A 14ct gold snuff box French import marks rectangular the lid engine-turned with plaid within a floral-entwined strapwork border engine-turned sides and base foliate scroll thumbpiece width 7.3cm 2.875in; and two enamelled silver cigarette cases Italian 20th century the first of rounded rectangular form enamelled in translucent royal blue width 8.5cm 3 3/8 in; the second rectangular with cut corners the lid with translucent green enamel over wavy engine-turning within an opaque black border width 7.7cm 3in (3)
A 18ct gold vinaigrette John Northam London 1823 rectangular with waisted sides the surface engine-turned with wavy basket weave chased foliate scroll thumbpiece pierced acanthus scroll grille width 3cm 1.25in. The prolific gold box-maker John Northam entered his first mark on 10 October 1793 listing his address as 12 St Martin's Street Leicester Fields and a second mark in 1796 after his move to 12 Frith Street Soho. There is a variant mark which was not entered but which appears on his work following his move to Greek Street. It has been suggested that as he was such an established figure and a frequent visiter to the Hall officials either failed to notice this omission or were not bothered by it. (See note Sotheby's Monaco 25 June 1976 lot 542; see also A. Kenneth Snowman Eighteenth Century Gold Boxes of Europe 1990 p. 293.) Northam supplied the leading retailers of the period including Samuel Jones; Green Ward and Green; and Rundell Bridge and Rundell. (See Charles Truman "Rundell's and Their Gold Box Suppliers" in Royal Goldsmiths: The Art of Rundell & Bridge 1797-1843 2005 pp. 40-45.) His best known objects are the gold box presented to Sir Robert Peel with the Freedom of the City by the Corporation of London in 1829 now in the British Museum; and the group of eight Field Marshall's batons made for the coronation of George IV in 1821 and sold by Rundell's one of which sold Sotheby's Property from the Royal House of Hanover 10 October 2005 lot 2211.

A Scratch built live steam half scale model of Gardner & Sons gas fired engine, the heavy cast iron body and flywheel, painted blue exhaust box and water tank painted black, the single cylinder doing a Crankshaft operating the valves through a geared and eccentric drive fitted with a sight feed oil lubricator, gas control taps and mounted on a steel plate base, the base 365mm wide.
A scratch built coal-fired live steam 11/2 inch Scale Allchin traction engine named Royal Chester from a design in the model engineer by W.J. Hughes, the steel boiler lagged in unpainted brass sheet having fully working valve gears and rotating governor, the drive through high and low gears, fitted with forward and reverse lever, full steering gear, water lifter, pressure gauge and valve controls the rear wheel with full winching drum complete with wire and tender rollers complete with bucket but lacking hose and drive belt to governor, overall length 660mm, unpainted

An early Victorian figured mahogany eight day drumhead mantel timepiece circa 1840 the four pillar circular movement with anchor escapement and signed ‘Barraud & Lund Cornhill London 2085’ to backplate the 5in circular gilt Roman numeral dial similarily signed and with foliate engraved centre within an engine turned bezel the case with drum above side scrolls and recessed panel fronted rectangular plinth on moulded skirt base pendulum lacking 40cm high. Barraud and Lund are recorded in Britten F. J. ‘Old Clocks and Watches & Their Makers’ as working from 41 Cornhill 1838-42.
A scratch built model of a circa 1920’s Rolls Royce Silver Ghost four door open top motor car constructed to 1/4 scale by Mr E.L. Bryant from polished aluminum panels on channel section chassis with leaf spring linkage. Fittings include brass radiator grill head lights door fittings and hinges. Dashboard with instrument panel and working steering wheel canopy rubber mounted running boards with fitted spare wheels. The car has wooden spoke driving wheels with brass hubs. No engine fitted. 115cm long.
A model of a live steam ship ‘Lady Gay’ having fitted Stuart Turner ‘Star’ Ultra Lightweight engine linked to horizontal steam boiler with gas burner sight glass pressure gauge steam valve hand feed pump and other usual fittings. A model live steam launch ‘Lady Margaret’ built in the style of a Lake Windemere Victorian Launch with fitted Stuart Turner D10 live steam engine linked to gas fired copper boiler built to the designs of Martin Evans with sight glass pressure gauge displacement lubricator hand feed pump whistle varnish plank finish with rear canopy and figures. Comes with radio control set. Boiler test certificate Perranporth and District Model Engineering Society. Dated 5-12-1991 to 4-12-1993. Working pressure 75 psi. Hydraulic test pressure 150 psi. Certificate No 10015. 175cm long.
