One man’s passion for over 50 years and now in need of a sympathetic hand to return it to top form.UK-supplied, right-hand drive DHC originally finished in Pastel Blue with Navy Blue leather and a Dark Blue HoodLaycock overdrive and wire wheels from new. Now painted in Triumph Sebring WhiteOwned by the late Harry Neville Harris (and family) since 20/07/1966Last MOT’d in 2005 at 70,034 miles. Large history file, displaying many years of care and enthusiasmA real Barn Find. Whilst complete with resident cobwebs, muck and dust, the car does appear to have been well stored and seems to be a fairly solid basis for restorationWith XK Jaguars remaining as popular as ever, PWT 777 on offer at No Reserve seems an unmissable opportunity.Jaguar Cars launched the XK140 at the London Motor Show in October 1954 with a raft of improvements over its predecessor, the landmark XK120. The styling was enhanced by a revised grille and larger bumpers along with new rear lights, which now incorporated the indicators. The handling was improved by rack and pinion steering and telescopic dampers and the interior space was enlarged to allow the addition of occasional rear seats. The power unit remained Jaguar's well-proven, 3.4-litre, twin-cam six, which now produced 190bhp in standard trim thanks to higher-lift camshafts and revised porting. To ensure reliability, steel bearing caps replaced the previous cast-iron type. A close-ratio gearbox enabled better use to be made of the increased performance whilst a Laycock de Normanville overdrive became an option for the first time. Special Equipment (SE) XK140s came with wire wheels and Lucas fog lamps and could be ordered with an engine developing 210bhp courtesy of a 'C'-type cylinder head. From Jaguar records we can establish that this venerable XK140 DHC was built in right-hand drive on 20/06/1955, finished in Pastel Blue with Navy Blue leather and a Dark Blue Hood. It was fitted with a Laycock overdrive and wire wheels from new and distributed through Appleyards in Leeds before being first registered on 30/06/1955.On offer from a deceased estate, this lovely XK was bought by the late Harry Neville Harris in 1966 (logbook stamped 20/07/1966) and has remained within his family ever since. The most recent MOT is dated 3rd September 2005 with the mileage stated as 70,034 and it’s understood that it was parked up not too long afterwards. At some point in the late eighties, Mr Harris appears to have been researching the history of the car prior to his purchase but without much success. He wrote to a lot of people (correspondence in the file) and a promising communication from the DVLC detailing previous owners is missing the vital page. There is a letter to an Edward Graves from whom Harry appears to have bought the car and the old ‘Buff’ logbook shows that Ralph A Clarke of Lowestoft is registered as the first owner (November 1963) and there is a letter on file from Jaguar to R A Clarke dated July ‘63 so he certainly owned it at that point. An HPI report in January shows just one former keeper before its transfer to Mr Harris's son in 2018, although this would appear to be incorrect. Another part of the mystery is that prior to Harry’s ownership the car was painted Triumph Sebring White, the colour it wears today. With its distinctive registration number (PWT 777) it should be possible to trace the car’s early life and it could be a fun project for its new owner. The substantial History File covers some 55 years with the family and includes rafts of photographs, MOTs, years of invoices, Buff and Green logbooks, Parts List, Wiring diagram, the original Maintenance/Service Handbook and even a fuel ration book which one would assume relates to the Suez crisis. Our vendor is not able to confirm that the Jaguar is a matching numbers car, there may have been an engine swap in the 1980s, and we hope to confirm this, one way or another, however, it seems that the car was finally parked in 2006 due to a clutch issue that would have required engine removal which doesn’t appear to have happened. This is a bit of a ‘Barn Find’, however, whilst complete with resident cobwebs, muck and dust, the car does appear to have been well-stored and seems to be a fairly solid basis for restoration. With XK Jaguars remaining as popular as ever, this original UK RHD project on offer at No Reserve seems an unmissable opportunity. Highly sought-after example retaining a lovely original feel.Supplied by BMW Park Lane and first registered on 27/04/1973Number 306 of the 500 UK right-hand drive examplesFinished in Chamonix White with a black interiorOnly three owners in total (first two were Father and Son)Fully restored in 1984. Engine and running gear rebuilt in 1996In a ‘Carcoon’ from 2005 until 2020. Recommissioned and prepared for sale during last year79,900 miles, MOT/Tax exempt and ready for inspectionThese rare cars are highly sought-after worldwide and this low-ownership example retains a lovely original ‘feel’Visually indistinguishable from its more 'run of the mill' relations, the CS and CSi, the 3.0 CSL (Coupé Sport Leicht) was creative homologation at its best. Success in motorsport sells cars, and the marketing department's requirements led BMW engineers to develop a limited-production 'homologation special' to meet the constrictive framework of the ‘Group 2’ racing class regulations at the time. By removing the trim and using thinner steel for the main bodyshell; aluminium alloy for the doors, bonnet and, boot lid; and Perspex for the side windows, a valuable 300lbs (136kgs) in weight was saved – 'Leicht' indeed.Mechanically, these cars were almost identical to the fuel-injected CSi (which meant 200bhp and 140mph plus) but to take it into the over-3litre class, the engines were bored out slightly to 3003cc. Equipped with all-round independent suspension (McPherson strut front/semi-trailing arm rear), disc brakes and responsive steering, it was wonderfully balanced. Very expensive when new (several hundred pounds more than a 2.7 RS 9110 CSLs are now the most highly coveted BMW of the 1970s with a fabulous competition record. We understand that only1,039 CSLs were built in total