J. Craig Thorpe (American, B. 1948) "Montana Locomotive" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Fleetwood Legendary Locomotives of the 50 States Montana Commemorative Cover postmarked September 8, 1994. "The Wonderland Route to the Pacific Coast." That is how the Northern Pacific Railroad was touted on travel posters during its early days. The completion of this scenic line was witnessed by an estimated crowd of three thousand spectators on September 8, 1883, in Gold Creek, Montana. A bevy of cowboys, miners, soldiers, Indians and dignitaries, including former President Ulysses S. Grant and famed editors Joseph Pulitzer and Carl Schurz, were among those who gathered for this historic moment in railroad history. Henry Villard, president of the Northern Pacific (NP), opened the ceremony by eloquently stating that "long and hard tests of the power of human ingenuity and endurance in a mighty struggle of mechanical and manual forces against the direct obstacles of primitive nature" were behind the completion of this new rail link. After brief addresses by the Secretary of the Interior, the former president of the NP and Ulysses S. Grant, the final thousand feet of track was quickly laid by 300 workers. The last spike, the exact one that had been used when the first rails were laid at Carlton, Minnesota, 13 years earlier, was driven in by an NP passenger agent, Grant and Villard. This final act marked the completion of America's first northern through-route and the nation's second transcontinental railroad. The colorful No. 154 -- a typical Baldwin 4-4-0 type engine of the era -- was one of four locomotives to power trams to the ceremony. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 18 x 15 in. Unframed. Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "1935 Martin M-130" Signed lower left. Original Watercolor painting on Cold Press Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover of the Martin M-130 from the 100 Year of Powered Flight Collection. The M-130 was first flown in 1935, and came into being as a result of Pan American's great leader, Juan Trippe, demanding an aircraft that could make a profit flying from the United States to the Orient. Sikorsky offered its stylish S-42, but Martin won with the 41-passenger, four engine M-130, that was larger and cost $417,000, an enormous sum at the time. Martin had underbid, expecting a follow-on contract for several more, but in the end only three M-130s were built - the China Clipper, Hawaiian Clipper (later called the Hawaii Clipper) and Philippine Clipper. The first flight on the route between San Francisco and Manila took place in November 1935, and regular passenger service was initiated in October 1936. Image Size: 16.25 x 14 in. Stanley Paine (British, B. 1934) "Model T Ford" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Great Britain 19 1/2p Model T & Escort Ford stamp issued October 13, 1982. The Ford Model T, known affectionately as the "Tin Lizzie," was a simple, sturdy and utilitarian car. Like many of the people who owned it, it was also practical and hardworking. During the eighteen years, from 1909 through 1926, that the Model T was being produced, its share of the automobile industry's total output averaged an amazing 42.9 per cent. In six of those years, production of this classic car topped fifty per cent of total cars produced. The Model T was the car that introduced millions of Americans to the auto age, which in large part explains the folklore and nostalgia that surrounds this famous automobile. Many Americans can still remember their proud first day behind the wheel of their Model T. Countless photographs of parents and children posed around the Model T tell of its importance to the American family. Indeed, every owner had a favorite story to relate about the Model T and at least two home remedies telling how to start the car on a winter's morning. Some drivers put their cars up on blocks the moment the snow fell. The less thrifty might invest five dollars in a Simon Primer, an electrically heated manifold. The Model T was always painted black. It always had a four cylinder, water-cooled engine and a two-speed gearbox with reverse. In 1914, Ford opened a factory in Manchester to produce the Model T. Although the car that had won America's heart was popular in Britain, it was never the success there that it had been in its homeland. Image Size: 6 x 7 in. Overall Size: 11.75 x 13 in. Unframed. All proceeds from the sale of this Practical Classics Camper Van sale will go to Prostate Cancer UK.This beautifully presented VW Type 2 Camper Van is the result of three years painstaking restoration work coordinated by Practical Classics Magazine and Lancaster Insurance Services Ltd. All proceeds from its sale will go to Prostate Cancer UK.Initially, the 1979 former panel van was to be restored in time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the VW Type 2, however, the pandemic got in the way of that aspiration. Instead, a longer and more in-depth restoration including a full engine rebuild emerged. Every aspect of the camper has been revived. On initial inspection, the original colour was discovered and a commitment to return it to that colour was made. The respray was completed by CBR Restorations Ltd to an extremely high standard. The interior was retrimmed to the highest standard and colour coded by the experts at Newton Commercial Ltd.New tyres are courtesy of Vintage Tyres and the engine rebuild was completed by the Practical Classics Team using new components from VW parts specialist, Heritage Parts Ltd, who also supplied other parts for the van. There’s a new floor, new lights, renewed wiring and window seals all round. The restoration complete, the van was then sent around the UK, visiting the best beaches the UK has to offer.Camper Round the CoastPractical Classics and Lancaster joined forces to do something really special and that is what has resulted. A beautiful van that has been restored to a very high standard, ready for a proving run that saw it being driven around the coast of the UK for a magazine feature.Proving run? It probably counts as one of the most ambitious shakedowns in history, but the challenge was too good to resist, plus the Practical Classics and Lancaster Insurance teams had made a promise. Setting off on a 1,600 mile, seven-day trip around the coast of Britain should have been preceded by a month of testing… Nothing like a deadline eh? MoT was achieved just in time. The run itself was pegged with unmissable waymarks and emotional moments, part of the partners' commitment to Prostate Cancer UK. A week-long fundraising jaunt, every day involving a mighty drive at 56mph ending in a visit to one of the beaches voted for by customers of PC and Lancaster, at which there would be a pop-up classic car show, hosted by the teams… in order to shake the tin and raise money for PCUK.The van had proved itself, the beaches were visited, and the generosity showed when enthusiasts came to say hello was universally magnificent. Now we need to add to the £1000 raised during the Camper Round the Coast run with a really big hammer price. A rare 3-door version of Ford's capable 4-wheel drive sports saloon from the eighties.Offered as Ford’s answer to the total traction trend in the mid-eighties at the 1985 Geneva Motor ShowCologne 2.8 V6-engine producing 162bhp with a superb V6 soundtrack Rugged Ferguson four-wheel-drive transmissionStaggering all-weather grip, a balanced chassis and speed to rival the trend-setting QuattroOnly 35,010km by its one French owner complete with a UK NOVADashing three-door styling shared by its Cosworth sibling and presenting in great overall conditionFord's all-wheel drive family hatch was developed to extend the usability of its household name with a brace of driven axles and a tough, naturally-aspirated V6. So popular did the concept prove in its day that the XR4x4 superseded the rear-wheel drive XR4i that came before it. It seemed British buyers of the eighties were becoming enthusiastic by the notion of added traction. You can understand why, given that back in 1985, when the XR4x4 was first shown with its twin viscous differential-equipped driveline at the Geneva motor show, the four-wheel drive segment was comparatively tiny. The XR4x4 promised familiar hatch usability with added year-round dependability in a familiar package. It was unique. The car packed a punch, too, Ford's 2.8-litre Cologne V6 providing the early three-door with 162hp at 5,700rpm, meaning the Sierra XR4x4 could hit 60mph in 8.5 seconds - ranking it alongside some of the era's most interesting hatchbacks, including the much smaller 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTI. Obviously Ford's ambition for the Sierra was different, but its rear-bias, all-wheel drive system meant there was still fun to be had in the 1,262kg machine.Obviously smitten when the Sierra 2.8i, 4X4 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show the cars French first owner went and bought one and kept it all his life until purchased by our vendor and imported to the UK recently. The early cars utilised the 3-door Sierra Cosworth bodyshell and were primarily left-hand drive. He only covered some 35,010km (22,000miles) in the car over the 35-years of his ownership Since its arrival in the UK, it’s been subject to a full mechanical health check that included a complete replacement of the fuel system with a new tank, fuel filters and pump. The cooling system was totally gone through with a new radiator and hoses. It had a full service including oil and filter, spark plugs, HT leads, distributor and rotor arm and was treated to new wiper blades, fuses, battery and bulbs.Low mileage, dashing three-door styling shared by its Cosworth sibling and presenting in great overall condition. A truly exceptional SC Targa with only 37,000 miles from new. Astonishing condition.Stunning 3-litre, right-hand drive, SC Targa in Guards Red with a Pasha interiorPowered by a 180bhp, 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a five-speed, 915 transmission This SC Targa is a true survivor, having lived a sheltered life in Jersey for almost 40 yearsIt has covered less than 37,000 miles and been serviced every few years as requiredOur vendor is known for being particularly fastidious and with the red paint having faded slightly in the Jersey sunshine, he removed the engine, gearbox and seats prior to refreshing the paintworkTo his astonishment, the Guards Red responded to a good clean so the gleaming finish is the original 42-year old 'Factory' paint, the car has not been resprayedIt's accompanied by its document pouch with the usual manuals and service records, correspondence, invoices and MOTs etcThe 3-litre SC was a great car anyway but at this low mileage, in such sparkling condition and on offer at 'No Reserve', this is a remarkable opportunity. This sparkling SC Targa lived happily in Jersey up until 2020, followed by Southport until recently, and the effect of years of sunshine in the Channel Islands was very much evident in the Porsche's Guards Red paintwork. Our vendor, who has vast experience of modern classics and is known to be particularly fastidious, assumed that the car would need to be repainted before sale so the engine, gearbox and seats etc. were removed prior to the inevitable respray. To his surprise, having started to clean it, the factory paintwork had remained in top condition under the dull red haze. The car was professionally cleaned and carefully gone through mechanically with amazing results as you can see from the images. The current indicated mileage is 36,980 and the car's History File is very interesting. It includes the factory wallet which contains a service book showing dealers (in period) as well as a letter directly from Porsche explaining that the space-saver spare wheel does not conform to current UK directives (in 1979) and them not being true radials. As such the car came with 12 months recovery and free puncture repair within the UK and Isle of Man but not the Channel Islands!! There is an accountants receipt from 1990 for £17,500, detailing the sale of J12077 to a Mr K Pinel with a statement that the car had first been registered to that plate on 7/5/1980 at a mileage of 18,900. There are a couple of receipts from Porsche Centre Jersey in 1991, a 1997 Porsche Club GB Membership relating to Miss Worrin, an insurance valuation for £12,000 in 1999 stating the mileage as 26,500, and a service invoice dated 2001 from Jersey Garage ( Five Oaks) at 28,213 miles. In 2004, ownership appears to have transferred to a Mr Lebacle who paid £741.44 to Oakhurst Garage for a service at 34,503 miles. He subsequently sold the car to a gentleman in Southport in August 2020.In factory paint with a smart black and white 'Pasha' interior, this is a very desirable 3-litre, SC Targa that could occupy pride of place in any collection of early 911s.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911Year: 1979Chassis Number: 91A0130580Registration Number: PVL 430VTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 36980 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black and Grey PashaClick here for more details and images
The last time you saw this Defender it had just been rolled into a ball by James Bond's wingless Islander.Leading Land Rover modifiers, Bowler Motorsport, were tasked by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations division, with producing a number of vehicles to be used in the forthcoming James Bond movie, 'Spectre'The firm transformed 10 standard production, Santorini Black, crew-cab 110s into the SVX Concept or Spectre Defender. The cars featured huge 37-inch tyres, heavy-duty roll cages plus toughened suspensions with rose joints and Bilstein rally dampersA full internal and external roll-cage was fitted, a roof rack and Light Force spotlights were added, as well as a front nudge bar, Recaro seats with 4-point harnesses, a Warn winch, a snorkel, rocker guards, a front bash plate, and a hydraulic handbrakeThe engine bay also received significant attention, power from the original 120 bhp turbo diesel was increased to 185 bhp, and a prodigious 368 lb/ft of torqueWhilst some of the cars were earmarked for stationary close up and interior shots, seven were prepared for the snow scenes with two ending up severely damagedThis particular car enjoyed the most spectacular demise of all, ending up being rolled into a ball by Bond's wingless Islander as it emerged from the barn still travelling at speedInitially assumed to be 'written-off', that was not the case and the car was returned to Bowler who rebuilt it totally at a cost of around £46,000Now returned to the road and UK registered with the significant registration 'A007 SVX', the car has still only covered 35 miles and will be MOT'd prior to the saleWith a number of replicas of these cars becoming available, it's important to remember that this is the 'real deal' and like anything with genuine Bond movie provenance, there will always be a ready market. In 1962, over a winning hand of Chemin-de-Fer, a secret agent introduced himself and twenty-five films later he needs no introduction. By the third film, 1964’s Goldfinger, the franchise had found its footing and 007 his car, the Aston Martin DB5. The title song’s opening chorus “Goldfinger, He's the man, the man with the Midas touch” as belted out by Shirley Bassey, is relevant today as it can be argued that any car featured in the long-running film series has the “Midas touch”. Values of the Aston Martin DB5 have skyrocketed since the re-introduction of the model in Daniel Craig’s first outing as James Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale. It had a starring role in 2012’s Skyfall and featured in the closing credits of the 2015 film Spectre.Sam Mendes, the director of both Skyfall and Spectre wanted a spectacular snow chase scene and turned to Jaguar Land Rover to assist. With the standard Land Rover 110 Defender deemed a bit too bland for a baddy’s getaway car they turned to leading Land Rover modifiers, Bowler. The firm transformed 10 standard production, Santorini Black, crew-cab 110s into the SVX Concept or Spectre Defender. The cars featured huge 37-inch tyres, heavy-duty roll cages plus toughened suspensions with rose joints and Bilstein rally dampers. A hydraulic handbrake was installed, and its lever repositioned. The engine was tuned to give 180 bhp and Recaro seats fitted. The Land Rovers fell into two categories for the chase sequence, high-speed 'getaway' road cars and low-speed snow cars. This particular Land Rover was developed for the snow scene and given the way in which some of these cars were used during filming, it is unsurprising that not all survived intact with three cars out of the original ten apparently destroyed. This particular car enjoyed the most spectacular demise of all, ending up being rolled into a ball by Bond's wingless Britten-Norman Islander as it emerged from the barn still travelling at speed prior to the aircraft gently T-boning the following Range Rover containing the female lead, Léa Seydoux. It was initially assumed that the Defender was damaged beyond repair but apparently not, as when it was returned to Bowlers, they felt that the damage was lighter than it appeared and, £46,000 later, it's back as "good as new". It has still only covered 35 miles and was UK registered this year with the fabulously appropriate registration 'A007 SVX'. It will be MOT tested prior to the sale. There are a number of replica Spectre Defenders available on the market but, that's what they are, replicas and what we have here is the 'real deal' on offer at 'No Reserve' and like anything with genuine Bond movie provenance, there will always be a ready market. Very pretty, low-mileage, ex-Guernsey, Series 3 on offer at 'No Reserve'.Dating from mid-1973 and factory-finished in Pale Primrose with a black leather interiorOptioned with automatic transmission, chrome wire wheels and fitted with a Webasto roofSold by Mann Egerton in July 1973 to its first owner in Southend on SeaArrived in Guernsey in 1988 and has covered very few further miles in the hands of the following two owners12,695 miles indicated supported by the history file which contains MOT certificates going back as far as 1976, as well as the buff Guernsey logbook and its Jaguar Heritage CertificateEssentially original, the Jaguar has benefitted from fresh paintwork and some new brightwork less than 12 months agoThis is a significant ‘reference’ vehicle for Series 3 E-Types, and retains its PDI marks and notes, wiring tape and other original featuresWith classic looks, a burbling V12, the added usability of the 2+2 configuration and a lovely Primrose hue, this unrestored 1973 Series 3 would make an excellent addition to any car collection. A decade after the Jaguar E-Type Series 1 arrived, the design progressively matured through 1971 with the introduction of the Series 3 developed to showcase the new smooth and torquey 5.3-litre engine, originally destined for Le Mans. Being slightly larger and altogether much softer in nature, the E-Type in Series 3 form had lost the