A Victorian silver mounted dressing set in brass bound casethe case of rounded rectangular form, fitted interior with mirror, part shaving set, two scent bottles, three rectangular glass boxes with silver tops, one round glass jar, shaving brush frame, glass inkwell with silver cover, all decorated engine turned decoration, engraved cartouche, GR, London 1842, the mirror with trade label for Halstaff and Hannaford 228 Regent St LondonCase width: 28cmHalstaff and Hannaford initially started with William Halstaff in 1825 at 68 Margaret Street, Cavendish Square, London, later moving it in the first years of Queen Victoria's reign in 1838 to 228 Regent Street, London, as Halstaff & Co. The partnership relevant to this dressing case didn't come about until 1842, when William Halstaff went into partnership with Thomas Hannaford and the business became Halstaff & Hannaford. The reason for the different date of the silver and the trade label may be explained by being old stock and then given the new label. They mutually dissolved their partnership in 1858, however, the business continued trading under their name until 1898. In the same year, the name reverted back to Halstaff & Co, and it remained at 228 Regent Street address until its final closure in 1908 and could be considered a good long run.
