Robert & Courvoisier, a silver open faced quarter-repeating pocket watch: the movement having a pierced and engraved balance cock with a silvered regulation and repeating the hour and quarter on two gongs, the backplate engraved Robert & Courvoisier, No. 30437, the silver dial with engine-turned decoration and floral border engraving, with wavy blued-steel hands, the case with engine-turned decoration to the sides and back, the inner cuvee signed Robert & Courvoisier, No. 30437, diameter 56mm.The Courvoisier family are one of the oldest associated with the clock making industry at La Chaux-de-Fonds and played an extremely influential role in the early history of Swiss carriage clocks. Several generations of the family were involved in the business through various associations. Josué-Robert with his son Louis founded "Robert Josué et fils". In 1781 the firm became "J. Robert et fils et Cie". It was run by Captain Louis Robert and Louis Courvoisier. Robert's widow continued the firm from 1787 as "J. Robert et fils, Courvoisier et Cie". In 1805 the name changed to "Robert, Courvoisier et Cie.The firm Robert & Courvoisier was initially named J. Robert et Fils et Cie, having been established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland by Josué-Robert with his son Louis. In 1781 it was being run by Captain Louis Robert and Louis Courvoisier. Both these makers came from prominent Swiss watch and clock making families. Sold as untested, however appears to be in good condition.
