roadster was the creation of legendary engine designer, Al Melling. Offered at No Reserve.Rochdale-based Al Melling is perhaps best known as a prodigious designer of powerful engines and over the years has worked on design projects with Norton Motorcycles, Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Leyton House F1 (Ilmor) and Benetton. He also worked closely with TVR and Melling Consultancy Design (MCD) were responsible for the design of the AJP8 and AJP6 which TVR developed into the TVR Speed Six engine– a high-torque, 24-valve canted straight six – which was cheaper to produce and more refined for road cars. Although TVR carried out further extensive in-house development of the engines, these landmark power plants proved that MCD could finally produce an engine. However, Mr Melling’s ambitions did not stop there as, having been involved at the sharp end with TVR, he felt that he could design a better road car and the Melling on offer today was his vision of what the next TVR Griffith should have been.To be known as the Melling Wildcat, this prototype example was built in Rochdale in 2008, and with EU funding secured soon after, full production commenced. However, a skills shortage in Rochdale followed by an expensive move to the Autodromo do Algarve coincided with the start of a major recession and, sadly, with the premature passing of Mrs Melling. So with only seven cars finished, that was the end of that. The car on offer today is listed as Chassis #701 and, we understand, was the prototype for forthcoming UK-spec production cars and used as a demonstrator. It was purchased by our vendor with around 2,000 miles on the clock and he was captivated, as most people are, by the car’s stunning looks. However, it was a prototype and although it performed as he had hoped, it remained a little unresolved in the handling department. There was no option but to deal with this and our determined vendor quietly worked his way through all the issues with the help of one or two knowledgeable racing engineers. Modifications included a strengthened chassis, redesigned suspension geometry, new shock absorbers, redesigned steering geometry and the addition of power-assisted steering.Further improvements during our vendor’s four years of ownership include a full professional respray in stunning Mazda “Soul Red Crystal”, new billet aluminium wheels made by Image Wheels of Tipton, Aluminium flat floor underside riveted, a custom stainless exhaust system by MJA performance, a new heavy-duty McLeod racing clutch, a new grille fabricated and drivers lights added to give that classic 60s GT look, custom one-off leather Corbeau bucket seats with a Wildcat logo and the whole interior and boot were retrimmed by an ex-Morgan trimmer/upholsterer.It's powered by a Chevrolet LS 5.7-litre V8, offering around 450bhp and 407lb.ft, mated to a new Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a 9" American axle and factory performance figures suggest 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to 180mph. The car is accompanied by its history file containing a number of invoices, the V5C showing ownership as the Melling Car Company, a Melling relative and our vendor, plus some additional paperwork relating to the car's initial registration.SpecificationMake: MELLINGModel: WILDCATYear: 2008Chassis Number: MWR46708P07100701Registration Number: V10 MRMTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black/RedClick here for more details and images

An early, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 10-valve car from 27-years long-term ownership and largely original.Audi's Quattro is a legend that re-wrote the form book in international Rallying, as well as causing rival manufacturers to rethink their offerings and was, quite literally, a trailblazer. The story began with Audi chassis engineer Jorg Bensinger, who spent a Finnish winter testing the Volkswagen Iltis - a 4-wheel drive West German military and forest service vehicle - and found it could outperform all other machines on snow, whatever their type or power output. He put the idea of a 4-wheel drive version of the Audi 80 Coupe to the company's hierarchy and, well, you know the rest. The resulting model was launched to great excitement at the 1980 Geneva Salon and then released to European customers later the same year, powered initially by the WR, 2,144cc in-line, five-cylinder, 10-valve SOHC unit with turbocharger and intercooler. The Quattro available here is finished in Alpine White with Brazil cloth trim and is on offer from long-term, 27-year ownership, spending most of that time either being cherished or in storage. With 1984 being the first year that right-hand drive cars were available in the UK, this particular example is naturally fitted with the early 2.1-litre, five-cylinder, 10-valve power unit and was optioned from new with ABS, heated front seats, electrically operated mirrors and windows, headlamp wash and the period-correct sunroof. The superb paintwork is believed to be largely original with only minor cosmetic refreshment and, internally, the drivers seat required minor attention and has been professionally retrimmed to bring it into line with the remainder of the interior. The engine has been thoroughly checked over with the head removed for pressure testing and seal replacement as required. Prior to being offered for sale, the Audi has recently been fully recommissioned after a period in dry storage including a full suspension and brake overhaul and a thorough check of all the electrical components which are all reported to be in good working order including the all important digital dashboard.  It's accompanied by a photographic record of the recent refresh. These cars had a genuinely transformative influence on the dynamic parameters of modern road cars and this is an opportunity to take ownership of a largely original Audi Quattro, highly innovative in-period and increasingly desirable today.SpecificationMake: AUDIModel: QUATTRO 10VYear: 1984Chassis Number: WAUZZZ85ZEA901011Registration Number: B164 TFDTransmission: ManualEngine Number: WR005234Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 88057 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Brown FabricClick here for more details and images

With just two owners and less than 300 delivery miles from new, this sparkling white MG B appears almost showroom fresh.Following its replacement of the MG A in 1962, the MG B was steadily updated during its 18-year reign, however, the biggest visual change in the car's history occurred in 1974 when North American regulations forced a raised ride height and polyurethane-covered bumpers onto the pretty profile of the MG B, a redesign that was to split opinion, to say the least, amongst those who admired the earlier car's style and balance. With hindsight, and given the inflexibility of the US requirements, the federalised MG B was actually a reasonably successful styling job compared with its Italian rivals, such as the Fiat Spider and X1/9.This remarkable example dates from the last year of production and has covered just 293 miles from new. Finished in Leyland White and trimmed in the Orange and Brown 'deckchair' fabric offered by the factory during the last few months before production ceased, it was presumably purchased in the hope of a long-term investment as its first owner never attempted to register the car for use, although he had arranged for it to be fully Ziebart rustproofed from new. He eventually parted with it in 2006 when it was purchased by our vendor. At that point, the engine was totally cleaned and the Ziebart residue removed. The car was fully recommissioned with fresh fluids (including the brakes) and a new hood was fitted as the original one had shrunk slightly. The MG was given a brief road test, in consideration of the tiny mileage, and joined our vendor's super collection of British Classics. It's accompanied by the normal manuals etc. but there is no real history as it hasn't been anywhere. As with all the other cars from our vendor, the 'B' will be presented to our sale as you would hope.A very rare find in this state of preservation, this 42-year old time-warp MG B is rather special, a little piece of Late Summer 1980. It's almost as though it had been collected from the dealers, driven home and placed, as you would a Dinky Toy, in your metaphorical cupboard where it would remain, in toy terms "Mint and Boxed" for 40 years. Well it's not a Dinky Toy, it's real and it's here and after it's registered, you can drive around town in what is, effectively, a brand new MG B. SpecificationMake: MGModel: MGB ROADSTERYear: 1980Chassis Number: TBARegistration Number: TBATransmission: Manual /ODDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 293 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Deck Chair Brown/OrangeClick here for more details and images

Just 39,000 miles, from long-term ownership, carefully restored and well-maintained, a really lovely example.A genuine 'Factory' MG B GT V8, finished in Damask Red, with a warranted 38,978 recorded miles (at the time of cataloguing), purchased by the late Alistair Naylor of Naylor Brothers fame in 1977, with a then-mileage of just 4,872. It was used sparingly by him until 1983 at which point some remedial work was required and the decision was taken to strip the MG and reassemble it with all new body panels. Acquired by the present custodian in 2007, the decision was taken to once again strip the car and refinish to his own exacting standards including a full engine, gearbox, overdrive and final drive rebuild, all correctly and superbly detailed setting this V8 apart from the average. A superb, 'chrome bumper' factory V8 in a Heritage shell with some performance upgrades. An exceptional example. This chrome-bumper factory MG B GT V8 finished in Glacier White was purchased by its present owner in 2007 from renowned classic car dealers, Murray Scott Nelson. It was accompanied by an impressive history file and was mechanically good but in need of some serious attention to the bodywork. The decision was taken to commence a full restoration and consequently a new Heritage Shell was purchased and subtlety modified with ‘RV8’ inner wings to allow the fitment of free flow manifolds, a visually impressive addition looking factory- correct. To complement the new shell, the engine was fully rebuilt and correctly detailed with new cylinder heads and a 4.6 cam, as was the gearbox, overdrive and final drive. With fully refurbished wheels and new tyres, this particular GT V8 is now a very impressive machine, accompanied by the glorious soundtrack emanating from the free-flow exhaust. Gorgeous, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, BN1, superbly restored and, amazingly, a detailed history from new. This outstanding Healey 100/4 BN1 was purchased in 1954 by Norman Harris of Belham Garage, Halifax, finished in Reno Red with a black interior piped in Red and at 600 miles he fitted the dealer supplied, ‘Le Mans’ kit to improve performance. He kept detailed records, which accompany the Healey, up until he sold the car in 1983 at which point it passed into the hands of Mr Tony Howe, an MG salesman at Appleyards in Huddersfield, who continued the care and attention provided by the previous owner and also kept detailed records of all service and repair work as and when required.  Acquired by the present custodian in 2008, the 100/4 required some remedial work to meet his fastidious standards and so a full rebuild commenced, starting with a new chassis and body panels all supplied by Steve Jowett at ‘UK Healey’. No stone was left unturned with all mechanical components receiving the same consideration as the remainder of the vehicle, with the engine, gearbox and final drive all being rebuilt alongside all ancillaries and associated fixtures and fittings. The finish and attention to detail is outstanding, with a recent 170-mile shakedown run completed without fault.  An exemplary Healey 100/4 to ‘M’ Spec, with a detailed and known history from day one, is a rare thing indeed and worthy of your serious consideration.SpecificationMake: AUSTIN-HEALEYModel: 100/4 BN1Year: 1954Chassis Number: BN1221984Registration Number: FCP 331Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 21264 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Rare and desirable R V8 with less than 23,000 miles from long-term ownership. The MG RV8 was a hugely important step in the 1990s rebirth of MG Cars after more than a decade of only producing saloons and hatchbacks. Since Abingdon's closure in 1980, the illustrious MG badge had been reserved for the Metro, Maestro and Montego and, although these cars were worthy, what enthusiasts really wanted was a new MG roadster. In 1992, 12 years after the last MG sports car had rolled off the Abingdon production lines, Austin-Rover made the inspired decision to revive this most charismatic of British marques by introducing an entirely new model - the MG RV8.In creating the RV8, Rover very cleverly used a combination of off-the-shelf parts, such as the Range Rover's V8 engine and British Motor Heritage's MGB bodyshell. So, in this reincarnation of the MGB, the rubber bumper specification body was utilised and modified to accept a new set of beautifully curvaceous outer panels. The 3.9-litre Range Rover EFi V8 engine developed 188bhp and gave the RV8 enough power to crack 0-60 mph in just under six seconds which, even today, is pretty impressive. A 5-speed LT77 gearbox, derived from the Rover SD1 was used along with a new Salisbury axle. Very significant modifications were made to the suspension and brakes to bring the car up to date and the interior featured soft leather in Stone Beige and a Burr Elm facia and door cappings. The RV8 was shown at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show creating a huge demand which resulted in nearly 1,600 examples (of the 1,983 total) being exported to Japan. Despite (or maybe because of) the RV8 being based on a 30-year old model, its classic status was assured from the day it was unveiled, and with less than 2,000 examples built between 1992 and 1995, the cars are now much sought after. No RV8s were ever sold in the US and consequently they are all right-hand drive. We believe that 1,583 RV8s went to Japan initially, but such has been the growing demand in recent years in the UK, that many have been sourced in Japan and returned to the these shores to join the 307 originally sold here. This delightful example did indeed travel to Japan but was not purchased second-hand over there as it was never sold in the first place. It was a very late production car fitted with air-conditioning (non-standard in the UK) but perhaps it arrived in Japan after demand had dwindled and was never registered, subsequently, returning home some months later prior to being bought by a doctor for his wife and registered in late 1999. It was purchased by its present owner, our vendor, in 2008 with excellent Woodcote Green paintwork but under the bonnet a number of the plated items had deteriorated necessitating a full strip and cosmetic reconditioning and replating. At the same time, the underbody was also repainted to achieve a perfect appearance and, whilst stripped, all brake pipes, calipers etc. were reconditioned, the car was 'poly-bushed', and a set of adjustable Spax Shocks were fitted as were four new tyres. Some corrosion to the screen frame was attended to with a new frame and screen supplied by Clive Wheatley. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer was indicating 22,858 miles. This superb RV8 has formed part of a private collection in recent years and, unlike many 'museum' exhibits, our fastidious vendor enjoys keeping his collection in absolutely top form. We encourage interested parties to take the opportunity to come and view this impressively presented MG.  SpecificationMake: MGModel: MG R V8Year: 1999Chassis Number: SARRAWBMBM002230Registration Number: T301 VNUTransmission: ManualEngine Number: TBADrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 22858 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Stone BeigeClick here for more details and images

