A GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "2801". As carried by the 2800 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon as Works No. 2096 in September 1905 under Lot 153 at a cost of £2,442 plus £474 for the 3000 gallons tender. She was the first production engine of the 2800 class. Initially allocated to Westbourne Park, Paddington, she spent periods at Severn Tunnel Junction; Pontypool Road; Aberdare; Salisbury; Cardiff Canton; Newport Ebbw, and Old Oak Common. She was superheated in October 1910 and had outside steam-pipes fitted by June 1954. She was finally withdrawn on 16th December 1958 after running 1,426,483 miles in service, and cut up at Swindon by 16th May 1959. In fine, ex-loco condition with traces of the rim-stampings still visible.

NAMEPLATE "ROYAL SOVEREIGN". As carried by the LNER 'Sandringham' Class B17/4 4-6-0, LNER 2871, built by Robert Stephenson as Works No. 4133, emerging to traffic on 11th June 1937. Originally named "MANCHESTER CITY", it was rebuilt to Class B2 at Darlington, emerging to traffic on 26th August 1945, still as 2871. It became LNER 1671 on 11th February 1946 and was renamed "ROYAL SOVEREIGN" in April 1946, becoming BR 61671 on 23rd September 1948. A Cambridge based engine, quite often employed hauling the Royal Train, it was withdrawn on 22nd September 1958 from Cambridge and cut up at Stratford. Its nameplates were transferred to 61632 in October 1958 which had previously been named "BELVOIR CASTLE". 61632 was built at Darlington in May 1931 as LNER 2832, Class B17/2. It was rebuilt to Class B2, emerging to traffic on 12th July 1946; was renumbered 1632, then 61632 on 22nd June 1948. It was withdrawn on 2nd February 1959 from Cambridge and cut up at Stratford. The nameplate is in completely ex-loco condition, never touched by the vendor who bought it from Stratford on 30th April 1959 as evidenced by the original BR delivery note that accompanies the plate. A curved cast brass nameplate, 59", in totally ex-loco condition. A special opportunity.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "44589". As carried by the ex LMS Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0, LMS 4589, built at Derby in 1939 under Lot 147. It became BR 44589. Based on a Midland Railway design, these useful locos (often known as "Duck Sixes") spent much of their working lives hauling long rakes of wagons. 44589 was latterly a Derby, Liverpool Brunswick, and Warrington engine, and was withdrawn from the latter in November 1964 to be cut up by T.W. Ward of Killamarsh. The plate was repainted a long time ago, but the faces of the numerals were not.

A WORKS NUMBERPLATE "London & North Eastern Railway 2242 Darlington Works 1918". As carried by the ex NER Class T2 0-8-0, NER 2242, built at Darlington and emerging to traffic in December 1918. Designed by Raven, these 0-8-0's were employed almost exclusively on freight duties in the north-east of England. 2242 became LNER 3399 Class Q6 from 20th October 1946; BR 63399 from 17th December 1948. Latterly a Blaydon, Thornaby and Tyne Dock engine, she was withdrawn from the latter on 16th March 1964 and cut up at Darlington in May. Oval cast-iron, 9"x5", face-repainted only, the height of the numerals somewhat curtailed.

A WORKS NUMBERPLATE "London & North Eastern Railway 2612 Built Doncaster Works 1927". As carried by the N7 Class 0-6-2T, LNER 2612, built at Doncaster as Works No.1681 with condensing apparatus. These well proportioned tanks were used mainly on local passenger trains on the Great Eastern section. 2612 had its condensers removed in April 1937, becoming LNER 9714 Class N7 from 27th October 1946; BR 69714 from 1st October 1949. A longtime Stratford engine, it was withdrawn from there on 10th September 1961 and cut up in the Works in October. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", face-polished only. This is an unusual Stratford style casting.

A WORKSPLATE "The Hunslet Engine Co. Ltd. No.1651-1930 Leeds". As carried by the Southern Railway of Peru (the Peruvian Corporation Ltd) standard gauge 0-6-0ST with outside cylinders that emerged from Works on 7th February 1930. It was No.44, and was an oil-fired, yard shunting engine. Oval cast brass, 111/2"x8", face-polished only.