wildness of its youth but gained the long-legged touring profile, to which it was arguably better suited. This lovely example dates from mid-1973 and is factory-finished in Pale Primrose with a black leather interior. It was ordered through Mann Egerton and optioned with automatic transmission, chrome wire wheels and a Webasto sliding sunroof. Its first owner is recorded as living in Southend on Sea but, in 1988, the Jaguar crossed the water to Guernsey where it was to be enjoyed by two further owners and, as is normal in Guernsey, covered very few miles. The current indicated mileage is 12,695 supported by the History File which contains MOT Certificates going back as far as 1976, as well as the 'buff' Guernsey logbook and its Jaguar Heritage Certificate. The essence of this car, however, is its originality. Apart from fresh paintwork (which had slightly lost its edge from many hours in the Guernsey sun) and some new brightwork less than 12 months ago, the car remains totally standard and is a significant ‘reference’ vehicle for Series 3 E-Types, retaining its PDI marks and notes, wiring tape and other original features. This is remarkable in a car that's 58-years old. With classic looks, a burbling V12, the added usability of the 2+2 configuration and a lovely Primrose hue, this unrestored 1973 Series 3 would make an excellent addition to any car collection. Car #047 of just 50 official UK-market, Passion Red examples in exceptional condition.A genuine Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition (CP9A / SNGF2) SCP car (1 of 212)It is also an official UK-market example, Number #047 of just 50Imported by Mitsubishi-affiliated 'Ralliart UK', finished in Ralliart Passion Red First registered in the UK as a new car on 14-6-2001. Four former keepers59,958 miles from new supported by a comprehensive and detailed historyHighly collectable, these original rally homologation icons continue to generate serious interestBy mid-1996, Mitsubishi"s rallying success began to really reflect in Lancer Evolution sales. The 1996 WRC season brought Mitsubishi, together with a blisteringly quick Finn named Tommi Makinen, its first World Rally Championship drivers" title. The fiercely competitive Makinen borrowed the phrase "maximum attack" and used it to devastating effect.By 1997, rallying had captured the imagination of petrol-heads all over the world and Mitsubishi sold 6,000 Evolution IVs in the first three days of its launch! In quick succession, the Lancer Evolution VI came to be and in the latter-half of 1999, Mitsubishi unleashed a special edition to celebrate its favourite son"s four consecutive WRC drivers" titles from 1996-1999 – the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI "Tommi Makinen Edition" (TME). The Evolution VI was already a technological tour de force, but the TME had a more responsive titanium turbocharger, uprated and lowered suspension ("tuned to give improved initial response on tarmac surfaces"), quicker steering, a different exhaust, a new ECU, beefed-up transfer case internals, a redesigned front bumper for even better cooling and authentic 17-inch WRC Enkei alloy wheels. Plus there was a special interior, featuring embossed Recaro seats, a MOMO steering wheel and red stitching. The performance upgrades saw the 0-60mph sprint obliterated in 4.4 seconds and a maximum top speed of 150 mph. Power was rumoured to be over 300bhp, rather than the 276bhp "agreement".Widely regarded as the finest Lancer to wear the Evolution badge, it was now available in five colours, with Passion Red and Canal Blue joining Scotia White, Pyrenean Black and Satellite Silver. Only 250 TMEs (across the five colours) were officially imported into the UK, with 100 examples going to Australia, and the rest sold domestically in the Japanese Market. Official figures show that of the UK"s allocation, only 50 examples were in Passion Red. According to Mitsubishi, it was these Passion Red cars that automatically received the renowned racing decals, known as a "Special Colour Package" (SCP), meaning these cars were factory-fitted with black door handles (so as to not break the line of the long profile decal). In the world of Mitsubishi aficionados, the consensus is that there were just 212 official factory SCP examples of the TME produced. The car presented here then is very special indeed. Not only is it a genuine Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition (CP9A / SNGF2) SCP car (i.e.1 of 212), but it is also an official UK-market example. This means it was officially imported by Mitsubishi-affiliated 'Ralliart UK', hence it would have been professionally SVA'd and is supplied with UK service books, a calibrated speedometer, an unleaded-spec fuel restrictor, cold-climate battery and an alternator, plus it is individually number with a plaque in the cabin - in this case Number 47.This Evo VI 'TME' was first registered in the UK as a new car on 14-6-2001 and has covered 59,900 miles from new in the hands of four former keepers. Finished in the traditional and original Ralliart Passion Red, it looks magnificent today and still performs as well as it looks. Only two registered keepers, just 28,000 miles and delightfully original. In 1980, an RS2000 Custom was an extremely aspirational purchase, with the distinctive polyurethane droop snoot front end and air dam, plus a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, SOHC, Pinto engine, offering 0-60mph in just 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 108mphThe key word to describe this car is originality, it still retains all the original body panels and glass and has been looked after extraordinarily well by its three owners from new The spare wheel and tyre are original and unused, as are the ashtray and cigar lighter and 1 key fits all the locks as when new.Supplied new to Breeze of Amble, Morpeth on 6-6-1980, the owner was the Managing Director of a Ford dealership and he immediately treated the car to an application of Dinitrol Acquired by our vendor 2014 and has been professionally stored ever sinceJust 28,250 miles from new, a figure that is corroborated by the car’s MOT HistoryWith a fresh MOT until August next year, this is a great opportunity to own a splendidly original and unmolested example of the rarer 'Custom’ version of a true Ford 1980s icon. It was back in 1970 that Ford introduced their Rally Sport models - the RS range. Originally designed as a way of building limited numbers of homologation specials for serious competition use, it soon grew into a major marketing opportunity, and one that Ford grabbed with both hands. By 1976, when the RS 2000 Mk2 was launched, the term RS had grown to mean something a bit special. In late 1978, the 'Custom Pack' became an option and included the following; 'Fishnet' Recaro seats, full door-cards, clock and pod centre console, 6J x 13″ alloys, boot carpet, remote drivers door mirror and the back panel around the rear lights was painted black. The key word to describe this car is originality. It still retains all the original body panels and glass and has been looked after extraordinarily well by its three owners from new (only two registered keepers on the V5C). Our late, much respected, vendor acquired the car back in 2014 from its second private owner and has professionally stored it ever since, indoors in a showroom and unregistered to him.Showing just 28,250 miles from new, a figure that is corroborated by the car’s MOT History, it drives really well today and is surely one of the best unrestored examples available. When supplied new to Breeze of Amble, Morpeth on 6-6-1980, the owner was the Managing Director of a Ford dealership and he immediately treated the car to an application of Dinitrol, a type of Waxoyl protection, still visible today and which has definitely helped protect the bodywork from any rust or corrosion. The original Custom-spec included some dealer-fitted options when new:Rear Ford mud flapsFront Ford carpet matsGlass sunroofFront wheelarch liners‘Group 1’ vented discs, calipers and compatible brake compensating valveRear seatbeltsJanspeed stainless steel exhaust and manifoldThe car shines in all the right areas - the spare wheel and tyre are original and unused, as are the ashtray and cigar lighter and 1 key fits all the locks as when new.Coming to the sale with a fresh MOT until August next year and a good history file, this is a great opportunity to own a splendidly original and unmolested example of the rarer 'Custom’ version of a true Ford 1980s icon.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: ESCORT MKII RS2000 CUSTOMYear: 1980Chassis Number: GCATAG005340Registration Number: DBB 134VTransmission: ManualEngine Number: AG00534Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 28382 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
A simply delightful RS Cosworth, 10,490 warranted miles, patently cared for and refreshingly original. An original, matching numbers, RS Cosworth on offer from a private collectionFinished in sparkling Diamond White with a virtually unmarked Recaro grey cloth interiorThree former keepers and only 10,490 miles from new supported by comprehensive history file Stamped Service Records, handbooks, invoices, V5, original Purchase Invoice, every MOT and a spare set of keysThe current MOT is valid until 24-09-2022 Just 5,545 were built, and very few survive like thisAt its introduction in 1982, the Sierra's revolutionary new shape proved a touch more divisive than Ford had anticipated and some serious marketing became a priority, so it was the obvious choice to become the platform for Ford's new competition aspirations in conjunction with Cosworth. It fitted the brief well as it was rear-wheel drive, had good aerodynamics, albeit being prone to lift at high speeds and was available as a three-door. The new body kit and rear spoiler would sort out the lift issues but, more importantly, Ford still needed to build 5,000 units for homologation, somewhat worrying when the company's initial approach to the dealer network came back with an estimate that suggested they could sell around 1,500 units! The eventual sales record is, of course, history. Ford went on to sell 5,545 three-door cars including the RS500, of which only 500 were built, and the Cosworth engine also found its way into nearly 30,000 Ford Sierra Saloons (Cosworth 3dr, Sapphire 2wd, and 4wd).This particular Sierra Cosworth dates from 1987 and is on offer from the collection of our late and much respected vendor. It has covered, just 10,490 miles from new, a remarkably small mileage which is warranted by the comprehensive history file containing all its MOT Certificates dating back and a thorough record of bills and monies spent. It even contains the original purchase invoice for £14,500 and the bill for its first service !Looking as crisp as ever in Diamond White with a virtually unmarked Recaro grey cloth interior, just three former keepers have had the pleasure of owning this time-warp car from new and it's interesting to see the various values the car has achieved over the years and how the mileage has remained consistently low (5,490 in 1997) and the car refreshingly original. 'Original' is the key word here, frequently misused, but in the case of D33 NKN, totally appropriate and your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to confirm that we do not use the word lightly. The Cosworth is accompanied by the usual stamped Service Records, handbooks, invoices, V5, original Purchase Invoice, every MOT, the current Certificate valid until 24-09-2022 and a spare set of keys.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: SIERRAYear: 1987Chassis Number: WF0EXXGBBEGA06559Registration Number: D33 NKNTransmission: ManualEngine Number: GA06559Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 10271 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
Sympathetically restored a few years ago and only lightly used since, this is a superb example of the 'game-changing' Mk1 Twin Cam.This original, road-specification Twin Cam dates from early 1968 and, unusually, was purchased new for road useIt's classically finished in Ermine White with a black interiorRestored in the 1980s by a previous owner, retaining its original AVO Type-49 bodyshell and utilising as many of the original parts as possibleThe quality of the restoration can be judged by the car's subsequent success in RS Owners' Club Concours events With our late vendor for the past seven years in his private collectionAccompanied by some old MOT Certificates, a current one valid until August 2022, a DVLA print-out of previous owners, a period workshop manual and an Owners' HandbookIt's not often that a Mk 1 Twin-Cam of this quality becomes available, a rare chance to own a piece of Ford competition-inspired history. The arrival of the Escort Twin Cam at the start of 1968 marked the second phase of Ford UK's production-car based competitions programme that had commenced with the Lotus Cortina. The latter had used the Ford-based 1.6-litre Lotus Twin Cam engine to good effect, and combining this unit with the smaller and lighter Escort bodyshell would prove to be an inspired move. Reputedly, Ford's Competitions Manager, Henry Taylor, had seen a prototype Escort being tested and recognised its potential.A feasibility study commenced at the Competitions Department's Boreham factory in March 1967, which proved that although the list of modifications required to install the bulky Twin Cam engine and 2000E gearbox was a lengthy one, the transplant was possible. The project duly got the 'green light' and a dedicated Twin Cam production line was set up at Ford's Halewood plant on Merseyside where the cars were assembled by a hand-picked team using the stronger, export-specification Escort two-door bodyshell. Production proper got underway in the spring of 1968 after the first 25 Twin Cams had been assembled at Boreham. Group 3 homologation (500 units built) was achieved in March '68 and apparently, Group 2 (1,000 units) in May, although there may have been some 'artistic licence' with this as it's now clear that Twin Cam production totalled 883 units.Competition success had been the Twin Cam's 'raison d'etre' and Ford's new baby was soon delivering the goods. A pair of the Boreham-built Twin Cams dominated the televised Croft rallycross meeting in February 1968, demonstrating its potential to an audience of millions, while the car's first major international success was achieved during March when Ove Andersson and John Davenport finished 3rd in the San Remo Rally. The Twin Cam's first outright win was achieved by Roger Clark in the Circuit of Ireland Rally at Easter. Despite a short works career that ended in 1971, the Escort Twin Cam won the World Rally 'Championship for Makes' twice, in 1968 and '69, and helped the Alan Mann Racing-entered Frank Gardner take the British Touring Car Championship in '68. This original, road-specification Twin Cam is an early 1968 example finished in Ermine White (nearly all Twin Cams were) with a black interior and, unusually, it was purchased new for road use. It was restored in the 1980s by a previous owner, retaining its original AVO Type-49 bodyshell and utilising as many of the original parts as possible, and has covered very few miles since. The quality of the restoration can be judged by the fact that XGW 3G placed 2nd in the 2001 RS Owners' Club Concours event at Lightwater Valley in Yorkshire and is well known to the AVO Owners Club. The coachwork, paintwork, engine, gearbox and interior are reported to all be in "very good" condition. We have driven the car and can confirm that it drives superbly with no obvious faults and the 1600 twin cam still delivers plenty of power accompanied by that distinctive engine note that so characterises the 'Twink'.The car has been cossetted in our much respected late vendor's private collection for the last seven years and is supplied with a number of old MOT Certificates, a current one valid until August '22, a DVLA print-out of previous owners, a period workshop manual and a reproduction Owners' Handbook. It's ready to go and presents really well in the metal. It's not often that a Mk 1 Twin-Cam of this quality, properly restored and with good provenance, comes onto the open market and, with prices continuing to climb, this is a rare chance to own a piece of Ford competition-inspired history. From long-term ownership with only 15,103 miles, the rare and desirable RS500.E389 ERC was first registered on 8th September 1987 and retains its original and unmodified engine and gearboxProfessionally stored by our vendor since his ownership began back in 2006 and seldom usedThe history file confirms the indicated mileage of 15,103 as genuineThe car is accompanied by its service pack, spare keys and an MOT valid until 1/10/2022This lovely Cosworth is in the sort of condition that only comes with low mileage and ownership, and your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to acquaint yourself with this very special RS500The original Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was the first Ford to wear the Cosworth badge and was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1985. It was introduced as a means of homologating the Sierra for 'Group A' Touring Car racing, with a requirement that 5,000 cars were built and sold. Launched for sale in July 1986, and based on the three-door Sierra body-shell, it was designed by Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) and was powered by a Cosworth-designed 2.0-litre turbo engine of now-legendary repute. At this time, the Sierra Cosworth was a new kind of performance car - a 'blue-collar hero' able to humble true sports cars! In total 5,545 cars were produced - of which 500 were sent to Aston Martin Tickford for conversion to the Sierra 'RS500 Cosworth'. If the RS Cosworth was a homologation car, the RS500 was an evolution special. Once Ford had built the requisite 5,000 RS Cosworths, 'Group A' rules allowed an upgraded 'evolution' model to be launched. This could carry changes focused on improving its racing potential, provided Ford sold 10% of the original number as road cars, hence the 500. The RS500 was announced in July 1987 and had a mechanically uprated Cosworth engine (more similar to the one to be used in competition), with power boosted to 224bhp, upgraded brakes, modified bodywork and the cachet of being hand-assembled - the RS500 really is the ultimate 1980s Fast Ford!E389 ERC was first registered on 8th September 1987 and retains its original and unmodified engine and gearbox. It remains finished in the original black factory paint and has been professionally stored by our late and much respected vendor since his ownership began back in 2006 and seldom used. The history file confirms the indicated mileage of 15,103 as genuine, with several lengthy periods of the car being off the road, but regularly maintained. The tyres, which look to be original, are starting to crack and perish slightly so a new set will be required if our lucky purchaser intends to use the car, perhaps keeping the originals as part of its provenance. The car is accompanied by its Service Pack, spare keys and an MOT valid until 1-10-2022.This is an extremely rare and highly revered model that epitomises the era, enjoys a dedicated following and has a formidable motorsport legacy - all being vital factors which won't diminish over time and, realistically, it’s value is only going one way. One of One. An Evo VII RS developed by Xtreme to an unprecedented level. Incredible spec and incredibly special. The Evo VII SC was based on an Evo VII RS and suitable for road use as well as competitionDemonstrated extensively, used as a press car and the cover car for the Xtreme websiteBy 2005 at 2,834 miles it was sold from their showroom in 2005 to a private buyer who spent a further £30,000 on the carFull Service history and details of the massive build-spec on our websiteThis is a unique motor car and part of the history of the Evo, Ralliart, Xtreme DudleyIn the days before Mitsubishi officially imported their Lancer Evolution models (Evos), Ralliart UK (often known as Extreme Dudley) were the original importers of Evos into the UK. During this period, they built a number of ‘specials’ including the Evo VI Extreme, RS Sprint and 450, VII Extreme S and RS Sprint and, although sold in small numbers, most importantly they were official UK cars. Ralliart Extreme were power players in Evo history, and were the company to go to for enthusiasts, due to their 3-year warranty and top of their game sales team and technicians. Based on this success, they decided to build a further car to be used as a demonstrator before ultimately being sold. Entitled the Evo VII SC, it was to be based on an Evo VII RS and be suitable for road use as well as competition. Toney Cox, the workshop manager responsible for car build and testing for the Ralliart world rally team (WRC), was entrusted with the build and the car was finished in 2003.The SC was demonstrated extensively, used as a press car, was the cover car for the Xtreme website and featured in all the company's advertising. A period advert from 2004 read "Based on the lightweight close-ratio gearbox Evolution VII RS model fitted with ACD, LSD Rear and Helical Front Diffs, our Xtreme SC is the most powerful car we have built to date, yet engineered to provide the customer with an opportunity to further tune and modify to take the power from 458bhp to over 500bhp if required! As with all of our tuning packages, torque has been a major focus too, the Xtreme SC is therefore pushing out a back thumping 410ft/lbs to ensure astonishing pull throughout the rev range. 