One of the rarest Cooper ‘S’ derivatives, fully rebuilt and outstanding throughout. The Mini Cooper soon established its credentials as a rally and race winner, and the stage was set for even faster versions. The more powerful Mini Cooper 1071 'S' appeared in 1963 and quickly became the basis for competition-focused models. Larger disc brakes, more luxurious upholstery and discrete 'S' badges on the bonnet and boot were subtle upgrades with the real changes made to the adaptable A-series engine. With competition in mind, particularly the British Saloon Car Championship, in 1964 Cooper produced two 'S' models, the 970 and 1275 aimed clearly at the under-1,000cc and under-1,300cc BSCC classes respectively. The road-going 970 'S' was a real 'Homologation Special' with its 'revvy' little short-stroke engine producing over 65bhp but it was expensive to manufacture, so BMC made it a 'special-order' model, and consequently, very few were sold (with even fewer remaining today). The 970 'S' was only produced from June 1964 until April 1965 and with just 963 examples supplied, of which 397 were badged Morris, it's one of the rarest and most sought-after Mini models. This rather smart 970 'S' is superbly finished in Tweed Grey with an Old English White roof and was the subject of a comprehensive restoration some years ago with new floor and panels as required. It's fitted with a straight-cut gearbox and the engine was fully rebuilt in 2021 by its present owner to standard 970 'S’ spec with new cam, cam followers, flywheel and clutch. The carburettors were rebuilt, a new electronic distributor from Swiftune was fitted and the dry suspension was fully rebuilt utilising new subframes. The impressive interior is correctly finished in Porcelain Green/Dove Grey and boasts reclining seats-an expensive option at the time. Another option was an additional fuel tank and filler on the right-hand side. Standard wheels were vented, 9-slot, 10”x 4.5” painted Old English White, with central chromed-steel hubcaps and had a more negative offset than the standard Mini and Cooper. Front and rear chrome bumpers were fitted with over-riders and corner 'nerf' bars. The odometer currently reads 53,490 miles, which is largely academic considering the cars extensive refresh, and our particularly fastidious vendor will ensure that this little 'S' will be absolutely on the button for the sale at Race Retro.    SpecificationMake: MORRISModel: MINI COOPER 970 'S'Year: 1965Chassis Number: KA254550737Registration Number: HKH 57CTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 53490 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey / GreenClick here for more details and images

This beautifully-presented example is offered from an exceptional Ferrari Collection with just 29,000km and Ferrari Classiche Certification. The Testarossa was first seen at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. Its name derived from the legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 GT, and the car went on to achieve many awards including "Design of the Year" and the "Car Design Award". This acclaim recognised not only the brilliant aesthetics of the car but its technical accomplishments as well. It's difficult to surpass excellence, particularly when compared with such an illustrious predecessor as the original Testarossa - a car which had already attained a particularly high level of performance, maximum speed, acceleration, and road handling. So how was it going to be possible to proceed one step further? In 1991, the answer came in the form of Ferrari's new 512 TR. The TR represented a significant step up in Ferrari performance and, with 41 more horsepower than its predecessor, the new 428bhp engine shaved a whole second off the already impressive 5.7 seconds 0-60mph acceleration. The chassis was extensively reconstructed, as was the 5-speed manual transmission and brakes, and the bodywork received a minor facelift, giving the TR a more aggressive stance whilst still retaining that distinctive Testarossa style. This lovely left-hand drive 512 TR dates from 1992 and is classically finished in Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior. It was originally supplied new to Japan and subsequently shipped to Dubai some time later before being purchased by its current owner, our vendor, in 2015 and imported to the UK. It presents really well and is described as being "in very good condition with good paint and interior and driving well". Perhaps, most importantly, the TR is in possession of its 'Ferrari Classiche', Certificate of Authenticity along with the famous 'Red Book' offering peace of mind to the car's next owner.  SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 512 TRYear: 1992Chassis Number: ZFFLA40B000093224Registration Number: J180 OFXTransmission: ManualEngine Number: F113D04030680 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveMake: LHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Well known, competitive race car that has now become a flexible and refined, road-going Grand Tourer. This lovely Aston Martin DB4 was repatriated to the UK in 1965 having belonged to an eminent doctor who had led a pilot Malaria eradication project in Kuala Lumpur and subsequently allocated the registration it wears today. It was completely restored in the seventies and remained in road trim before being converted into a 'Lightweight' DB4 and embarking on a illustrious racing campaign. Famous in AMOC racing circles, it has been raced by Andy Jenkinson and the late Peter Wheeler of TVR fame who spent much of his considerable resources constantly improving the race car. It was purchased by renowned racer Sean Brown in 2008 and raced with great success by him until around 2013.With such a continuous proven race winning history it is officially recognised as a Aston Martin DB4 'Lightweight' and is included in the Lightweight register. In 2018, our vendor decided to return the Aston to a usable, legal fast road specification so that it could be enjoyed for road trips and touring. Renowned historic race car preparers, John Danby Racing, were entrusted to complete the works and the history file contains invoices totalling over seventy thousand pounds. Every aspect of returning an 'out and out' racer to a civilised David Brown Grand Tourer was considered including a complete rebuild of the 4.5-litre engine, the fitment of a new five-speed gearbox, a full retrim, and all the knobs, switches and handles etc. that come out in minutes when you are stripping a car during race prep but take an age to reinstate when returning it to a usable 'fast-road' spec. Every step of the process was recorded including, rebuilds, road tests, rolling road set-ups and all the components used to a level you only get with a professional race car establishment. More recently, in December 2021 power-assisted steering was fitted, a welcome addition. The result is a stunning road going, flexible and refined DB4 that can used as a classic tourer with a compliant exhaust system, fully adjustable suspension, uprated brakes and a comfortably trimmed interior. It's accompanied by a copy of the original factory build sheet and lots of history and photographs from its racing career and is now ideal for regularity runs, European Tours and any number of AMOC events including sprints, hill climbs or circuit days.SpecificationMake: ASTON MARTINModel: DB4Year: 1960Chassis Number: DB4/362/RRegistration Number: GJJ 940CTransmission: Manual Engine Number: 400\3880\SMake: Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

An enthusiast-owned, fastidiously maintained example of the Lotus-V8 powered Esprit, presenting very well in a wonderful colour combination.Released as the successor to the hugely popular Lotus Elan, the Esprit was unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show in 1975, and didn’t cease production until 2003, with 10,500 units produced and rightfully gaining a loyal following along the way. While the last-of-the-line examples look undeniably progressed compared to the original S1, the Giorgetto Giugiaro-based design clearly flows through all four Series of Esprits. The vast majority of Esprit were fitted with four-cylinder engines, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged, in 2.0 or 2.2-litre capacities but, from 1996, the in-house, Lotus-built twin-turbo V8 was finally ready to be ordered by those brave enough. This remarkable Type 918 V8 was an all-aluminium, 90° DOHC, 4-valves per cylinder engine with two Garrett turbochargers, built to produce around 500bhp but detuned to 350bhp in the interest of durability and reliability. Standing at just 1.12 metres (44.1in) high, the Esprit's low-slung, rakish aesthetic emanates the suggestion of speed even when stationary and, with 0-60 being dispatched in a fraction over four seconds on the way to a top speed of 175mph, the V8 GT's performance perfectly matches its looks. On offer from long-term, 13-year ownership, this lovely 1996 Nightfall Blue over Magnolia Leather Esprit V8 is now for sale as a result of the sad passing of our vendor. The car was his undeniable pride and joy, and experienced a cherished life being treated to fastidious and frequent maintenance regardless of whether it was used or not. Having been a Lotus enthusiast for many years, and looking for the right car for a while, our late vendor found this lovely GT in 2009 and enjoyed it on summer and weekend drives ever since. The very rare Nightfall Blue paintwork presents really well, as do the original OZ wheels, and the interior is excellent with only the driver's bolster showing some wear as might be expected in a car of this age. Series 3 ✓ V-Spec ✓ Midnight Purple ✓ Service history ✓ Originality ✓GT-R examples don't come much better; one of the best available.Perhaps underrated, but quietly influential compared to its forbears, the R33 incarnation of the GT-R still offers a pure sports car experience, but now aided by some of the most revolutionary handling technology to influence modern performance driving. The new R33 Skyline GT-R was launched in January 1995 with a base GT-R and the V-Spec model which offered a sportier suspension set-up, resulting in lower ground clearance, and also featured the newer ATTESA-ETS PRO all-wheel drive system which included an Active Limited-Slip Differential. The engine in the R33 was nearly identical to the previous R32 using the same turbochargers and the same specification for the manual gearbox, although the synchros were made to be stronger. At the heart of the V-spec was the ATTESA-ETS PRO Electronic Torque Split System which, at the time, made it arguably the most technologically advanced production car in the world. The system was conceived in the 1990s for the JTCC to enable some 600bhp to be fed through the wheels and on to the racetrack efficiently. ATTESA-ETS PRO satisfied the purists by offering all the advantages of rear-wheel drive until the conditions dictated otherwise. The V-Spec also featured an active LSD on the rear axle which further aided traction by calculating the optimum torque-split between the left and right rear wheels, variable from fully-locked to totally free. Working along with ATTESA-ETS PRO, is the SUPER HICAS rear-wheel steering. This uses a series of sensors to monitor vehicle motion, rate of turn and the driver's action on the steering wheel. Complex software then compares this information to the computer predictions of the car's ideal turning characteristics, adjusting the angle of the rear wheels to reflect the driver's intentions. The result of this type of technology? Neutral steering and unrivalled cornering capabilities. The increased body rigidity and improved handling potential necessitated several specially designed cross-members being incorporated into the monocoque, and extra torsion bars were added to the multi-link suspension to further enhance stability. Working closely with Bridgestone technicians to perfect the Potenza tyres, Nissan put the prototype R33 GT-R through its paces in all weathers at the notorious Nürburgring, earning them a daring reputation amongst other manufacturers. Tested in the wind tunnel and capable of around 175mph, the Skyline GT-R's adjustable rear spoiler lets you find the best compromise between wind resistance and grip. To equalise front/rear weight distribution, the bonnet and front wings were made of aluminium instead of steel and the battery was fitted at the base of the car's boot, lowering the centre of gravity and further improving handling.Inside the Skyline GT-R, form followed function. Mono-form bucket seats with integrated headrests, that are lightweight yet immensely tough, provided the ideal driving position and supported the body against the G-forces endured under hard acceleration and cornering. The braking system was designed by Italy's famous Brembo Spa, suppliers to many of the world's Formula 1 teams at this time. Four-piston calipers were fitted on the front with two-piston calipers on the rear to bite into the discs with a diamond shaped ventilation bores which increased the surface area to aid heat dissipation. The GT-R's braking system utilises the same wheel rotation sensors used to control the ATTESA-ETS PRO, to activate the high-performance ABS, ensuring that the huge Brembo calipers always deliver optimum performance. The car presented here is a 1998 Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec (being a sought-after and improved 'Series 3' example, the informal nomenclature that refers to 1997 and 1998 R33 GT-R models, i.e. the last 2 years of production, hence chassis #BCNR33-04082020) in arguably the model’s 'signature colour' of Midnight Purple. The car was first registered by Nissan Fukushima in November 1998 and resided in the Osaka prefecture under the first owner (and Nissan Fukushima's care) for the first decade of its life. In around 2009, it was sold to a gentleman who lived in the Saga prefecture, where it was serviced at Nissan Fukuoka until 2017. The car then came to the UK in January 2019, sourced by marque specialists Torque GT, for our discerning vendor. The car was a Grade 4 import (having covered just 94,000 km, BIMTA certified) with low/known ownership and, unusually, was accompanied by full Japanese service history from 1998 to 2017 (detailed in history file). It was a highly original example and in superb condition but was given a full service and clean bill-of-health from Torque GT before ownership. The car’s specification pre-import was refreshingly astute, with a nod to just modernising and reliability, and included aftermarket brake discs, a SARD high-flow catalytic converter, a Reimax exhaust, a Nismo equal length downpipe, and an R34 GT-R steering wheel (with receipt). Since importing the car, our vendor has added a Splitfire coil pack, a Link G4+ ECU (Abbey Motorsport stealth install) with two-stage boost switch hidden under gearstick gaiter (original ECU retained), a Tomei fuel pump, and a Blaupunkt DAB/Bluetooth radio and hands-free kit, whilst having had its R33 GT-R turbos rebuilt in 2020, by Turbo Dynamics, with steel internals (original turbos retained and are in fully working order, and will accompany the car) and the roof, rear wing and boot lid resprayed to rectify minor sun damage. The Japanese performance car market has woken up and there is an opportunity to be part of it with this original, well-cared for, low-ownership R33. We welcome any inspection of this example, it will not disappoint.SpecificationMake: NISSANModel: SKYLINE R33 GT-RYear: 1998Chassis Number: BCNR33040820Registration Number: S617 PAGTransmission: Manual Engine Number: RB26 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 60400 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Starts on the button and supplied with its original Bill of Sale, bookpack, two sets of keys, tool kit and the interior plastic protection still in place. A little time capsule!Only one motor manufacturer can boast a near 50-year dominance of the “nippy sports car” market as MG did between the 1920s and the 1970s. Starting with the home market demand for a reasonably priced convertible, with equal parts optimism and stoicism on the part of the driver, MG led the field both at home and abroad. The Midget moniker was first used with the introduction of the MG M-Type produced between 1929 and 1932, one of the first genuinely affordable sports cars to be offered by an established manufacturer.Successive generations of the Midget were so universally popular that a fluttering headscarf was as likely to be seen as a flat cap by a passing motorist. Perhaps the last British sports car to hold the driver’s enjoyment and budget in equal measure, the MG Midget’s fifty-year production run has a legacy represented today by the surviving examples and affectionate reminiscences by previous owners. The car's swansong arrived in 1978 in the form of the MG Midget 1500, easily distinguishable from its predecessor by the impact-resistant rubber bumpers required for the US market, whilst beneath the familiar coach lines there lay a Morris all-synchromesh gearbox. The adoption of head restraints, inertia-reel seatbelts, and dual-circuit braking were amongst improvements made before production ceased at the end of 1979. We lead nicely, therefore, to this remarkable car’s story that started with its purchase by a Mr Taylor. The accompanying Bill of Sale from Dutton Forshaw Ltd., of Blackburn on the 16th June 1979 confirms the purchase price of £2,624.26 and a letter dated 12th October 1979 from the dealer offers advice on how to register his new car. The Heritage Certificate confirms that the car was manufactured on the 27th October 1978, finished in black, with a matching hood and interior, fitted with Rostyle wheels and dispatched a few weeks later on the 15th November. It's understood that a second MG Midget was used as a daily driver by Mrs Taylor and, consequently, this car remained unregistered and dry stored over the following decades with protective plastic coverings over the seats and floor mats. The interior is a remarkable study for any car enthusiast and remains as crisp as the day the components were fitted. Starting on the key with the help of the choke, the engine ran and idled well and likewise forward and rear gear selection proved to be smooth. We note that the car, whilst dry stored, has acquired some surface 'browning' to certain metal components, caused by condensation, which is typical for cars stored in this manner and, in fact, adds to the originality of this very special little motorcar with just 45 miles on the odometer from new.Supplied to auction with its Handbooks safe in the bright blue Leyland Cars pocket folder, each booklet is crisp and the Leyland Cars SuperCover literature even contains the original self-addressed envelope. It's presented with both sets of keys, the original Bill of Sale, purchase receipt, dealer correspondence and its Heritage Certificate.Simply remarkable.SpecificationMake: MGModel: MIDGET 1500Year: 1978Chassis Number: GAN6/218113GRegistration Number: UNREGISTEREDTransmission: ManualEngine Number: FP/65969-EDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 45 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details and images

