Lifeboat interest - Royal National Lifeboat Institution Medal, George V, silver (Thomas Oakley Davies, Voted 17th December 1920) with uniface ‘double-dolphin’ suspension, mounted as worn, in case of issue. Davies was Second Coxswain, Fishguard Lifeboat. On 3/12/1930 the Dutch motor schooner Hermina was dragging her anchors, the motor lifeboat Charterhouse was launched, after rescuing seven men the lifeboat sprung a leak and it was found impossible to restart the engine. Her sail was hoisted but she lost her mizzen sail which left her with only the mainsail. 2nd Coxswain Davies and crew member Holmes succeeded in setting the jib sail and although waterlogged the lifeboat reached its station. December 1st 1960`, 11.5cm (4 1/2in) long, 168g Baron Georges de Serdici (1920-1994) was born in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He was the son of Vasile de Serdici, a former Romanian landowner and one of the leaders of the Romanian National Peasant Party (Partidul National Taranesc), one of the most important parties during the inter-war period. In 1947 he was co-defence attorney in the trial organized by the Soviet NKVD and the Romanian communist secret services (Securitate) against the leadership of the Romanian National Peasant Party, including Iuliu Maniu and Vasile de Serdici. During March 1948 he escaped illegally from Romania, living in Sweden, Great Britain and Germany, running his own businesses in real estate, oil, and shipping, and engaging relentlessly in anti-communist activities. From 1982 to 1990 he was Secretary General of the Romanian National Peasant Party.
