A WORKSPLATE "Flameproofed By The Hunslet Engine Co. Ltd Leeds. Loco No. 6664.1967". As carried by D2046, the BR Class 04 204 H.P. 0-6-0 diesel mechanical built at Doncaster, and emerging to traffic at North Blyth in December 1958. It was one of three locos treated with flameproofing by Hunslet fitters at Thornaby depot for use at the Teesport Oil Refinery. It was withdrawn from Thornaby on 3rd October 1971, and in May 1972 went to Gulf Oil Ltd at Waterston as their "No. 2". The refinery closed in 1997 but no further history of the locomotive is known. Rectangular cast brass, 101/2"x4", unrestored.

A TENDER-PLATE "London & North Eastern Railway 7296 Darlington Works 1944". As carried by a 4200 gallons tender attached to the LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 8310 "HARTEBEESTE" built at Darlington in 1944 and emerging to traffic on 19th June 1944. It became LNER 1009 from 2nd March 1946; BR 61009 from 18th April 1948. Latterly a Sheffield Darnall then Lincoln engine, it was withdrawn from there on 16th September 1962 and cut up by Cox and Danks of Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield in June 1964. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", polished and repainted.

The following three plates were purchased by the vendor from Nevers Depot in the late 1960's, and are from the same engine, an SNCF 2-8-2 built for general duties as part of the post-war reconstruction. Many lasted until the end of steam in the 1970's and a number are preserved. 141.R.409 was withdrawn in 1973. #11;#11;A French CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "S.N.C.F 141.R.409". Rectangular cast brass, 22"x121/4", with its top 'carrying-handle'. Face repainted only.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "72008". As carried by the BR Standard Class 6 'Clan' 4-6-2 "CLAN MACLEOD" built at Crewe under Order E480, emerging to traffic on 14th March 1952. A Carlisle Kingmoor engine all its life, it was finally withdrawn from there on 16th April 1966 and cut up by J. MacWilliam of Shettleston in June. The plate is face-repainted only.

A Midland Railway original gold leaf coat-of-arms transfer mounted on board. First printed in 1906, this was the Midland's final device. It adorned passenger and goods tender engines, two classes of tank engine used on the LTSR, and on the Burton & Ashby Light Railway tramcars. 25"x20". VGC.

A GWR cast-iron CABSIDE-NUMBERPLATE "4628". As carried by the 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in October 1942 under Lot 330 at a cost of £3,451. A longtime Gloucester engine, she moved to Worcester in 1961 and was withdrawn on 6th May 1964 after running 422,262 miles. She was cut up at Swindon in July. The cabside is face-polished only.

NAMEPLATE "EARL BALDWIN". This very attractive plate was carried by the GWR '4073 Castle' class 4-6-0 5063 built at Swindon in June 1937 under Lot 303, originally named "THORNBURY CASTLE". She cost £4,848 plus £924 for the 4000 gallons tender. She was renamed "EARL BALDWIN" after only a month. A longtime Worcester engine, she moved to Bath Road in 1954; Stafford Road in 1958, and finally Oxley in 1963 from where she was withdrawn in February 1965 after running 1,267,425 miles. She was cut up by John Cashmore Ltd, Great Bridge, Staffordshire. The nameplate is face-restored, 68" long and attractively mounted on a wooden display base which also carries a photograph of the engine, and descriptions. This nameplate is being sold with the entire proceeds going to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. Stanley Baldwin was a Director of the GWR 1908-17 but resigned upon becoming a Junior Lord of the Treasury, later Prime Minister 1923-4; 1924-9; 1935-7.

A Private-owner WAGONPLATE "Lincoln Wagon & Engine Co. Ld Owners 48996". Oval cast-iron, slightly convex, 111/4"x6", face-repainted only. This Company was formed in 1873 and taken over by the North Central Wagon Co. in the 1930's.

A WORKS NUMBERPLATE "L&NER 4658 Doncaster Works 1916". As carried by the ex GNR Class H3 2-6-0, GNR 1658, built at Doncaster as Works No.1474, emerging to traffic in December 1916. Designed by Gresley, these useful mixed traffic locos were confined solely to the Eastern and Scottish Regions. 1658 became LNER 4658 Class K2/2 from 10th May 1924; LNER 1748 from 17th November 1946, and BR 61748 from 30th April 1948. A longtime Boston engine, it was withdrawn from there on 22nd June 1959 and cut up by the Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Company at Wishaw in January 1960. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", polished and repainted.

