Los 107

A 1951 Riley RMD drop head coupé, registration number 318 XUU, old English white. Riley's RMD is a very rare beast, with only 502 being manufactured. The RM would be Riley's last model manufactured before they were taken over by BMC in 1952. They were built in the traditional manner with an independent chassis, timer framework and bespoke interiors. Developed just before WWII the 2.5 litre RM series engine produced 100 bhp from its signature twin cam which could trace its history back to the formidable Riley Nine of 1926. This RMD drop head coupé was imported from the United States by the vendor approximately ten years ago. On arrival he had the Riley thoroughly looked over with all necessary works carried out and an MOT was acquired. Since then the car has been used sparingly and for the last few years it has been in storage until recently when it was removed from its slumber and been running again. The vendor advises us that there are some jobs which could enhance the appearance of the car, such as re-chroming the bumpers and generally tidying the coachwork. The interior is finished in fawn West of England cloth with a wooden dashboard and door cappings, and a matching fawn double duck hood with chrome Laundelette type ironwork. This rare drop head coupé Riley will be offered for auction with a history file. V5C, MOT exempt See illustrations

He says that during that time the Morris has never needed to be restored and only maintained as necessary. He advises us that the body contains all of its original panels and has never been welded. The interior is also original and trimmed in red leather and the engine and gearbox are the original items. ***The underside is mainly original with some minor welding.*** The Morris is offered for auction with a history file containing the original workshop manuals ***but no various receipts or past MOTs***. V5C, MOT exempt See illustration

A 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster, registration number PTT 304, pastel green, continuous family history from 1958. This original Devon registered XK has a fascinating history. The vendor's father knew the car from new when it was delivered to A C Bulpin in Newton Abbot in 1953. As a twenty year old mechanic, the price on the windscreen was way beyond his means, but move on five years and one change of owner and the young Mr Harrison was able to seal the deal and become the proud owner of the XK. The vendor's involvement with the Jaguar began in 1961 when he returned home from hospital as a babe in arms in the XK. The vendor's father competed with the Jaguar at various hill climbs and sprints in period including Wiscombe where he won fastest time of the day in 1966. Around the same time the engine was changed for a hot 3.8 litre version with a lightened fly wheel, wide sump, competition clutch, balance crank and polished and ported head. With a new engine installed, an experimental Tecalamit fuel injection system was installed by Martin Motors Workshop near Haldon. This was quite a set up for the day and which the vendor's father said was excellent when working well improving low down torque, but had a tendency to oil its plug up at tickover and this became troublesome in traffic. With commitments and a lack of garage space, the decision was taken to lend the Jaguar to the Totnes Motor Museum where it remained for several years. Fast forward to the late 1970s and the vendor was now taking a keen interest in the car. He persuaded his father to remove the Jaguar from the museum and recommission it. At this time, the decision was taken to remove the fuel injection system and reinstate a twin two inch SU set up. During the 1980s storage became a problem again with the car moving from a rented garage to barn until the vendor started working for the World of Country Life Museum and the Jaguar found a new home as an exhibit when it was not being used by the vendor on rallies and road runs. During the 1990s, the Jaguar was resprayed in its original pastel green, new wire wheels with stainless steel spokes were fitted and a disc brake conversion was installed. The car is now presented in a good useable state with a well patternated original green leather interior and still sports the hot 3.8 litre racing engine. This well maintained XK comes to the market for the first time in over 58 years. RF60, V5C See illustrations

A 1949 Land Rover Series I 80 inch with a canvas tilt, registration number OTW 763, chassis number R8666445, bronze green. Little did Maurice Wilks, Rover's chief designer, know in 1947 when he came up with a plan to design a lightweight all terrain four wheel drive vehicle, inspired by the Willys Jeep, would he create a vehicle which would become an icon. This early lights behind grill example, from the second year of production, is finished in bronze green with a full canvas tilt and recently re-trimmed green vinyl seats. The Landy has been used on a small private estate since 2003 and has been maintained as necessary. The history file contains numerous receipts including repairs to the bulkhead, ***an engine repair (not an engine change)*** as well as general maintenance. Now only for sale due to an impending move, the Land Rover has a lovely used patina and is on the button ready for work. V5C, MOT and tax exempt See illustrations