with 500 of these finished in right-hand drive for BMW UK. Offered here is number 306 ( #2285306) of the 500 cars built for the UK. It has been enjoyed by only three owners and the first two were father and son. Finished in Chamonix White with a black interior, it was supplied new by BMW Park Lane in Mayfair to its first owner, a Mr. Knight of Bury St. Edmunds. In 1984, it was passed on to his son Jeremy who, in the early nineties, instructed Ron Davis of Bacton Suffolk to fully restore the car. He used his sparkling CSL for many years before eventually asking Munich Legends to offer it for sale and it was purchased by our vendor from there in 1996. He immediately commissioned a full rebuild of the engine and running gear and he used the car regularly until 2005 when it was stored in its dehumidified cocoon. At the beginning of 2020 he decided to recommission the car and fitted a new radiator, three new injectors and went through the fuelling system including refurbishing the tank. In addition, a new clutch slave cylinder was fitted, the gearbox and differential were drained and refilled, new anti-roll bar bushes were fitted front and rear, the brakes were overhauled including some new pipes and servos/cylinders and some remedial paintwork was carried out to boot lid and doors. The current indicated mileage is 79,900, it dates from 1973 so is MOT/TAX exempt and comes with its original service book.On offer from caring private ownership and guided very sensibly, considering recent results for similar cars, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a low ownership, low mileage classic seventies 'homologation special'. Highly sought after around the world, we recommend a personal inspection of this classic BMW.SpecificationMake: BMWModel: 3.0 CSLYear: 1973Chassis Number: 2285306Engine Number: 2285306Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
A superb example of the rare, late-production Motorsport Edition. One of only 181, UK-market, right-hand drive limited editionsFinished in Misano Red, one of only 60Comprehensively equipped with a bespoke Black Nappa Hide interiorJust over 25,000 warranted miles from newImmaculate condition throughout and correctly detailedAccompanied by comprehensive history file, original book pack and tool kitEpitomising style and mechanical prowess when they arrived on the motoring scene in 1976, these beautiful coupés will always stand the test of time with the ability to ‘wow’ anywhere A rare thoroughbred indeed, being one of just 181 produced.Towards the end of the E24's life, BMW introduced a limited edition (factory code Package 129) for the UK market. Based on the 635 Highline they were known as the 635CSi Motorsport Edition and equipped with most of the visible performance features of the M635. The comprehensive specification included Shadowline exterior trim, electric sunroof, rear-seat head restraints, tri-colour M-sport labels, graduated tinted screen, memory electric seats, air conditioning, electric mirrors, headlight wipers, rear spoiler, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a rear window blind. The interior includes hand-stitched Nappa leather on the seats, door panels, centre console, glove box, roof lining, sun visors, door pillars, upper door trim, and dashboard. The 'Motorsport' cars were only available in three colours and this particular example is one of 60 finished in Misano Red with a Black Nappa Hide Interior. With only four owners from new and a recorded mileage of just 25,000, this particular Motorsport Edition 635 is quite simply outstanding and has to be one of, if not ‘the’ best example on the market today. The condition throughout is exceptional, with all factory manuals present, tools as they should be, engine bay detailed etc. The E24 epitomised style and mechanical prowess when they arrived on the motoring scene in 1976 and these beautiful coupes will always stand the test of time with the ability to ‘wow’ anywhere. Values of the rare Motorsport Edition have continued to firm over recent years and we see no reason why this would change, making this immaculate, low mileage example a rather sensible investment. Desirable E30 M3 offered from single UK ownership since import in 1999.Sourced and imported from Germany in 1999 by its single UK enthusiast owner and mostly dry stored as a second carDating from the 06/02/1987, one of the first 4,585 of the European market “AK05” (195bhp) versionsProfessionally repainted and retrimmed to original specification in 2016 including correct new OEM front wingsThe history file includes the original service book, manuals and a wealth of German paperworkMaintained regardless of cost. Recent mechanical overhaul and fresh MOT.The pedigree of the original E30 M3 is obvious all the way from its race-bred four-cylinder engine (designed to rev past 9000 RPM in race form) and dog-leg five-speed gearbox to those wheel arch blisters specified, not to look cool on the Kings Road, but to accept slick tyres of up to 10” in width. It has a design purity and simplicity of specification that hardly any modern car, and certainly not a new M3 could hope to match. Admittedly today's M3 has double the power but it isn't all about BHP. To really understand the M3 you need to get behind the wheel and drive one, and really drive it. Get hold of it by the scruff of the neck and give it the ‘Full Monty’ and you'll be approaching automotive nirvana. Today the E30 M3 in any of its iterations is a wonderful device, but it's the way the car handles combining brilliantly crisp turn-in with unlikely stability and poise, that truly puts you in the seat of a car that, in its short life won a dozen Touring Car championships across the globe and made it without doubt BMWs finest car ever.Offered here is a lovely well maintained E30 M3 that was sourced and imported from Germany in 1999 by its only UK owner. Manufactured on the 6th February 1987, it’s one of the first 4,585 of the European market “AK05” (195bhp) versions produced and was delivered new finished in Diamond Black with Anthracite cloth heated sports seats. This example had been enjoyed as a daily driver for four years before becoming a