An aircraft undercarriage tail-wheel serial No. JF 133485, DRG D AHO 5048/2, fitted with a 4.95 x 3 1/2 "AERO" Static Conducting pneumatic tyre, a label attached states: "Mk. 2 Hurricane Rear Wheel". The wheel and tyre are mounted on a, believed to be unassociated, iron swivel/castoring mount. The famous Hawker Hurricane wartime fighter aircraft, which was so crucial for the success in the Battle of Britain, was fitted with the famed, magnificent sounding, Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 liquid-cooled engine. It was what is termed a tail-dragger aircraft, the majority of the mass being borne by the pair of retractable, under-wing, undercarriage legs with substantially larger wheels & tyres, whilst the rear wheel was non-retracting.