4 cylinder, turbocharged 2.2-litres, 458bhp @ 5,800rpm, 410ft/lbs @ 3,500rpm, 0-60 in 3.5secs."In the event, only one SC was ever built, the car we are pleased to offer today. Rare and sought-after V-spec example, with low mileage, service history and the recipient of much expense.Rare and sought-after V-spec example, a higher performance version, featuring uprated suspension, and a 'Pro' version of the ATTESA 4WD that included an active LSD, which at the time made it arguably the most technologically advanced production car in the world; mighty RB26 twin-turbo 2.6-litre inline six-cylinder powerplantImported by a specialist UK-based Japanese sportscar company 7 years ago and bought by our vendor, a discerning and enthusiastic car collectorFull Japanese service history and book-pack, just 82,000km (50,000 miles), and in completely standard conditionExterior all repainted to the highest standard, decals professionally reapplied, adjustable suspension all renewed, and the bespoke leather interior was fully retrimmedRust-free and over £10,000 spent since importationPerhaps underrated but quietly influential compared to its forbears, the R33 incarnation of the GT-R is still a pure sports car experience, but now aided by some of the most revolutionary handling technology to influence modern performance driving. The new R33 Skyline GT-R was launched in January 1995 with a base GT-R and the V-spec model. The V-spec model had a sportier suspension set-up resulting in lower ground clearance, and also featured the newer ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel drive system, which included an Active Limited-Slip Differential. At the heart of the V-spec version was the ATTESA-ETS Pro Electronic Torque Split System, which at the time made it arguably the most technologically advanced production car in the world. The system was conceived in the 1990s for the JTCC to put some 600bhp through the wheels and to the racetrack efficiently. ETS Pro satisfied the purist by giving all the advantages of rear wheel drive until the conditions dictated otherwise. Also, on the V-spec version, was an active LSD on the rear axle which further aided traction by calculating the optimum torque-split between the left and right rear wheels, variable from fully locked to totally free.Working along with ATTESA-ETS PRO, is the SUPER HICAS rear-wheel steering wheel. This uses a series of sensors to monitor vehicle motion, rate of turn and the driver's action on the steering wheel. Complex software then compares this information to the computer predictions of the car's ideal turning characteristics, adjusting the angle of the rear wheels to reflect the driver's intentions. The result of this type of technology? Neutral steering and unrivalled cornering capabilities. The engine in the R33 was nearly identical to the previous R32. It used the same turbochargers and the same specification for the manual gearbox, although the synchros were made to be stronger. The engine corrected the R32's weak oil pump drive collar, which tended to fail in higher power applications, with a wider collar. With the realisation that the increased body rigidity increases handling potential, several specially designed cross members are integrated into the monocoque body design. In addition, extra torsion bars were added to the multi-link suspension to further enhance stability. Working closely with Bridgestone technicians to perfect the Potenza tyres, Nissan put the prototype R33 GT-R through its paces in all weathers at the notorious Nürburgring, earning them a daring reputation amongst other manufacturers.Tested in the wind tunnel and capable of around 175 mph, the Skyline GT-R's adjustable rear spoiler lets you find the best compromise between wind resistance and grip. To equalise the weight distribution, the bonnet and front wings were made of aluminium instead of steel and the battery was removed from the engine bay and placed in the rear of the GT-R. This altered the car's centre of gravity and improved its corning characteristics.Inside the Skyline GT-R, form followed function. Mono-form bucket seats with integrated headrests that are lightweight yet immensely tough provided the ideal driving position and supported the body against the G-forces endured under hard acceleration and cornering. The braking system was made by Italy's famous Brembo Spa, suppliers to many of the world's Formula 1 teams at this time. Four-piston calipers were fitted on the front with two-piston calipers on the rear to bite into the discs with a diamond shaped ventilation bores which increased the surface area to aid heat dissipation. The GT-R's braking system utilises the same wheel rotation sensors used to control the ATTESA-ETS PRO, to activate the high-performance ABS, ensuring that the huge Brembo calipers always deliver optimum performance. The car presented here is a 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-spec, imported by a specialist UK-based Japanese sportscar company some 7 years ago and bought by our vendor, who is a discerning and enthusiastic car collector.Reassuringly, the car is accompanied by a full Japanese service history and book-pack, has covered just 82,000km (50,000 miles), and is in completely standard specification. Furthermore, there is no rust or bodywork damage, encouraging our vendor to invest in having the exterior fully repainted to the highest standard, with the decals professionally reapplied. He also ensured that the adjustable suspension was all renewed, and commissioned a bespoke leather interior, in all, costing over £10,000. The end result is a striking and fit-for-purpose R33. With prices on the march for the best quality and most original Japanese sports cars, this R33 has a lot going for it and is not to be missed. A lovely example of the feline AC Ace, superbly returned to life by one of the UK's most talented engineers. An original, home market, 1955 Ace finished in the rare factory colour of Pacific Green with a Black leather interior and registered on the 13th April in Surrey as WPL 750The original AC two-litre engine was replaced with the highly desirable Bristol D2 in the early sixtiesPurchased by John Gardiner of Crosthwaite and Gardiner in 1966A full restoration eventually commenced in 2005 resulting in one of the finest mechanically and bodily restored Aces in existenceComplete with a provenance file containing the 'buff' logbook, photos of the restoration, some recent invoices and an MOT valid until June 2022.The AC Ace first appeared at Earls Court in 1953 and epitomised a new era of British post-war sports car production. The owners of AC, Charles and Derek Hurlock, along with AC agent, Ken Rudd, transformed the company's reputation by taking a racing special and putting it into production, with notable stylistic influences from Italian sports cars of the era. The result was a car that delivered both on the road, and particularly on the track thanks to the input of racing chassis designer John Tojeiro. Tojeiro employed the same simple tubular ladder-type chassis with an aluminium body that he had used in his earlier specials, however, the Ace differed by being fitted with all-round independent suspension by transverse springs (the first British sports car to do so), ensuring superb handling with minimal body roll and plenty of feedback. Such was the success of the Ace chassis, it became the foundation for the mighty Shelby Cobras with over three times the power of the original 105bhp, Weller designed, six-cylinder engine. The outdated AC unit eventually made way for the more refined Bristol straight-six, which had evolved from the pre-war BMW 328. The Bristol engine was far more suited to racing, as demonstrated with some success by Cooper, and in its standard form developed 128bhp at 6000rpm. Consequently, it is the Bristol-engined Ace that is most sought after by collectors. The Ace Bristol enjoyed significant competition success being campaigned by enthusiastic club racers, private owners and most famously by the Ken Rudd team at Le Mans in 1957 and 1958. Bristol-engined Aces were run successfully at Le Mans from 1957 to 1962 by various entrants, however, it was on a domestic club level where Ace Bristols earned their reputation as superb racing machines. In total, only 466 Ace Bristols were manufactured and they are justifiably hot property amongst collectors as very few examples become available on the open market. The AC Ace was a truly innovative piece of design and represents the foundation from which the legendary Cobra was developed.John Gardiner, the legendary toolmaker and restoration engineer, joined Dick Crosthwaite in the sixties to form a partnership, Crosthwaite and Gardiner, that was eventually to become established as world-class providers of engineering and manufacturing services to the historic motor racing community. Their reputation has grown with all marques including Bugatti, Maserati and Jaguar and restorations on many of the most famous historic racing cars in the world. It's no surprise then, that with a demanding growing business, John Gardiner took nearly forty years to commence a personal project and embark on the restoration of an AC Ace that he had purchased in 1966. The AC in question was an original, home market, 1955 Ace finished in the rare factory colour of Pacific Green with a Black leather interior and registered on the 13th April in Surrey as WPL 750, a registration number it still retains to this day. The 'buff' log book notes that the original AC two-litre engine was replaced with the highly desirable Bristol D2 in the early sixties, prior to John's purchase. It was not until circa 2005 that John felt he had enough time to devote to the project and he embarked on a full nut and bolt restoration aided by the substantial resources of his company and his own (perfectionist) engineering skills. Those skills and attention to detail are evident in the result and anybody who spends time in the presence of this wonderful motor car will appreciate John's dedication and standards. The result is one of the finest mechanically and bodily restored Aces in existence and it's no surprise that it drives beautifully and is perfectly balanced on the road.Sadly, John passed away not long after the car was finished and it was registered to his wife who now feels that the time is right for someone else to enjoy her late husband's 'pride and joy'.It come complete with a provenance file containing the 'buff' logbook, photos of the restoration at Crosthwaite and Gardiner, some recent invoices and an MOT valid until June 2022.When Carroll Shelby stood on the winners rostrum at Le Mans in 1959 deep in conversation with AC Ace Class Winners Ted Whiteaway and John Turner he obviously had a vision ... as they say - the rest is history. The Ace Bristol is a car that rightfully deserves its place in the history books as 'grandfather' to the legendary AC Cobra, and this lovely classic offers the opportunity to enjoy that history whenever you fancy as well as, perhaps, quietly appreciating the skill and craftsmanship that led Dick Crosthwaite and John Gardiner to contribute to the survival of some of the world's most significant classic cars. Offered directly by Mike Brewer and soon to feature in the TV Show " The Grand Tour".A marriage of Citroen and Maserati led to the birth of a highly individual coupe - the SM was a two-door, four-seat Coupe powered by a 2670cc, Maserati, four-cam, 90-degree V6 producing 180bhp at 6,250rpm, all fed through the front wheels. Complex and innovative; the suspension was Hydropneumatic and the steering was variable-assist hydraulicThis 2.7 SM was purchased by Mike in a sorry state a few years agoThe car was completely stripped prior to a full restoration and well-respected Nathan Bovington and his family at Paragon in Northampton were key players in the projectParts were sourced from all over the world and even manufactured if they weren’t availableWhen finished, it was superbly painted in Vert Argent by Gary at Cosmetic AutocareThe SM's first public appearance was on stage at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham to much applauseIt subsequently won a Concours d'Elegance trophy at the National Citroen event and was used by Jeremy Clarkson for a future 'Grand Tour' episode Begun in 1961, 'Project S' emerged from Citroen's requirement to develop a sports variant of the revolutionary DS. As was customary for the quirky French firm, many running concept vehicles were developed with increasingly complex and upmarket features to differentiate the 'sports' project from the popular DS. The acquisition of Maserati by Citroen in 1968 was motivated by the possibility of harnessing Maserati's high-performance engine technology to produce a true Grand Tourer, combining the sophisticated Citroen suspension with the power of a Maserati V6.The result was the Citroen SM, which was first shown to rapturous appreciation at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970. It went on sale in France in September of that year in left-hand drive only, although right-hand drive conversions were later offered in the UK and Australia. The SM was Citroen's flagship vehicle, competing with other high-performance GTs of the time from manufacturers such as Jaguar, Lotus, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo and Porsche. It was also Citroen's way of demonstrating just how much power and performance could be accommodated in a front-wheel drive design. As an example of Citroen's optimism and progressive technology, the SM was untouchable, and similarities drawn by pundits of the day to the design and futurism of aircraft such as Concorde cemented the love affair still borne by car aficionados today. The SM EFI was a two door, four seat coupé powered by a 2670cc, Maserati, four-cam, fuel-injected, 90-degree V6 producing 180bhp at 6,250rpm. all fed through the front wheels. It was capable of 0-60 in around 8 seconds and had a top speed in fifth gear of 140mph. Suspension was 'Hydropneumatic' and the steering was 'variable-assist' hydraulic. Everything about the car was complex. Many of us have admired the Citroen SM over the years and occasionally wondered what it would be like to own one without ever being brave enough to 'dip our toe in the water'. Wheeler Dealer Mike Brewer also shared this curiosity but the difference is, he jumped in 'feet first'. In Mike's own words;"Years ago, I was offered a very beaten Citroen SM, damaged on almost every panel, the engine in bits, it was a mess, but I have a deep fascination for the SM and its one of my must have cars so I bought it. The job of restoring such a complicated car can’t be done alone, and I’ve always said you have to choose your partners carefully, so I put a call out on the Citroen SM Owners Club and asked for experts to dig in and help me push this build.Thankfully I found the best in Nathan Bovington and his family at Paragon in Northampton. They helped me with the strip down, engine removal and parts sourcing. Parts were found all over the world, we even had parts manufactured as they weren’t available. Fortunately, around the corner from Nathan’s garage is one of the finest painters in the UK – Gary at Cosmetic Autocare. I asked Gary to deliver the best Concours paint job he could muster on, frankly, a car that never looked like it would be straight again.Once done, we presented the car on stage at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham. I remember when it drove on to the stage, there were audible gasps coming from the audience. It was an amazing feeling and the car then went on to win the Concours d'Elegance at the National Citroen meeting, so its fair to say it’s very nice car."Mike has now decided to reshuffle his collection and the SM was not being used on a regular basis so, reluctantly, he has decided to let it go. It's a well known car amongst SM enthusiasts and show goers and will be even better known when it airs on the small screen being driven by Mr Clarkson in a future 'Grand Tour' episode. This is a remarkable example of the rare SM, sympathetically restored and visually stunning. In Mike's own words "Whoever buys this car will have a car that’s been lovingly nurtured back to full health by an enthusiastic team of skilled craftsmen who made its temporary owner incredibly happy". .SpecificationMake: CITROËNModel: SM 2.7Year: 1972Chassis Number: 00SB8915Registration Number: MHV 700LTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 107268Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 38500 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: Brown LeatherClick here for more details and images