second car, dry stored and enjoyed on the occasional weekend with good weather. Around 2016, our vendor took the decision to bring his M3 back to its best and set about a complete refresh which included a full respray in its original Diamond Black with a new correct top-tint screen fitted, a complete retrim of the interior in the correct Anthracite cloth, and a programme of mechanical works including, new fuel pump, pressure regulator, fuel lines, filters, pads, discs and all the fluids changed, including gearbox and differential. More recently in 2020, it was fully serviced and inspected by a well-regarded E30 M3 specialist with fresh fluids and a new alternator. The history file contains the original service book, a wealth of paperwork from Germany, previous UK MOTs and its current MOT (January 2022) which, together with other paperwork, supports the converted indicated mileage of 130,000 miles. This is a superb example that has clearly been well looked after with a known history from new. Realistically guided, it could be a great entry into E30 M3 ownership to be enjoyed doing the things that M3s do best or perhaps take it to the next level and present it as a serious Concours contender.SpecificationMake: BMWModel: M3Year: 1987Chassis Number: WBSAK050X01892400Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 212460 KMClick here for more details and images
A classic F-Series Targa restoration project ripe for completion. In regular use prior to the restoration being commencedMinor mechanical issues, new clutch etc. dealt with before the car was professionally strippedShell dipped and repaired. Ready for pre-paint preparationAccompanied by £13,000 worth of boxed new panelsSo much potential to finish in your choice of colour and trimWith the majority of the hard work completed, this is an exciting projectPorsche produced the 911E from 1968 to 1973, (B-F Series) replacing the 911(Lux), and it was designed to be the most comfortable and drivable of the 911 range fitting neatly between the 911T (Touring) and the 911S (Super). The designation 'E' came from the German for injection, Einspritzung, and the mechanical fuel injection system (MFI) was developed jointly by Bosch and Porsche to be used on the 911E and the 911S resulting in more power, better drivability, and a cleaner running engine. In 1972/3 the 911E (E/F-Series) benefited from a larger engine (2341cc), the stronger 915 gearbox, better brakes and the interior offered a few more creature comforts.Purchased in 2002 by its present owner, this left-hand drive, manual gearbox, 2.4-litre, Targa was used sparingly when first acquired, before redundancy hit and the Porsche was put into storage with a 996 being pressed into service for regular use. The long-term goal was always to totally restore this increasingly rare 911, however, a new venture into the motorsport arena meant that time was at a premium and the project languished until 2018 when the bullet was bitten and work started in earnest. Before the entire car was professionally stripped to the bare shell, all the mechanical components were checked over with only minor oil leaks being noted before being rectified and a new clutch was fitted to the five-speed gearbox. The shell was dipped and repairs commenced as required. Whilst this work was being carried out, the purchase of new panels commenced at a cost of approximately £13,000, and these remain in their boxes ready to be fitted. Original seats being difficult to find, generally similar but more comfortable Mazda MX5 seats were sourced, retrimmed to mirror the original specification and are now ready to be fitted, as are a set of desirable 15” ‘Cookie Cutter’ alloy wheels.Unfortunately, circumstances now dictate that our vendor is unable to complete the project hence it being offered in its entirety for the next custodian to complete and enjoy as intended. We are assured that this is a complete car and ripe for refinishing.A sensible project with the majority of the hard work completed offering lots of potential with the added attraction of being able to select any one of the fourteen vibrant hues from the 1973 911 colour palette. We would advise that interested parties view the car and components prior to purchase to fully appreciate the work that has already been completed and to also understand what lies ahead. With the values of these early cars continuing to firm this could be a rewarding project.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 2.4 E TARGAYear: 1973Chassis Number: 9113210791Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 6231607Drive Side: Left-hand DriveClick here for more details and images
Beautifully prepared by the UK’s favourite BTCC team Motorbase for fast-road or competition use.Fastidiously ground-up restored by the Motorbase Classic Performance Dept. using genuine Heritage body panelsFitted with a fully rebuilt 3.6-ltr, 993 engine delivering a reliable 320bhp through a fresh 915 gearbox with a gripper LSDPreviously a 2.7 RS spec race car with good competition history, purchased by Motorbase in 2018 after recent £33,000 expenditure at Porsche guru, Tech9Once the shell had been checked on a jig the 911 was totally rebuilt to the very high standards of a premier motorsport racing teamSubsequently used as a marketing tool and displayed at prestigious events to showcase the standard of finish from the in-house Classic Performance DepartmentA beautifully finished retro 911 suitable for fast-road driving, track-days or full competition in various eligible seriesDelivered new to Germany in 1977, this Porsche 911 2.7 MFI would later be sourced and imported to the UK by experienced Porsche racer Des Winks. This example had been carefully selected from single ownership due to the excellent condition of the bodyshell. During the early 90s, the car would be converted to 2.7 RS Lightweight specification with the intention of using it for competition. Work included new steel front and rear wings and Kevlar bumpers, bonnet and duck-tail whilst inside the 911 was fitted with full Safety Devices front and rear cage and full lightweight interior trim. Preparation was undertaken by Bob Watson