**Please note the car is not currently UK Registered, however a backdated NOVA has been applied for and is in progress with the information on its 2015/16 import to the UK, no taxes are due to be paid by the buyer.**A masterpiece of an homologation special, this is one of 20 built to 350bhp S specification, featuring improved air flow and an exceptionally rare ‘Rally Spec’ transmission and has covered just 1,932km (1,200 miles) from new. Ask any rally fan to name their favourite era and chances are that the wild Group B years will be at the top of most people’s list. It was a time of uncompromising and completely unhinged machinery, with designers and engineers really pushing the envelope when it came to interpreting the rules and endowing these four-wheel-drive turbocharged monsters with the maximum possible performance. Perhaps the wildest of them all was Ford’s RS200 and where the Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205 T16 and even the Lancia Delta S4 were very obviously derived from their more mundane production cousins, Ford took a different route, designing and building a Group B car that looked – and drove – like no other Ford before or since.Ford had, of course, been part of the rallying furniture ever since the rear-drive Escort made its debut, but as the WRC entered the Group B era, it found itself without a machine to compete at this level. Unusually for Ford, the solution proved elusive and, with the Escort RS1700T failing miserably, they were forced to return to the drawing board and start all over again. The result was the RS200. Produced by Ford Motorsport in Boreham from 1984-1986, the plastic-fibreglass composite body was designed by Filippo Sapino of Ghia Design Studio and, unusually, the bodywork for the majority of cars was entrusted to Reliant of Shenstone, a company who knew a fair bit about building fibreglass cars. The chassis engineering was looked after by F1 gurus, Tony Southgate and John Wheeler. Naturally, four-wheel-drive was essential, and it was built around a space-frame chassis, Kevlar bodywork, and a potent mid-mounted engine courtesy of well-proven race engine builder, Brian Hart. Add to this an innovative front-mounted gearbox for better weight distribution and balance, plus a variable torque-split differential from Ferguson, and you have a serious rally car. The RS200’s mid-mounted engine was a development of the RS1700T, but capacity was increased to 1,803cc with a bore and stroke of 86.0 and 77.62mm respectively. It featured Ford/Bosch injection and, with an 8.2:1 compression ratio allied with a Garrett turbocharger in road-going trim, it developed 246bhp at 6,500-7,000rpm and a maximum torque output of 215lb/ft at 4,000-5,000rpm. The rally cars had significantly more to play with – 444bhp at a screaming 8,000rpm and 361lb/ft at 5,500rpm.Ford had now become ‘late starters' and were effectively three years behind, but it finally looked like they had a winning package after Kalle Grundell came home third in the Swedish Rally of 1986. However, the fickle finger of fate was soon to be pointed at Group B and, after a series of tragedies with both drivers and spectators being killed, it became obvious that 600bhp, lightweight rally cars being threaded at three-figure speeds through banks of standing spectators was not the way forward, and the decision was taken by the FIA to pull the plug on Group B at the end of the 1986 season. As a result, after just one year in competition, it was all over for the RS200 so it never got to show off its full potential, however, despite being pushed off the WRC stage, the RS200 was hugely competitive and experienced great success elsewhere in the hands of Stig Blomqvist, Malcolm Wilson, Mark Rennison and Mark Lovell, who clinched the British Rally Championship with his RS200 and more success in Rallycross, taking victories across Europe and winning back-to-back championships in the British Rallycross Championship in 1987 and 1988 with Mark Rennison.FIA Homologation Rules for Group B required the construction of at least 200 road-legal vehicles, however, the demise of Group B meant that only 144 were completed. Of these, 20 were sold to Canadian Murray DeWert who's plan was to develop them further and create "the best RS200s ever". Subsequently known as the RS200 S they were fitted with several upgrades including electric windows, a more comfortable Tickford interior, improved air flow and ducting, air intakes - often referred to as ‘ears’- above the doors at the back of the roof as per the competition cars and, importantly, an increase in power from 250bhp to 350bhp. Make no mistake, the RS200 S was blisteringly fast, with 0-60 taking just 3.8s.Believed to have been the 16th RS200 S, this example is #164 and was first delivered to West German dealer, Stefan Schollwoek in left-hand drive with a rally specification dog-clutch selector, which allows the driver to control the four-wheel-drive torque split with a secondary gearstick. Schollwoek purchased four examples of the RS200 S,  #111, #137, #153 and #164, the latter being sold to a German collector who registered it in Germany under a company named ‘Primrose’. We understand from the Ferrari-trained mechanic employed to look after the cars, Giovanni Petrozziello, that #164 had entered the collection in the early 1990s. Our vendor purchased the car to add to their outstanding collection in 2015, but never registered it here in the UK. However, the vendor has always ensured it was kept in good running and driving order. The history file is fairly bare, as is to be expected of a car that has only covered 1,932km since new, but it does include a copy of the German registration document, a brief summary and photographs of the car prior to our vendor's purchase, and original additional support pads for the seats. It's presented in remarkably original and very good condition throughout and retains the correct grey trim with red Recaro sports seats and matching red leather steering wheel. As one of only 20 of these bespoke S models and with just 1,200 gentle miles covered in the last 35 years, #164 would certainly occupy pride of place in any exclusive collection of RS Fords and, should its next owner choose to use the car on the road, they would enjoy a seriously quick, totally competent, lightweight sports car that appears relatively civilised, however, underneath that gleaming Diamond White paintwork, its DNA is undoubtedly pure 'Group B'.  SpecificationMake: FORDModel: RS200 SYear: 1986Chassis Number: SFACXXBJ2CGL00164Registration Number: TBCTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 1932 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: Grey/RedClick here for more details and images

Shooting brake-cool styling and a sonorous soundtrack from the desirable S54 engine; one of only 165 RHD Z3M Coupés produced worldwide, with just 123 for the UK-market. Ex-EVO ‘Fast Fleet’ car, with a full and comprehensive service history. The Z3 was the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW as well as the first new BMW model to be assembled in the United States. It was introduced as a 1996 model year vehicle, shortly after being featured in the James Bond movie 'Goldeneye'. While the film was number one at the box office, sales of the car peaked and over 15,000 orders had been placed by the time the car was launched. The Z3 was designed by Joji Nagashima of the BMW design team and developed from the 3-series E36 platform and consequently is often referred to as the E36/7 (Roadster) or E36/8 (Coupé). When launched, only the 1.9-litre, straight-four engine was offered, but its 138bhp proved a bit short of breath. A 2.2-litre engine producing 168bhp was made available for the more enthusiastic driver whilst in 1997 a powerful six-cylinder 2.8-litre unit producing 190bhp was an option, and ultimately, in 1998, the 3.2-litre Z3M topped the range. In October 2001, the 'M' Coupé reappeared with the new 3.2-litre ‘S54’B32 engine from the E46 M3, producing 321bhp at 7400rpm and 258lb/ft, and it transformed the Z3M. On paper, the difference is a mere 4bhp, in the real world it feels like at least 40bhp! The free revving characteristics remained, but with the power instantly available, throughout the range; smoother, torquier, more responsive – in other words, the drivers’ choice and the model the enthusiasts hanker for. Only 165 right-hand drive Z3M Coupés were made worldwide, which makes this a rare and very desirable car.The car presented here is 2001 BMW Z3M Coupé (‘S54’ engine) first registered in April 2001 by BMW UK and was their press launch car. You can certainly see why, with its ultimate specification (sunroof, Harman Kardon hi-fi, cruise control, heated seats, electric mirrors, 6-CD player) plus its Titan Silver Metallic paintwork and Black Leather interior (subtly without the coloured leather inserts); it was as desirable as a Z3M could be. As part of its status, the car was given to (the now) Silverstone Auctions ambassador Harry Metcalfe and his team at EVO magazine to join their ‘Fast Fleet’ feature for 11 months, covering some 25,000 miles, and featured on their cover shoot as part of the ‘Gran Turismo 5’ article (numerous copies of the EVO magazines reporting on the car form part of thes accompanying history file), receiving glowing reports.Accompanied by a full and comprehensive service history with a folder of receipts:· 30/04/2001 – BMW Dealer 80210 – Run in service – 974 miles· 19/10/2001 – BMW Dealer 16113 – Oil change service – 14,159 miles· 27/06/2002 – BMW UK Distribution Centre – Inspection 1 Service – 25,923 miles· 16/09/2004 – BMW Dealer 16231 – Oil Change Service – 34,880 miles· 20/10/2006 – BMW Dealer 16319 – Inspection 2 Service – 44,809 miles· 18/05/2009 – BMW Dealer 16319 – Oil Change Service – 52,412 miles· 20/06/2011 – GC Motors Harrogate – Inspection 1 Service – 56,606 miles· 04/10/2013 – GC Motors Harrogate – Oil Change Service – 61,359 miles· 16/11/2015 – Newhall BMW – Oil Change Service – 63,176 miles· 30/11/2017 – Newhall BMW – Inspection 2 Service – 63,550 miles· 17/09/2020 – BMW Dealer 16258 - Oil Change Service – 63,900 milesOn offer to market from a small and private collection, the car is freshly MOT’d until 26th January 2024 and has been in storage over the winter. A fine example of the ultimate Impreza, number #100 of the 400 limited examples manufactured for the Japanese domestic market and offered from long-term private ownership.Built to celebrate both the marque's 40th anniversary and its third straight WRC manufacturers' title, the 22B STi was billed as the production version of Subaru's already-iconic two-door World Rally Car. With its beefy front and rear arches increasing width by 80mm, a high-rise rear spoiler and the unique EJ22 engine, the 22B was as close to Colin McRae's rally car as any mortal was ever going to get. It wasn't so much a homologation special but more of a road-going replica.Data suggests that a total of 426 cars were manufactured. Three cars, designated #000, were presented to Colin McRae, Nicky Grist and David Lapworth, there was no number 13, and 24 cars were manufactured for issue outside of Japan. Of these 24, 16 were delivered to the UK and the other eight went to Subaru concessions throughout the world. Each 22B was hand-built starting with a lightweight 2-door WRX bodyshell with the front and rear arches removed and replaced with wide arches to facilitate the increased track (40mm upfront and 80mm at the rear). The cubic capacity was increased to 2.2-litres from 2.0-litres and, when combined with custom fuel rails, lightweight forged pistons and a large IHI VF23 roller-bearing turbo, an additional 70bhp and huge mid-range torque at 3,000rpm resulted. The package is neatly finished off with the same adjustable rear spoiler as the WRC car enabling downforce to be varied on twisty tarmac events.Offered here at the 2023 Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show is #100 of the 400 limited examples manufactured for the Japanese domestic market. On offer from long-term ownership, a clean HPI report shows that this example was imported in 2002 with our vendor taking ownership of the rare Subaru in 2004. It's presented in lovely overall condition with the Sonic Blue paintwork retaining a deep gloss and the interior also presents very nicely. There are a few period modifications such as the performance exhaust and uprated brakes with original items forming part of the sale (as seen in the images) along with a nice set of genuine OZ Magnesium wheels also in gold.Accompanied by a history file which includes the current V5C registration papers ready for transfer of ownership or export, invoices for parts and maintenance over the years, MOT Certificates, original parts (as seen in our professional images) and the Cherished Registration Number, R22 BDP, which will also form part of the sale. These iconic modern classics are becoming increasingly difficult to source, especially in such excellent order. Enthusiasts across the globe are keen to make sure a 22B STi features in their collection and rightly so as this golden era of rallying will never be repeated.SpecificationMake: SUBARUModel: IMPREZA 22BYear: 1998Chassis Number: GC8069492Registration Number: R22 BDPTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 44322 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black/BlueClick here for more details and images

