Outstanding WW2 North Africa Battle of Munassib Military Cross Grouping Awarded to “H Troop” Commander Lieutenant Ronald William Harding, 226 Battery 57th (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Artillery, group consists of 1943 George VI Military Cross housed in the original case with forwarding box, 1939-45 star, Africa star, Italy star and War medal all housed in OHMS forwarding box addressed to Harding. Accompanying the medals are his original officers peaked cap with bronze cap badge, officers brown leather sam browne belt with holster, plated engine turned cigarette case with engraved initials. Also included in the grouping is a quantity of original period paperwork, maps and publications relating to his service during WW2. Included with the paperwork is the official notice sent to his wife notifying her of his award of the Military Cross and the citation for the action it was awarded, telegram about him being wounded by gunshot to the right loin, soldiers service and pay book, various newspaper cuttings and other documents. Amongst the paperwork is a selection of private snap shot photographs taken by Harding whilst in service in North Africa and Italy which includes some excellent images showing both him and comrades posing with captured war booty, image of Harding wearing his steel helmet with the reverse inked “HOT SPOT HAPPY VALLEY MUNASSIB SEPT 1942”, images of him and other officers etc. Bag of mixed tunic buttons and medal ribbons for both him and his father (medals in previous lot) and single British War medal for WW1 from another family member not named Harding. Overall this is a fantastic grouping which has never before been offered on the collectors market. Lieutenant Ronald William Harding was from Eltham, South London. He was educated at Haimo Road School, Eltham and later at Woolwich County School. On leaving education he joined the head office of the Woolwich Equitable Building Society. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 18th April 1940 and rose through the ranks to gain a commission. He served as “H Troop” Commander with 226 Battery 57th (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Artillery at the battle of Munassib in North Africa September 1942, it was during this battle that he was recommended for the Military Cross, which appeared in the London Gazette 14th October 1943, the citation for which is as follows, “This officer has commanded an anti-tank troop since September 1942. At all times he has shown the utmost devotion to duty. No conditions either of machine gunning or shellfire have ever deterred him from the task of getting his guns into the most advantageous position. He has shown himself equally impervious to the effects of fatigue. In particular he distinguished himself in the Battle of Munassib, September 42, when he was detached under command 6 Queen's. He was three days in this position, during which time two of his Nos. 1 and two other soldiers were wounded, but at all times he was actively employed in going round his guns encouraging his men and reconnoitring better positions. Finally he was himself wounded but refused to be evacuated until he had reported to his Battery Commander and arranged for his relief. Altogether his conduct during the whole period has been of the highest and has been a great inspiration to his men” Harding continued to serve with the unit once he recovered from his wounds, he served throughout the campaign in Italy. He left the army in 1946.

SPIDER-MAN (2002) - Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) Glider Maquette A Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) Glider maquette from Sam Raimi's superhero adventure Spider-Man. The Goblin Glider was developed by Norman Osborn (Dafoe) who stole the device upon transforming into the Green Goblin. This maquette is made of resin and is painted metallic faux-silver. Representing high-tech military technology, the glider shows carefully crafted mechanical plates and a complex engine. The glider is mounted by a support beam to a simple display base. CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (2005) - Wonka Factory Bike A Wonka factory bike from the fantastical adaption of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed by Tim Burton. Wonka factory workers rode bikes as they posted signs announcing Willy Wonka’s (Johnny Depp) contest allowing the finders of five Golden Tickets a tour of his legendary chocolate factory. Based on a modified VéloSoleX motorised bicycle, the bike displays a bright red frame and fender skirts, with a small two-stroke engine located at the front. The bike features a black leatherette seat and distinctive white Wonka 'W' vinyl decals located on either side of the back fender, with a small yellow Wonka-branded license plate reading '3' secured to the rear. A metal tin filled with resin to imitate the appearance of glue is secured to the top of the back fender, with a wooden paintbrush held within it. While the bike is in motion, the pedals operate a small motor which allows the glue tin to rotate in a circle. The left-side Wonka decal is coming away slightly from the fender, however overall the bike remains in good condition. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012) - Hero Batpod Vehicle A hero Batpod vehicle from the action films The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, directed by Christopher Nolan. In The Dark Knight Batman (Christian Bale) used the Batpod to escape his Tumbler vehicle during his battle with the Joker (Heath Ledger), and later used the vehicle in his unsuccessful attempt to save Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and in his hunt for Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). In The Dark Knight Rises, Batman and Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) used the vehicle during their battles with Bane (Tom Hardy) and the new League of Shadows. Conceived by Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley, the Batpod was intended to provide an alternative to Batman’s trusty Tumbler vehicle. The design was created by Crowley and brought to life by special-effects supervisor Chris Corbould, who made six of the vehicles for use on The Dark Knight. The unusual shape of the vehicle made engineering a challenge, especially with such unconventional tires fitted. The unique Pod is designed for a rider in a prone position who steers the vehicle with their arms and shoulders, and features advanced design elements such as an exhaust system integrated within the framework. The vehicles were largely driven by stunt rider Jean-Pierre Goy during filming, and were used for numerous events in the promotion of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Crowley received Academy Award® and BAFTA Award® nominations for his work on The Dark Knight. This incredible vehicle features a custom-made chassis with 31" Hoosier racing tyres and a Honda 750 engine. Fibreglass body panels finished in metallic grey paint cover the bike’s engine and handlebars. A pair of cannon barrels made of plastic, resin and fibreglass are secured at the front of the vehicle, and a laser targeting unit is fitted above the right hand grip. A radiator and hydraulics are fitted behind the saddle, and the braking system is operated by controls on the left handle and the right pedal. Black foam padding is installed on the body, saddle and knee rests for comfort whilst riding. Well-used on both productions, as well as in the promotion of the films as part of the Warner Bros. archive, the Batpod displays some wear to the body panels and some light corrosion on the chassis, with damage to the left gun mount as a result of use on set. However, in spite of this wear, the vehicle remains in very good condition and is supplied with a metal support stand for display purposes. A Neo-Gothic Cast Bronze Casket, A 16th Century Style Bronze Table Bell, A Pewter Desk Tray, and a Flat Round Cast Metal Box. The casket of rectangular form decorated with figures in tracery arches and raised on bracket feet, 2¼ ins (6 cms) high, 5½ ins (14 cms) long, 3 ins (7.5 cms) wide. The table bell intricately cast with classical figures beneath pendant lamps and bands of ornamentation, with a cluster of ropes forming the handle, 7 ins (18 cms) in height. The bronze-patinated pewter tray cast with an Austrian man's head overlooking landscape with stags in distance and branch form border sprouting clumps of fir cones and acorns, 8 ins x 4½ ins (20 cms x 12 cms). The lidded roundel pot with black patination cast to simulate black basalt with Madonna della Sedia to the lid and concentric bands of engine turned decoration to the base, 3½ ins (9 cms) in diameter.