including rebuilding the engine and gearbox to 210bhp, 2.7RS-specification with genuine steel RSL rear trailing arms, RSL brakes and Bilstein suspension to run in the 1993 Pirelli Porsche series. In 1995, the car was sold to Steve Rogers and subsequently in 2004 to Mike Nesbit. Around 2006, the car was fitted with a 993, 3.6-litre engine before competing in the Scottish Classic Sports & Saloons. The Porsche was particularly effective with Mike setting a new track record at Knockhill in 2007.Our vendor, Motorbase Performance, purchased this 911 in 2018 as a project to showcase the standard of workmanship achievable in their newly established Classic Performance department. Motorbase Performance are a UK-based race team with many years of experience and success within the industry including 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup Champions and 2014 British GT Champions.Despite having recently received £30,000+ in attention (mainly from Porsche specialist Tech9), the decision was taken to disassemble the old racer and rebuilt it from the ground up in-house at their motorsport facility near Brands Hatch. Photographs and invoices within the file show the shell stripped and rebuilt using genuine heritage parts and panels purchased from Porsche GB. All mechanical parts were stripped and rebuilt where necessary and all electrical items checked and repaired as required. The shell was then professionally finished inside and out by their expert paint-shop in a stunning shade of grey before reassembly. The suspension geometry, including the Bilstein dampers, was set-up correctly for fast-road or race use. The interior was enhanced with a new set of Corbeau race seats and the exterior finished with new genuine headlamps and 16” Fuchs alloys (a set of 15” wheels and tyres accompany the car for track-day use). Also accompanying the car is a substantial history file including the aforementioned restoration documents, detailed history back to the cars import in 1989, current V5 certificate.Since completion, the car has had light use and has been on display at Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Silverstone Classic events for Motorbase to showcase their Classic Performance department. In summary, this very special Porsche 911 has been lovingly restored by one of the UK’s best-known racing teams using original parts and utilising many years of motorsport knowledge and experience. Built for fast-road, track-day or full competition use this is a very cool versatile classic 911 with current Supercar performance.Viewing of this cracking 911 is highly recommended and, as you would expect, the car fires into life on the first turn of the key, sounds amazing and is described as performing extremely well. Finished in original Viper Green, this Concours-winning, matching numbers 2.4S is a rare, 1972-only “side oil-fill” example.Manufactured on the 15th February 1972 as one of just 1,430 “side oil fill-oel klappe” 911sConfirmed as the original engine and gearbox and factory Viper Green (3838) by the Porsche CoADelivered new to Italy, the car remained there until 1997, subsequently UK registered on 1st September 2002Invoices for some £25,000 are present for a full engine and gearbox rebuild by Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd.The bare metal re-spray, in original Viper Green, was completed by Queenswell Coachworks of ForfarThe extensive history file contains invoices to the value of around £50,000 and a photographic record of the restorationPresented to auction with some 59,600km or 36,700 miles (atoc) and an MOT valid until July 2021In the early Seventies, Porsche were in a rich vein of competition success so it’s not surprising that the 2.4-litre 911 variants of that time are considered a reflection of that engineering prowess and only surpassed by the legendary 911 2.7 RS of 1973. Lessons learned at the circuit resulted in a number of revised settings for the new 911s mainly affecting braking and handling and amongst those were modified suspension pick-up points and the adoption of Koni dampers. Power from the 2.4-litre, fuel-injected unit had now reached 190bhp, giving a wonderful free-revving engine resulting in 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 144mph. The much more user-friendly Type 915 five-speed gearbox completed the package. In 1972 Porsche made the decision to move the position of the oil tank from behind the right rear wheel to in front of it, changing weight distribution by offsetting some of the weight of the engine, positioned like any 911 over the rear axle, and in doing so generating improvements to handling when close to the limit.Porsche installed the oil filler flap on the right rear quarter panel but, as is common knowledge, this was frequently mistaken for the fuel filler, particularly in the US, so it was subsequently changed back for the 1973 model year.Porsche produced just 1,430 of these 1972 911s known as the “side oil fill” or "oelkappe" with this very fine example leaving the factory on the 15th February 1972. Destined for Italy, this 2.4S specified in Viper Green with a black interior stayed there until 1997, returning to Germany for a spell until it was imported and subsequently registered in the UK on the 1st September 2002. The car was entered into the Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club Concours event at Walton Hall in 2003, winning the Autobahn Best Display Porsche award and subsequently featuring on the club magazine’s front cover. The car was treated to a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration from 2012 with a bare metal respray in the original colour of Viper Green by Queensway Coachworks of Forfar, and a photographic record contained in a CD-ROM is included in the extensive history file. The interior was refurbished, the black leatherette seats and dashboard present beautifully today, as do the dials, switchgear, carpeting and perforated headlining. The original engine and gearbox were rebuilt by renowned Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd. of Lincolnshire, at a cost of some £25,000 less than 2,000 kilometres ago.Offered to auction by a long-standing Silverstone Auctions customer, the car has been stabled alongside one of the finest collections of rare Jaguars and modern Porsches since 2016. General servicing and maintenance have been carried out regardless of use and the car was last serviced by Anthony Seddon Racing of Cheshire in 2019 at 59,559 kilometres. Hardly driven since, the odometer now shows an equivalent of some 36,700 miles at the time of cataloguing. The MOT Certificate is valid until the 7th July 2021 and is accompanied by previous MOTs, past tax discs, owner’s manual, various magazines featuring the car and its tool kit.We love an outlandishly painted Porsche at Silverstone Auctions and a “side oil fill” 2.4S with matching numbers, extensive bills, near twenty-years of UK residency that presents this well is always a pleasure to offer to a discerning enthusiast.