An early 20th Century silver cased open faced Pocket Watch, 422077, the frosted movement with bi-metallic cut compensated balance, to a signed Roman enamelled dial, (hairline), with outside minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds and gilt spade hands, in a hinged case with plain cuvette, engine turned back cover, with gartered cartouche and milled band, width 2”, together with a late 19th Century silver double graduated curb linked watch chain with two swivels of central T Bar set with Fob and Coin, length 15 ½”, (2)
LNER A4 brass three-tone chime Whistle carried by A4 Pacific 4-6-2 Locomotive LORD FARINGDON. Built at Doncaster Works No. 1877 in July 1938 and originally named PEREGRINE. Renamed LORD FARINGDON in March 1948. Renumbered LNER 34 in November 1946 and became BR 60034 in March 1948. A Kings Cross engine until October 1963 when it was transferred to St Margarets Edinburgh for a brief spell, ending up at Ferryhill, Aberdeen from where withdrawal took place in August 1966. Cut up by Hughes, Bolckow at Blyth. Measures 13” x 5” and is mounted on a wooden plinth. A wonderful item in lovely condition.
BR(S) Bulleid locomotive cab enamel sign 5½"x9" black lettering on white, as fitted to the inside of the loco cabs. Reads:- BRITISH RAILWAYS SOUTHERN REGION special notice - this engine is fitted with an overheating detector a strong smell like garlic means a hot inside big end. Action 1/ Keep regulator cracked. 2/ Use brake to stop train. 3/ Examine inside big end. 4/ If advisable to proceed do not exceed 15mph. The sign is in very good condition. Certainly a long time since we have seen one of these for sale.
LNER Whistle, ex LNER A3 4-6-2 Pacific Locomotive numbered 60051, BLINK BONNY. Built at Doncaster, Works No. 1606 entered traffic in November 1924 No. 2550 A10 class. Later rebuilt at Doncaster into an A3 and re-entered traffic in November 1945. Renumbered LNER 51 in August 1946 and BR 60051 in September 1948. A long-time Gateshead and Heaton engine withdrawn in November 1964 from Gateshead and cut up by Hughes, Bolckow, North Blyth. Measures 19” x 8½” x 6½” and polished some time ago.
GWR Hand Written Note Books, qty 2, written in 1942 by Chief Inspector Gillett, a notable and well known railway gentleman who worked in the Birmingham District detailing Engine Numbers and Drivers from Tyseley on specific workings with timings. Local trains only but extremely interesting. Locos include, many times in fact, 5152, 4108, 5166, 5177, 5199, 8109, 5193, 4939, 5102 etc. Most runs are Moor Street through to Stratford with all stations listed with timings. A couple of gems.
A continental tea caddy only marked with zig zag assay scrape, of typical canister form with pull off cover, the body embossed with acanthus details and fruiting vine, flower head and exotic bird design, the central beaded cartouches with engraved crest and to opposing the initial F within a garter; a table cigarette box by Walker & Hall, date letter indistinct, of rectangular outline with flared base and slightly dome lid, with presentation inscription to lid; together with two match box covers; a vesta case; and an engine decorated cigarette box -6 tea caddy 12.5cm high Note: the crest to the tea caddy is an arm holding a sword with the motto 'DEO RECIQUE LIBER' in banner below
