A display replica of a circa 1920's Post Office Van with 11HP engine and forward & reverse gears.Painted wooden body with double opening rear doors and circular glass window panels. Opening doors to each side, interior drivers seat and lift up opening bonnet. 19" spoke wheels, independent front springs and leaf spring rear suspension. Electric start but battery needed.
WW2 RAF Battle of France Casualty Uniforms.A scarce grouping worn by Pilot Officer Norman Alastair Lloyd Smith a pilot with 235 Squadron who was shot down and killed on the 12th May 1940. Comprising: Service dress tunic. This with flat pilot wings, Pilot Officer rank lace and brass RAF buttons. Retaining tailors label of Austin Reed with ink name 'N.A.L.SMITH 28.6.38'. Overall condition is good, period repair to right sleeve and stitching fault to one armpit. ... Accompanied by RAF mess uniform. Jacket, waistcoat, overalls. The jacket with bullion pilot wings (slight moth). Overall GC. Accompanied by a small number of hand written note, discovered by the vendor in the pocket of the tunic. These dated February and March 1940 including receipt for a .38 revolver Pilot Officer Norman Alastair Lloyd Smith was commissioned into the RAF LG July 1938. Qualifying as a Pilot in May 1940 he was serving with 235 Squadron which operated the Bristol Blenheim. On the second day of the German Blitzkrieg on the 12th May he was briefed for a support operation over the Hague, the Squadron were jumped by BF109's of 4/JG27, Pilot Officer's smith aircraft was last seen with his starboard engine on fire and crashed into a field all three crew were killed.
Douglas M Rawlings (1921 2003) oil on board 'Landscape of the China Clay open mining works near St Austell, Cornwall, showing the engine house, Cornish Alps or white mountains of spoil heaped on the horizon', 120cm x 90 cm (128cm x 108cm including frame). signed 'Rawlings' set in a hardwood frame, Provenance; Exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art in 1956 and the Royal West of England Academy in 1957. Purchased shortly after the artists death, in June 2004 at the Bristol Guild Gallery, Park Street, Bristol. The back of the painting bears a sticker printed with the artists name and address in Clifton, Bristol.Douglas Rawlings was a Bristol painter born in 1921. He studied at the West of England College of Art, then part of the Royal West of England Academy. There was a retrospective of his work in Auckland, New Zealand in 2015. Works previously sold at auction include: Spatial Image I and II, (Bonham's 1995) and Clifton Down (2000).China Clay or Kaolin was traditionally used in the porcelain and paper industries and now has many other uses including in the manufacture of high quality paint. China Clay mining is one of the main industries of Cornwall. The Eden Project was created in a disused China Clay Pit. The Wheal Martyn Clay Works is a museum dedicated to China Clay in St Austell.
A 1979 Morris Marina coupé, registration number KVW 665V, chassis number ME2SKD254066, engine number 408295, pageant blue.This now very rare Marina coupé was originally supplied by Southern Motor & Aero Co Ltd and subsequently registered to its first owner a Mr Antony Eden on 9th December 1979.The Marina has covered a believed genuine 73,000 miles from new with a tan interior and sits on Wolfrace alloy wheels (original wheels are available). A 1981 TVR Tasmin 280i convertible, registration number RTT 764W, chassis number DH5202F1, engine number WPP1344-2, dark blue. The TVR Tasmin was a radical departure from previous TVR designs which were known for their curvaceous coupés and roadsters rather than the dramatic wedge shaped Tasmin. Initially available in coupé form from early 1980 with the roadster coming on stream later on in the year, this roadster is finished in dark blue with a contrasting cream/blue interior and black Targa soft top. The TVR has been well maintained by the previous and current owners with an extensive history file documenting works carried out including an engine rebuild 14,500 miles ago when the odometer was zeroed (previous recorded mileage 98,700) numerous other historical receipts and more recent bills for a new clutch cable, universal joints, track rod ends and lower ball joints. A 1964 Commer Cob 7cwt Series III van, registration number 978 TTA, chassis number B631888, engine number B631888, azure blue.The Commer Cob a Rootes Group model was a panel van based on the Hillman Husky estate. The first version of the lightweight commercial appeared in the 1950s. The Cob saw a steady development over its production with improvements to the engine, seating and bodywork through Series I II & III. This charming Series III Cob was originally supplied by Blue Star Garages Ltd, Axminster, Devon to its first owner a Mr W Newbury, a farmer from Colyton, Devon. The original order form is on file stating that Mr Newbury paid £452.8.2 plus an allowance of £20 for a part exchange. Mr Newbury retained the car for twenty years adding 20,000 miles to the odometer using the van to transport the odd calf to Axminster market. Mr Newbury?s daughter and son in law then owned the Cob for a short period before part exchanging it. The next custodian added a further 20,000 miles on the clock until our vendors father purchased the van in 2005 with 42,000 on the odometer. The Cob had been in storage for six or so years and required some recommissioning and repairs but was soon back on the road. Over the next 14 years the van was steadily improved but still retains an honest and genuine appearance which has been admired at local classic car events. A 1932 Austin 12/6 Harley saloon, registration number GW 7830, chassis number 11423, engine number 11444, black. This charming Austin 12 was in the custodianship of father and son William and Richard Gould from Staffordshire between 1964 & 2015, when our vendor purchased it. There are photographs on file of the Austin during restoration when the Gould?s owned the car. Since acquiring the Austin our vendor has undertaken some refurbishment including re-trimming the interior with new door cards, carpets and seat covering. The engine has had a new head gasket and re-cored radiator amongst other maintenance and sounded healthy on our inspection. A 1935 Austin 10/4 Lichfield saloon, registration number CMV 131, chassis number G72498, engine number IG23457, cream over black. This charming 10/4 saloon is presented in an original oily rag condition. On our inspection to take the catalogue photographs, the Austin started readily and sounded healthy. Recent recommissioning works carried out include the fitting of new king pins, bearings and shims and overhauling of the ignition system. The body is finished in black with a cream roof and the interior is trimmed in green leather which has a delightful original patina. Now ready to be used as is or restored as time and funds allow. A 1969 Lotus Elan Plus 2, registration number OVG 124J, carnival red. Introducted by Lotus in 1967 the Plus 2 was a move by Colin Chapman to elevate the Elan to a higher level. The new car had a longer wheelbase, chassis and true 2+2 seating. In period the car was advertised ?for the discerning motorist who requires renowned Lotus handling coupled to an attractive 2+2 body?. This it achieved in spades with the new body being very elegant and in some peoples eyes more attractive than the original. This beautifully presented Elan has been the subject of a full restoration to a high standard. Originally finished in white, the Elan was stripped to its gel coat and fully resprayed in a period correct Lotus carnival red. The interior is now finished in oatmeal rather than the original black and has been re-trimmed to a similar high standard as the body. The original chassis was retained having found to be in very good condition. Further noteworthy works carried out include a full engine rebuild to original specification, refurbished 5 speed gearbox, refurbished/rebuilt suspension and brakes, a new large capacity radiator has been installed, the exhaust is stainless steel and the Lotus sits on Mini-Lite style alloy centre lock wheels. All of this extensive refurbishment had resulted in a fine example, which has only covered approximately 100 miles since the restoration was completed two years ago.