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911Year: 1972Chassis Number: 9112300797Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 59620 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
Bare-shell restoration recently completed to the very highest of standards with just 28 miles covered since.Finished in gleaming Schwarz with a matching black interiorSuperb craftsmanship, the panel gaps and shut-lines are factory perfectPeriod-correct 1600cc ‘S’ engine, front disc brake conversion and 12v electricsPorsche Certificate of AuthenticityOnly 28 miles since the rebuild. Will require running-inThe 356 is acknowledged as Porsche’s first production car and was a lightweight and nimble handling, rear engine, rear wheel drive, two-door sports car available in hardtop, coupé, and open configuration. Over a 15-year production period, the 356 evolved from an aluminium bodied coupé with an 1100cc air-cooled flat-four engine to a 2,000cc four-cam Carrera engine producing 130bhp. The 356 "B" was produced from 1960 to 1963 and saw body changes that included a curved front boot lid and rounded wings compared to that of the 356A and new front and rear sheet metal. To comply with US-Federal specifications, the front and rear bumpers were raised and over-riders added. Other key changes were raised headlamps, larger door handles, upgraded brakes and some improvements to the cabin. Design innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsport success and popularity which continues to this very day.Originally supplied to its first owner in Culver City, USA in 1963, this superb 356B T6 Coupé has covered a minimal 28 miles since the completion of a professional, nut and bolt, restoration to exemplary standards of workmanship throughout. The gleaming Black paintwork has a shine so deep that you feel that you could dive into it, the panel gaps and shut-lines are factory perfect and the attention to detail in the matching black interior is remarkable. The dashboard, instruments and period radio present really well but, in the interests of originality, have not been restored.Originally purchased by our vendor some years ago, as a partially completed project, the decision was taken to start again from a bare shell to ensure that the end product would be worthy of any detailed inspection, something that we encourage and welcome pre-sale. Sensible enhancements were included in the build such as a period-correct 1600cc ‘S’ engine, front disc brake conversion and 12 volt electrics with genuine Porsche parts being employed wherever possible. This superb Porsche is now ready to be enjoyed once again, so fresh from restoration that a period of ‘running in’ would be advised. Rarely do examples come on to the market that have just had all the hard work done and are viable at a fraction of the build cost. As well as being a competent and sporting Coupé, this smart black 356 is a perfect representation of the late fifties/early sixties period that is absolutely in fashion at the moment, and this desirable example would be welcome anywhere."Strike while the iron is hot" as they say.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 356 B T6 COUPEYear: 1963Chassis Number: 212019CATransmission: ManualEngine Number: P820845SDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 27 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
1967 Volkswagen ‘Samba’ Split-screen T1 21-window camper directly from Jay Kay.Rare Samba model, especially in right-hand drive, the grail of spilt-screensMuch expenditure to make more driveable, comfortable and just plain coolLarge history file with dozens of receipts for maintenance and restorationPowerful 2.0-litre engine and a cosmetic restoration in 2016Original Devon Camper interiorThe Volkswagen Type 2 was introduced in 1950 as a multi-variant utility vehicle, known as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus (depending on body type). It was devised as an evolution of the Volkswagen Type 1, the original Beetle. The first generation of these versatile vehicles (named the T1) were produced with distinctive split-screens (‘splitties’) from 1950 until 1967.Only two models were originally offered, the Kombi and the Commercial. The Microbus was added in May 1950, joined by the Deluxe Microbus in June 1951.The Deluxe Microbus (known as the ‘Sunroof Deluxe’ in America) was the most luxurious version of the Volkswagen Transporter T1. The Deluxe model featured eight rear side windows and two rear corner windows, making it the 15-window (not available in Europe). Meanwhile, the European-market Deluxe Microbus, with its additional eight small skylight windows is, accordingly, the 23-window. From the 1964 model year with its wider rear door, the rear corner windows were discontinued, making the latter two, the 13-window and 21-window respectively. The 23 and later 21 window variants each carry the famous nickname 'Samba' and are especially revered.Instead of a sliding door at the side, the Samba had two pivot doors and a fabric sunroof and were mostly painted in two colours, usually with the upper part coloured white and the two-coloured sections being separated by a decorative strip. Sambas also have a more comprehensive dashboard than the normal T1 and are fitted with a so-called "hat" over the front split-screen which acts as