NAMEPLATE "BUCKENHILL GRANGE". This nameplate was carried by the GWR '6800 Grange' Class 4-6-0 6830 built at Swindon in August 1937 under Lot 308 incorporating the wheels and motion of a withdrawn 4300 Class Mogul. She cost £3,929 plus £1,036 for the reconditioned tender built in 1922. Initially allocated to Westbury, she was a longtime Bristol St Philips Marsh engine, spending her last 18 months at Oxley from where she was withdrawn to be cut up by George Cohen, Sons & Co. Kingsbury, Tamworth, Staffs. The Grange is near Bromyard. The nameplate is 68", lightly polished only with original green paint on the splasher-plate. The back repainted but the strap marks clear.

A GWR brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "6724". As carried by the 5700 Class 0-6-0PT built by W.G. Bagnall Ltd as Works No. 2405 and delivered to Swindon in October 1930 at a contract price of £2,853. LAST LOCO OF THE BAGNALL BATCH. Initially a Swindon based engine, she moved to Barry in 1938; and Newport Pill in 1957 before a final stay at Swansea from 1962 until her withdrawal in November 1963 after running 573,939 miles in service. The plate is face-restored only, and accompanied by the original BR sales correspondence.

AN INDUSTRIAL NAMEPLATE "WATH MAIN COLLIERY No.5". As carried by an 0-6-0ST with inside cylinders built by Hunslet as Works No. 633 in 1895. It was named "WATH MAIN COLLIERY No.1", and worked at the Wath Main Colliery Company Ltd's Wath Main Colliery. It was scrapped in 1934 and the nameplates were transferred (with the "1" altered to a "5" - as can be seen on the nameplate) to an 0-6-0ST with outside cylinders built by Yorkshire Engine as Works No. 2305 in 1931. It became NCB property on 1st January 1947, was renumbered "14" and scrapped in 1966. An impressive rectangular 'T' shape cast brass nameplate, overall 571/2"x111/4". In ex-loco condition apart from a very light polish.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "45740". As carried by the LMS 'Jubilee' Class 5XP (later 6P) 4-6-0, LMS 5740 "MUNSTER". It was built at Crewe as Works No. 338 in December 1936 under Lot 129. Becoming BR 45740 in June 1948, it was a longtime Willesden engine until a move to Crewe North in July 1960 and finally Aston in December 1962 from where it was withdrawn in October 1963 to be cut up at Crewe in December. The plate is partially repainted, and accompanied by a 1981 purchase receipt from Carnforth 'Collectors Corner'.

NAMEPLATE "THE OAKLEY". This fine, original cast brass nameplate (stamped "L 366") was carried by the LNER 'Hunt' Class D49/2 4-4-0, LNER 366, built at Darlington and emerging to traffic on 7th December 1934. It became LNER 2769 on 24th October 1946; BR 62769 on 13th May 1948. A longtime Scarborough engine, it was withdrawn from there on 12th September 1958 and cut up in Darlington Works immediately. The Hunt operated in the Bedford/St. Neots area. This left hand nameplate, face-restored only, carries a very early 'smooth' fox, probably its original. The plate is 331/2" across, face-polished and repainted only.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "45531". As carried by the ex LNWR 'Claughton' 4-6-0 built at Crewe in June 1921, LNWR 517. It was renumbered 6027 in September 1926, then rebuilt as Works No. 103 in 1933 under Lot 95 as a 'Patriot' class locomotive becoming LMS 5531 in 1934. It was named "SIR FREDERICK HARRISON" in 1937, and received a No.2A boiler and double chimney in 1947 becoming Class 7P. In 1948 it became BR 45531, was a longtime Edge Hill engine until a move to Carlisle Upperby in September 1963, and was withdrawn on 30th October 1965 to be cut up by G.H. Campbell of Airdrie by March 1966. The plate is face-repainted only and repaired by BR with two metal back supports.

A WORKS NUMBERPLATE "London & North Eastern Railway 65819 N.B. Loco Co 1908". As carried by the ex NER P3 Class 0-6-0, NER 1029, built by the North British Locomotive's Atlas Works as Works No. 18364 in May 1908. Designed by Worsdell, these locos were built for freight duties. 1029 became LNER 1029 Class J27; 5819 from January 1946; BR 65819 from November 1950. A longtime North Blyth engine, it was withdrawn in October 1966 and cut up by Hughes Bolckows Ltd, North Blyth by February 1967. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", face cleaned and polished.

