A Victorian electro-plated epergne by Padley, Parkin & Staniforth, the Greek key part frosted glass by Molineaux, Webb & Co., with a glass trumpet vase to the beaded and engine turned stem, a glass central bowl, the baluster stem embossed with shells and foliate decoration, on three shell and leaf feet, 45cm (17 3/4in) high; with two matching glass pedestal dishes, 9cm (3 1/2in) high. The Greek key design registered 27th August 1864 by Molineaux, Webb & Co., Manchester Flint Glass Works.

Lecturer, author, inventor of superb dividing engine. His scales retailed by booksellers in Colchester and Bury in 1773. CONDITION REPORT: suspension clip and sliding weight missing

Crawforth, figure 22, page 57), 14.2cm Jessie Ramsden, leading scientific instrument maker of Haymarket, London and 199 Piccadilly, London (working 1762-died 1800). Optician, mathematical instrument maker, mathematics master & author. FRS 1786, for which Society he made a high-precision balance for the determination of specific gravities of water/ alcohol mixtures. He made a superb dividing engine for use in his workshop. John Sheldon, an engine turned silver combination letter/ sovereign scale, propelling pencil, dip pen and knife, hallmarked Birmingham 1858, the decorative scroll seal top inset with yellow coloured glass, unscrewing to reveal individual apertures for pencil lead, stamped to the body 'J. Sheldon', capacity 4oz, 10.5cm
