An early nineteenth century brown and white transfer-printed Railway mug c. 1830-40. It is printed with a panoramic wrap-around of a railway engine, titled JACO with its coaches and cargo in a country landscape. It has added colours of green and red. 10 cm tall. (1)Condition: In good overall condition bar small chip to the inside rim.
A group of late eighteenth century blue and white transfer-printed chinoiserie wares, c.1795. To include: a miniature size Boy on a Buffalo pattern teapot and cover, a Boy on a Buffalo jug with and a Willow pattern jug, both with so-called engine turning and C-Scroll handles. Largest jug: 17 cm tall. (3)Condition: Three small chips to the teapot. Provenance: From the Jenkins Collection.
A George IV silver gilt snuff box, by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham 1827, engine turned and with guilloche engraving, 72 mm x 44 mm x 17 mm, 78 grams (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The snuffbox is in generally very good condition. There are no issues with the hinge and the lid closes as it should. There are no corner dents to the main body. The interior is in extremely good order also with no significant tarnishing.
A lady's gem-set 'St Petersburg' Tank Allongée gold wristwatch, by Cartier, the mini tank allongιe wristwatch designed with a rectangular engine-turned dial within buff-top sapphire sides, the square-shaped ruby and circular-cut emerald and sapphire bracelet with diamond detail and deployant clasp, quartz movement, calibre 028, numbered 280. 002, case 15mm, signed Cartier Paris, French control marks, numbered 663595 Accompanied by an insurance valuation from Cartier dated 2011. Accompanied by a receipt for servicing from Cartier dated 24 October 2018.
A French early 19th century devotional pendant by Jean Dampt, retailed by Cartier, designed as a reliquary, the case with engine-turn decoration with rose-cut diamond-set bale, the push piece with a ruby-set latin cross, opening to reveal a miniature figure of St Anthony of Padua, the figure base signed J Dampt. Sc, the cross numbered 34, inventory number 1598, rubbed marks to bale (possibly French control mark and maker's lozenge), 4.5cm high LITERATURE: Cf.: G. von Habsburg, Fabergι - Cartier: Rivalen am Zarenhof, Munich, 2004, p. 405, plate 854, for a similar example by Cartier.
An early 20th century decorative diamond-set gold presentation box by Cartier, c.1915, the central panel engraved with a Viscount's coronet in diamonds above diamond-set initials C-B-C, on engine-turned ground and decorated with the Browne-Clayton coat of arms, within a diamond-set border, the end panels are decorated with foliate and latticework set with diamonds, each hinged and opening to reveal a compartment, the central compartment opens to reveal a plaque with the inscription 'You abuse Snuff! Perhaps it is the final cause of the human nose' diamond borders and lattices to each side panel, set in platinum and yellow gold, French control marks and maker's lozenge, signed Cartier Paris Londres New York, 8.5cm long, 201g, in fitted Cartier leather case Provenance: Fromerly the property of Count Redmond Toler Clayton-Browne-Clayton 1863 - 1937 of The Villa La Punta, Cervara Santa Margherita, Liguria, Italy, to his sister Letitia Grace Clayton-Browne (d. 1937) wife of Sir William Henry Hornby (1st Baronet), thence by descent to Sir Henry Russell Hornby (2nd Baronet) and thence by descent to the current owner Count Redmond Toler Clayton-Browne-Clayton was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Son of Captain William Browne 7th Royal Fusiliers. Redmond re-claimed the title which had been awarded to one of his Irish forbears, Lt Gen Robert Browne, 12th Light Dragoons by Pope Pius VI in 1794. A picture of the award ceremony by James Northcote RA hangs in the V&A. It is a Papal title of the Holy Roman Empire. Redmond successfully petitioned Pope Pius X for its restoration.
