Three vesta cases, in giltmetal and green enamel in the form of an engine, inscribed THE MOTOR EVERY TUESDAY ONE PENNY, a nickel plated/embossed vesta case inscribed September 25 1894 Merchant Taylor & Clothier/Souvenir Moe Levy the Blue Front 119 & 121 Walker St NY and an embossed brass vesta case with the SS Oceanic and THE A.E.M. SHOE FOOTWEAR THAT SETS THE PACE/WITH COMPLIMENTS, late 19th/early 20th c All in good condition (Please see lot 471 for image)

An early vesta case, of straight sided oval section and engine turned, by Abraham Brownett, London 1863; two American embossed silver vesta cases; a silver book shaped vesta case with sprung cigar cutter in the spine, marks rubbed, Birmingham c1900; a French silver slim pillar shaped vest case engraved Jonathan Ware; a silver and blue guilloche enamel fenestrated vesta case, Birmingham 1916 (6) The blue enamel badly chipped; the book shaped example containing the cigar cutter heavily worn; the early vesta case with some light wear and signs of age but in overall good condition, the others also fine
Embossed and Electrotype. Nine vesta cases, including sea shells, mistletoe, Japanese garden, finger hole opening, overlaid glass, circular mounted with a tinted celluloid photograph of a huntswoman, an example in the shape of a barrel and a finely engine turned double ended basket work vesta case, all late 19th/early 20th c Some examples slightly worn but in good to excellent overall condition
Art Nouveau. An embossed silver and turquoise enamel vest case , maker G H, Birmingham 1905; a silver heart shaped vesta case, foliate engraved, Birmingham 1906; a silver combination vesta/stamp case, engine turned, Birmingham 1905 (3) The combination vesta stamp case slightly worn and the catch a little defective, the two other examples in fine condition
Three French silver snuff boxes, the lid engraved with a landscape or strapwork, the undersides engine turned, various sizes, maker's and control marks or unmarked, all 19th c; two English silver snuff boxes, both Birmingham, 1805 and 1899 (5) Slight wear, the 1805 snuff box heavily worn and with damage to the edge of the lid
A Victorian silver castle top vinaigrette by Nathaniel Mills, the lid die stamped with Windsor Castle, the underside engine turned, the sides reeded, in foliate chased borders and with engraved grille, 4.2cm w, maker's mark, Birmingham 1838 In excellent condition, no damage or repairs, the lid crisp and without wear, privately consigned from Croxton Abbey Staffordshire and in family ownership since the 19th century (Please see lot 593 for image)
Shand Family. The manuscript diary of James Shand Proprietor of Shand Mason & Co Fire Engine Manufacturers of Blackfriars Road London, containing daily entries from 1 January 1856 to, becoming less frequent, 10 December 1857 in a neat hand in brown ink, c18 c 11.5cm; a second short manuscript journal of "The Travels of Two Sisters from The King or Queendom of Great Britain through France & Co by Ellen Tilley 28 August - 16 September 1845 giving interest descriptions of steam engines and a visit to the Sèvres Porcelain Factory "at Sèvres we saw some very beautiful specimens of porcelain the painting was very chaste and highly finished; some specimens in flowers & fruit were particularly good...;" with miscellaneous papers including James Shand's Freedom of the City of London, Appointment as a Special Constable and two passports, a London undertaker's bill 1809, wills, conveyances, leases, surrenders, marriage settlements and manorial court documents concerning the Tilley, Gallop, Slaughterford and other families of Wisborough Green, East Westham, Poynings and elsewhere in Sussex and Surrey in carved oak bible box, 18th c in part (130 approx)