Fabulous 360 Spider in TDF with great history offered by Mike Brewer. This particular 360 Spider is a 2002-registered model originally supplied by Maranello Ferrari It's attractively finished in Tour De France Blu over a Beige and Blu interior Optioned from new with Daytona electric seats with Blu piping, CD-changer, Scuderia wing-shields, Aluminium brake calipers, front Challenge grilles, sat-nav system and rear parking sensorsExtensive service history, mostly Ferrari main dealers, with the two most recent by marque specialist ShiltechWhen purchased by Mike, the electric roof did not function properly but this has now been remediedFurther investment includes new Tie Rod Ends x4, 4 new Pirelli P-Zeros, suspension work and engine-bay detailing. The current mileage is 36,058 and this gorgeous 360 is on the buttonProduced between 1999 and 2005, the Ferrari 360 was the successor to the well-loved Ferrari F355, and to this day enjoys a loyal fanbase among Ferrari and supercar enthusiasts. With its Pininfarina-penned flowing lines, the 360 marked a significant design shift away from the angular nature of the F355, along with enjoying a lower unsprung weight, more powerful engine and an all-aluminium space-frame chassis which was reported to be 40% stiffer than its predecessors. The Modena was the first model to arrive in 1999, but the Spider was hot on its heels, being unveiled at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show. Due to the mechanics of the retracting roof, significant engineering changes were required for the Spider version, including enlarging the side air intakes and moving the inlet manifolds towards the centre of the engine. This particular 360 Spider is a 2002-registered model originally supplied by Maranello Ferrari and is finished in the attractive and timeless colour combination of Tour De France Blu over a Beige and Blu interior. It was optioned from new with Daytona seats with Blu piping, electric seats, CD changer, Scuderia wing shields, Aluminium brake calipers, front Challenge grilles, sat-nav system and rear parking sensors. It was purchased earlier this year by Wheeler Dealer Mike Brewer with 35,800 miles indicated and an invoice in the history file details the car's most recent service, prior to his purchase, which included a cam belt change and MOT by Shiltech Ferrari specialists to the tune of £4,369. This service also included a new battery, new track rod end inner boots, new air-flow meter, four new brake hoses, five lower ball joint boots and a new alternator belt in addition to the usual filter and fluid changes. Unfortunately, Mike found that the electric roof had an intermittent fault, however, this was quickly remedied and now works fine. Further investment by Mike includes four new Tie Rod Ends, four new Pirelli P-Zeros, suspension work and engine-bay detailing.Only for sale as Mike is re-shuffling his collection, this gorgeous Ferrari has currently covered just 36,058 miles and is 'on the button'. : SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 360 SPIDER F1Year: 2002Chassis Number: ZFFYT53C000129431Registration Number: AU02 PDKTransmission: Automatic (F1)Engine Number: 69960Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 36058 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Beige DaytonaClick here for more details and images
A special opportunity to acquire this remarkable one-off designed by Ant Anstead and his team at Dowsetts Classic Cars.Dowsetts Classic Car Company is the new trading name of the company formerly known as Evanta whose superbly built creations we have been privileged to offer in the pastThe Comet is built around a steel spaceframe chassis which is clothed in GRP reinforced with Kevlar to create a shell that is strong yet lightIts unique looks echo the classic lines of sports racers from the fifties and early sixties without becoming a pastiche of any one modelThey are entirely bespoke enabling potential owners to create exactly what they wantComet 02, on offer from its first owner, is powered by a General Motors LS3 V8, coupled to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differentialIt's finished in Porsche Crayon Grey, not an obvious choice for an evocative 6-litre fifties-style sports car but in execution, truly successfulIt sits on a set of alloy wheels that, like everything else about this remarkable car, are Dowsetts-designed and unique in the proper sense of the wordClad in red quilted leather, the car's interior reflects this same design philosophy and every nook and cranny appears to have been thought about and created to be special, and it is. Full harnesses, white-faced dials, a Moto-Lita wheel, turned aluminium stubby short-throw gear lever, satin-finished stainless details and embossed leather. Really impressiveWhilst Ant was naturally focussed on developing the car's dynamics, handling and road-holding etc., our vendor planned on using the car regularly so spec'd it with air-conditioning, Sat-Nav, a radio and a reversing-camera Having covered only 2,500 miles, a recent back injury means that our vendor sadly must now part with '02It's very sensibly guided and is now available at around half its build costHere at Silverstone Auctions we are pleased to have been able to help Ant Anstead and his passionate team at Evanta bring some of their fabulous fifties and sixties Aston Martin re-creations to the market. Evanta has recently morphed into the Dowsetts Classic Car Company and now stands proudly on its own design ethos building unique sports and GT cars, whilst still capturing the essence of the 1950s and ‘60s.Their current project is the Comet which, like other Dowsett models, is built around a bespoke steel spaceframe chassis. This is then clothed in GRP reinforced with Kevlar to create a shell which is strong yet light and, importantly, is suitable for limited production runs where tooling might otherwise be prohibitive. That said, it’s not a simple process, taking over 50 different mould tools to make the panels for a single Comet. The car’s shape is unique, in the proper sense of the word, but most viewers familiar with classic cars will identify references and styling cues that could well have come from legendary sports cars of the period, however, that was not intentional. Dowsetts’ Darren Collins comments “There are bound to be certain similarities. If you’re taking inspiration from a particular era, there are only so many ways in which it can be done. We’ve created something new, but there are clear nods to the era it evokes.” The second production car, Comet 02, on offer here from its first owner, is powered by a General Motors LS3 V8, coupled to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential. It's finished in Porsche Crayon Grey, not an obvious choice for an evocative 6-litre fifties-style sports car but in execution, truly successful and it sits on a set of alloy wheels that, like everything else about this remarkable car, are Dowsetts-designed. Clad in red quilted leather, the car's interior reflects this same design philosophy and every nook and cranny appears to have been thought about and created to be special, and it is. Full harnesses, white-faced dials, a Moto-Lita wheel, turned aluminium stubby short-throw gear lever, satin-finished stainless details and embossed leather. These cars are totally bespoke and whilst one owner may prefer a hard-edged Mille Miglia-style sports racer with no creature comforts, the buyer of ‘02’ planned on using the car regularly so spec'd it with air-conditioning, Sat-Nav, a radio and a reversing-camera. He was only able to enjoy some 2,500 miles in 02 before a recent back injury makes driving it really difficult. He has asked us to include a few words.“As I explained I got involved with Ant Anstead over four years ago and on visiting his workshop spotted the Barchetta (open top early version of the Comet) and fell in love with it. Ant had by then started work on the Comet and I agreed to buy number two – the first having already been purchased off plan by another client and is now in America with Ant who is trying to fit an electric motor in it so mine is still the only road going Comet in the world! The car is basically the dream car of Ant, mixing an Aston Martin front with a Ferrari back and some Lotus in the middle. Constructed much like the original AC Cobras squeezing a huge 6.2-litre Chevy engine into a bespoke, hand-built lightweight body. I spent many happy hours up at the workshop watching the car come together and worked with Ant and his team to specify some of the “luxury” additions not previously planned for the car (air conditioning, radio, sat.nav. and reverse camera) Ant looking to focus more on the performance and the track cred aspects of the car which I am pleased to say he achieved and then some! I have some personal photos of the build process for anyone interested and Dowsetts can provide more.I took delivery of the car after it had finished full road testing back in December 2018 but shortly after I injured my back requiring surgery. My back is now okay but I find the Comet too low and with a fixed seat I just cannot get comfortable and so have come to the difficult and sad decision to sell the car and let someone else enjoy it.”The Comet will be available for viewing prior to our NEC sale and we strongly urge interested parties to come and have a close look at this remarkable motor car.Click here for more details and images
Globe trotting, matching-numbers, single-headlight 330 GT 2+2 in fantastic shape with Classiche Certification. This left-hand drive, Series II has seen much of the worldPreviously restored in the United States of AmericaMultiple Concours award winner in the pastSignificant expenditure in recent years totalling over £20,000Ferrari Classiche CertificationThe cherished registration '33 OF' is included in the saleNB: Rear end crash damage in 2004. Professionally repaired and awarded a 'Classiche' at a later date. Any inspection welcomeThe Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 made its debut at the Brussels Salon in January 1964, proceeding its earlier 250 2+2 GTE and 330 America cousins. The Series I, as it later became known, was much more than a re-engined 250, it was a bolder, more distinctive incarnation in both looks and performance.Pininfarina was once again entrusted with the styling, and their vision of Ferrari's evolution drew muse from the cars' predecessors yet included some daring design elements. A sharper nose and tail, a wide grille, and the espousal of a characteristic quad headlight arrangement, all of which reflected the tastes of Ferrari's most important export market, the USA.Although some criticised its styling, the Series I four-headlight 330 GT has become truly evocative of 1960s fashion, lauded both for its individuality and Pininfarina's purity of design. The fantastic Gioacchino Colombo designed, high-output, V-12 engine was fitted to all 300 GT series and produced an impressive 300bhp, adorned with triple Weber carburettors, this combination taking the vehicle from 0-100km in an astounding 6.3 seconds, making it the fastest road-going Ferrari at the time.Series II cars from 1966 onwards reverted to a more conventional twin-headlight arrangement ditching the slightly awkward quad-headlights and aesthetically looked much better for it.This particular Series II has lived somewhat of a globe-trotting life throughout its history. Initially delivered to Italy, the car later made its way to the United States of America during the late 1970s, with records of it being for sale in Virginia, US during 1979.Subsequently, it travelled from state-to-state and underwent a full bare-metal repaint in Metallic Bronze (Nocciola Metallizzato) prior to winning numerous awards at prestigious Concours events in Pennsylvania, including ‘Ferrari of Execptional Merit’ at the 1988 Ferrari Festival, First in Class at a combined marques Concours, and several top-three finishes at various other events. Following this star-studded life in PA, the car then ended up in Mexico, before coming to Germany via Florida - where it was again restored with a colour change to Nero - and then going back across the world to Arizona, then down to Chile before being imported into and sold in the UK during 2015 to our vendor and current owner. In 2004, it was 'rear-ended' in the USA but was professionally repaired and subsequently inspected.A fantastic matching-numbers example, this 330 GT 2+2 has been significantly overhauled by marque specialist GTO Engineering, with the vendor commissioning a general mechanical ‘tidy up’ along with the fitment of a reconditioned steering box, new track rod ends, new clutch slave and master cylinders, a new exhaust and various other sundry items, with a total cost of £22,500.Along with the aforementioned work taking place at GTO, the car was also inspected and awarded Ferrari Classiche Certification at the same time.In recent years, the gearbox has been rebuilt by marque specialist QV London serving known weakness to synchromesh in 2020. The fuse box has been reconditioned following a non-charging issue, and the battery has been upgraded to a new deep-cycle AGM item, furthermore the radiator has been given a new core in 2017 and the interior has also been significantly overhauled and restored, with the leather seats and door cards being re-trimmed during 2016 by specialist Trimania.Offered with the fitting cherished registration of ’33 OF’ and with full Ferrari Classiche Certification, this 1966 left-hand-drive 330 GT 2+2 is in stunning condition throughout, and remains the envy of many drivers and enthusiasts to this day, just as it would have been in period.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 330 GT 2+2Year: 1966Chassis Number: 9315Registration Number: 33OFTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 9315Drive Side: Left-hand DriveMake: LHDInterior Colour: TanClick here for more details and images
UK-supplied in a fabulous colour combination and offered with a full Ferrari main dealer service history. The 612 Scaglietti is a 5.7-litre V12, 540bhp 2+2 Grand Coupe manufactured between 2004 and 2010, and cost some £182,952 in basic specification when newSupplied new by Carrs Ferrari of Exeter on 16th July 2006 in Tour De France Blue with a tan leather interior and dark blue carpetingOptions included split-rim modular alloy wheels, giallo (yellow) brake calipers, Scuderia wing badges and dark blue leather piping to the four seatsJust two Ferrari main dealers have serviced the car from new, Carrs and Graypaul, and the service book shows nine stampsRecently serviced by Graypaul of Nottingham on the 7th September 2021 at 27,807 miles, the “clutch life” was reported as 97%Offered to auction from a small Ferrari collection with leatherbound folder containing manuals and service book, invoices, brand new battery and an MOT valid until 12th August 2022The 612 Scaglietti is unique among its contemporaries and residual values reflect the car’s modern looks, luxurious interior and blistering performance in comparison. As a mark of respect for their decades-long working relationship, Ferrari named the 612 after the legendary Sergio Scaglietti, whose famous design house 'Carrozzeria Scaglietti' was responsible for the look of some of the most stunning coachbuilt Ferraris in the fifties and sixties. The design of the 612 is said to have been inspired by the 1954 Rossellini-Bergman custom 375MM, which was commissioned by film director Roberto Rossellini for his lovely wife, the actress Ingrid Bergman. The model features deep side scallops and large headlights together with a long, sleek silhouette and the result is an imposing, unusual looking car, projecting dynamism and power. This sporty front-engined, rear-wheel drive Berlinetta is a paradox Ferrari, being an energetic car to drive, yet also having four full seats for passengers, making it suitable for longer journeys and city use too. A genuine departure from previous GT models, the 612 Scaglietti's transaxle transmission sees the rear-mounted, six-speed, F1 gearbox working with the limited-slip differential in a shared function and this, combined with the first-ever all-aluminium body on a 12-cylinder Ferrari, makes for fantastic dynamics as well as improved comfort and safety. Supplied new by Carrs of Exeter on the 16th July 2006 in Tour de France Blue with tan leather, arguably the best colour combination for the model, the optional extras include split-rim modular alloy wheels, giallo (yellow) brake calipers, Scuderia wing badges and dark blue leather piping to the four seats. Our vendor added this delightful car to his small Ferrari collection in 2018, covering some 500 miles during his ownership to date. The MOT is valid until August 2022, the history file includes historical invoices and the leather-bound folder contains the service book and handbooks. Very few of the 612 Scaglietti’s mass-produced contemporaneous rivals have faired as well in the current market as this model. The 612’s classically modern styling, unmistakably Italian interior and smooth yet ferocious performance from the V12 engine and the silky six-speed automatic F1-style gearbox is without compare. 