a sun-visor for the driver. When Volkswagen started producing the successor to the T1 (the T2) the company also stopped producing the Samba, so sadly no Sambas were available in later versions of the Volkswagen Transporter, making these early and rare models very sought-after and collectable.Presented here is a 1967 VW Microbus Deluxe 21-window ‘Samba'. This bus was manufactured in right-hand drive, making it particularly rare, in the last year before the end of true T1 manufacture. This remarkable example of Volkswagen's coveted Samba was manufactured at the Wolfsburg factory and was delivered to its first registered owner in the UK on 1st August 1967. It’s previous owner, prior to Jay, purchased it in 2005, shortly after it had been renovated. We are informed that he had been looking for the perfect split-screen camping experience and, whilst searching for just such a bus, he stumbled across this Samba which immediately drew his attention as it was a UK-registered, right-hand drive, 21-window model with its original Devon Camper interior, an extremely rare and special vehicle which would be fantastic for family camping trips. At this time, it was found to have a Porsche 912 engine installed with such upgrades as stiffer/lowered suspension and disc brakes which vastly improved its handling and stopping capabilities. Other than these ‘nods to modernity’, the Samba was unspoilt and had retained its original paint and bodyshell which was in good condition. Upon sale, the previous owner removed the Porsche engine and refitted the original engine, however, after taking the vehicle back home to London, it was decided that a 2-litre flat-four unit would be installed in place of the original engine to give a bit more power and usability to keep up with modern-day traffic. It has proved a very reliable and able companion, having been consistently serviced by Jacks Garage in Notting Hill from where many receipts can be shown for work carried out. In 2016, it underwent a full bare-metal restoration ensuring it was returned to pristine condition and that the paintwork was as good as the mechanicals. Anyone who has restored one of these vehicles knows this is no minor process with much expense required. To ensure excellent drivability, it was decided that a few upgrades would be welcome and these included all new electrics, a replacement roof and power-steering which has vastly improved the driving experience of this 51-year-old bus.The full specification includes enhanced suspension and brakes, a new 2.0-litre, flat-four engine with ‘BugPack’ performance parts and filters, ‘Geneberg’ short gear changer and an oil temperature gauge. Lifestyle additions include iPod connection, a leisure battery, a modern heating module, a full original Devon Camper interior with retractable roof, interior lights, and worktop/table with ample storage. All the above ensures this classic bus is usable in modern traffic and still looks the part at festivals, camping and weekend trips. This genuine Samba is the perfect balance between 60s camper-van cool, VW enthusiast credibility and real-life modern drivability. It’s fast enough but not too loud, long-legged and easy to drive, comfortable with good ride quality, and is just waiting for its next trip!SpecificationMake: VOLKSWAGENModel: SAMBA SPLIT SCREEN T1 21 WINDOW CAMPERYear: 1967Chassis Number: 247113415Transmission: ManualEngine Number: AC8769323Make: Interior Colour: Camper / GreyClick here for more details and images
A very rare, original Spike Anderson-converted ‘Samuri’ later developed into a ‘Super Samuri’.Right-hand drive, standard road car originally imported from CyprusPurchased by ‘Modsports’ racer, Eddie Stephens and built as a ‘fast road’ Samuri by Spike Anderson in late 1974In dry storage for many years before being bought by James Morris, author of the ‘Haynes Super Profile - Datsun 240Z/260Z/280Z’Fully restored and upgraded to Super Samuri-spec during 1997/98 by James in collaboration with ‘Z’ specialist, Kevin Bristow and Spike Anderson himselfSold to Paul Kennelley in late 2015. Totally gone through by 240Z specialists Fourways Engineering in January 2016, (£6,700 @ 5,704 miles)With our vendor since May 2016. The current mileage is 5,821 and the car remains in sparkling conditionSupplied with a C of A from Spike Anderson confirming that HS30-012065/ SMR 256N is one of his original Samuri cars and that he was involved in its later conversion to a Super SamuriThe Datsun 240Z was the first generation of 'Z' two-seat coupés, produced by Nissan in Japan from 1969 to 1978 and its dramatic looks appear to owe a considerable amount to a 1960s styling concept drawn by Count Albrecht Goertz for Datsun, presumably at a time when they were considering ways to break into the European sports car market. The new car was powered by a lusty 2.4-litre, straight six, overhead-cam engine developing around 150bhp and enabling a 0-60 time of 8 seconds and a top speed of 125mph, rather impressive for the period. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard and the car featured independent suspension all round with MacPherson Struts at the front and Chapman-links at the rear. Rack and pinion power steering and front disc brakes meant that the 240Z was a thoroughly modern package. In the 70s, 240Zs were hot property everywhere, and given that the car's drivetrain was heavily based on the Datsun 510 saloons used widely in motorsport, it was only a matter of time before 24OZs (or the 24ounce as they were frequently called) came under the scrutiny of those companies that like to modify the road-going products of mass manufacturers. One of the most notable of these was the Samuri Motor Company, who in the early 70s, built modified 240 and 260Zs for sale as turn-key offerings. Its charismatic owner, Spike Anderson, had trained at Broadspeed in the 1960s working on Minis and Anglias before going on to set up his own business called Race Head Services. One of the first cars to benefit from his experience was a humble Datsun 1200 from which he managed to extract 105bhp! and this was the first car to carry the "Samuri" name, a deliberate mis-spelling as the 'Samurai' trade