A WORKSPLATE "Sharp, Stewart & Co Limited Atlas Works 4616-1900 Glasgow". As carried by the Barry Railway B1 Class 0-6-2T, Barry 114, that emerged from Works in June 1900 at a cost of £2,760. A Barry based engine all her life, she was used initially on coal trains on weekdays and excursions on Sundays while in Barry Railway ownership. She became GWR 270 on 1st January 1922, and a S/9 boiler was fitted in November 1936. After 1932 she was used mainly on shunting in the Barry and Radyr areas. She was withdrawn on 6th April 1951 after running 791,029 miles. She was cut up at Swindon by 14th July 1951. Oval cast brass, 93/4"x6", face-repainted but not polished. The fine ex-loco back is stamped with the GWR number 270, as it should be. There is an extra hole at the bottom, almost certainly done in service.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "62015". As carried by the (LNER) K1 Class 2-6-0 built by the North British Locomotive's Queens Park Works as Works No.26619, and emerging to traffic on 7th July 1949. Latterly a March; Stratford; Retford; Doncaster and Frodingham engine, it was withdrawn from the latter on 25th July 1965 and cut up by Drapers of Hull in November 1965. The plate is face-repainted only and repaired by BR with a metal plate on the back.

A WORKSPLATE "Built 1952 Darlington". As carried by the BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78001 that emerged from Works in December 1952. A longtime Worcester engine, it moved to Gloucester Barnwood in December 1963 and finally Gloucester Horton Road from where it was withdrawn in December 1965. In March 1966 it went to Birds Commercial Motors, Morriston for scrap. Oval cast-iron, 101/2"x6", face-repainted only, with a crack across the left fixing-hole.

A 'tram' engine on a system opened in 1926 using 30 lb. rail. It became All India No.603. Oval cast brass, 8"x51/2", face-restored only.

A longtime Swindon engine, it was withdrawn in November 1964 from Bristol Barrow Road and cut up by J. Buttigieg of Newport in February 1965. Oval cast-iron, 101/2"x6", in ex-loco condition.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "52271". As carried by the ex LYR Class 11 0-6-0, LYR 270, built at Horwich in December 1894. It became LMS 12271 Class 3F; BR 52271 in October 1949. Latterly a Newton Heath engine, it moved to Oldham Lees in May 1961 and was withdrawn from there in August to be cut up by the Central Wagon Co. Ince, Wigan in November. The plate is in ex-loco condition.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "73045". As carried by the BR Standard Class 5 4-6-0 built at Derby in November 1953 under Lot 6230. Latterly a Holbeck; Leicester G.C; Neasden; and Patricroft engine, it was withdrawn from there in August 1967 and cut up by Cashmores of Newport in February 1968. The plate is repaired and re-painted.

A WORKSPLATE "Avonside Engine Co. Ltd. Engine No. 1763 Built 1917 Bristol". As carried by "MILDRED", an Avonside Type B4 0-6-0ST with outside cylinders that was No.33 for the Inland Waterways and Docks at Purfleet. By June 1920 it had gone to Roads Reconstruction Ltd, Vobster Quarry, Somerset and was scrapped in February 1959. Oval cast brass, 101/4"x61/2", lightly face-polished but with original paint, and a fine ex-loco back.

As carried by the (LNER) B1 Class 4-6-0 61309 built by the North British Locomotive's Queens Park Works as Works No.26210 and emerging to traffic on 15th April 1948. A longtime Copley Hill engine, it moved to Low Moor in September 1963, and was withdrawn from Wakefield on 23rd January 1967 to be cut up by T.W. Ward of Killamarsh. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", face-repainted but not polished.

A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "4217". As carried by the ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T built at Swindon as Works No.2461 in December 1912 under Lot 187 at a cost of £2,593. A South Wales engine all her life, she was based at Neath from new; Landore to 1914; Llanelly to 1917; Neath again to 1919; Swansea East Dock to 1921; Llanelly again to 1925; Barry to 1932; Cardiff Canton to 1940; Tondu to 1942; Aberbeeg to 1952; Tondu again to 1955; and Severn Tunnel Junction finally until withdrawal in July 1959 after running 764,353 miles in service. She was sold for scrap on 5th February 1960 to the Round Oak Steel Works, Brierley Hill, Staffs. The plate is face-repainted only.