1 of only 22 UK RHD Ferrari 330 GTCs, a hugely capable and coveted GT car with the beating heart of a racer; matching numbers and now fully restored. This is among the finest GT cars of its generation; one that effortlessly marries performance and practicality with looks to die forJust 600 330 GTCs were built in total, with only 22 examples coming to the UK in right-hand drive3967cc ‘Tipo 209/66’ chain-driven V12 engine with single overhead cams per bank gives 300bhp and genuine 150 mph capabilitySubject of a 20-year full restoration to an exceptional level, this matching numbers car presents and performs to a top-class levelGTC 10547 is once again available for sale and represents an excellent opportunity to own one of the most appreciated 1960s V12 FerrarisThe 330 GTC Coupé was presented at the 1966 Geneva Salon, slotting in neatly between the 275 GTB and the 330 GT 2+2 within the line-up. Designed by Pininfarina’s Ido Bravarone, its elegant bodywork was reminiscent of the 500 Superfast at the front and the 275 GTS at the rear. Interestingly, the 330 GTC was unusual for a Ferrari of this time, in that it had a model badge on the boot lid, very few cars had any model identity, and those that did were normally ‘Speciales’. The 330 GTC was also notable for having slimmer, more graceful roof pillars, making for an airy cabin with excellent visibility, a design feature carried over to the later 365 GTC.Beneath the skin, the 330 GTC utilises the renowned ‘Tipo 209/66’ V12 engine, producing a very useful 300bhp and 288lb ft of torque at 5000rpm. With a displacement of 3967cc, blocks, heads and crankcase were cast in alloy but with iron liners in the block and a seven-main-bearing crank honed from solid steel billet - this was a hugely exacting and labour-intensive method of construction. Chain-driven – naturally – with single overhead cams per bank, carburation was by three twin-choke Weber 40DFIs straddling the 60-degree vee, and the compression ratio was 8.8:1.As with most Ferraris of the period, the 330 GTC’s design blended contemporary technology with time-honoured practices. Mounted, like the engine, on rubber bushes to reduce vibration, the five-speed transmission sat in-unit with the spiral-bevel final drive at the rear, with engine and transaxle joined by a torque tube. Suspension was by double wishbones, co-axial springs and KONI dampers all-round (with an anti-roll bar at either end), there were large disc brakes front and rear, and the steering was by worm-and-roller. The steel body was welded and bolted to the ladder/perimeter frame combo with a tendril-like multi-tubular structure giving supplementary support.Performance was brisk, a top speed of 152 mph and 0-60mph time of 6.5sec, with independent tests recording standing quarter-mile times in the mid-14sec range. And the press loved it, with ‘Car & Driver’ reporting: ‘'The GTC is a tasteful blend of the mean-and-low look of Ferrari competition GT cars, with the elegance of super-luxury street Ferraris of the past. Detail work, finish, panel fit, every aspect is superlative."Former works Ferrari driver Paul Frère, meanwhile, eulogised in Motor:"In handling, the 330 GTC is exactly like all the Ferraris I have driven before. It's as close to being neutral as one could want but the most impressive feature of the handling is the solidness with which it changes direction, particularly in S-bends, where it tracks with about the same precision as a modern race car." Coming from a former Le Mans winner, that was high praise. The Belgian ace went on to record two high-speed runs, with 146 mph being the quicker of the two, but noted that on both occasions there was still more to come when he was obliged to back off due to the inconsiderate appearance of other road users. The 330 GTC remained in production until the end of 1968, with 600 examples built, and of these only 22 were built in RHD configuration for the UK-market.The car presented here is 1 of those 22, chassis #GTC10547 is available for sale after a 20-year restoration, returned it to its former glory, perhaps better than it’s ever been. Its restoration has been overseen by our vendor, a skilled engineer and Italian car connoisseur of some 50-years standing. He has owned numerous prize-winning classic Ferraris over the years, some he has owned since the ‘60s and ‘70s. Only using artisan craftspeople to do any work on his cars, this 330 GTC is testament to his and their attention to detail. From the door cappings to the shut lines, the Borrani wheels, to the idle of the Colombo V12, everything must be just right!Prior to buying the car, some 20 years ago, it had been known to our vendor for several years, residing at the time in Sheffield with an Italian gentleman who had started to restore it. With all its parts, importantly, still together, the car was bought, and a labour of love began. Established early on as a matching-numbers car, thousands of hours, and much expense, have gone into making this 330 GTC fit for any collection. The Ferrari was repainted by renowned specialists 'Retford Autofinishers' in its original Blu Chiaro Metallica, whilst ‘GTB Restorations’ of Suffolk were entrusted with other work, all the chrome work was done by ‘Derby Plating’, considered one of the best-in-the-business (the most perfect-fitting window surrounds we have ever seen), whilst the trimming was done by a gentleman ‘you have to know, to know’, used by our vendor on several of his cars. The wheels were sent back to Borrani through Longstone Tyres, and ‘R&D Developments’ of Manchester were entrusted with a top-end engine refresh, new valves, guides, and seals (all 24), new timing chain, water pump seals, and a new clutch and pressure plate, with the carburettor ultrasonically cleaned and overhauled. Stunning, UK-supplied, right-hand drive F430 with just under 18,000 miles and that, oh-so-special, manual gearbox. The 430 was at least 70% new compared with the 360, with a more rigid aluminium structure, new engine, new differential and a brand-new chassisThe torque-rich, 483bhp, 4.3-litre V8 power unit offers 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and a maximum speed in excess of 196mphOnly 128 F430s (Coupe & Spider) were delivered to the UK in RHD with a manual gearboxThis fabulous, UK-delivered Spider is fitted with the rare and desirable manual boxSuperbly finished in the classic combination of Rosso Red paintwork with Crema leatherExcellent service history with just a handful of owners, and only 17,907 miles covered from newAccompanied by its complete book-pack in the leather-bound pouch, including a stamped-up service booklet and receipts for servicing/maintenance.Manufactured from 2004 until 2009, the Ferrari F430 was the successor to the very successful 360M and, according to its creators, was at least 70% new compared with the previous model, itself a ground-breaker. Its aluminium structure was more rigid than the 360's, it had a new engine, a new F1 gearbox, a new differential, and a brand-new chassis, and although the styling is obviously reminiscent of the 360M's, in reality, it's pretty much a ground-up design. Largely the work of Pininfarina, although overseen by Ferrari's design chief Frank Stephenson, the F430 still looks fresh today, more crisp-edged than the 360, with a strong hint of Enzo around the surface-erupting taillights. Its all-new 4.3-litre V8 engine, with four valves per cylinder instead of the 360's five, and chain camshaft drive instead of belts, with a consequent great reduction in service costs, has a variable-valve-timing system lifted straight from the Enzo's V12, dry-sump lubrication, a very high compression ratio (11.3:1), a variable airflow plenum chamber, and an enormous electronic brain making the decisions in the form of not one, but two, Bosch Motronic ME7 ECUs. At 483bhp, it boasts 21% more power than the 360, exceeding even that of the mighty (and turbocharged) F40, whilst the torque spread is extraordinary for an engine keen to howl beyond 8500rpm. All these factors contribute to a 0-62mph time of just 3.7 seconds and a maximum speed in excess of 196mph.The advancements continued with the 'Manettino', the steering wheel-mounted selector for stability systems, damping, shift speed, and throttle response. And there's the E-diff, whose calibrations this alters, a clever, clutch-controlled active differential that sorts out waywardness, not by inhibiting one rear wheel, but by pouring more torque into the other. Ferrari reckons it's worth 3.0 seconds a lap at the Fiorano test track, and it certainly helps make the F430 a far more forgiving machine than the 360, and a car of supremely subtle and keen responses. The open Spider version featured an electrically operated retractable roof, capable of folding away beneath the rear deck in only 20 seconds, whilst the fully leather trimmed interior - a visual feast - could be ordered with either aluminium or carbon fibre embellishment to customer choice. The car presented here is a UK-delivered, RHD 2004 F430 Spider, with the open-gate manual gearshift and was sold new via Carrs Ferrari of Exeter on the 30th September 2005. In the classic combination of Rosso Red with Crema leather, this exceptional car has covered just 17,907 miles from new. Kept and serviced with the utmost of care, this is one of the best examples of its type available currently. It is accompanied by its complete book-pack in the leather-bound pouch, including a stamped-up service booklet and receipts for servicing/maintenance.Servicing history:18th July 2008 – 5,742 miles – major service at Graypaul Ferrari of Nottingham3rd June 2011 – 11,690 miles – annual service plus four ball joints at Ferrari specialists Keys Motorsport Ltd. of Silverstone13th March 2012 – 12,348 miles – major service at Meridien Modena of Hampshire12th June 2014 – 15,375 miles – annual service at Meridien Modena of Hampshire19th August 2015 – 15,528 miles – annual service at Meridien Modena of Hampshire18th November 2016 – 16,899 miles - major service at Ferrari specialists Keys Motorsport Ltd. of Silverstone11th May 2018 – 17,245 miles – annual service plus manifold change and bushes at Italian supercar specialists GVE of LondonThe F430 manual has been much hailed as a potential future classic, occupying a unique space where old world Ferrari V8s meets the new. This example is accompanied by a substantial history file which contains a wealth of invoices for maintenance and remedial works over the years. Most recently it's been maintained by highly regarded Italian sports car specialist Italia Autosport. Also found within the file is a Maserati Certificate of Origin, original handbook, original logbook and the current V5c.Meraks are rarely seen on British roads as, although around 300 right-drive examples were originally produced, only 50 are believed to remain in the UK and, of those, just 17 are currently road registered. This example would have been one of the very last manufactured and the SS benefits from the more powerful 220 bhp V6 engine, revised interior and improved braking system. Supplied new to Sam Speed Garages of Manchester and first registered on 1st April 1983 originally finished in 'Marrone' (metallic brown), the car was professionally re-sprayed in its current 'Giallo Ginestra' around 2001. Dry-stored correctly ever since, the exterior remains in superb order and the original interior also presents very well thanks to a more recent freshen up.Revered in period for excellent performance and decent handling, today the Merak remains highly sought after, especially in right-hand drive form ,due to low production numbers, a low survival rate and, of course, the remarkable razor-sharp 70s styling from Ital Design. MOT until September 2022 issued with no advisories. Our vendor has generously agreed to leave the Cherished Registration 'R50 COB' with the carThe arrival of the Cobra MkIV in 1983 heralded a new era for AC with the Hurlock family passing on the rights to the marque to Brian Angliss, who had been building Autokraft Cobra replicas for years, using much of the original ’60s tooling. Now officially badged AC these cars were lauded for their high levels of build quality and retention of the original’s spirit. Of course, AC was a very different company by then and despite healthy order books and enthusiastic owners, especially in the USA, it was beginning to struggle financially. Original 5.8-litre (302cu in) powered cars were a little bit disappointing on the performance front, but AC soon launched a lightweight version, which restored the balance somewhat. However, Angliss' tenancy of the company didn't last long, his relationship with Ford was a little ‘bumpy’, and by the 1990s, he had thrown in the towel and the company had passed on to new owner Alan Lubinski. In 1996 the company was purchased by Pride Automotive and two new 'Cobra' style cars were launched in 1997, the 'Superblower', an aluminium-bodied car with a supercharged 4,942-cubic-centimetre (301.6ci) Ford V8 providing 326bhp and the cheaper 'Carbon Road Series' (CRS) with a carbonfibre body and a 225bhp version of the Ford V8 engine. A total of 22 Superblowers and 37 CRS models were built between 1997 and 2001 as confirmed by the 'AC Car Group'. Silverstone Auctions are delighted to be able to offer this striking AC Cobra, one of the most recognisable sports car profiles in the world. It's one of just 22 supercharged 'Superblower' models hand-built in sheet aluminium by skilled English craftsmen at AC Car Group in Brooklands using some of the original factory tooling. It's logical to assume that #ACSB 7001 was probably the first 'Superblower' finished considering its 1997 registration date and the fact that the other Superblowers that we have seen are somewhere between 7001 and 7022.The car is powered by a supercharged 5-litre (302ci) Ford V8 producing 326bhp/375lb.ft. and offering 0-60 in 4.5 secs and 155mph. This power is fed through a 5-speed manual Borg-Warner T50 box to a 3.31 final drive. It's superbly presented in gleaming Silver with twin stripes in Porsche Ruby Red enhanced by colour-coded, polished-rim Halibrands with 3-eared knock offs, a chrome roll hoop, chrome nudge bars, riveted bonnet air-scoop, chromed brass stone guards, Perspex sun-visors, side wind shields and a classic 'Carroll Shelby Motors' US-style number plate holder. The interior is equally impressive with Oxblood leather, matching carpets, Smiths cream-faced instruments in a silver panel and a bespoke Moto-Lita steering wheel. It's supplied with a Mohair half-tonneau, a leather half-tonneau, Factory hood and side screens, a fire extinguisher and a fitted indoor dust cover. Our vendor is the Cobra's third owner and the indicated mileage of a tad short of 6,100 miles is corroborated by the 18 MOT Certificates in the history file. It's taxed and MOT'd until September 2022 and our vendor has generously agreed to leave the Cherished Registration 'R50 COB' with the car. An AC leather Mont Blanc wallet contains all the information and relevant paperwork on the car from new. This is a beautiful motor car in lovely condition, it's very rare and, importantly it's a REAL AC Cobra. Having travelled quite a lot in, somewhat agricultural, early cars and enjoyed trips in various replicas some well engineered and some a lot less so, the single question that always awaits whenever you stop is "Is it a real one, mate". But in this case, instead of having to explain that it's a 'Dipstick Mark 3' or whatever, the undoubtedly enjoyable response will be "It certainly is". A nicely restored Series 3 Coupe upgraded with Fuel Injection and a Getrag 5-speed gearbox.Built on 16/12/1970 and delivered to San Mateo, California 31/01/1971Returned to the UK in 2009 and was first registered here on 21/10/2009Subject to a body-off restoration, right-hand drive conversion and mechanical rebuild by a marque specialist prior to our vendor's purchase around seven years ago. The specialist provided a complete photographic record of the workRefinished in its original British Racing Green with a black interior, however, since his purchase the interior has been completely retrimmed in light tan to a very high standard and looks fabulousMajor upgrades include Fuel Injection (replacing the carburettors), a Getrag 5-speed gearbox and a stainless-steel exhaustCurrent indicated mileage is 52,830. Good history from the last 20 years but little priorA decade after the original Jaguar E-type arrived, the design progressively matured through 1971 with the introduction of the Series 3. Designed to showcase the new smooth and torquey 5.3-litre engine, originally developed for Le Mans, the Series 3 cars were available as a 'Roadster' (convertible) or a '2+2' Coupe. The Series 3 is easily identifiable by its large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tyres, a larger bonnet bulge, updated bumpers, four exhaust tips, and a badge on the rear that proclaims it to be a V12. It also featured uprated brakes, power steering as standard and a large horizontal scoop added to the underside of the bonnet to assist with cooling. The interior was entirely new in the V12, with more comfortable seating, stylish new door panels and a smaller, dished and leather-rimmed steering wheel. Being slightly larger and altogether much softer in nature, the E-type in Series 3 form had lost the wildness of its youth but gained the long-legged touring profile, to which it was arguably better suited. This lovely Series 3 Coupé began life on the 16th December in left-hand drive and was shipped to Burlingame British Cars Inc.,65 California Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010 and onwards to its first owner, Howard Engelsher of 22 N. San Mateo Drive, San Mateo, CA 94401. The car returned from the US in 2009 and was registered as DDG 962J on 21/10/2009.Shortly afterwards it was subject to a body-off restoration, right-hand drive conversion and mechanical rebuild by a marque specialist who provided a complete photographic record of the work. The Jaguar was refinished in its original BRG and, at that point, had a Black interior. We understand that its original engine had been replaced by another of the correct type. It has been converted to fuel injection replacing the problematic Strombergs and the gearbox has been changed to a Getrag 5-speed unit, a common upgrade offering greater flexibility and economy. Our vendor purchased the car around seven years ago and commissioned a full interior retrim in Light Tan leather and the result is very impressive. The headlining was replaced at the same time. The combination of dark green paintwork, immaculate tan interior and gleaming chrome wire wheels really suits the Coupe's distinctive profile. The current indicated mileage is 52,830 but, naturally, this is not warranted as, although our vendor has lots of recent history, there is very little from its days in the US. However, that's fairly academic as the E-type has been fully rebuilt, retrimmed and regularly serviced and maintained. With the benefit of fuel injection and the 5-speed gearbox, this sporting +2 is both useful and eminently usable and appears very sensibly guided.SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: E-TYPE SERIES 3 V12 2+2 FIXED HEAD COUPEYear: 1970Chassis Number: 1S70415Registration Number: DDG 962JTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 8S84212SB Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 52830 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Tan leatherClick here for more details and images