name was not available. His next project was a standard 240Z and, inevitably, the Z was taken apart and given the Spike Anderson treatment. The results were impressive, very impressive and following a glowing review of the car in a national magazine, it wasn’t long before the Samuri Motor Company was born, offering modified Zs and performance parts to the buying public. This, right-hand drive, 240Z was bought new in Cyprus by a serving British Army Captain while on a tour of duty - it still has a bullet hole in the rear deck from being ambushed by insurgents - and was later privately imported into the UK upon his return. The car was subsequently sold to well-known ‘Modsports’ racer, Eddie Stephens, who took it to Spike Anderson for conversion to ‘fast road’ Samuri specification around the end of 1974. The Samuri took in a few ‘production car’ races before Eddie, unfortunately, managed to drop it into a ditch on the way home one evening and, the following day, it was pushed into his barn where it was to remain for many years. It was eventually rescued by James Morris, the knowledgeable author of the Haynes Super Profile book, Datsun 240Z/260Z/280Z. A full restoration and upgrade was carried out during 1997/98 by James in collaboration with rally-driver and ‘Z’ specialist, Kevin Bristow and the project was guided and supervised by Spike Anderson himself. Pleasingly, within the history file, is a document signed by Spike (20/08/2000) confirming that HS30-012065 (SMR 256N) was built by Samuri Conversions as a fast-road Samuri for Eddie Stephens and also confirming that he assisted in the Morris/Bristow restoration to ‘road-race’ Super Samuri specification. The finished car featured in Classic & Sports Car magazine (November 1998 issue).Full details of the car’s spec at the time are in the file (too lengthy to list here) but include an engine over-bore to 86mm for a capacity of 2565cc, gas-flowed big-valve head, ‘works’ cam, Mangoletsi manifold, triple Weber 45DCOEs, heavy-duty transmission, extensively modified/upgraded, brakes and suspension and much more. Externally the car was de-bumpered and smoothed off, fitted with extended wheel arches and spoilers, and finished in the correct Super Samuri livery (Datsun 110 ‘Flame’ and Chrysler ‘Tango’ metallic) with hand-applied signwriting and coach lines. In March 2007, SMR 256N was offered for sale by Bonhams and purchased by JD Classics who registered it in their name on 28/08/2007. They, in turn, sold it to Paul Kennelley of Pevensey on 28/10/2015 who taxed it on the 1st of November and the MOT in the file indicates that it was tested on 19/11/2015 at a mileage of 5,645. He wasted no time in going through the car from one end to the other, listing everything that needed attention and delivering the car to marque experts, Fourways Engineering, on the 3rd of December. The detailed invoice (9/02/2016 @ 5,704 miles) runs to 3 x A4 pages, totals £6,666.43 and includes dozens of small jobs, clips, brackets, hoses, pumps, brakes, bolts, washers as well as some larger items (s/steel exhaust + manifold, chassis repairs, new Ridgard seats, Luke Harnesses and a Moto-Lita wheel). It’s almost as if he had given Fourways carte blanche to just provide whatever the car needed. On the 16th of February, the rejuvenated Datsun was popped onto the rolling-road at BD Engineering at Newington and the print-out in the file indicates that it was producing 183.1bhp at 6300rpm.In May of 2016, our vendor became the latest owner of this remarkable car. The current indicated mileage is 5,821 and, as is evident from our photographs, it remains in wonderful condition. With the popularity of these cars in period and, possibly even more so now, they were frequently replicated, however, to find an original Spike Anderson-built Samurai is rare, let alone one that was further developed under his auspices some twenty years later into a Super Samuri. Unique in the proper sense of the word.Prior to sale the car has been refreshed with work done to the brake and clutch systems as recently as early February 2021 by Sussex Sports Cars, the total monies spent exceed £1,500.SMR 256N is supplied with a well-presented history file containing V5s, older MOTs, invoices, Bills of Sale, the original post-conversion spec and the aforementioned warranty from Spike Anderson (Samuri Conversions) confirming the car’s provenance. We welcome any inspection of this important motor car. UK-supplied, only 25,500 miles from new and freshly serviced. • The first Bertone-designed production Ferrari• One of only 547 right-hand drive, UK-delivered examples• Supplied by Maranello Concessionaires on 15 July 1976• Classically finished in gleaming Rosso Corsa over Nero• The 3-litre, quad-cam, all-alloy V8 produces 250bhp• Genuine 22,550 miles from new• Only available due to lack of space required for more recent acquisitionsIntroduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production car from Modena to feature a mid-engined V8, a layout that would become common to their core range for decades to come, along with the first production model to feature Bertone styling rather than Pininfarina bodywork. The styling was controversial at the time, with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make space for a 2+2 configuration. The 3.0-litre V8 was integrally joined with the gearbox and had an alloy block and heads with dual overhead camshafts fed through 4 Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. As is often the way, Bertone's styling effort probably looks better now than it ever has, but at the time, the proportions gave traditionalists an attack of the vapours. For all this, the car was a huge success being bigger and more usable than any other mid-engine car had managed or would manage for a while. More than 3,600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. Today, these '70s Ferraris have come of age with their classic looks and brilliant handling and are as fast as you are ever going to need in the real world, with a top speed of over 150mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of 6.4 seconds. This Dino GT4, finished in its original factory shade