A fabulous example of Ford's inimitable GT offering nearly 600bhp.In Ford Motor Company's long and hugely successful history, few events are as memorable and as important as the GT40's four consecutive overall victories at Le Mans. The impetus to build Le Mans cars to compete with Ferrari undoubtedly stemmed from their failed attempt to acquire the Modena firm, and an understandably frustrated Ford enlisted Carroll Shelby and others to build a racing car with one mission: to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. With their goals set high, the GT40 became the most iconic and successful underdog in Le Mans history.Arriving in prototype form just in time for Ford's Centennial celebration in 2003, the new Ford GT borrowed heavily from the stunning design and profile of the GT40 and set out on a similar mission: to compete with, and surpass, the established supercars. The ultra-high performance Ford GT showcases the finest in advanced technologies, constructed on a lightweight aluminium chassis clothed in superplastic-formed lightweight composite and aluminium body panels. Powered by a mid-mounted, hand-built, supercharged quad-cam 550bhp V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transaxle and featuring racing-derived suspension and braking systems, the GT delivers astounding power and performance. With this prolific power, the Ford GT will accelerate from 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds on its way to 205mph before the speed limiter kicks in. When production ceased in 2006, with just over 4,000 Ford GTs produced, this epic Ford had made its mark on automotive history once again and became an instant collector's car. This immaculate left-hand drive 2005 Ford GT has covered 10,380 miles since it left the factory nearly 17 years ago. It was built in the US in 2005 and was imported into the UK later that year by Roush (Mountune). This car has since been enjoyed by its five UK owners and Roush have looked after the car for most of them. Indeed, in 2008 they "upgraded" the car with a 'Tubi' exhaust system, updated throttle bodies and an uprated pulley, all of which resulted in around 600bhp.Included in the history file are older MOTs supporting the mileage indicated and it also contains service invoices from Mountune and GT101 in 2008 and a number of later years. The vendor describes the car as 'totally original', with its original paint and paint protection film. It's formed part of a significant private collection for the last few years but has regularly been exercised covering around 300 miles and has been MOT'd yearly. The Ford GT is part of a rare class of modern cars that instantly become collectable, and have become more and more sought-after. Given its inimitable heritage, prolific performance, stunning design, and thrilling driving experience, Ford's supercar is a very special creation that will undoubtedly be revered for years to come. A desirable, second-generation RS Turbo with one registered owner from new. Based on the success of the previous model, the Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 (produced between 1986-1990) was more suited to daily use, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a 'homologation special'. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1,600cc, fuel-injected, CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garrett T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE-Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 produced an impressive 132bhp at 5,750rpm, with maximum torque of 133lb/ft produced at 2,750 rpm, offering ample performance with a top speed of 125mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. Although on paper these figures were a tad down on the Series 1, the new car was considerably easier to drive quickly and was, effectively, a faster car.Supplied new by White Bros, Ford of Taunton and first registered on 31/08/1989, this smart Mercury Grey, second-generation RS Turbo has remained a one registered owner vehicle from new. It has covered just 60,750 miles from new and still remains delightfully original, still wearing its original dealer plates. and accompanied by the original Bill of Sale, all three keys, the original Service Records and lots of history. It will have a fresh MOT prior to our sale.In common with most 'performance Fords' from that era, these Escort RS Turbos have continued to gain momentum in the collectors' market and this is a rare opportunity to find, a one registered owner car in the comparatively rare colour of Mercury Grey.     SpecificationMake: FORDModel: ESCORT RS TURBO S2Year: 1989Chassis Number: WF0BXXGCABKA36912Registration Number: G501 LYCTransmission: ManualEngine Number: KA36912 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 60570 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

A Dieppe-built car boasting a genuine 812 Gordini engine and fresh to market from long-term ownership. In the early 1950s, French competition cars were few and far between and it was left to a young French engineer to redress the balance. Jean Rédélé, whose father ran a Renault dealership in Dieppe, initially used a modified Renault 4CV in a variety of events and rallies, his endeavours being rewarded with a Coupe des Alpes in 1950 and three 750cc class wins in the 1952-1954 Mille Miglias. It was then that Rédélé decided to build his own cars, appropriately choosing Alpine as the marque name. Société des Automobiles Alpine was duly formed in 1955 with the A106 as the first model utilising modified Renault 4CV running gear. The following year, Maurice Michy driving an A106 won his class in the Mille Miglia. Variants with up to 950cc engines followed - a steel-bodied A107 was dropped - before the A108 of 1957. It was in 1963, however, when the most familiar body style appeared in the form of the Renault R8-based A110 which used 1,100cc to 1,800cc engines during its 15 years of production.  According to the accompanying history file, this special Dieppe-built Alpine was first registered at Sinecy in Northern France on the 26th October 1972 with the registration ‘2084RB02’. It was subsequently registered here in the UK in 1990 with various different registration numbers used under different ownerships. The last UK registration recorded was ‘SCK 728L’ prior to its purchase in 2005 when it moved to the Isle of Man where it has resided ever since. There is more detailed information about previous UK based owners in the accompanying history file.Sadly, the owner of this Alpine passed away in August 2022 and the car is being offered by his widow to our Race Retro auction. Her late husband was a real enthusiast of the Alpine marque and, in 1995, whilst on holiday doing a tour of the racing circuits around France, one of the cars on the trip was an A110 and he declared that his dream one day was to own one. That dream came true some ten years later in 2005 when a long search for the right car was rewarded with the arrival of #13995.In the years that followed, the A110 was well cared for with time during our vendor's retirement being spent tinkering with the Alpine, as he had a passion for doing the right thing and making sure everything was done correctly. Indeed, under his ownership, the genuine 812 Gordini engine was enlarged to 1,296cc and rebuilt by old-school Renault engine guru, Salv Sacco, who fitted forged pistons and balanced the engine internals. At the same time, a new wiring loom was fitted in order that the car was in tip-top order for trips and tours around Europe.Much fun and lifetime memories were made in the years that followed with trips to Ireland, Scotland, HRCR runs in the Forest of Dean, several holidays in Germany and France along with a trip to the Le Mans Classic. In 2014, our late vendor and his wife took on a trip with the Manx Classic Car Club to Angouleme for the circuit Des Ramparts, Rallye international, Charente. It was the only UK (Manx) registered A110 at the event and our vendor was invited to do six laps of the circuit to open the racing along with other racing drivers. It was at this event that Michelle Leclerc signed the boot lid of the car for our late vendor as they became friends at that event and remained friends. This lovely Alpine is being offered to auction at a very attractive estimate and is accompanied by an impressive, documented history file that we encourage all interested parties to go through. As you can see in the attached images, the car is also provided with some hard-to-find parts, along with an impressive collection of rare Alpine manuals and reference books available to inspect at Race Retro. Please note that, if the car is bought by someone in the UK, then a NOVA and subsequently a new V5 will need to be applied for as the car is currently registered in the Isle of Man.Overall, this is a rare and desirable car, on offer from long term private ownership and is an exciting opportunity for its new owner to write the next chapter of the fascinating story of #13395.SpecificationMake: RENAULTModel: ALPINE A110Year: 1972Chassis Number: 13395Registration Number: RMN 894A (IOM)Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 40523 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

A superb example of the Evoluzione II in a very rare colour with low mileage and celebrity provenance.First seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1979, the Lancia Delta Integrale is best known for its domination of the World Rally Championship in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Constantly being developed, the first Evoluzione cars were built at the end of 1991 and carried on through 1992 and these Evo models were to be the final homologation cars built for the Lancia Rally Team competing under the Martini Racing banner.Arriving in June 1993, a further development of the HF Integrale naturally became known as the Evo II and featured an updated version of the 2-litre, 16-valve turbo engine producing a little more power (215bhp) and incorporated a three-way catalyst and a Lambda probe, with everything being run by a new Marelli integrated engine control system. Only 4,223 cars were ever built for the global market and the car is now regarded, like several previous Lancia models such as the Fulvia, Stratos and 037, as Rally Royalty. This, 1993 model Evo II, also featured a cosmetic and functional facelift that included 16'' light alloy rims with 205/45/ZR16 tyres, a body-colour roof moulding to underline the connection between the roof and the solar tinted windows, as well as an aluminium fuel cap and air-intake grills, a red colour-coded cam cover on the engine and a leather-covered, three-spoke MOMO steering wheel along with Recaro bucket seats upholstered in Tan Alcantara with diagonal stitching. The Evo 2 HF Integrale is now considered by many as the one to have and this particular car enjoys an exceptional and appealing pedigree.Originally supplied to Japan, this car was then selected and imported back to the UK in 2011 with all duties paid. It had been chosen for its rare colour of Lord Blue which is extremely smart and also its comprehensive Japanese service history. The interior of this particular car is also immaculate with the Tan Alcantara high-back seats still looking like new. Maintained professionally on an annual basis in the UK, the car had covered just over 87,000km when, back in May 2021, it was purchased by well known comedian, actor and long time petrol head, Rowan Atkinson CBE.He is known to be particularly meticulous when it comes to looking after his cars, and the accompanying history file confirms significant expenditure during his tenure. There are invoices detailing a service shortly after his purchase in 2021 (£2,500), a light paint refresh shortly afterwards (£1,800) and a large service with any minor items attended to last year (2022) at a cost of £5,500, all of which explains why the little Lancia remains in such fabulous condition. He has enjoyed many happy hours in the car, although the total mileage still remains below 90,000km.The second-generation EVO is particularly topical at the moment and collectors are constantly seeking exceptional examples with a well detailed history and in rare colours which this car firmly represents. Supplied with a comprehensive history file, its V5C and a current MOT, this car is ready to be enjoyed and driven as it should be. The market for Integrales of all types continues to firm and this superb example in a subtle shade of dark blue, with low mileage and celebrity provenance deserves your consideration.SpecificationMake: LANCIAModel: HF INTEGRALE EVO IIYear: 1993Chassis Number: ZLA831AB000583203Registration Number: L104 MJHTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 89300 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: Tan AlacantaraClick here for more details and images

