Comprising 2 wood and card single engine monoplanes which attach to a pivoted central pole which can then rotate the aircraft in a circular motion. A large scale model of a ‘Good Year Zeppelin’. An impressive composition over a frame model of an airship possibly the ‘Akron’ or ‘Macon’. Painted in silver with red, white and blue markings to the tail fin. Simplistically detailed with just markings for the engine pods and a protrusion for the control gondola. ‘Good Year-Zeppelin’ to canopy sides. Held aloft for display by an impressive ‘Erector’ lattice scaffold tower with a heavy rectangular metal base. Airship QGC some wear/light damage. Base some chipping.

Wooden Display Model of RNAS Rigid Airship R23. The solid wood model (84cm long x 10cm diameter x 15cm high) shows the polygonal cross-section of the early rigid airships, with the triangular keel below, running almost the full length of the ship, connecting the control car with the engine cars. The model is painted light blue to the topside and darker blue to the underside. The number “23” is clearly visible just forward of the empennage, with British ‘Roundels’ painted midships to both port and starboard, and on the bow. The model is un-mounted and has suffered minor knocks to the paint, with one car being knocked off (still with the model) and other delicate pieces missing (engines and propellers) but otherwise this is a lovely little model. QGC some restoration required. See Plate 5

Wooden Display Model of LZ10 “Schwaben”. The solid wood model (80cm long x 10cm diameter x 24 cm high) shows the polygonal cross-section of the early rigid airships, with the keel below, running fore and aft from the central passenger cabin to the two engine cars. The drive shafts run to port and starboard from each engine car up to the propellers (all propellers have missing blades). The model is painted light blue to the topside and darker blue to the underside, and has painted passengers in the windows of the passenger car, with crew figures in the forward and aft engine cars. The name “Schwaben” is painted on either side of her bow. The model is mounted on a plain wooden stand. a couple of minor knocks to the paint, and propellers are damaged, but otherwise this is a lovely little model. GC. See Plate 5

In one shot two women and a child are standing behind the rope and looking at the remains; another shot taken from a higher vantage point shows all the wreckage retrieved at that point laid out in relation to one of the engine gondolas.GC

A large cut-away illustration of the second Graf Zeppelin, prepared during her construction, for the English speaking markets. The main illustration, from slightly high off the port bow, shows the “Graf Zeppelin” making landfall. The cut-away sections are labelled in English, and expose the accommodation and engineering spaces, as well as showing the framework and gas cells. Three colour photographs on the right hand side of the illustration show the interior of the hull prior to installation of the gas cells, the control car and an engine car under construction. The explanatory text refers to the original design plans to use helium and heating the lifting gas prior to flight, it also make reference to Harold Ickes’ opposition to US Helium exports to Germany. At bottom left of the illustration is the name and date “Rolf Klep ‘38". The illustration was a fold-out has 3 equally spaced folds, but is otherwise in excellent condition.VGC

Originally published by Vincent Brooks-Day and Son ltd for Vanity Fair in November 1901, the illustration shows Santos-Dumont in a wicker basket with the engine and propeller behind him, suspended below No 6. Above the illustration it reads “Vanity Fair Nov 14th 1901” Framed in a black painted wooden frame (27cm x 40cm) which has been knocked and marked. Picture is slightly browned, but VGC.

The style gives the impression that the print dates from late 19th or early 20th century. The print is marked up, with a key below the print in gothic script. At the bottom is the title, also in gothic script. The paper is marked, giving the impression of age. The veneer from the lower part of the frame has peeled away.GC

The airship is shown flying from right to left; from the dark clouds of war to clearing skies. Below the airship is a barren landscape, broken by a single British heavy tank, followed by several figures on foot, heading towards the barbed wire entanglements on the horizon. Above the tank, below the airship is a single British Biplane. Framed in a heavy, dark wood frame, the artist has shown HMA No 9 after her rear two engines, with the vectored propellers had been replaced by a single German engine, savaged from the L33. Newton; some losses to surfaces, 24 x 18in (61 x 46cm). * George Machin was a well-known Fleet Street cartoonist and often worked for the Daily Mirror as well as being commissioned to work for Tatler and Sporting Life. Affectionately known as `Captain Mac` he was also a camouflage expert and war hero, who was regarded as an eccentric character in and around Dallington, East Sussex where he lived for 45 years. During WW I he found fame for his work on `Blighty` the Soldiers newspaper, and served as a balloon observer behind enemy lines. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