"I am not a number, I am a free man".We are privileged to offer what is, undoubtedly, the most famous Mini Moke in the WorldHLT 709C is one of the two surviving Mokes used in the 1968 'Cult' TV series starring Patrick McGoohan and, of course, driven in the series by the man himselfFour Mini Mokes were converted by Wood & Pickett in the summer of 1966 for the Prisoner series, and transported to Portmeirion in September 1966The 850cc engine in HLT was replaced by a 998cc Cooper-spec unit at the time of the Wood & Picket conversionAfter filming concluded in 1967, the Moke fleet was dissipated and the history of HLT up until 2011 is a mystery, however, it turned up in a barn in Holland and was shipped to the UK prior to being purchased, in a very sorry state, by our vendor in 2015Although 2 Mokes survive from the filming back in 1966, this Moke (HLT) is the only one that is, beyond any doubt, used on screen. Due to a 'mistake' whilst filming the registration plate is seen .During its restoration, as much of the original shell was built into the replacement panels that make up the bodyshell, as well as the front bulkhead, the screen frame, bonnet, cross-member, 2 seats, dash and other parts were repaired and usedThe distinctive striped canvas top and seat covers had to be reproduced but, pleasingly, the original 'Penny Farthing' motif, although aged, remains on the bonnet to this daySince its completion by our vendor, HLT has had International magazine coverage and was subject to a several page feature in 'MiniWorld ' magazine as well as being the cover star in the September 2018 issueIt's fitting that HLT's first post-restoration day out was an emotional trip back to Portmeirion and according to our vendor “When I took the car back to The Village and drove it past those famous buildings, I really got the sense that it had come home.”“The Prisoner” was a 17-episode British TV series first broadcast in Canada beginning on 6th September 1967, in the UK on 29th September 1967, and finally in the US on 1st June 1968. It stars and was co-created by Patrick McGoohan and combines 'spy fiction' with elements of science fiction, allegory and psychological drama. The series follows a British former secret agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village resort, where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. Although the show was sold as a thriller in the mould of the previous series starring McGoohan, Danger Man (1960–68), its combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surrealistic setting had a far-reaching influence on science fiction and fantasy TV programming, and on narrative popular culture in general. Four Mini Mokes were said to have been converted by Wood and Pickett in the summer of 1966 for the Prisoner series, and transported to Portmeirion in September 1966. Each were subtly different, and parts and fittings were swapped around during the course of filming. Some of the Mini Mokes, if not all, were later returned to London for use in studio filming. CFC 916C and HLT 709C were both involved in the filming (the first having been owned by Max Hora the once proprietor of the Prisoner shop at Portmeirion) however HLT is the only one that is, beyond any doubt, used on screen. The Mokes' registration numbers were normally covered by a plate reading “Taxi” but on one occasion they were left off by mistake and HLT can clearly be seen in the episode entitled ‘Living in Harmony’ driven by actor David Bauer as No.2. The car itself is seen extensively being driven by McGoohan in numerous episodes notably 'Arrival' and 'Many Happy Returns'.After filming concluded in 1967, the Moke fleet was dissipated and the history of HLT up until 2011 is largely unknown. What is known, however, is that it spent some time in the Sheffield area in the early 1970s, and that later in the decade it was privately exported to The Netherlands. The vehicle resurfaced several years ago, having been found in a barn in Holland, and returned to the UK where it was sold at auction in 2015. Its buyer was our vendor Phil Caunt together with his friend and fellow Moke enthusiast Jeremy Guy. At that time, its condition could be best described as challenging. The engine was not functioning, and the bodywork was in a dire state, but at least the roof and, crucially, the Penny Farthing motif on the bonnet were in situ. The latter was created by McGoohan as “an ironic symbol of progress”.Over the following two years Phil with the invaluable assistance of various specialists, laboured to restore the Moke to the wonderful condition in which you find it today. “The mechanical side was relatively easy,” he says, “but I wanted to keep as much of the original body as possible. Given the state of the car, it would have been easier to buy a new shell, but that would have undermined the authenticity of the car.” The entire structure was acid-dipped, resulting in the once Spruce Green engine bay now being coloured white. From our vendor. "The Chassis (Bodyshell) was substantially rotten when discovered in 2011, During my restoration as much of the original shell as possible, including the bulkhead, was built into the replacement panels that make up the bodyshell ,as well as the front bulkhead, the windscreen frame, bonnet, cross-member, 2 seats, dash and other parts were repaired and used. The roof frame is original but the back vertical frame is a replacement, obviously all the vinyl has been replaced (I had to have this printed myself as no-one supplies it any more). The number plates are original from 1965 as is the iconic Penny Farthing logo on the bonnet.”In terms of the interior, the car did come with some vestiges of the Wood & Pickett ‘wood’ trim remaining but “It resembled Click here for more details and images
An original ex-Metropolitan Police Daimler Dart, a rare survivor and restored to a Concours standard.550 CLU is one of only 26 Daimler Darts supplied to the Metropolitan PoliceIt’s had a full nut and bolt restoration to Concours standards and is a multi-award winnerFull photographic details of the restoration are contained in the history fileThe die cast 1/43rd scale model made by Oxford is of this actual car and number plateSupplied with the car is an original Owners' Handbook, Supplement of Accessories, period photographs of the car in service, newspaper clips, V5C and old MOTs and tax discs etcThis Daimler is a must for any collector/investor and needs to be viewed to fully appreciate the finish and detail that has gone into its fastidious restoration. An unusual departure for a firm more noted for its stately limousines, the SP250 sports car was Daimler's final fling before its acquisition by Jaguar. Aimed at the North American market and launched in 1959, the SP250 (originally entitled Dart) employed a separate ladder-type chassis on which sat controversially-styled fibreglass coachwork manufactured by Daimler themselves. Four-wheel disc brakes were an unusual feature at the time but unquestionably the car's biggest virtue was its magnificent 2.5-litre V8 engine. An outstandingly flexible unit, the smaller of Daimler's two Edward Turner designed V8s produced 140bhp, an output good enough to propel the SP250 to a top speed of 125mph. In keeping with the demands of its intended market, automatic transmission was available as an option. In the late 1950s, the Metropolitan Police had a major problem with, what were called, 'café racers'. Groups of youths on motorbikes would gather together at a local café, put a record on the jukebox and then race their bikes along a set course getting back to the café before the record had stopped playing. Accidents occurred and in an attempt to put a stop to the practice, the Met’s proposal was to have a fast car that could actually catch the bikers. The existing fleet of Wolseley saloons was not up to the task so they looked instead at sports cars. The Daimler SP250 Dart was the answer! This had a 2.5-litre lightweight V8 engine and was capable of 125 mph and 0-60 in 10 seconds, which for 1959 was remarkable. The Met bought 26 Darts between 1961 and 1964 and soon got them into service to be used as high-speed pursuit cars based at separate Traffic Garages situated over the London area. The results were impressive with many speeding bikers being caught and the number of fatal road accidents dropped. Unlike today, the idea then was that you see a Police car and thereby slow down...no stealth tactics for these boys.Borg-Warner Model 8 3-speed automatic cars destined for Police use were modified by Daimler with the fitting of a handle in the centre of the dashboard which, when pulled, locks the gearbox into second gear allowing a speed range from zero to 85 mph in a single gear. The gearbox normally runs in two gears only, with a ‘low’ ratio for manual selection if required and the slightly higher gearing resulted in an increased top speed compared to manual gearbox cars. The Metropolitan Police found this to be better for town work and high speed chases, and it was also found to be more economical, avoiding the clutch wear that a manual car would develop with usage between 18 and 24 hours a day.Traffic police in Bristol, Cambridge, Liverpool, Manchester, Southend and Surrey also used the SP250 for speed enforcement, as did police forces in Australia and New Zealand. After the opening of the first section of the M1 in 1959, the Bedfordshire police used the SP250 for motorway patrol prior to the arrival of the 70mph limit in 1965.The sparkling example on offer here, 550 CLU, was registered with the Metropolitan Police on 1st June 1961 as Fleet Number 240T. It bears Engine No.96223, Chassis No.102820 and was fitted with the optional Borg-Warner DG. Automatic gearbox, an AT Head Calibrated Speedometer and Pye Radio equipmentThe Met disposed of 550 CLU on 30th August 1967, having been driven 97,325 miles in less than five years and it was sold on to a Mr Killamsy of 2 Winter Street, London SW11. (Copy record in file). It was subsequently purchased by Claude Kearley, President of the Daimler SP250 Owners Club (2007-2009) who commenced a photo-documented restoration including engine, gearbox and drive train to Concours standards. It became our vendor’s property in 2016 and has been much enjoyed ever since, taking part in all sorts of events and is a multi-award winner including 2nd place in the 2017 East Coast Run and 1st Place, Sledmere 2017. It’s been an NEC exhibit three years running and was to be an entrant in Zoute Concours d ’Elegance prior to the COVID lockdown. When ‘Oxford Diecast’ chose to model a Police SP250 for their 1/43 scale range, 550 CLU was the chosen car.Supplied with the car are its V5C and previous ownership docs, a copy of the Met Historic Fleet Disposal Records, period copy photographs of actual use when in service, press cuttings, photos of surviving drivers (at 2013), MOTs, Owners’ Manual, Accessories Manual and more. This Daimler is a must for any collector/investor and needs to be viewed to fully appreciate the finish and detail that has gone into its fastidious restoration.Obviously this immaculate Dart can be enjoyed in much the same way that we all enjoy our classic cars but, in addition, it’s regularly in demand for meets and shows and would be welcome at events run by the Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club, the Daimler Dart Owners Club, the Police Vehicle Club and naturally local County Shows and Village Fetes. A left-hand drive, German-market, 996 GT3 with only 74,105km from new.On offer from private ownership, an homage to the iconic livery of the German PolizeiIt's basically a standard 996 GT3 with the graphics and lights etc. fitted by its owner355bhp, 3.6-litre engine, communicative chassis, superb brakes, perfect control weighting, precise steeringThe famous Polizei cars were modelled by Corgi Toys and Scalextric74,105km from new. Graphics easily removable leaving a very attractive, low mileage GT3Intended primarily for competition, although still fully road legal, the Porsche 911 GT3 can trace its ancestry all the way back through a succession of high-performance models to the legendary 911 Carrera RS of 1973. The car takes its name from the FIA's GT3 category of production sports car racing and has been produced in a variety of versions since its introduction in 1999 when the GT3 badges were applied to the Type 996 iteration of the perennial 911.The 3.6-litre flat-six engine, though, departed from mainstream Type 996 practice by virtue of its water-cooled cylinders, leaving only the heads cooled by air. Called the 'Metzger' engine after its designer, Hans Metzger, this unit was closely related to that of the Porsche 962 'Sports Prototypes' and the 911 GT1 racer. In the GT3 it produced 355bhp, 59 horsepower more than in the standard 996, which was delivered to the wheels through a strengthened gearbox boasting interchangeable ratios. To make the GT3 fit for circuit use, the brakes, suspension, and wheels were uprated to cope with the substantial increase in performance, whilst aerodynamic downforce was enhanced by a larger front air dam and a distinctive rear spoiler. Weight reduction extended to the removal of the rear seats and most of the sound deadening, rear speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, though the latter could be ordered as an option, as could a CD/radio. In its original Type 996 incarnation, as seen here, the 911 GT3 was produced up to 2006.Offered from private ownership is this homage to the iconic livery of the German Polizei. Police forces around Europe have famously used performance cars as a way of raising the profile and effectiveness of policing public roads and the Germans were no exception, in fact, their distinctive livery became a 'brand' with both Scalextric and Corgi producing models which sold throughout Europe. This particular, left-hand drive, 996 GT3 was purchased privately and graphics applied together with lights to emulate the famous police 911s. What began as just a bit of fun actually became a tool for a UK Police Force to promote young driver awareness courtesy of the owner at the time. This GT3 has travelled just 74,105km and, should drawing attention to yourself not be 'your thing', then the graphics and lights can easily be removed and the car returned to a very attractive, low mileage Porsche GT3.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911Year: 2000Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ99ZY5691356Registration Number: V313 TAWEngine Number: 63Y01813Click here for more details and images
An absolutely stunning example of the coveted 3.3-litre 964 Turbo. In current ownership for 16 yearsExtensive history and expenditureLimited use in recent years, kept for dry days onlyFastidious ownershipFollowing the roaring success of the 930-era 911 was always going to be a challenge for Porsche, though with the 964 of 1989, it’s safe to say they not only met, but exceeded their expectations.Representing a significant redesign over the preceding generation, yet retaining trademark 911 styling cues such as the classic sloping front end and iconic side profile, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 2 models were introduced in 1989 and 1990 respectively, with an air-cooled M64 3.6-litre flat-six engine. Interestingly, the 964 era was the first 911 generation to offer the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 model in the lineup, and also the first to employ the automatic Tiptronic transmission as an option for those looking for a more relaxed driving experience.Further updates over the 930 included the fitment of power steering and ABS as standard, signifiant revisions to the suspension setup with coil springs and shock absorbers replacing the torsion bar setup of its predecessor, and the front and rear bumpers were integrated with the body shell for improved aesthetics and aerodynamics. With the success of the C2 and C4 models came the introduction of the coveted Turbo model in 1990, offering all of the aforementioned 964 upgrades, but featuring a revised version of the 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six engine found in the 930 Turbo due to Porsche not having enough R&D time to implement a turbocharged version of the M64 engine seen in the C2 and C4. Nonetheless, the engine had been significantly upgraded and fettled to sit within buyers expectations, with the result being a power output of 316bhp.This particular 964 Turbo is an early 3.3-litre, UK-delivered, C16, sunroof-fitted car finished in Guards Red, a colour which is not only synonymous with the 911 Turbo, but also suits the flowing lines of the 964 very well indeed. In the care of its current owner for an impressive 16 years, this 964 Turbo has been the recipient of extensive work throughout its lifetime, and has covered less than 6,000 miles within the last 10 years, as evidenced by the MOT history.Within the history folder is a reassuring quantity of OPC and Porsche Specialist invoices, pertaining to both service work and minor maintenance carried out on the vehicle, with the earliest invoices dating back to 1999, and the stamped service record stretching back to when the car was new.Whilst in its current ownership, the car has been serviced semi-regularly, and highlights of other work carried out include the following:Upgraded Bilstein/H&R supensionFront seat re-trim to factory specification, with new carpets fitted throughoutNew sunroof seals and stone guardsNew front discs and rear tyresIn addition to the above, the car has also been resprayed in its factory Guards Red paintwork to a very high standard during 2007, and remains in excellent condition to this day thanks to a combination of fastidious ownership and low mileage covered since the paintwork took place. Offering the opportunity to obtain a highly coveted yet usable example of the classic 964 Turbo finished in arguably one of the best factory colour schemes available, this 1991-registered example benefits from long-term ownership and an impressive history folder, and will appeal to collectors, enthusiasts and drivers alike.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911Year: 1991Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ96ZMS471886Registration Number: J547 JFMTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 61M02901Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 90261 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Linen LeatherClick here for more details and images