Presenting in exceptional condition, this Tommykaira R-S is a unicorn of the JDM world and one of just 35 Tommykaira R34s ever produced. Generating some 435bhp from the uprated RB26 DETT, this car is a fabulous look-back at the pinnacle of Japanese tuning houses in their prime. The car culture in Japan is globally renowned for its passion for modification, enthusiasm for all cars, and unbridled ability to push the boat out. Throughout the 1990s, the tuner culture truly exploded in the Japanese car world with, now infamous, garages, workshops and brands popping up and growing notoriety such as Smokey Nagata’s ‘Top Secret’, Akira Nakai’s ‘RWB’, and brands/factions such as Nismo, Blitz, HKS and others. One of these brands was Tommykaira.Originally founded in 1986 as Tomita Yume Koujou, Tommykaira is a Japanese car tuning and manufacturing company headquartered in Minami-ku, Kyoto and named after its two founders, Yoshikazu Tomita and Kikuo Kaira. Several of its cars have appeared in both the Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport racing simulation video game series which boosted their popularity and awareness of the brand.Tommykaira tuned, modified and then re-branded cars as if they were manufactured by the company itself, with the permission of the parent manufacturers, much like the German counterparts of Ruf and Gemballa do with Porsches. A Subaru Impreza was re-branded as Tommykaira M20b, a Nissan 350Z as a Tommykaira Z, and the most notorious JDM car of all, the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R was offered in three guises, the Tommykaira R, R-S or RZ featuring different levels of aggression, styling and power, the R being entry level, the R-S the mid-range, most balanced option and the RZ the most aggressive. The R34 GT-R's popularity was rocketed by an appearance in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise that led to an explosion in global popularity for the R34 GT-R. Indeed, the late Paul Walker drove an R34 GT-R in '2 Fast 2 Furious', enhancing its almost cult status. But it was in the 'real' world where the R34 GT-R V-Spec would cement its reputation. Described by Evo Magazine as "A warrior-class performer" in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a class-act remained intact. The R33 GT-R was a good car, but many found it to be too bulky in design and too heavy to be a worthy successor to the R32 GT-R, which the R34 sought to rectify, and did so with flying colours. Released with a shorter, sharper design and the performance to match, it’s safe to say the bite truly matches the bark. For a car released in 1999, the R34 came crammed full of technology including a 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics such as boost pressure, oil/water temperature and throttle percentage amongst others. It arrived with aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo, inline-six mated to an all-new Getrag 6-speed gearbox and transfer case. The electronically controlled Super HICAS rear-wheel steering system was retained. Unlike some other performance cars of the 1990s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs, although Tommykaira did upgrade these further to match the power increase. The example offered here is a V-Spec JDM-delivered car and is one of just 522 produced in GV1, Pearl Black, out of a production run of 11,578 cars. Importantly, this was one of the very select cars that Tommykaira got their hands on. Tommykaira built three variations of the R34, the entry level R with 375bhp, the R-S with 435bhp and a host of mechanical upgrades and the hardcore RZ with over 500bhp. Tommykaira upgrades were both mechanical and cosmetic with a view to improving and refining the already outstanding R34 GTR, seeking to make it faster, better to drive and overall improved on both road and track without compromising comfort. On the mechanical side, we have Nissan’s legendary 2.6-litre twin-turbo engine now producing 435bhp thanks to its N1 Turbos, Tommykaira remapped ECU, stainless-steel Tommykaira exhaust system, uprated radiator, oil cooler, intercooler, turbine kit and air filters. The driving experience is enhanced with uprated Bilstein gas-filled shock absorbers, 25mm lowering springs, upgraded front tension rods, a strut-brace and a twin-plate cutch. Cosmetically, the R-S model features an exclusive mesh grille, front bumper, front spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper, rear valance and diffusers, as well as an adjustable alloy GT wing and more Tommykaira emblems than you can shake a stick at. Step foot near this car and you’ll have no doubt who built it and why.It rides on its original lightweight, and recently refurbished (costing £460 from Platinum Alloys), 19-inch, six-spoke Tommykaira ‘Pro R’ magnesium wheels finished in gold and wrapped in Bridgestone Potenzas all-round, with massive AP Racing six-piston callipers and discs on the front with two-piston callipers on the back, meaning this JDM hero stops as fast as it accelerates. The interior also saw sympathetic upgrades featuring exclusive Tommykaira sports seats with red embroidered Tommykaira emblems, a black leather-trimmed centre armrest, handbrake grip and steering wheel with red contrast stitching, and light gold trim inserts. Additionally, there are bespoke Tommykaira floor mats, gear knob, foot rest, tinted windows, automatic climate control, a Clarion infotainment system with satellite navigation, a multifunctional display (MFD), electrically adjustable mirrors and a fabulous Tommykaira aluminium faced digital speedometer with a peak torque and a shift light.Within the history file there is a good summary of its owners in Japan, its auction report including photos prior to export, and a good amount of Japanese history. It was most recently serviced on 24th August 2022 by Abbey Motorsport costing £827 including all fluids changed and a fresh MOT despite only covering just over 1,000km since its last service. In 2019 Abbey Motorsport carried out another service including changing the timing belt, fitting a custom-made radiator and a new battery with the invoice totalling £1,951. The history file also contains a big section of OEM/OEM+ parts bought from either Nissan directly or from Japan and Authenticity Certificates on the Tommykaira parts as well as the original Tommykaira Sales Brochure. It will be supplied with a custom Tommykaira car cover, jack kit and spare wheel.Imported in 2016 and owned by our vendor since then, this utterly stunning Tommykaira R-S has covered just 76,727km (47,675 miles) from new and presents in outstanding condition, testament to our vendor who has kept it in dry storage whenever not in use and never allowed it to see the dreaded UK salt, thus ensuring its all-round stunning condition. This represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a phenomenally rare example of arguably the fastest appreciating modern-classic in the fastest appreciating sector of the market which showcases just how capable these Japanese tuning houses were at building phenomenal cars for both road and track. With the USA market just 1-2 years away for a lot of GT-Rs, it could be an outstandingly smart investment that can also be enjoyed in the meantime.SpecificationMake: NISSANClick here for more details and images

Delightfully presented B-Spec ex-California car, now right-hand drive after a bespoke restoration. An unusual departure for a firm more noted for its stately limousines, the SP250 sports car was Daimler's final fling before its acquisition by Jaguar. Aimed at the North American market and launched in 1959, the model was initially named the Dart, however, that was subsequently dropped after the threat of legal action from the American giant, Chrysler who's Dodge division owned the rights to the Dart model name and, from this point onwards, Daimler would appoint the project number, SP250, as its model designation. The SP250 employed a separate ladder-type chassis on which sat controversially-styled fibreglass coachwork moulded by Daimler themselves. Four-wheel disc brakes were an unusual feature at the time but unquestionably the car's biggest virtue was its magnificent 2.5-litre V8 engine. An outstandingly flexible unit, the smaller of Daimler's two Edward Turner designed V8s produced 140bhp, an output good enough to propel the SP250 to a top speed of 125mph. In-keeping with the demands of its intended market, automatic transmission was available as an option.Early cars apparently suffered from a degree of ‘chassis flex’ and to address this the 'B-spec' version was fitted with extra chassis outriggers and a strengthening hoop between the A-posts. The later car also benefited from a number of detail improvements including an adjustable steering column. This lovely 'B-spec' example spent its early life in sunny California before returning to the UK in 2013, without engine and gearbox, and was immediately subject to a complete, body-off, photo-documented, five-year, bespoke restoration. It was converted to right-hand drive and fitted with a V8 250 saloon engine and BW35 automatic gearbox.Pretty is an adjective not normally associated with the ‘macho’ lines of the SP250 but, finished in a lush Bentley Verdant Green with a stylish parchment leather interior, the word may well apply to this attractive little Daimler. Other features include a desirable hardtop, figured walnut dashboard, chrome wires and Speedwell mirrors. Our vendor informs us that he’s also fitted a new mohair hood which has never been used. The car is accompanied by a workshop manual (correct engine and gearbox), parts manual, Heritage record and a wiring diagram. In period, the SP250 was regarded as rather quirky and its shape did divide opinion somewhat, however, with the passage of time, its 'futuristic' lines now look just right and the 'Dart' has evolved into a very desirable classic. SpecificationMake: DAIMLERModel: DARTYear: 1961Chassis Number: 100915Registration Number: 998 XVCTransmission: AutoEngine Number: 7A12546Drive Side: Right-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

Dazzling, 3-litre, twin-turbo Noble M12 with less than 14,000 miles from new.Noble Automotive Ltd. was founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur, car designer and engineer Lee Noble and, using his experience from his time spent at Ascari, he quickly established his company's commitment to designing and manufacturing high-performance sports cars with a mid-engine, rear wheel drive layout. As chief designer, he oversaw the evolution of the company's first model, the M10, into the M12 which was first produced in 2000. This soon became a benchmark for its incredibly compliant ride, pin sharp handling and impressive power delivery, receiving almost universal praise from, frequently difficult to impress, motoring journalists.Lee Noble sold the company in August 2006 to Peter Dyson and later moved on in 2008 to work on other ventures, however, as well as being a knowledgeable collector of exotic cars and a successful business entrepreneur, Dyson was an M12 owner and a huge admirer of both Noble Automotive and the M12's attributes. He has taken Noble Automotive forward, with new hi-tech premises in Leicestershire and their current model, the M600, is a highly regarded supercar and a serious competitor to many more established and revered marques. The M12 was produced in four versions (GTO 2.5, GTO-3 3.0, GTO-3R 3.0, with the M400 being the ultimate variant), all being powered by a sympathetically tuned (forge decompressed rods, cylinder block modifications with cylinder bore oil spray jets, crankshaft balancing, and turbo oil feeds built into the heads, along with ST 220 camshafts, coil top plugs, and a new MBE engine management system) twin-turbocharged Ford Duratec V6 engine. The basic structure consists of a steel tub with a full steel roll-cage and G.R.P composite clamshell body parts. These cars are extremely lightweight and stiff, with the ability to perform very well on both road and track, and offer surprisingly good ride quality and lots of confidence-inspiring feedback. At launch, the M12 had 310bhp with the help of its pair of Garrett T25 turbos, giving a top speed of 165mph and a 0-60mph time of 4.1 seconds. With its quasi-racer feel, being heightened by the very visible Alcantara-trimmed roll-cage and no-nonsense instruments, this really is a driver's car. There was no ABS, no traction control and no ESP, just real engineering integrity and a brilliant design and the M12 was able to compete dynamically with the best junior supercars of the day. This particular example, built in 2004, is an M12 GTO-3R and has been enjoyed by just two owners from new, the second from three months old, who between them have covered a little less than 14,000 miles. Finished in a gorgeous shade of Azure Blue with black hide, this sensational driver’s car presents extremely well throughout with minor chips to the frontal area as you might expect for any vehicle of this nature. Having been in professional storage since 2009, the Noble has now been released from its slumber, recommissioned and presented for an MOT inspection, passing with flying colours in readiness for its next custodian. This increasingly desirable track-derived sports car, complete with its original book pack, now provides the opportunity for exciting and entertaining road use or exhilarating track day excursions. Which ever you choose, having an M12 in the stable must surely be a box ticked for any serious petrol head.SpecificationMake: NOBLEModel: M12 GTO - 3RYear: 2004Chassis Number: SA93MR2M3D113R061Registration Number: AY04 EBXTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 13725 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black HideClick here for more details and images

