Ltd., 18 & 20 Grafton St, Dublin (light spotting and time staining, thunderbugs beneath glass, colour good) * The Dublin and Kingstown Railway (D&KR) was the first passenger railway to open in Ireland and also claimed a series of other firsts, including the first use of a passenger tank engine, the first commuter service and the first railway to build its own locomotives. Brought into being under the 'Dublin and Kingstown Railway Act, 1831', it faced numerous obstacles and opposition during planning and construction, including the destruction by storm of an important bridge. It opened in 1834, with two engines in operation, the Vauxhall and Hibernia and the first timetabled services commenced in 1835. In 1856, the Dublin & Wicklow Railway took over operation of the trains, leasing the line from the D&KR.
A small group of silver items - comprising a three piece George V dressing table set by Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1935; an engine turned compact, Birmingham 1960; a George VI lidded mustard pot, Sheffield 1950; two engine turned napkin rings; a cased christening fork and spoon set; and a butter knife and salt spoon; together with a pair of silver plated copper and spelter candlesticks (worn, one lacks drip pan); and a Walker & Hall silver plated half-pint tankard, weight of silver pieces including compact (but excluding dressing set) 278g.
Worksplate THE HUNSLET ENGINE CO LTD LEEDS 175HP No LE 9425 1989. Ex 20 tonne 900mm gauge battery rack adhesion 0-4-0 locomotive running number RA38. Delivered to the Channel Tunnel group and used during the construction of the tunnel. Oval cast brass in lightly cleaned condition measuring 11.5in x 8in. A plate from one of the locomotives that worked on the most significant engineering feat of the 20th Century.
Worksplate F.C.HIBBERD & CO LTD PLANET LOCO 3812 LONDON NW10 ex Standard gauge AD Type Diesel mechanical loco Built in 1956 as Job No 2177 with a 105 BHP Foden FD 6 engine. Delivered new to the Admiralty in Leeds and then to Llangennech Royal Naval Armaments Depot and numbered YARD No.124 and named Peeping Tom. Then to Bry Palling Scrap merchants, Llantrisant in June 1972 and scrapped in May 1974. Oval chromed brass in as removed condition, measures 11.875in x 7.5in.
Tyers No 6 Aluminium single line tablet OTTERSPOOL Jc - SEVERN BRIDGE. Ex Great Western & Midland Railway Joint, Severn & Wye Railway section between Lydney adjacent to the junction to the Engine Shed and Severn Bridge station, gateway to the famous Severn bridge that was demolished by a barge collision in 1960, that linked to Sharpness on the south bank. The station opened on 20th October 1879 and closed 26th October 1960, the day after the collision.
Worksplate THE ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO LTD VULCAN WORKS NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS ENGLAND No D.1199 1967 ex 0-6-0 diesel hydraulic used at Celnen South Colliery Abercarn and later rebuilt by Yorkshire Engine in 1996 for Thames Steel Ltd Sheerness Steelworks, Isle of Sheppey, and named Bill and numbered No.L127, withdrawn around 2012. Rectangular chromed brass face cleaned and restored, measures 10.25in x 4.625in.
Motoring road sign re ROADS ACT 1920 LOCOMOTIVES HEAVY MOTOR VEHICELS etc ARE PROHIBITED. Rectangular cast iron in as removed condition measures 23.75in x 23in. Makers name Dorset Foundry Ltd Poole cast in the back and also originates from a bridge in the Poole area. One for the Road Roller and Traction engine collector.
Nameplate HUNDAY as together with it matching worksplate THE HUNSLET ENGINE Co LTD LEEDS No 2250 1940. From a 0-4-0 diesel supplied to the MOD and delivered to the Admiralty Royal Naval Armament Dept Dean Hill Wiltshire and numbered Yard 85. Sold to Pollock Brown Co Ltd Northam Hampshire in 1965 and then moved to Royle Agricultural Hadnall Shropshire in 1971 then in 1980 moved to the Hunday Tractor Museum Northumberland where it was named, then to the short lived Yafford Mill Railway Newport Isle Of Wight and lastly at the Sunshine Peat Company in Northern Ireland where it was recorded as being out of use in 2006, In 2020 the equipment of the Sunshine Peat Company was sold and the engine presumed scrapped. Nameplate rectangular cast bronze measures 23.5in x 6in, worksplate oval cast brass measures 8in x 5in. Both in as removed condition.
Great Western Railway brass cabside numberplate GWR 3028 ex Robinson Rod 2-8-0 built by Nasmyth Wilson as works number 1281 in 1918 and delivered to the Railway Operating Division. Purchased by the GWR in 1925 and allocated to Croes Newydd and 84B Oxley from where it was withdrawn in August 1956 and scrapped. Face restored with boiler and engine details stamped into the rim.
Smokebox numberplate 51424 ex LYR Barton Wright 0-6-0ST. Originally built as 0-6-0 tender engine in 1885 by the Vulcan Foundry, rebuilt as a 0-6-0ST in 1895 and numbered LYR 584 and LMS 11424. Allocated to Newton Heath and 25D Mirfield from where it was withdrawn in October 1958 and scrapped. In lightly cleaned condition.

The inscription reads 'To Lord & Lady Lonsdale on the occasion of their Golden Wedding 27th June 1928 from George & Philip Noble'.Fully marked inside cover and further part marked inside base. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use.