A WORKSPLATE "LMS Built 1930 Horwich". As carried by the Class 4 (later Class 5) Stanier 'Crab' 2-6-0, LMS 13149, built under Lot 68. It became LMS 2846 in 1934, BR 42846 in 1948. Latterly a Saltley engine, it moved to Gorton in June 1961 from where it was withdrawn in September 1964 to be cut up by Cohens of Ickles, Rotherham in February 1965. Oval cast brass, 101/4"x6", and slightly convex as these 'Crab' plates were carried on the boiler. Face-polished and repainted only.

NAMEPLATE "LOCH SHEIL". This curved cast brass nameplate was carried by the ex GNR Class H3 2-6-0, GNR 1693, built by Kitson as Works No. 5343 and emerging to traffic in July 1921. It became LNER 4693 Class K2 from 18th May 1925; was named "LOCH SHEIL" in March 1933, and became LNER 1783 from 27th January 1946. Acquiring the BR number 61783 from 10th April 1948, it was a longtime Keith engine. Withdrawal came on 17th June 1959, from Keith and it was cut up by T.W. Ward at Wishaw in August 1959. The plate is 56", lightly face-polished and repainted only.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "45420" in totally ex-loco condition. As carried by the ex LMS Class 5 4-6-0, LMS 5420, built by Armstrong Whitworth as Works No.1475 in 1937. It became BR 45420, was latterly a Patricroft, Agecroft and Newton Heath engine, and was withdrawn in June 1968 to be cut up by Drapers of Hull by February 1969.

A GWR cast-iron CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "9633". As carried by the 8750 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in January 1946 under Lot 355 at a cost of £4,473. A longtime Newton Abbot engine, she moved to Exeter in 1961 and Duffryn Yard in 1962 from where she was withdrawn on 7th October 1963 after running 367,558 miles in service. She was cut up at Swindon. The plate is repainted.

A LNER Thompson brass locomotive whistle. Complete with its wheel, operating-lever, and base with four nuts. Attractively polished and mounted on a polished mahogany display plinth. This whistle was carried by LNER 1427, the J38 Class 0-6-0 built at Darlington, emerging to traffic on 30th March 1926. It was renumbered LNER 5923 from 24th November 1946; BR 65923 from 7th August 1948. A Dunfermline engine for most of its life, it was withdrawn on 29th December 1962 from there and cut up at Cowlairs Works in 1963.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "42399". As carried by the ex LMS Class 4P (later Class 4) 2-6-4T, LMS 2399, built at Derby in 1933 under Lot 101. Designed by Fowler, these useful tank engines worked on every region of British Railways mainly on secondary duties but occasionally performed well on expresses. 2399 became BR 42399, was a longtime Longsight engine, and was finally withdrawn in September 1960 to be cut up at Doncaster Works in November. The plate is in ex-loco condition.

A WORKSPLATE "Great Northern Railway Co. No.1369 Makers 1912 Doncaster". This fully-engraved brass worksplate was carried by the GNR Class J22 0-6-0, GNR 543, that emerged from Works in December 1912. These Gresley designed engines were employed on freight, local passenger, shunting and station pilot duties. GNR 543 became LNER 3543 Class J6 from September 1926; 4192 from December 1946; and BR 64192 from April 1949. A longtime New England engine, it was withdrawn in April 1960 and cut up in Doncaster Works in May. Oval, 12"x7", lightly polished and clearly stamped "543" and "4192" in the back. A very fine example.

A GWR cast-iron CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "7403". As carried by the 7400 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in August 1936 under Lot 307 at a cost of £2,333. She was experimentally fitted with flange-oilers to reduce the wheel wear on sharp curves. Initially a Stourbridge engine, she moved to Croes Newydd in 1937; spent short periods between 1939 and 1949 at Bala, Stafford Road, Wellington and Croes Newydd before becoming a longtime Croes Newydd engine 1949-60. In 1960 she moved to Severn Tunnel Junction, and was withdrawn in January 1964, to be cut up at Swindon. The plate is repainted.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "42827". As carried by the ex LMS Class 4 (later Class 5) Fowler 'Crab' 2-6-0, LMS 13127, built at Horwich in November 1929 under Lot 63. It became LMS 2827 in 1934; BR 42827. A longtime Saltley engine, it moved to Birkenhead in June 1964 from where it was withdrawn in August 1965 to be cut up by Birds of Long Marston in January 1906. The plate is unrestored.