A fascinating, rare and bespoke XJR-S, coming from 22-years ownership, just 59,000 miles and a full service history.Between 1992 and the early 2000s, Paul Bailey’s Bristol-based company, PBB Design, offered a series of modifications for the XJ-S under the name Monaco, completely changing the car’s look and character. Built in tiny numbers, it was one of the better-designed, modified examples of Jaguar’s big GT that were prevalent at the time.Following a career in the aircraft industry, Bailey moved to Bristol-based Glenfrome Engineering, which produced lengthened five-door and open versions of the Range Rover, plus a futuristic design based on the SUV called the Facet. It also experimented with a long wheelbase version of the XJ-S. While Paul had long admired the XJ-S in terms of its dynamics, its angular styling had never impressed him – so he penned his own version ensuring the changes would be possible. “There’s no point in dreaming up a design that couldn’t be built,”  he said in the April 1992 issue of 'Jaguar Quarterly'; “I wanted my car to be exactly as I drew it.”His design included a longer, rounder nose that featured a downturned oval grille, and much wider wheel arches front and back to cover huge alloys. The glass-fibre panels simply attached to the car’s bodywork, requiring no structural changes, although Bailey had considered producing them in steel. He even involved Park Sheet Metal – which produced many of Jaguar’s own concepts, including the first XJ220 – during the early stages of the project. However, the metal around the arches had to be cut away, along with a little around the headlight area to make room for larger light pods where Bailey planned to use small projector lamps by Bosch. The bonnet was also new, again made from composite, and required a redesign of its hinge mounting due to the lower rake of the front. The result was a handsome, modern car that still harked back to Jaguar’s past, “There is probably more ‘spirit of the E-Type’ in the PBB than in anything built yet,” was Jaguar Quarterly’s 1992 view.It wasn’t a cheap conversion, though, since the body-kit alone cost £24,500 when fitted at PBB Design’s Bristol premises. This did include handsome 17'' split rims from Compomotive, plus a suspension package developed by handling experts, Harvey Bailey Engineering. PBB Design was also able to offer various drivetrain upgrades, including a Rob Beere Engineering-developed 7.3-litre V12, and a totally bespoke interior that featured better-quality leather for the seats, a suede-covered dashboard and plush carpets.Unsurprisingly, at this price only a handful were made. The consensus is 12, mixed between coupés and convertibles, V12s and straight-sixes, but this can’t be confirmed. What also comes as no surprise is that the Sultan of Brunei was said to be a customer (as he had been at Glenfrome), purported to have bought the first two production examples of the Monaco.Sadly, Bailey wound up PBB Design in 2001 following a heart attack and sold the moulds for the Monaco to a Texas-based engineering firm. The car presented here has a story to tell in two parts: its first incarnation was as the very first Monaco example, produced as a prototype by PBB Design ( c.1991) and was used as the company’s ‘poster car’ for numerous magazine shoots in the early 1990s. The most famous of which was probably for Performance Car later morphing into Harry Metcalfe’s ‘EVO’) in 1992, which gathered together a real ‘who’s who’ of Jaguar design engineers and their cars of the time – there was Paul Bailey in this particular car, William Towns in his Railton Claremont, Laurence Pearce in his Lister XJ-S and Paul Hands in his Hyper XJ-S.Subsequently, this very special car was sold to its first owner, understood to have been in the Scottish oil industry, and later acquired by its next owner, based in High Wycombe, who would go on to keep it for the next 22 years. The original car used as the PBB prototype had been a standard X-JS V12 and, by the late 1990s was feeling a bit underwhelming, so in 1999, the owner approached Paul Hands about updating the car’s specification to a bit closer to the high-performance examples PBB were currently producing. The decision was made to extract all the original PBB elements, source a newer, later-production Jaguar and rebuild it to the same exacting standards, all done by one of the best in the business, Paul Hands. The car chosen to receive this expert treatment was a low-mileage, fully serviced 1990 Jaguar XJR-S 6.0-litre (SAJJSAES3BB170057), an example of the final evolution of the Jaguar XJ-S, hand-built at JaguarSport at Bloxham, the high-tech facility that had been home to XJ220 production. The JaguarSport XJR-S may have looked like its production counterparts but differed immensely with many parts unique to the model and, of course its 6.0-litre V12 engine. The engine was rated at 318bhp and was 700cc larger than the previous 5.3-litre V12. A modified intake system and a low-loss true dual exhaust system was part of the car’s advanced specification. The suspension was further developed by TWR with increased coil spring rates and the Bilstein shocks, front and rear, were specially tuned for the XJR-S. Only 115 were built in right-hand drive. The transformed car was then routinely serviced by Paul Hands and Hyper for the following decade and more, receiving, in May 2000, an uprated Hyper 3-speed clutch less manual gearbox (costing £1,650), said to transform the driving performance. Silverstone Auctions have chatted at length to Paul Hands, and he recalled the car and its long-time owner immediately, confirming that he did the transformative rebuild of it and the subsequent servicing. There is a Valuation Report/Certificate written by him and numerous invoices for servicing in the accompanying history file. Present also are the original book-pack, service booklet and paperwork relating to the XJR-S that was utilised, helping verify the mileage. The car was last fully serviced at Jaguar specialists Powerbell Services of Taplow in May 2022 at 58,763 miles and is said to drive and perform as one would expect. If you’ve ever hankered for a Jaguar XJ-S, why not choose one with a fascinating backstory and unique appeal, conceived in the heyday of XJS design evolution. SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: XJR-S 6.0-LITRE V12 'MONACO' BY PBB DESIGNYear: 1990Chassis Number: SAJJSAES3BB170057Registration Number: XIJ 326Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: 8W010150HB Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 59000 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Chassis #5 of the 100 Evo VIII range-topping FQ-400s. On offer from 15-year ownership with mechanical upgrades and modifications leaving this car with a safe 610bhp output. The Evo VIII had some big boots to follow, not only due to its hugely successful predecessors and the ongoing rivalry with Subaru’s Impreza, but it’s safe to say the Evo VIII succeeded with flying colours. First released in March 2003, the Evo VIII was the very first Evo model to have full UK factory approval as, prior to the VIII, Evos were imported on a bit of a nudge and a wink basis through third parties such as Ralliart and therefore weren't covered by Mitsubishi's normal warranty and servicing deals. Ralliart was also moved in-house, forming an integral part of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Europe. The Evo VIII was offered in a few guises, the 260, FQ300, FQ320, FQ340, and FQ400 variants with the number denoting the rounded power figure the specific car produced. The FQ-400 was not only the rarest, with just 100 ever made, but also the most expensive at £47,000 new, and the most powerful. It pushed out 405bhp from its 2-litre turbocharged 4G63 inline-four, making it a seriously quick motor car offering 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and topping out at 175mph. Equally capable when the going gets twisty, it infamously humbled a 620bhp Lamborghini Murcielago around the Top Gear test track without breaking a sweat. This fabulous Evo VIII (Number #5 of 100) is very impressive across the board, and whilst not strictly standard, the changes made to it are purely to benefit the driving experience, arguably granting it Q-car status. First registered on 22nd October 2004, this FQ-400 benefits from full Mitsubishi main dealer/specialist garage history for servicing and maintenance, with 25 service stamps to its name, averaging just 2,000 miles in between services from new, most recently by CPP Motor Development on 10th May 2022.Our marque-enthusiast vendor explains that the car has been his passion and hobby for 15 years. It is undeniable that whenever the car has required something, it received it. The MOT history is near impeccable, and when it highlighted the front subframe has signs of surface corrosion, a brand new one was sourced and immediately replaced. The factory engine specification and performance is wildly impressive including a forged engine, custom-built Garrett turbo, HKS forged rods, Omega forged pistons, HKS injectors, the list goes on, but this car has quite a trick up its sleeve… Seemingly unsatisfied by this cars supercar killing performance, this FQ-400 is now running to a safe 603bhp, at 2.2-bar of boost, with a two-page specification explaining how its arrived at this staggering figure. Built by renowned Evo engine specialist, CPP Motor Developments, the engine features a whole host of hugely expensive, high-quality parts such as the, previously mentioned HKS forged rods, CP forged pistons (rated for 900bhp), HKS head gasket, Kelford TX272 cams, I.D 1000cc injectors, Skunk inlet manifold, Precision 5858 full frame turbo kit, Perrin intercooler, the list goes on. If the full 603bhp is a bit much (reportedly never used), its low-boost setting is at 1.6-bar generating 500bhp, switchable on the intercooler spray button. It’s fitted with four matching Toyo Proxes (matching tyres are required on this car due to the four-wheel drive system), as well as uprated hook brake discs, Tein coil-over suspension, a White Line rear anti-roll bar and a boot brace. The history file is excellent, containing a smorgasbord of invoices for servicing, maintenance, and parts, as well as its original service book, book packs, and the all-important Certificate of Authenticity from Ralliart confirming that this is #5 FQ-400.This rare and desirable FQ-400 is delightfully standard looking yet packs the most vicious bite. With FQ-400s so rarely seeing the open marketplace and examples trading for well in excess of £60,000, this very useable and capable early example is potentially the last time you will be able to find one at such agreeable money.SpecificationMake: MITSUBISHIModel: EVO VIII MR FQ-400Year: 2004Chassis Number: CT9A0303707Registration Number: A460 EVOTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 4G639166Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 50700 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey Alcantara/LeatherClick here for more details and images

One of only 400 Defender 90 Heritage Hardtop models produced and less than 30 miles from new.Following the successful reception of the all-new Land Rover Discovery model in 1989, it was decided to give the traditional Land Rover its own name: Defender. Marking this as more than merely a re-branding exercise, was the introduction of a new turbo diesel engine that brought with it useful increases in maximum power, torque and fuel economy when compared to the old normally aspirated power unit. Now boasting bold 'Defender' logos, the Land Rover continued its seemingly inexorable process of development, gaining disc brakes and power-assisted steering as standard during the 1990s together with a host of other improvements.Despite, or perhaps because of, being recognisably related to the very first Land Rover of 1948, the Defender retained a steadfastly loyal customer base indeed in the UK in 2013 it even managed to out-sell the Range Rover. The incremental improvements mentioned above would continue to be made regularly until production of the traditional Land Rover Defender ceased in January 2016.Over the years, there have been countless Special Editions, one of the last being the 90 Heritage Hardtop of which only 400 were produced. The Heritage Hardtop had been introduced to celebrate almost 68 years of production and the ending of Defender manufacture in January 2016 and boasted many special features including Grasmere Green paintwork – used for the original, or so the story goes, because there were abundant supplies of this military-specification paint available. The Heritage also featured a black square on the wing with 'HUE 166' picked out in white lettering, referencing the registration of the first pre-production Land Rover. Other special features included the classic 'lightning bolt' Land Rover badge, the Heritage-style front grille, mud flaps, colour-matched wheels and a white roof. Of the two versions produced - Station Wagon and Hardtop - the latter, as seen here, is the rarer. One of the last Defenders off the production line, this very collectable 90 Heritage Hardtop has covered fewer than 30 miles in total and is presented in effectively 'as new' condition. The car was purchased from Land Rover Chesterfield, driven the 26 miles back to our vendors premises and put on display in the heated showroom. Supplied with the dealer presentation book (not always given to potential buyers) and offered with a V5C Registration Certificate, YS65 CVD represents a wonderful opportunity to own a pristine example of the model that brought the curtain down on 68 years of Defender production.SpecificationMake: LAND ROVERModel: DEFENDER HARD TOPYear: 2016Chassis Number: SALLDWNP7GA487792Registration Number: YS65 CVDTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 1511170823929DT224Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 26 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

An ex-RAF Wolf Defender restored and upgraded to a unique specification for the 'urbane warrior' that appreciates both quilted leather and entrenching tools. The Wolf, based on the Defender 90 and 110 Defender, was introduced in 1994 but it took two years of testing, rejection, upgrading and further testing before the Ministry of Defence was satisfied. It was far stronger and more reliable than the standard car on which it was based as a result. An order for some 8,000 Wolf Defenders was placed in 1996 by the Ministry of Defence at a cost of some £40,000 each for the basic Wolf. Some 97 variants were produced and they included the Air Drop, Ambulance, Helicopter Support Platform, Tropical Field Ambulance, Waterised Weapons Mounted Installation Kit and Winterised/Waterproofed Field AmbulanceThe Wolf’s mechanical list is extensive but, in brief, it featured a 113bhp, 300TDi engine with no electronics except for the fuel pump solenoid, rust proofed chassis from new, gearbox cooling system, reinforced front bulkhead, rails and sills, reinforced Salisbury rear axle and standard reinforced front axle with uprated differentials. It's not known how many Ministry of Defence Wolf Defenders were scrapped due to combat damage or quietly sold to foreign armies and NGOs, but most open topped 'canvas tilt' Defenders rarely survived Army use and Royal Navy cars suffered from their proximity to the sea. Far outnumbered in production by their hard-topped siblings, the canvas backed Wolf rarely saw domestic service as the hard top was better suited to the British weather and most were therefore in left-hand drive for overseas use. This 90 Wolf was originally registered in 1997 to the Ministry of Defence and used by the Royal Air Force, bearing the military registration mark KA71AA. We are informed it was stationed in various regions within the UK and the odometer reading, (in kilometres, like all Wolf Defenders), of 117,000km, suggests that the Wolf traversed nothing more arduous than the occasional 'cat's eye' or a motorway rumble strip, whilst being maintained by the diligent technicians on base. Upon decommissioning, it was registered to the first of two civilian keepers on the 1st January 2020, later undergoing a significant programme of works to such a high standard that this Wolf has been likened to a former SAS trooper tailored by Armani, stylish but still capable.Finished in metallic grey with high quality fixtures, the interior is trimmed in quilted black leather with contrasting stitching, polished metal accents and the front seats are heated. The black canvas tilt is lined in cream cloth whilst the rear features high quality woodwork upon which the two quilted leather bench seats for four sit. The front doors are a unique combination of period and luxury and the entrenching tools are a wry nod to the car’s history and capability.Presented to auction with its V5C, an advisory free MOT valid until July 2023 and records of its interesting history, this Wolf is more than just a “tarted up” Defender. It offers a unique opportunity to own a high-quality, luxuriously appointed Land Rover that was built to defend this country.SpecificationMake: LAND ROVERModel: DEFENDER 90Year: 1997Chassis Number: SALLDAA67VA122585Registration Number: R943 VSMTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 25L02599A Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 115100 KMMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