Los 136

A 1947 Bentley Mk VI, registration number 627 BCA, two tone blue and grey. Bentley's Mk VI was their first post WWII model. Announced in May 1946 and in common with their Rolls-Royce sibling, they featured the standard steel sports saloon body. This fine example has formed part of a private Devon collection. Finished in a most attractive two tone colour scheme of blue with grey side panels and a contrasting beautifully patternated tan leather interior. Power is taken care of by the 4257cc straight six engine with F-Head mated to a manual gearbox, which endows the car with what Bentley and Rolls-Royce would describe as adequate. These early post war luxury saloons now offer tremendous value and this example coming from a true enthusiast should not be missed. V5C, MOT exempt See illustrations

The 1964 Wallace & Gromit 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit' promotional Austin A35 van, registration number ATK 117B, Preston green. Direct to the market from the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu 'Cars of the Stars Display' this unique A35 van is a one off vehicle built in conjunction with Aardman Animation and renowned Austineers Arme Brothers to promote Curse of the Were-Rabbit animated film. Prior to being on display at the National Motor Museum, the van has also been displayed in the Cotswold Motor Museum, and part of the Curse of the Were-Rabbit Aardman tour in Bristol, Wensleydale Dairies and Ashington Museum. It has also been seen as a celebrity photoshoot backdrop for the opening nights of the red carpet World Film Premiere event in Leicester Square, the Sky Regional Premiere in Manchester & Bristol, it was chosen to represent the Austin A30/A35 marque in the Birmingham Austin Centenary Parade, took part in the Film cars section, London 100 Years of Cars Parade from Park Lane to Whitehall, Lord Mayor's Show exhibited in Sheffield and on the Isle of Wight, it was used for promotional work at Harrods, Hamleys and Toys R Us, it appeared in a photoshoot in front of Buckingham Palace and numerous other promotional events. The van started out as a standard Austin A35 van with a 1098cc A-Series engine. The van was subjected to a five hundred hour complete restoration to bring the van up to show standard using new panels and mechanical components. During the process, dents were precisely applied to the panels before being sent for a bare metal respray in Preston Green, so named by Aardman and Mark Armé after the town Nick Park was born in. The van was then sent to an airbrush specialist to complete the signwriting and give the van its aged/distressed look to exactly replicate the van used in the film. The van was then subsequently unveiled at a ceremony arranged at the Aardman Studio which is documented in the book The Art of Wallace & Gromit. The van was used by Airfix to take all the measurements and drawings from to create their Curse of the Were-Rabbit model. As a gesture of thanks for using the van, the Airfix kit carries the van's original registration number ATK 117B as well as the show plate number HOP 21T. This is surely one of the most recognised and photographed vans to appear at auction recently and has just been featured on a front cover of Classic Car Weekly and offers an excellent opportunity to own a piece of film and automotive history. ***No V5C - the purchaser will need to apply for a new V5C**, no MOT See illustrations

A 1963 Lotus Super Seven S2 Cosworth, registration number 59 KBP, chassis number SB1686, engine number S243436, black/aluminium. The Lotus Seven has become a legend in its own lifetime. Colin Chapman designed the lightweight sports car with his philosophy of performance through low weight and simplicity. It was a very successful model for Lotus having a production run between 1957 and 1973 when the rights were sold to Caterham who still produce a version today. This car has had continuous ownership from May 1975 (purchase receipt on file for £690) until late 2016 when Mr Hanrott passed away suddenly, a remarkable forty plus years and is being offered direct from the estate. Mr Hanrott used the Lotus continuously over the years and there is an extensive history file accompanying the car with numerous receipts, magazine articles, brochures, past MOTs and an original workshop/owner's manual. Finished with an aluminium tub and black glassfibre nosecone, tail section and clam shell wings. The interior has black vinyl coverings, the dashboard is fitted with all original dials and black carpets are fitted. The weather gear consists of tonneau cover, side screens and hood. Mr Hanrott had fitted a non original rollbar and alloy wheels but retained the original steel spare. This Seven could have one of the longest continuous ownership histories of any Lotus and offers an opportunity to purchase a genuine S2 Lotus for the first time in over forty years. A 1973 Rover P5B Coupé, registration number LXC 9L, silver birch over arden green. Introduced in 1969, the P5B featured the new Buick derived 3.5 litre engine in the svelte coupé and saloon bodies. They found favour with government ministers, the business elite and even had royal patronage with the Queen owning an arden green saloon which George VI gave her soon after she started driving. As a coupé example, LXC 9L is the most sought after with its contrasting colour coded lower roof line, sculpted rear seats and chrome Rostyle wheels. This is presented in excellent condition with a tan leather interior which features the very rare front and rear headrests, having what some would say the best colour combination, this most fashionable of classic cars is possibly the best example to come up for auction recently.
