A 5 inch gauge, coal fired 2-(2-2)-2 tender engine (there has never been a standard gauge 2-4-2 tender engine). This one was scratch built by the late Malcolm Saggers, model engineer, ex BR & Bressingham Steam Museum driver. It is based on a very close approximation of a final design by Webb of a 2-(2-2)-2 uncoupled, 3 cylinder compound, built 1891-4 for use in the Crew-Carlisle area, 20 such engines were built, half with 7ft 1 inch drivers and the other half with 6ft 3 inch drivers. They were all withdrawn by 1912. The driving wheels of this example have been coupled, making it a 2-4-2. It has been finished in GER livery, and is named 'Raedwald', both in keeping with the late owner's association with local railways. The rear pony has also been changed for one with smaller wheels than the original design. It was in use by the late owner until his demise, but no boiler certificate is available. (Illus.)