UK-supplied (C16), RHD, manual gearbox car with the ‘X50’ factory-fitted performance upgrade (450bhp with different turbos, intercoolers, ECU tune and reinforced gearbox). Porsche GB R8 2021 Concours Winner with a full and comprehensive service history. When the 996 was launched, it was greeted with almost universal praise, and heralded by most people who knew what they were talking about, as the best sorted and most usable 911 that had ever carried the badge. Richard Hammond was effusive about the 996, describing it as 'visceral and exciting'. Tiff Needell said it was 'better in almost every way' than the 993, offering a driving experience that was 'second to none'.The 996 introduced the PSM electronic stability control system, which helped four-wheel drive models harness their power and lay it down with more control than in any previous 911. As with earlier iterations, power outputs in the desirable and pricey Turbo or Turbo S versions were significantly higher – north of 400bhp in the later 3.6-litre cars and gearbox options were of the manual 6-speed or 5-speed Tiptronic variety. In 2002, Porsche introduced the Turbo ‘X50’ option, which included larger turbochargers and intercoolers along with revised engine control software and a reinforced gearbox. The X50 increased power to 450bhp and torque to 610Nm, offering an impressive 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds. Where other 996s suffered both physically and reputationally from a somewhat over-hyped propensity to eat their own engines in a catastrophic and terminal fashion, the Turbo, GT2 and GT3 variants all came with the legendary - and trouble-free - ‘Mezger’ engine derived from various 1970s racers and the later 911 GT1.The car presented here is a C16, UK-market 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo (factory-fitted) X50, with the ‘one-to-have’ manual gearbox, fastidiously maintained and highly specified (sunroof, BOSE hi-fi, climate control, heated seats, rear wiper, 6-CD player, original PCM 2.0 satellite navigation, aluminium handbrake and gear knob). In striking and rare Polar Silver Metallic with black leather trim and Porsche crest-embossed headrests, its aesthetic matches it performance. With just 57,000 miles (a mere 3,500 dry-weather miles covered in the last 10 years) supported by a full and comprehensive service history with a folder of receipts, our vendor describes the car as "immaculate" and Porsche Club GB agreed, awarding it 'R8 Concours Winner' in 2021 - no small feat indeed! To illustrate this, the alloy wheels are unmarked, belying its mileage, fitted with new Pirelli Zero tyres, plus recently new brake discs/pads. The A/C condensers and front radiators have been replaced, which is a common issue with this model. It also benefits from the desirable addition of a Porsche OEM quick-shifter gear mechanism (the original unit will accompany the car). With two keys, a complete and original book-pack and the majority of old MOT Certificates present, this is an exceptional example of its type which has been freshly serviced and MOT'd (until 29th January 2024) ready for sale.Service History summary:· 04/11/2004 – Porsche Centre, Wilmslow – 11,870 miles· 03/11/2005 – Porsche Centre, Wilmslow – 23,563 miles· 07/11/2006 – Porsche Centre, Wilmslow – 32,498 miles· 14/04/2008 – Porsche Centre, Wilmslow – 40,274 miles· 05/05/2010 – Porsche Centre, Wilmslow – 45,344 miles· 16/01/2012 – RSJ Sports Cars, Slough – 54,350 miles· 01/03/2013 – Porsche & Euro, Barnsley – 55,132 miles· 11/04/2014 – Porsche & Euro, Barnsley – 55,759 miles· 08/08/2015 – Zentrum Porsche Specialist, Mansfield – 56,142 miles· 31/08/2016 – Zentrum Porsche Specialist, Mansfield – 56,323 miles· 26/09/2018 – Zentrum Porsche Specialist, Mansfield – 56,544 miles· 30/09/2020 – Zentrum Porsche Specialist, Mansfield – 56,815 miles· 17/09/2020 – Cavendish Porsche Specialist, Long Eaton – 57,343 milesX50 examples are fairly rare - certainly in this sort of condition - and this is a great opportunity to own one of the best available, offering ‘supercar performance’, with a manual-shifting gearbox, in arguably the most desirable colour combination, this modern-classic Porsche warrants proper attention.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 996 TURBO X50 MANUALYear: 2003Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ99Z4S680271Registration Number: MX53 YTPTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 64430724 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 57714 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black Click here for more details and images

A genuine, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 2.4T raced extensively since the late eighties and benefitting from massive expenditure over the years including a Bob Watson 2.7, 250bhp, RSR-spec, MFI power unit. A superb, quick, great handling early 911 racer/road car offering great value for money. The first of countless upgrades to the perennial 911 came in 1966, two years after production had commenced, with the introduction of the 911S. Easily distinguishable by its stylish Fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels, the 'S' featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp. In 1967, the 911T (Touring) was introduced as a new base model, initially with the 2.0-litre engine in 110bhp form before gaining the 2.2-litre unit along with the rest of the range in 1969, at which point the 911's wheelbase had been extended by 57mm to tame the occasionally wayward handling. By this time, the models on offer had stabilised at three: the entry-level 911T, middle-ranking 911E and top-of-the-range 911S, all of which were available as either a closed coupé or Targa convertible. With the 2.2-litre engine's arrival, a common type of cylinder head was adopted, the differing power outputs being determined principally by valve timing rather than valve sizes as had been the case hitherto. In 1972 all 911 variants received the 2,341cc (nominally 2.4-litre) unit, which in 'T' specification produced a maximum of 130bhp, the same output as the original 911 of 1963.According to its accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this smart, original right-hand drive 911T was completed on 01/02/1972, finished in silver metallic (8080) with a black leatherette/Dogtooth inserts interior and optioned with sport seats, rear wiper and tinted windows before being despatched to Porsche Cars GB and subsequently UK-registered as PGC 689K.David Lees, one of the previous keepers of the T, successfully raced a 911E for Parr Motorsport (47 KOC) and some time later was looking for another one and that search resulted in PGC 689K, then a road car, being selected. It was subsequently built up to race spec and he continued racing this car successfully for Parr Motorsport with many wins and a significant second place in a big grid at the 1989 PCGB Party. David Lees duly retired and Parrs rebuilt the car for Rupert Bullock (there is a detailed invoice for £23,000 in the file) who very quickly passed it on to Liam Dowling over in Ireland who again had great success with PGC (lots of further detail in the file). During his ownership, the legendary Bob Watson was commissioned to rebuild the engine to 2.7 RSR-spec (over £20,000 in the 1990s!) and, running mechanical fuel-injection, the Dyno report in the file indicates an impressive output of just over 250bhp; very competitive in 911 club racing. The nicely bound history file contains dozens of photographs of the car at various circuits/events throughout the period, lots of invoices for parts and works completed, correspondence and a fairly comprehensive list of previous keepers. More recently, it has benefited from all new brakes, an engine/fuel injection service, new clutch just fitted at Pro 9, new Rennsport Recaros and the rare 7/8" Fuchs alloys have been refurbished. There are a couple of recent invoices from Stuttgart Classica totalling around £7,000.Now on the button, this fabulous 911 with its huge history is on the market for the first time in a while. It's a fast, early UK-RHD 911 in a great colour, offering a powerful RSR-spec engine with great handling and, in the right hands, will continue to be competitive for years to come. It appears very attractively guided considering its specification and provenance and we welcome and encourage you to come along to Race Retro and have a look for yourself.      SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911T 2.4Year: 1972Chassis Number: 9112500845Registration Number: PGC 689KTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 6220842Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Not to be confused with Jaguar-Sport, the JaguarSport  XJR-S was a unique, 6-litre XJR developed jointly by Jaguar and TWR. Only 115 right-hand drive cars were built and this is undoubtedly one of the best.Offered here is the final evolution of the Jaguar XJ-S, hand-built at JaguarSport in Kidlington by the TWR engineers who had worked on the XJ220. Launched in 1988, JaguarSport  was a 50/50 joint venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw’s TWR (not to be confused with Jaguar-Sport), a relationship that had begun with the famous TWR-prepared XJS that dominated Touring Cars in the 1980s. The JaguarSport  XJR-S may have looked similar to their production counterparts but differed immensely with many parts unique to the model and, of course, its 6.0-litre V12 engine. The engine was rated at 318bhp and was 700cc larger than the previous 5.3-litre V12. A modified intake system, Zytek engine management and a low-loss true dual exhaust system were part of the car’s advanced specification. The Hydramatic GM400 was modified with different 'changing points' to better suit the 6-litre car and a Salisbury limited-slip differential was standard. The suspension was further developed by TWR with increased coil spring rates and the Bilstein shocks, front and rear, were specially tuned for the XJR-S.Externally, the cars were modified with a subtly aggressive body kit, 16" 'Speedline' aerodynamic wheels and host of modifications inside included a bespoke Connolly Autolux leather interior and the steering wheel was made for JaguarSport by Momo of Milan. They were normally built to order with cars being transported from Browns Lane to Kidlington to be hand-finished. At £45,500, it was £11,000 more than the 5.3 which explains why a little over 500 were made (115 in RHD) before production stopped in 1993 making them highly sought-after today.Originally supplied by Appleyards in Ripon, this exceptional 1990 XJR-S was sourced by the present ‘titled’ owner after purchasing Tom Walkinshaw's (TWR) very first 6.0-litre many years ago. He sold it to an employee on the proviso that he could have first refusal to repurchase should it ever become available, however that agreement was never honoured, and the Jaguar was sold elsewhere resulting in a long drawn out search to find the perfect replacement, with the car on offer here today being the reward. Presented in Solent Blue over Saville Grey leather piped in Isis Blue and in superb and original condition throughout, the Jaguar has covered less than 40,000 miles from new and is accompanied by all the original documents including the service pack. These are rare cars and not to be confused with the cars from Jaguar-Sport or individual TWR cars. With only 115 right-hand drive JaguarSport  XJR-S ever built and probably less than half that number remaining, this delightful, low mileage example deserves your consideration. SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: XJR.SYear: 1990Chassis Number: SAJJSAES3BB164145Registration Number: G669 NBTTransmission: AutoEngine Number: 8W010062HBDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 39517 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Saville Grey Hide piped Isis BlueClick here for more details and images

On offer from the Piddington Collection. The last Elan Sprint to be UK-registered and possibly the best Fixed Head Coupé in existence. The glassfibre-bodied Elan may only have been available initially as a Roadster Kit but its specification was very advanced and adhered to Chapman's 'just add lightness' engineering philosophy. Power came from Harry Mundy's Ford-based Lotus 1,558cc DOHC engine. It was fitted with disc brakes all round, and the independent suspension was set up to optimise ride quality and handling finesse; qualities for which this little car is still admired. It soon sired other derivatives including the Type 26R racer, the Type 36 fixed-head coupe the Type 45 drop-head coupe, and the Type 50 Elan +2 of 1967.The 1971 Elan Sprint was essentially based on the Series 4 Elan bodyshell and was primarily designed to rekindle demand and improve the performance of the nine-year-old sports car. Conceived by Lotus Sales Director, Graham Arnold, the Sprint's most notable feature was the horizontally-split two-tone paintwork echoing the livery of the Gold Leaf Team Lotus Formula One cars. Meanwhile, providing the 'go to match the show', a new big-valve cylinder head with high-lift cams and a raised compression ratio (the work of Engineering Director Tony Rudd) provided a 25% increase in power to 126bhp. The drivetrain was suitably toughened and braced and the front callipers were redesigned to cope with the increased performance.LRP 301P was originally supplied by Lotus in kit form to the Ken Myers Partnership who, at that time, were Lotus Main Dealers in Wellingborough Road in Northampton. Ken had planned to build the car as a present for his son Neil on his 18th Birthday but, for some reason, this never happened and consequently, when the car was finished, it was sold to a husband and wife who were both doctors and had been waiting for some time for a new Sprint. They obviously loved their little Elan as they kept it for 39 years until 2014 when it was acquired by our vendor. In common with all the Elans in this fabulous collection, the car was entrusted to the well respected team of Ken and Neil Myers (in this case the car's original builders), to commence a full body-off, restoration to standards that our vendor describes as "beyond Concours". Pleasingly the chassis, body and engine are all original and the car was re-finished in its original Sprint colours of Carnival Red and Cirrus White with Gold Lacquer front and rear bumpers, low-gloss black wheels with stainless 'Rimbellishers' and gold sidewinder decals. The results are simply spectacular with the car being described by a well known marque expert as "Probably the best FHC Sprint in the world".We understand that after completion of the two-year restoration, the Lotus was started and fully checked before being popped into its heated, carpeted garage where it has remained and has never been driven on the road. Interested parties are encouraged to view this exceptional motor car to appreciate the sheer quality on offer. The car is accompanied by an original Elan tool kit and an interesting history file with hundreds of photographs, an MOT history, old MOTs, V5s etc, lots of interesting correspondence (our vendor owned the whole Collection), an Owners Handbook, an Elan 4 Service Book, an Elan Sprint brochure and more.      SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELAN SPRINTYear: 1975Chassis Number: 72100565ERegistration Number: LRP 301PTransmission: ManualEngine Number: N28137Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 35982 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details and images