An Isle of Wight Railway locomotive BUNKER PLATE "SOUTHERN RAILWAY" (erased but still visible) W.21". As carried by the ex LSWR 0-4-4T, LSWR 205, built at Nine Elms in September 1891 under Order K3. It went to the Isle of Wight in June 1921 becoming Class 02 W.21 "SANDOWN". A Ryde based engine all its life on the Isle of Wight, it was withdrawn in May 1966 and scrapped in Ryde Works by May 1967. Oval cast brass, 133/4"x73/4", face-polished and repainted. Isle of Wight locomotives only carried one of these SR cabside style plates, on the bunker.

A GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "6946". As carried by the '4900 Hall' Class 4-6-0 "HEATHERDEN HALL" built at Swindon in December 1942 under Lot 340 at a cost of £5,600 plus £1,408 for the Collett 4000 gallons tender. She was not named until March 1946 due to the shortage of brass in wartime. A longtime Cardiff Canton engine, she moved to Pontypool Road in 1958 and was withdrawn in June 1964 after running 779,808 miles in service. The Hall is part of Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. The plate is face-polished and repainted only.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "61051". As carried by the ex LNER B1 Class 4-6-0, LNER 1051, built by the North British Locomotive's Queens Park Works as Works No. 25807, emerging to traffic on 20th June 1946. It became BR E1051 from 31st January 1948; 61051 from 13th March 1950. A longtime Sheffield Darnall engine, it moved to Canklow in June 1963; and Langwith Junction in July 1965, from where it was withdrawn on 10th February 1966 going into Departmental Stock as No.31 immediately. It was finally withdrawn in March 1966 and cut up by Arnott Young, Parkgate and Rawmarsh in May. The plate is face-repainted only.

A French Railways aluminium CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "241.P.13". As carried by a SNCF standard gauge 4-cylinder De Glehn compound 4-8-2. It was built by Schneider at Le Creusot as Works No.4915 in 1947. The final design of passenger engine for all the heaviest expresses in the East Region, ahead of electrification. It was withdrawn in the 1960's. In ex-loco condition.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "48124". As carried by the ex LMS 8F 2-8-0 8124 built at Crewe in 1939 under Lot 149. It became BR 48124, was latterly a Kettering, Derby and Edge Hill engine, and finally withdrawn in May 1968 going into store at Carnforth. It was cut up by T.W. Ward of Killamarsh in October 1968. The plate is in ex-loco condition.

A WORKSPLATE "Dubs & Co. No. 3516 Glasgow Locomotive Works 1897". As carried by the LSWR '700 Goods' Class 0-6-0, LSWR 693, that emerged from Works in March 1897. Designed by Drummond, these locomotives were used mainly on freight and light duties. 693 became SR E693, then 693; was superheated in April 1926; and became BR 30693. A longtime Guildford engine, it was withdrawn in July 1961 and cut up in Eastleigh Works. Diamond cast brass, 131/2"x51/2", in ex-loco condition.

A WORKSPLATE "Yorkshire Engine Co. Limited No.2467 Meadow-Hall Works 1951 Sheffield". As carried by the GWR design 9400 Class 0-6-0PT 8474 that emerged from Works in October 1951 under Lot 385. A Llanelly engine all her life, she was withdrawn in May 1965 after running 206,950 miles in service. She was cut up by Birds of Swansea. Oval cast brass, 11"x6", face-polished only.

As carried by the LNER Peppercorn design K1 Class 2-6-0 built by the North British Locomotive's Queens Park Works as Works No.26617, emerging to traffic on 4th July 1949. Latterly a March, Stratford and Frodingham engine, it was withdrawn from there on 29th October 1963 and cut up by Bulwell Forest Wagon Works in July 1964. The plate is repainted.

A WORKSPLATE "North British Locomotive Coy. Ltd No.24789 Hyde Park Works Glasgow 1942". As carried by the LMS 8F 2-8-0, LMS 8206 built under Lot 155. It eventually became BR 48206, was latterly a Speke Junction; Widnes and Nuneaton engine; final withdrawal coming from Speke Junction in May 1968, to be cut up by T.W. Ward of Killamarsh in August. Circular cast brass, 73/4" diameter, in ex-loco condition.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "44382". As carried by the ex LMS Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0, LMS 4382, built by the North British Locomotive's Queens Park Works as Works No.23456 in 1926 under Lot 33, the first locomotive of the batch. A Midland Railway design, these useful locomotives were noted on all regions of British Railways usually hauling long rakes of mineral wagons. They were popularly known as "Duck Sixes". 4382 became BR 44382, was a longtime Stockport engine, and was withdrawn in November 1959 to be cut up at Horwich in March 1960. The plate is in ex-loco condition.