The diminutive 914, fully restored and sparkling in Sunflower Yellow. The Porsche 914 (also called the 'VW-Porsche 914') was a joint effort between the two companies to produce a modern sporting car to replace the four-cylinder 912 This is a delightful, fully restored example of the last affordable air-cooled PorscheComprehensive history file covering the car's entire backstoryRestoration included an engine rebuild, new interior and upgraded 1974 alloy wheelsMechanical works completed by experts Williams Crawford and Roger Bray RestorationsFull photographic record of the restoration to its original period colour of Sunflower YellowBy the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupé to replace the Karmann Ghia. At the time, the majority of Volkswagen's developmental work was handled by Porsche, part of a set up that dated back to Porsche's founding. Volkswagen needed to contract out one last project to Porsche to fulfil their end of the deal, and decided to make this that project so Ferdinand Piech, who was in charge of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of the 914 project. It was originally intended to sell the vehicle with a flat-four cylinder engine as a Volkswagen and with a flat-six engine as a Porsche, however, Porsche decided during development that having both companies sharing the same body would be risky for business in the American market, and convinced Volkswagen to allow them to sell both versions as Porsches in North America. On March 1, 1968, the first 914 prototype was presented, however development became complicated after the death of Volkswagen's chairman, Heinz Nordhoff, on April 12, 1968. His successor, Kurt Lotz, was not connected with the Porsche dynasty and the verbal agreement between Volkswagen and Porsche fell apart. However, in the end it didn't really matter and over the seven years of the model's life, the 914 would outsell the 911 and eventually find over 118,000 homes.Presented here we have a charming, well restored Porsche 914 finished in striking period Sunflower Yellow with a Black interior. The body plate confirms it was built at the Karmann factory in Osnabruck West Germany in January 1974 and the comprehensive history file provides a complete timeline through to various Porsche magazine features in 2020.This story begins with the car being delivered to Porsche of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. The comprehensive accompanying history file notes that the final US owner was Mr. Ewbank, who as a younger man had been a test driver for Porsche USA. The plan was to completely restore the 914 but ill health prevented him, and his wife ended up selling the car (letter on file with a copy of US Title).RRT 141M was first registered in the UK in 1996 and owned by a Mr. O’Rourke and his family for the next 12 years. It was under the ownership of the next owner, a Mr. Nie, that the Porsche finally got the restoration it was promised including a full bare-metal respray in its original seventies colour of Sunflower Yellow. The works included a new interior, new wiring harness and new upgraded (1974-stamped) alloys. There are receipts detailing all the other work undertaken in the truly impressive history files which also includes a full photographic record of the renovation. An enormous amount was spent at 'Raw Speed' engine builders to increase the capacity to 2000cc but retain the original engine number(013124). Further mechanical works have been completed by Williams Crawford and Roger Bray Restorations and full details of this are in the file alongside multiple invoices, two magazine features and a full album of photographs.914s are now the last of the affordable air cooled Porsches and combine period charm, uncomplicated engineering and versatile fun motoring. An exceptional 993 C2 with one lady owner and circa 12,000 miles from new.C16 UK supplied 911 993 C2 TiptronicOne lady owner and circa 12,000 miles covered from newFinished in Black Metallic with a superb Biscuit interiorAdditional specification includes rear wiper, top tint windscreen, air conditioning, sunroof and the Tiptronic 'S' gearboxContinual main dealer history with full book pack, invoices and MOT CertificatesIn exceptional condition throughout and fastidiously maintainedPlease note that the private registration number ‘M1 POC’ will remain with the vehicleIn 1993 Porsche introduced what is regarded by many as the most beautiful 911 of all: the Type 993. Over the years the 911 has received numerous aerodynamic and safety-inspired add-ons, diluting the purity of the original form, however, the Type 993's arrival marked a return to basic principles, being recognisably a 911 but one in which all functions had been harmoniously integrated in a truly outstanding example of modern automotive styling. The range offered remained pretty much as before, comprising conventional two-wheel (Carrera 2) and four-wheel drive (Carrera 4) models, the legendary Turbo and the Cabriolet convertible, all powered by the latest, 3.6-litre version of Porsche's perennial flat-six engine. The Carrera, Carrera S, Cabriolet and Targa models (2WD) were available with a 'Tiptronic' four-speed automatic transmission. On offer from its one lady owner with circa 12000 miles from new and in truly outstanding condition throughout, this Metallic Black, UK-supplied C16, Porsche 911 (993) C2 with an exquisite Biscuit interior has clearly been cherished from day one and cannot be confused with the many average examples on the market today. An impressive service history details continual main dealer involvement alongside an unquestionable MOT record with the present certificate being current until the 1st February 2022. It was most recently serviced in May this year which included a Porsche 111-point check and the fitting of four new tyres due to age and not wear! An increasingly desirable modern classic with unrepeatable provenance that will be difficult if not impossible to replicate, it is quite simply outstanding and, pleasingly, the very appropriate Cherished Registration Number, M1 POC will remain with the car. Your search may well be over. Please note that the current recorded mileage is 6844, our client believes that there was a speedo fault in 2003 at circa 5,400 miles necessitating a speedo change with the recorded mileage zero' d at that time, amounting to the circa 12,000 miles covered from 1st date of registration as stated above.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 C2Year: 1995Chassis Number: WPOZZZ99ZSS313643Registration Number: M1POCTransmission: TiptronicEngine Number: 63551826Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 6000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Tan hideClick here for more details and images
Recently completed, no-expense spared restoration and it shows. With the Mk 2, the rear suspension was re-engineered to use reversed lower wishbones and Rotoflex driveshaft couplings, revolutionising the Mk 1's somewhat wayward handling Family owned from new being purchased from Otterspool Motors, Liverpool in November 1969 The first owner, Jack Coburn Witherop, was a landscape painter of some repute exhibiting at The National Gallery, The Royal Academy as well as further afield in America and South Africa Recent exhaustive restoration by Specialised Automotive Services (SAS) of Sabden in Lancashire whose portfolio covers Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Ferrari through to repainting current McLaren supercarsThe rebuild was carried out between 2008 and 2016 with final finishes and adjustments completed in 2018 and 2019. Rebuild costs amount to some £97,000 !!! There will be few, if any other GT6s anywhere in the world that have such provenance, pedigree and a rebuild of such quality. This stunning GT6 Mk 2, splendidly presented in Damson, was bought new by Jack Coburn Witherop on 27th Nov 1969 from Otterspool Motors, Liverpool, who were Standard Triumph Dealers at the time and, incredibly, remains within the same family to this very day. Jack Coburn Witherop was a landscape painter of some repute, exhibiting at the National Gallery and the Royal Academy, and the Triumph was his pride and joy being pressed into service on a regular basis and maintained regardless of cost until ill health curtailed his driving days. At that point, the car was passed onto his brother, Arthur, in 1980, who in turn bequeathed it to his grandson, the present owner, in January 1991. Due to financial constraints and pressures of work as a young oral surgeon, the car was stored until family time and resources were sufficient to justify a complete restoration. Commencing in 2008 in the hands of Dave Warburton, Specialised Automotive Services (SAS) Sabden, Lancashire, a prolonged no-expense-spared rebuild followed, ‘’If it was going to be done, it was to be done right’’ and indeed some eight years later there was light at the end of the tunnel with this breathtaking GT6 emerging as it stands today. Invoices provide an insight into circa £97,000 of expenditure and what must surely be one of the finest examples to exist today. Completed to the very highest of standards from the acid dipped chassis to the balanced engine with fast road cam, to stainless manifold and exhaust, rebuilt gearbox, uprated cooling system, poly-bushed suspension, high torque starter and alternator, the list goes on. For safety a bolt-in roll cage was added along side period style Corbeau seats, however, with the original seats remaining with the car, these additions can be very easily be reversed. The quintessential British Classic, like a ray of sunshine on a grey day.1958 Triumph TR3A finished in Signal Red with a classic black interiorImported to the UK from Maryland in 1967. Import paperwork with the carThe canvas soft-top and black removable hardtop are very presentable and in good working order.Previously owned by a TR Register Member who maintained it to very high standardLooked after for many years by Bridge Classic Cars in Suffolk Good history file Recent full service, fuel line replacement and some attention to the electrics Long famed for their rugged reliability and idiosyncratic good looks, the 'side screen' TRs have attracted a fanatical following over the years. The final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. It was never officially badged as such and was, in fact, a minor revision of the TR3 with updates including a new wide grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot and a full tool kit. Great fun to drive, its tough box-section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and disc/drum brakes. (The first British production car to have front disc brakes as standard). Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing around 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 110mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition. This is a fine example of the ever popular Triumph TR3A finished in Signal Red with a classic black interior having been previously owned by a TR Register Member who maintained it to very high mechanical and cosmetic standard as the car was regularly used in TR Register events. The bodywork appears clear of corrosion with no visual signs of any defects and excellent shut lines and the paintwork retains a deep and even shine. The black leather interior is classic TR3 and in excellent condition with a little gentle patination in the places you might expect. The car sits on steel wheels and both its canvas soft-top and black removable hardtop are very presentable and in good working order.Included in the Triumph’s extensive and well documented history are Import Papers dating back to 1967, when it returned to the UK from Maryland, invoices for parts etc. dating back over the last 25 years from leading suppliers such as Moss Europe, John Skinner and TR GB, an extensive MOT history, various manuals and the original instruction book (3rd edition). Most recently, in 2020, it had a full service, fuel line replacement and some attention to the electrics at the renowned Bridge Classic Cars in Suffolk who ensured, after numerous road tests, that UFF 787 is a joy to drive. They have looked after the car for many years and describe it as "Absolutely genuine and really lovely".The complete range of Fifties and Sixties TRs continue to be undervalued for what they offer in terms of lively reliable performance, great availability of parts and the simple fact that they are good-looking, charismatic old British sports cars. This fine, cared for TR is ‘on her toes’ both mechanically and bodily and seems incredibly appealing at this guide. It’s believed by our vendor that the car was retained by the factory for some development work but that hasn’t been established. Whatever its early history, the Tiger has more recent Manx Rally and Sprint history and lived on the Isle of Man for some time in the late 70s to late 80s registered as 644 SPB. We understand that it was fitted with an engine built by Steve Burns to ‘Sprint’ spec (Steve was Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club Competitions Secretary at the time). It was subsequently sold to Peter Marshall who returned it to EHP 171C during his ownership. The current chapter of this Tiger’s tale began in 2015 when it was purchased by our vendor since when it has been through a comprehensive, ground-up, ‘rotisserie’ restoration by Miles Classics Huddersfield, Alpha Auto Concepts, and John Sleath Racing Doncaster. The cars History File can be inspected at our ‘Documents Desk’ and within the file are restoration invoices to the value of over £88,000 alongside a splendid collection of images displaying exactly where it went. The engine was been fully rebuilt as a fast-road spec by JSR Doncaster and dyno tested at 282.9bhp. New fast-road clutch, headers, hp radiator and header tank, larger fan, MSG electronic ignition and Holley 600cfm carb/air filter – all new. 'Powered by Ford' painted rocker-covers, Kenlowe twin electric fans and silicone hosing throughout. It also has a shatter proof bell-housing fitted and Lockheed servo-assisted brakes. There is evidence of the car’s race history with a solid firewall in the boot rather than the curtain as standard and the original battery cut-off has been retained and re-located in the boot. The gearbox tunnel is also modified to receive the ‘top loader’ Hurst Super Sifter with reverse lock-out, again still fitted to the car.The Tiger’s interior is really special as can be gleaned from the relevant invoice; “Retrim Tiger interior in Saddle Tan Bentley leather, including seats, doors, dash and various panels. Make new stereo housing console and speaker footwell panels. Fit sound deadening and install new carpets and underlay throughout. Full boot interior retrim including panels, battery cover and wheel cover. Fit mohair hood to frame and fit fixing to car body. Trim hardtop headlining and make hood bag. Total invoice price: £9,900.”The same attention has been paid to the Sunbeam’s exterior and it now looks fabulous in a deep Cherry Black with a matching hardtop and sitting on a set of period Halibrands. The car is STOC registered and has been featured in the Tiger Times, Rallye Sport, and many Classic magazines. It’s accompanied by the original Green Logbook showing its ownership up to 1973, a full photographic history of the rebuild, receipts/bills etc, tons of history, workshop manuals, original copies, spare parts and more. A full engine spec is available on request. Our vendor has invested more than £110,000 in this remarkable motor car which makes the current guide seem very sensible. The luxury version was launched in March 1970 as the 3000E and was the fastest car that Ford Britain had ever sold and, next to the 3000GT, it was the model that all Capri owners aspired to. Ford's marketing was in full swing with a motorsport program that was sweeping all aside on the race circuits of Europe. "'Win on Sunday, sell on Monday'' was paying dividends for Ford and this superbly equipped, for its time, 3.0-litre V6 version was hugely desirable. This rare, UK-supplied 3000E Automatic was fitted with the same Essex V6 engine as the GT and produced 138bhp. Finished in Evergreen Metallic, a rare colour in period with a Tan interior, this model sports the cloth centre inserts in the seats unique to the 3000E. Over more recent times, it's been treated to a pair of new front wings and a quality repaint in Evergreen. Produced by Rover Special Products in conjunction with John Cooper Garages, this particular ‘S’ was used for extensive testing to develop the John Cooper S-conversion which was available on the limited RSP model and the mainstream Cooper. It was used as a high speed test car being driven at a constant 90 mph for 20,000 miles on the German Autobahn resulting in the Cooper S conversion being given official backing by Rover. Signs of those testing times still remain in place such as the fire extinguisher, carried by all Rover test cars, and the temperature sensing stickers on the gear box tunnel and in the engine bay. Once its job was completed the car was sold to RSP employee Gavin Hall who confirmed the history of the Mini including obtaining written proof from Mike Cooper, then Managing Director of John Cooper Garages Ltd. Featured in Mini World in 2001, then in the hands of Charles Shearn, the car has remained in superb condition throughout, with little use in recent times, hence a comprehensive recommissioning has just taken place bringing this little mule back to its former glory. 'Doris' is looking for a new home. This ex-Motor Museum Trabant with only 12,932km is offered at No ReserveAn East German imported around the time of the wall coming downBuilt in 1985, and UK Registered in 1992 Just two family keepers. Good amount of history Long MOT, two sets of keys as well as previous MOTs and original book packThe Trabant P601 was produced by VEB Sachsenring in Saxony in a long production run from 1963 to 1991 and accordingly it was the most well known Trabant with over 2.8M ‘Trabis’ finding homes, East Germany’s answer to West Germany’s VW Beetle ‘people’s car.’Affordable and cheap to run (by Western standards) nevertheless the design displayed elements of foresight including the ‘modern’ front-wheel drive, all round independent suspension, a low maintenance engine and unitary construction. The main let down was the dated two-stroke engine that continued in production in the absence of any development budget well past its natural lifespan. Costing an eye-drying 8,500 DEM (German Marks) or £3,600 in later production years, there was often a 10-year wait to purchase a new one. This fine 25bhp example of the marque is affectionately known as ‘Doris.’ She was declared manufactured in 1985 but first registered in the UK in 1992 and the odometer reading of 12,932 km is believed to be correct but obviously not warranted (who knows where Doris has been). With only two previous UK keepers, Doris resided for many years in a Scottish motor museum before being acquired and lovingly recommissioned by the current owner who has replaced many of the hard-to-source parts direct from Germany and who, over the past decade of ownership, has fastidiously maintained Doris to a very high standard. Lightly used of recent times having covered less than 1,000km in the last four years, she is reluctantly being offered for adoption.Offered at 'No Reserve' and supplied with a long MOT, new battery, two sets of keys, previous MOTs, original book pack and a good amount of history, Doris is surely the best ‘Trabi’ available on the market today.A rare opportunity to acquire a real 20thC East European-state, socio-economic ‘retro’ design icon that is fast becoming highly sought after and very desirable. This characterful little car is a real head turner wherever she goes so may no longer be appropriate for the Trabi's traditional roles of spying or defecting.SpecificationMake: TRABANTModel: P601Year: 1985Chassis Number: 3428509Registration Number: B368DRSTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 6342677Drive Side: Left-hand DriveMake: LHDClick here for more details and images