On offer from the Piddington Collection, formerly the property of Ron Hickman, the South African-born, Jersey-based automobile designer and inventor responsible for the original Elan, the +2 and the Europa but best known for creating the Black and Decker 'Workmate'.Ron Hickman grew up in Greytown in Natal province, South Africa and from an early age he was passionate about motor cars, carving models of them in wood and sketching them for their owners. On leaving school, he trained in law for six years in the Department of Justice but retained an ambition to style cars that could not be realised in South Africa. So in 1954, he borrowed £100 from his father and set off for London. He soon found a job with Ford in Dagenham as a clay modeller in the styling department and seven months later he became a stylist on the 105E Anglia. In 1956, Hickman, whose ambitions lay beyond styling 'worthy' saloons for Ford, 'bumped into' Lotus founder Colin Chapman at the Earls Court Motor Show. As we know, Chapman was a brilliantly gifted engineer whose early competition cars were enjoying success but he was in need of ingenious, energetic characters such as Ron to help get his ambitious new Elite road car into production. Brought in as a production engineer with Lotus in North London, Ron became a general manager and eventually a director, however, the Elite proved to be a false start. It was beautiful to look at and drive but too complicated to build and too frail in service to have the mass appeal Chapman was looking for. Something more practical was needed. The Elan, introduced in 1962, is arguably the finest of Chapman's road cars and it was Hickman, working alongside John Frayling, who got it into production. The car skilfully blended Grand Prix-inspired engineering finesse – ultra-stiff backbone chassis, all-independent suspension, disc brakes and a lusty twin overhead camshaft engine – with off-the-shelf components from the parts bins of the big manufacturers. This approach saved money and simplified production, the Elan's engine block was borrowed from the Ford Classic and the steering rack from the prosaic Triumph Herald; yet this tiny 1600cc two-seater was so light and perfectly balanced that it could accelerate as quickly as Jaguar's current E-Type.The Elan, with Hickman's light uni-mould glass-fibre body, brought the thrills of single-seat racing car handling to the road driver who could muster £1,200, or less if he built it from a kit. Its handling is still unsurpassed and the backbone chassis, conceived by Hickman as a temporary measure for developing the car's suspension, formed the basis of every subsequent Lotus of the classic era. As well as devising the car's famous vacuum-operated pop-up headlamps and its distinctive bumpers, Hickman is attributed with having come up with its name – by looking through the ‘E’ section of the dictionary.Ron left Lotus in 1967 to start his own design company and develop the 'Workmate'. Black & Decker eventually signed an exclusive manufacturing deal in 1972 for his Mark II version, with a lightweight foldable alloy frame so it could be stowed in the boot of a car, but by then Hickman had already sold 14,000 Workmates by mail order. Even with a comparatively low 3% royalty, Hickman soon joined the tax-exile bracket, moving in 1977 to Jersey, where he built a modernist villa with views of St Brelade's Bay and filled it with his own labour-saving gadgets. In 1994 he was honoured with an OBE.This gorgeous Lagoon Blue Sprint DHC, KXC 67F, was purchased directly by Ron on 27th November 1996 in its currently restored state from the restorer Neil Myers, shipped to Jersey, popped into Ron’s garage and only used occasionally. It must have felt rather special to open his garage doors and see two of his creations, the Elan and the Workmate side by side knowing that both had received worldwide acclaim. The car was purchased from the Hickman family by our vendor on the 9th March 2021 and, although it remained exactly as it was post-restoration, it was given a very light recommission by Neil Myers upon its return to the UK and prior to joining the Piddington Collection. In common with the other Elans on offer today, KXC 67F retains its original chassis, body and engine and naturally your inspection of this important Elan is welcomed. It's accompanied an original Elan tool kit, Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, spare keys, 2 copies of the Elan Sprint Owners Handbook, lots of photographs and acres of interesting correspondence, as you might expect from the man who designed the Elan. On offer from the Piddington Collection. This S4 Coupé is particularly special as it was presented to Jochen Rindt by Colin Chapman at Hockenheim in August 1970 after his win in the Lotus 72 at that year's German Grand Prix. It was to be his final win prior to his untimely death at Monza a few weeks later.62 Grand Prix entries, ten Pole Positions, six Grand Prix wins and one World Championship. As is often the way, the simple facts can look a bit dry but nothing could be further from the truth. In the record books he is notable for being the only posthumous World Champion but, before his untimely demise, Karl Jochen Rindt left a very individual mark on the world of Grand Prix Racing. Few had such an appetite for raw racing and threw themselves into the fray with such determination. His driving style was exuberant, completely at home sliding a lumpy old Cooper-Maserati around Monaco or dancing a nimble F2 Brabham through the chicane at Thruxton. That rough and tumble, extrovert allure continued outside of the car where he was a colourful and amusing character. His distinctive looks, wild hair and stylish dress sense combined with his stunning Finnish wife, Nina, epitomised the Grand Prix paddock’s ‘beautiful people’ of the late sixties.Rindt’s first win of 1970, indeed the greatest of his short career, came at Monaco in the outdated Lotus 49, the new 72 model not yet being raceworthy. After languishing in fifth place for much of the race, the retirement of others promoted Rindt to runner-up, 15 seconds behind Jack Brabham driving one of his own cars. Scenting a whiff of victory, Rindt then proceeded to reel in the race leader by means of a thrilling, even frightening, charge that mesmerised all who saw it, including Brabham himself. Totally capable of smooth controlled driving, in this case Rindt was on the ragged edge breaking the lap record time after time. For the veteran Brabham, the sight of the wildly oversteering Lotus looming ever closer in his mirrors proved such a distraction that on the last corner of the last lap, he was the one that crashed into the barriers. Later in the season a string of four consecutive victories at the Dutch, French, British and German Grand Prix meant that Jochen now topped the World Championship table. It was immediately after the German Grand Prix on the 2nd of August that Colin Chapman presented Jochen with this French Blue, left-hand drive Elan S4 FHC for his personal use. His enjoyment of the car was to be short-lived, however, as tragically he was killed as a result of mechanical failure during practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza just over a month later. A combination of factors meant that his points total was never beaten and he was awarded the World Championship posthumously. In common with all the Elans in this fabulous collection, NVG 853H was entrusted to the well respected team of Ken and Neil Myers to commence a full, body-off, long-term restoration to their normal remarkable standards. As always, the brief was to retain as much of the original car as possible including the chassis, body and engine and resplendent in its original French Blue, this immaculate little S4 looks almost ‘showroom fresh’.The odometer currently indicates 80,652km but given the Myers family's pursuit of perfection during the rebuild, it’s rather academic. This will always be ‘The Jochen Rindt Elan’ and it’s to our vendor’s credit that he has chosen to present this car to this standard as a tribute to one of Grand Prix Racing’s most charismatic characters. The car is accompanied by an original Elan tool kit, a Certificate of Vehicle Provenance (J Rindt), a Vehicle Inspection Report, Registration Documents, lots of correspondence, dozens of original photos of Rindt, Chapman, the cars and the handover of this Elan to Jochen, period magazines all Jochen-related old programmes, Lotus colour charts, price lists etc., books - Jochen Rindt by Heinz Pruller, Uncrowned King of Formula One by David Tremayne, The Lotus Elan and Europa by John Bolster-and much more. SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELAN 'JOCHEN RINDT'Year: 1969Chassis Number: 700102003FRegistration Number: NVG 853HTransmission: ManualEngine Number: C21607Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 80652 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details and images

On offer from the Piddington Collection. After filming Series 5 and 6 of The Avengers, the Television Company gave this super little S3 Drophead to Diana Rigg who played Emma Peel in 51 episodes of the long-running British TV series. The Avengers was a spy-fi British television series set in 1960s Britain and focused initially on the exploits of Dr. David Keel (Ian Hendry) and his assistant John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Hendry left after the first series and Steed became the main character, partnered by a succession of intelligent, stylish and assertive female assistants with Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) and later, Tara King (Linda Thorson), all becoming household names at the time. Later episodes increasingly incorporated elements of science fiction, fantasy, parody and classic British eccentricity becoming a little weirder as the years went by. The Avengers ran from 1961 until 1969, screening as one-hour episodes its entire run and, in the end, had been shown in over 90 countries. The late Diana Rigg joined for Series 4 and took part in 51 episodes leaving after Series 6. During Series 4, she was often seen driving a Cirrus White Elan S2 (HNK 999C) however that was returned to Lotus (subsequently becoming the property of a director’s wife) and for Series 5 (the first in colour), an early production S3 was offered by Lotus for the series which had started to become popular in the US with obvious marketing benefits. The car is often described as an S3-SE but is, in fact, a high-spec standard pre-airflow car with the four bolt-crank, rope seal and blue cam-cover engine. It was, however, fitted with knock-on wheels and polished sill trims similar to the SE. It was finished from new in Jaguar Opalescent Blue and has been faithfully repainted in the correct shade during its recent restoration. SJH 499D featured in 19 episodes and at the end of Series 6 the car was gifted to Diana Rigg by the TV production company, ABC Television, we imagine with some support from Lotus who had undoubtedly benefited from the little car’s worldwide fame. She wasn’t really a keen driver at the time (she only learned to drive for the show) and shortly afterwards gave the Elan to a friend. At this point, SJH 499D commenced its international travels as Diana’s friend sold the car a few years later to her sister who lived in America. It was subsequently purchased by Peter Nelson’s ‘Cars of the Stars Museum’ in Keswick, returning to the UK and remaining there, amidst some exalted company, until it closed in 2011. The world of ‘Movie Cars’ is quite small and Florida-based, Michael Dezer, acted very quickly to secure this Elan (along with most of the other Keswick cars) for his Dezer Collection at the Miami Auto Museum so. For the third time, SJH 499D traversed the Atlantic. That same level of tenacity was exhibited by our Northamptonshire vendor who managed to persuade Michael Dezer to part with the Emma Peel car in 2013 and, once again, the Opalescent Blue S3 confirmed its ‘frequent flyer’ status and returned to the UK.In common with all the Elans in this fabulous collection, the car was entrusted to the well respected team of Ken and Neil Myers to commence a full, body-off, long-term restoration to their normal remarkable standards. Pleasingly the chassis, body and engine are all original as are the black leather seats that were fitted when the car was new. A Westminster radio transceiver was also sourced and fitted into the glove box to recreate those ‘Avengers’ moments when Peel contacted Steed. The Elan has an indicated mileage of 2,552 which may well be correct with its limited use on the film set and in three important Collections. Given its exposure over 19 episodes in a TV series that was viewed in over 90 countries and the fact that many of these episodes are still available to view today, we feel confident in suggesting that this is the most famous Lotus Elan in the world and appears very sensibly guided considering its spectacular condition and unrepeatable sixties movie star provenance. As well as an original Elan tool kit, the usual registration documentation, an extract from the factory Car Allocation records and correspondence from Lotus, SJH 499D is accompanied by a remarkable collection of Avengers memorabilia and we doubt if there is a larger collection anywhere. It includes 3 x VHS Tapes with appropriate details known as "The First Ever Episodes Collection", 12 DVDs with special pics entitled "The Avengers: The Complete 50th Anniversary Collection", a further 19 x DVD collection (digitally re-mastered) in a presentation box by De Wreckers, books; "Bowler Hats and Kinky Boots: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to "The Avengers"  by Michael Richardson, "Mrs Peel-We're Needed"  by Rodney Marshall, "The Avengers - A Celebration"  by Marcus Hearn, an LP with the Theme Music by the Laurie Johnson Orchestra, more books about Stars and their Cars, John Steed & Emma Peel Deluxe Talking Action Figures (unopened), Corgi 1/43rd model of the Elan in its box, lots of original photographs - some official press releases and lots that were taken by others on set - all unrepeatable.SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELAN S3Year: 1966Chassis Number: 456114Registration Number: SJH 499DTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 6768Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 2552 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Los 458

On offer from the Piddington Collection. Prepared for Grand Prix privateer and "the ultimate Gentleman Racer", R.R.C.'Rob' Walker, to commemorate Stirling Moss' legendary Monaco Grand Prix win in 1961 aboard the Rob Walker Racing Lotus 18. “A gentleman’s word is his bond, a firm handshake its seal” – and Robert Ramsay Campbell Walker was most definitely a gentleman. It said so in his passport!Johnnie Walker heir, Rob Walker, was the private owner of a Grand Prix team with the legendary Stirling Moss as his primary driver from 1958 until 1962. This duo, along with chief mechanic, Alf Francis, managed to post a number of victories, including the first-ever wins for Cooper (1958) and Lotus (1960) Grand Prix cars. He was the first, and almost certainly the last, private team owner to win a Formula One World Championship Grand Prix without ever building their own car. His team was also successful in many other levels of motorsport, including F2, F3, sports car racing and hill-climbs. In recognition of his Scottish roots, Rob painted his cars dark blue with a white roundel and stripe across the nose to echo the Scottish flag.He also had a successful dealership at Corsley near Warminster supplying Jaguars, Austins and MGs as well as Neville Trickett’s much-acclaimed Minisprint. It was through Rob Walker Garages that the first owner of JXF 20F ordered this bespoke Elan S3 DHC. It was an SE model and was specially finished in Rob Walker’s signature Ford Midnight Blue, we understand, to commemorate Stirling Moss’ legendary win at Monaco in 1961 aboard the Rob Walker Racing Lotus 18. Moss carried race number 20 on that day which is reflected in the ‘20’ in the Elan’s registration number. Our vendor bought the car a few years ago to add to the Piddington Collection directly from the original owners and naturally it was transferred to the care of Neil and Ken Myers for many months to be fully restored and returned, as close as possible, to the condition that it would have been in when it was collected from the RRC Garage at Corsley by its excited first owners. As with all the Piddington Cars, the chassis engine and bodywork are original and, although the odometer currently reads 58,371 miles, given the Myers family's pursuit of perfection during the rebuild, it’s rather academic. Within the history file there is a picture of JXF 20F from 1967 with the owner’s wife standing alongside. The sophisticated colour combination of Midnight Blue and black really suit the Elan, somehow elongating its pretty lines and this beautiful example is surely a car to keep forever.Supplied with the Elan are an original Elan tool kit, original Owners Handbook, Service Book, the current V5C, an early Irish logbook, an MOT from 13th June 1996, further previous MOTs, lots of original pics (mainly B/W), a Rob Walker DVD, Magazines - Motor Sport-Jan 1970, Autosport-May 19,1961, Playboy Magazine from June 1961 featuring RRC and the Stirling Moss book "All my Races".  SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELAN SE 'ROB WALKER'Year: 1968Chassis Number: 457415Registration Number: JFX 20FTransmission: ManualEngine Number: LP10851LBDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 58371 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details and images
