The Concorde Air Intake Control Panel. In supersonic flight at around 1,350 mph (22½ miles per minute) Concorde’s Rolls-Royce Olympus 593 engines could only accept incoming air at around 500 mph. Consequently the air had to be slowed down in the eleven foot long ‘Air Intake’ in front of each engine face. This was done by a carefully controlled pair of ‘Intake Ramps’ which were positioned precisely to generate a series of shock waves in the intake. The ‘Air Intake Control Panel’ is the unique item that allowed the Flight Crew to manage this complex process. Located on the Flight Engineer’s Panel, it is one of the key items that enabled Concorde to successfully fly at Mach 2 for over three hours-a feat that no other aircraft before or since has achieved. This Concorde Air Intake Control Panel will come with detailed descriptions and an explanation of how it works from Mike Bannister himself. Mike will also autograph the piece itself if the buyer would like this. Good condition