An incredible opportunity to acquire one of Audi's Super Saloons with just 217 miles from new.Audi's ultimate A4, the RS4, is powered by 4.2-litre V8 engine generating 414bhp. With 60mph arriving in less than five seconds accompanied by a howling soundtrack from the FSI engine and its four exhaust pipes, driving one is an intoxicating experience This remarkable example has been owned and stored by its first owner and his father for most of its life and has covered a warranted 217 milesFinished in Mugello Blue, a striking deep mineral blue that varies in intensity with the lightClassic RS cockpit in black, immensely comfortable yet totally functionalThe only evidence of its long period of storage is some, almost imperceptible, pitting of some of the external chrome. Our vendor has replaced the front grille (original with the car) and has new badging yet to be fitted. Our advice was not to fit the badging as keeping the 217-mile car absolutely original is important but the parts are with the car should the new owner want to fit themInspected by Audi, it will come to the sale in almost the same condition as it was presented to its first keeper nearly 15 years agoWith many earlier eighties and nineties performance Audis now reaching stratospheric values, where do we see this car?Offered at No Reserve, this is an opportunity to acquire possibly the lowest mileage RS4 in the UK, if not worldwide. The B7 RS4 is an almost complete departure from previous Audi RS models as it was initially available as a four-door saloon with the Avant Estate and the Cabriolet arriving later unlike the previous RS4 and RS2 which were available exclusively as Avants. In production between 2006-2008, the B7 was constructed from fully galvanised steel in a monocoque design with the RS4 benefiting from lightweight Aluminium front wings and bonnet. Despite the wide flared arches, large air intakes and low and purposeful stance, the RS4 is remarkably slippery with a class-leading drag-coefficient (Cd) of .31.The engine of the B7 RS4 is based on the existing all-alloy 4,163cc V8 from the B6 S4 and shares many parts, and Fuel Stratified Injection with the 4.2 FSI V8 in the Q7. It produces 414bhp at 7,800rpm and this power is fed through a Getrag 6-speed manual gearbox and out to all four wheels with the aid of Audi’s trademark ‘Quattro’ permanent four-wheel drive system with a 'default' 40:60 front-to-rear torque split. It’s fitted as standard with ‘Dynamic Ride Control’ (DRC), a purely mechanical system that hydraulically links diagonally opposite dampers with valves to control the passage of fluid according to the forces acting on the wheels. This offers the suppleness in a straight line, tautness in corners, and swift fluid progress that you would expect from a quick modern Audi but, surprisingly, generates a level of driver involvement that’s at BMW level.Dating from 2007, this remarkable RS4 has been owned and stored by its first owner and his father for most of its life and has covered a warranted 217 miles. It’s finished in Mugello Blue, a striking deep mineral blue that varies in intensity with the light and the cockpit is classic Audi RS in Black, immensely comfortable yet totally functional. The only evidence of its long period of storage is some, almost imperceptible, pitting of some of the external chrome. Our vendor has now decided to offer the Audi for sale and was keen to present it in showroom condition, replacing the front grille (the original remains with the car) and has new badging yet to be fitted. Our advice was not to fit the badging as keeping the 217-mile car absolutely original is important in terms of rarity and consequently value but the parts are with the car should the new owner decide to return the car to the road and drive around in, what would effectively be, a ‘new’ 2007 RS4.It has recently been iClick here for more details and images
A simply stunning collector-quality example in a fantastic colour combination and specification with just 656 miles from new.343bhp 3.2-litre ‘S54’ straight-six engine substantially re-engineered by the 'M-Division' mated to a 6-speed Getrag gearbox that takes power to the rear wheels via a variable-lock LSDIncredible to believe this car is now 20 years old – ‘as new’ condition with showroom delivery mileageRemaining in secure storage whilst the owner went to Spain for 19 years having then covered just 640 milesThe original bottle of champagne is in the boot from the supplying dealer along with all keys, key rings, hardtop roof, wind deflector, book-pack and the SupaGuard protectionUpon being rediscovered, the car went to BMW Vines of Gatwick for an inspection, full (1,200 mile) service, recommissioning and recalls for road useFastidiously stored and maintained ever since, this car is as healthy as it is originalA decade after the Golf GTi had turned the sports car concept on its head and shown that a hot hatch could be as dynamic as a roadster, BMW brought out the now iconic M3 E30 in 1986.This homologation special was only meant to help the company win Touring Car races, but it started a whole new genre and added excitement to the BMW range that it couldn’t do without. The E36 M3 of ’93 was accused of being more of a marketing tool, a tad unwieldy and overweight, but the E46 was designed to address that. The M3 E46 took the hearts of real sports car fans by storm when it launched in 2000. With a low weight construction and the high-rev concept of its inline 6-cylinder engine, for many it embodied a return to the virtues of the M3 E30. The following year, a convertible E46 M3 followed, combining a sporty experience and the luxury of open-top driving in an unprecedented way.Priced on a par with the Porsche Boxster S, the E46 M3 was streets ahead in performance, challenging the much pricier 911 and Audi RS4. Stiffened, wider-tracked with big wheel arches and a massive front spoiler, it packed a 343bhp 3.2-litre ‘S54’ straight-six engine substantially re-engineered by the 'M' division. A six-speed Getrag gearbox took power to the rear wheels via a variable-lock limited-slip diff, developed with GKN. All cars were officially limited to 155 mph, although Autocar’s test model happily topped 160 mph.Modern technology meant that ABS, switchable Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control and Traction Control systems were standard. It sounded brilliant, too. "The grunty rumble from the quad exhausts at idle gives way to a serrated wail as the straight-six climbs to its redline," enthused Autocar magazine.Aluminium was widely used to keep weight down, for the bonnet and brake calipers as well as suspension components, though the car still ended just a bit heavier than its predecessor thanks to a high level of standard equipment inside the opulent leather-clad interior. As a package, it was a triumph – the original M3 grown up.The car presented here must be seen to be believed. It is a 2001 BMW M3 (E46) Convertible with the more desirable manual gearbox, which has covered just 656 miles from new! Read that again. Can there surely be another like this?! It is incredible to believe this car is now 20 years old – ‘as new’ condition, including the smell, with showroom delivery mileage.Remaining in a high-quality garage whilst the owner went to Spain for 19 years (having then covered just 640 miles), it was discovered by our vendor through a mutual connection. Not believing his eyes, and before it was even started up, the car was trailered straight to BMW Vines of Gatwick for an inspection, a full (1,200 mile) service (invoice is in the history file), recommissioning and manufacturer recalls (including airbags and engine bearing cap replacement) for road use. After this, fitted with a new BMW battery, a new fuel pump and some fresh fuel, its straight-six engine was awoken.Amazingly, the original bottle of champagne from the supplying dealer was in the boot, plus the car was found to have all keys, key rings, hardtop roof, wind deflector (unopened), and book-pack.Fastidiously stored and maintained ever since its discovery by our vendor, this car is as healthy as it is original. One for the BMW collector, this amazing car is in possibly the best colour combination for an E46 of Carbon Black paintwork and black leather interior, plus a big specification including Harmann Kardon HiFi, electric memory seats, heated front seats. 19″ polished alloy wheels, Xenon headlights, cruise control, climate control and parking Sensors. The new Focus RS was inspired by Colin McRae's WRC rally exploits and featured a 2.0-litre Duratec RS engine with an advanced turbocharging system and oil-spray cooled pistons to achieve more power - which eventually peaked at 215 bhp and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds. The chassis was developed and a Quaife torque-biasing differential fitted to ensure optimal front-wheel-drive tractability. Suspension was by uprated offset coil springs with Sachs Racing dampers whilst stopping power was provided by Brembo brakes. The cabin was competition-inspired and featured leather and Alcantara Sparco seats. The exterior of the car took a number of styling cues from the WRC rally car and even used custom 18inch O.Z. Racing alloy wheels as a nod to its competition cousin. This amazing example was supplied by Evans Halshaw Ford of Preston to its first and only registered keeper on the 28th November 2003 finished in Imperial Blue with the Sparco front seats trimmed in contrasting black and blue leather with Alcantara inserts. The rear seats are similarly trimmed and the handbrake and gear knob are finished in machined aluminium. The interior is further enhanced by the addition of carbon fibre to the gear-stick surround and the door cards have blue-trimmed inserts. The car was bought new by a notable Lancashire businessman and collector who used it for a weekend and then subsequently stored it, with the V5C remaining in the original owner’s name. Presented to auction in the condition that you might expect with a car that has covered just 335 miles from new, at the time of cataloguing. The RS monogrammed book pack includes the manuals, service book and a fresh MOT will be valid until October 2022. The Evans Halshaw monogrammed key fobs are still attached to the two keys, the rear screen bears the supplying dealer sticker and the car sits on the original factory-supplied tyres. The “Fast Ford” market has always been led by low mileage, factory-original cars and none come better than this example. Impressively original, just 40,000 miles and from 26 years of dutiful ownership.Offered for sale for the first time in 26 yearsLovingly cared for and kept in tip-top original condition by a real marque enthusiastNever modified or restored, original features galoreAccompanied by its complete book-pack, including service booklet, plus lots of paperworkArguably in the best colour for a Sierra CosworthFor the collector-buyer that knows their Cosworths, this is the carThe Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was launched at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show and was the first Ford to wear the 'Cosworth' badge. Only 5,545 were built to homologate the car for Group A Touring Car racing and were based on the 3-door Sierra bodyshell but fitted with a 2.0-litre turbo engine of now legendary repute. It featured a double overhead-camshaft, 16-valve engine with a Garret T3 turbo and intercooler, giving a reliable 204bhp which enabling a top speed of 150mph and 0-60 in just 6.8 seconds. This UK-supplied, right-hand drive car was supplied new by Sandicliffe Ford, and it still wears their original number plates. Described by our vendor, who has owned the car since 1995 - so he should know, as immaculate, and in outstanding, untouched (never welded) condition with a genuine 40,300 miles, which is supported by a full-service history and some paperwork. The paintwork, all panels and the glass are said to be all original to the car, plus there are two keys, and the original stereo and parcel shelf have been kept safe to accompany it. Recently serviced with a new cambelt and sparkplugs, this is a fit and extremely well-preserved Fast Ford. The bodywork is indeed in superb order and the original colour of Diamond White is as crisp as ever. The mechanicals have all been checked over and no modifications have been made to this factory-original car contrasting with the many similar cars that ended up with modified turbos, suspension, and trim. As such, it is highly collectable today and the Sierra Cosworth has now been recognised as a real future classic, with many experts predicting sustained long-term growth in value - like the limited-edition fast Fords of previous generations. The indicated mileage is 40,300 and this is backed up by service records, and its commensurate condition. A superb opportunity to own a very special example of a real 'blue oval' icon. A very smart manual example of the E34 M5, UK-supplied, rarely seen in this condition and showing an odometer reading of 45,587 miles.Supplied by the Blue Bell Garage, Wilmslow Ltd. on the 1st May 1990 in Brilliant Red with a Champagne leather interiorThe car was specified with optional electric roof, "de-chrome" option and AC Schnitzer alloy wheelsProduced from 1988, the E34 first generation of the M5 was powered by the 3.6-litre straight-six engine mated to a 5-speed Getrag manual boxThe history file includes every previously issued MOT Certificate warranting the mileage of 45,587 (atoc)Present also is the original service book, reams of historic invoices and the tool kitThe market for the E34 M5 has matured with UK-supplied examples in this condition and mileage in high demand.Whilst the 1980s saw an abundance of smaller two-door sports saloon produced for touring car homologation it was the BMW M5 that invented the notion of a full sized luxury saloon capable of incredible speeds. E34 generation of the M5 was produced from September 1988 to 1995. It was hand-built at BMW M GmbH in Garching, Germany. Assembly was done either by a single M employee or a team of M employees and generally took about two weeks. In the second half of 1991, engine displacement was increased to 3.8 litres with the S38B38. Power was now increased to 335bhp and the E34 M5 was the last M5 to feature an engine with a historical link to a BMW Motorsport racing engine. An E34 M5 was raced in the Australian 1992 Bathurst 12-Hour Production Car endurance race, placing 2nd overall and 1st in class. It was driven by former F1 champion Alan Jones, Neville Crichton and BMW Touring car driver, Tony Longhurst. Supplied by the Blue Bell Garage Wilmslow Ltd., Cheshire on the 1st May 1990 in Brilliant Red with Champagne leather interior, and like all M5s of the period, a six-speed manual gearbox. The car was specified with optional electric sunroof and unusually, although unused, a detachable hidden towbar, “chrome delete” option and AC Schnitzer alloy wheels. An invoice on file relates to the purchase and fitting of a new set of AC Schnitzer alloy wheels for £5,210, which remain on the car today. Kept by the first owner for some ten years it is said that he took the car to Germany and had the limiter removed at a cost of 2500DM, achieving just over 180mph on the autobahn before backing off. The history file includes every previously issued MOT certificate, warranting the mileage of 45,587 miles, at the time of cataloguing. Present also is the original service book, reams of historic invoices and tool kit. Very few examples of the E34 M5 are available in the global market in this condition and mileage, and fewer still have the distinction of being UK-supplied. Presented in classic period colours for serious consideration by enthusiast and connoisseur alike. An early RS500 showing just 23,222 miles from new with a detailed history file and recent Paul Linfoot report.Tickford build sheets confirm this car as #215 out of 500 and first registered on the 3rd August 1987The detailed history file includes well stamped service book, numerous MOTs, historical invoices. There are two condition reports from 1991 and 2021Compiled by noted RS 500 expert Paul Linfoot, the 2021 condition report states the boost gauge is present and only fitted to early carsIt also notes that the mileage of 23,222 (atoc) is consistent with the interior, radio, gear knob and original exhaust systemThe car was professionally painted in 2015 and the panels are straight with no signs of rust according to the report which is available pre-auction via emailThe report is also complimentary of the shut lines as we note that the car sustained light damage to the front in its early life and is registered as an insurance loss, damaged and repairedWe welcome any inspection of this beautiful car and its impressive leather bound history file. The Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 was announced in July 1987 and had a mechanically uprated Cosworth engine (more similar to the one to be used in competition), with power boosted to 224bhp, upgraded brakes, modified bodywork and the cachet of being hand-assembled. Just 500 three-door Sierra Cosworths were sent to Aston Martin Tickford for conversion to the RS500, and copy build sheets confirm that this car was number 215.First registered on the 3rd August 1987 as “E321 EPD” the well stamped service book supplied in the incredibly detailed history file shows periodic services consistent with incremental mileage increases and corresponds to the historical MOTs. A condition report dated 31st October 1991 written by Boddington, Mee Consulting Automotive Engineers of Nottingham shows the odometer reading as 2,972 miles and notes that there is slight damage to the N/S/F corner front bumper mounting and “no sign of major accident damage”. With no other reference in the history file to any further accident damage it appears that the 1991 report accounts for why the car appears on some online car history check websites as “repaired and inspected after being previously written off”. It would also be consistent with the low values of the model in the early 1990s and why the insurance loss adjuster may have been stricter with light damage. The car is offered from a small Ford collection and upon inspection we noted that the ECU mounted behind the “RS” panel on the dashboard appears to be the original with the Morrelli stickers covering the screw holes free of tampering. The interior is wholly consistent of a car of this mileage and the rear parcel shelf is “bowed”, a common RS500 characteristic, further confirms the interior’s originality and the first aid kit can be found in the usual spot. The car was professionally repainted in 2015 and presents well today retaining a deep gloss shine. The engine bay was attended to at the same time by respected RS specialist Paul Linfoot who replaced the wing sealer to the replacement wing(s) and fitted new brackets, bolts and screws where appropriate.Paul Linfoot compiled a report on the 17th October 2021, copies of which can be emailed to interested parties pre-auction, and we have, with Paul’s permission, reproduced some excerpts here, which of course can be read in context within the full written report:“The car carries all its correct RS500 unique parts that were fitted during its conversion. The original RS500 bumpers/spoilers and splitters are all in very good condition and fit correctly.”“The interior is in very good condition and consistent with the car's low miles of 23,222, with its original Ford stereo and amplifier fitted and working. The seats and door cards are all correct and in good condition. The original leather gear knob is also present and in good condition, these are often replaced as they didn't wear very well.”“The exterior of the car presents very well, its shut lines are all how they should be and the panels are straight and rust free…The correct pin stripe and (RS500) badge is proudly on display on the front wings and rear tailgate.”“The underside looks original and untouched but solid and again the correct RS500 rear beam sits in place along with an original exhaust system that are usually replaced in favour of a modern stainless steel system.”In relation to the car’s insurance registry status Paul said “It is my opinion that on older cars this is less important and any vehicle should be valued on its present overall condition rather than what may have happened while the car’s value was at its lowest.”We conclude that this car, whilst estimated to reflect it’s damaged-repaired status, should be judged on its current condition, superb history and low mileage.