An exhibition quality 1/12th scale model of a fully working cross compound mill engine with drop piston valve jet condensing and Corliss exhaust valves. Circa 1905 built from the designs of A Haworth plans by MAP. Brass bound blue polished steel cladding to cylinders high pressure 1in bore and low pressure 1 3/4in bore each with three cast iron ringed pistons stroke 2 3/4in floor mounted start/stop valve. Fish bellied connecting rods with taper wedge adjustment 8in by 4in 18 groove flywheel with hard barring holes fitted with individual wedge shaped windage boards keyed to crankshaft. Main bearing pedestals big end bearing and eccentric straps all with sight feed drip lubricators. Bevel gear drive cam shaft to operate drop valve gear. Gear driven porter type governor with hydraulic damper and overspeed trip safety latch adjustable ballast weight for speed control governor controls HP index valves studded stuffing box glands on piston rods low pressure cylinder driven Edwards type air and condensation extractor pump with adjacent jet condenser fitted with tail slide manual adjustment on low pressure inter trip valves. All mounted on a cast alloy base simulated stone base with a floor finished grey maroon and red. Base board 76cm by 61cm pressure gauges boiler 0-120psi low 0-80psi and vacuum 0-30.
A scratch built model of ‘The Brotherhood’ three cylinder radial engine built by Mr E L Bryant and based on drawings of the engine designed by Mr P Brotherhood to drive boiler fans on HMS Renown. Cylinders 1 1/2in bore x 2in stroke oscillating with no cross guides and shaped pistons to allow ease of running. Mostly unpainted. 42cm high x 38cm wide.
A live steam plant comprising of horizontal open crank mill engine with spoked flywheel eccentric driven steam valve and water pump speed govenor linked to vertical boiler with sight glass pressure gauge and safety valve water tank and mounted on wooden plinth with painted tile work. An ideal restoration project. Base 51cm x 37cm. 56cm high to top of boiler.
A large model open crank live steam horizontal mill engine spoked flywheel 8in diameter cross-head guides with brass oiler cups wooden lagged single cylinder with brass banding and drain cocks cylinder oilers and steam supply valve on cast metal base with wooden plinth. Engine 55cm x 22cm x 22cm.
A 5in gauge model of ‘John Bull’ 0-4-0 locomotive and tender built by Mr E L Bryant from his own research. The locomotive with silver soldered boiler fittings include water and pressure gauges safety valve with brass dome and regulator fitted. Chassis details include inside cylinders 1 1/8in bore x 1 1/2in stroke with 5in wooden spoke driving wheels slip eccentric valve gear working leaf springs oil resevoir with pump. The locomotive is finished in black livery brass bound mahogany plank lagging to boiler wooden buffer beam and driver protection railings with fitted side ladders. The matching tender constructed in unpainted brass work with suspension hand rails and fitted hand feed pump. 96cm long in total. No offical boiler history is available but the boiler was tested to 180 psi by Mr C Vickery of Newton Abbott ME Club on the 25th of June 2005. There was no tender with the full size engine. The original ‘John Bull’ locomotive was built in England by Robert Stephenson and was exported to America and made its first run on the 15th of September 1831. The original locomotive is now exhibited in The National Museum of American History.
A 2in scale Clayton undertype steam wagon built by Mr E L Bryant the silver soldered copper boiler with centre fueling shute and fittings including water and pressure gauges safety valve injector clack and blowdown valves. Engine details include twin cylinders with enclosed valve gear and cranks ratchet operated lubricator eccentric driven feed pump and bypass with single speed chain drive to rear axle. Chassis details include worm and quadrant operated Ackerman steering simulated rubber tyred wheels with wooden spokes and brass hubs rear axle differential unit water tank fitted under rear flat bed with hand feed pump channel section chassis frame and working leaf springs. The model finished in green and red paintwork with brass edging. 101cm long in total. Past boiler history. Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies boiler test certificate No.6838. Expired the 24th of May 2002.