of Rosso Corsa with a Nero interior, has covered an incredibly low 22,550 miles from new (NB the odometer was replaced at 14,000 miles with just 8,550 miles being covered since). Having formed part of a private collection for some years, this particular Ferrari is only now available to make space for more recent acquisitions. With significant works by Moto Technique of West Molesey, Surrey some years ago, including a total body refurbishment, engine and gearbox overhaul, the condition is excellent. With little use since but constant and regular care, it is difficult to criticise this car in any serious way. With a striking exterior, the interior presenting extremely well and the engine bay nicely detailed, this very low mileage example is one that deserves your serious consideration. Just serviced and issued with a fresh MOT, it’s on the button and ready for the summer ahead. A highly recommended and inexpensive route into Prancing Horse ownership.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: DINO GT4Year: 1976Chassis Number: 12612Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 12612Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 8551 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black clothClick here for more details and images
The ultimate modern-day Ferrari; rare, coveted and with just 1,600 miles. One of only 599 examples ever made and just two owners in totalNew to a Japanese collection, then bought by our vendor from UK specialists DK Engineering in 2015Just 2,577 km (1,601 miles); never seen rain, superb condition throughoutAll books and factory toolkit are still in their original plastic bagsHigh specification in Rosso Corsa (not Rosso Scuderia) paintwork, Grigio Silverstone Opaco roof, full Alcantara interior with Tessuto inserts, Rosso stitching, stitched prancing horses and Rosso harnessesUnderstandably, Ferrari uses the coolest ‘go-faster’ tag in the known-universe sparingly. History shows that only twice before has ‘The Scuderia’ attached the ultimate mark of speed and desirability to the rear of a road car. Those two cars were the 1962 250GTO and the 1984 288GTO - both were defined by performance and an intention to go racing. ‘Gran Turismo Omologato’ is the full description, and homologation was the purpose in both cases, albeit with vastly differing outcomes. The 250 enjoyed a great career, but the 288 GTO was born of the Group B regulations that never delivered the Porsche 959-versus-GTO-at-Le-Mans battles we all craved – leaving it as simply the fastest and most desirable Ferrari road car of its day.So how does this new car, launched in 2010, based on a road machine and with no specific intention to go racing, justify the name? Well, according to Ferrari, it does so by taking much of the technology from the track-only 599XX and making it available with a numberplate: it ‘homologates’ the XX for road use.The aims of this project were, in fact, very simple. Besides translating some of the new technologies wrought through the XX project into a road application, the intention was to extract maximum circuit performance from the 599 package, but still retain enough usability for the car to be a viable road car.The 599 is not an obvious base for a light-weight sports car. It may boast an aluminium bodyshell, but it’s a big machine with a 6.0-litre V12 wedged between the front wheels. The path to sharper responses has of course embraced the standard methodology: make it lighter and add more power. But it’s the sheer number and scope of the changes that impresses, helping to justify its 2010 price tag of £299,300 and underpins Ferrari’s assertion that this is much closer to being a 599XX with numberplates than a 599 HGTE-Plus.For starters, engine power rises from 612bhp to a staggering 661bhp; internal friction has been reduced by 12% through all manner of tweaks: DLC (Diamond Like Coating) for the tappets, super-finished cam lobes, a new shape for the crankshaft weights and a new design of piston skirt. The compression ratio rose from 11.2 to 11.9 and the breathing was completely overhauled.Ferrari has crafted a new aluminium intake system that uses shorter runners and saves 2kg, the exhaust system is ‘hydroformed’ – effectively blown into shape, thereby avoiding the heavy seams that come with even the best welding. The process thins the metal from 1.5mm to 0.8mm and saves a remarkable 15kg over a standard system. Throughout the car, an impressive 100kg has been shed.Gear ratios are down 6%, the car now hitting its claimed 208 mph maximum on the 8400rpm rev-limiter. If the engine work is comprehensive, the chassis goes even further: new springs, dampers, electronic systems, wheels, tyres and a new generation of carbon-ceramic brake that uses, for the first time in a road car, a ceramic pad material. At Fiorano, the car is brutally fast, lapping a second faster than any other Ferrari, and that’s despite weighing 300kg more than a 430 Scuderia. The GTO’s list of go-faster aids is bewildering. It uses the now familiar F1-Trac system to harness those 661 horses, but it now has SCM2, which is a second-generation ‘Skyhook’ damper – the type with magnetized fluid that can alter viscosity through electric current. The main difference on the GTO is that it is fitted with three accelerometers from the XX that relay real-time data to SCM2, whereas the GTB’s dampers have to use approximate data. It’s very, very clever stuff. The latest F1 automated manual is superb, giving 60m/s shifts at Fiorano (that’s 40m/s faster than a GTB) yet able to slur the action in town. The noise? The outside world is treated to four-fifths of the Le Mans soundtrack. In its upper reaches, the V12 gets sharp and angry. Performance is other-worldly, Ferrari claims it’ll do a standing km in 19.9sec, which makes it one of the fastest cars ever made in 2010.You could go on about this machine for an entire website - the thinner glass is 5.5kg lighter, forged wheels and titanium bolts save an eye-popping 22kg, and Sabelt’s snug carbon seats trim another 17kg. It’s a detail masterpiece, a track genius, a road tonic and yet another great Ferrari. Oh, and it fully deserves the badge. The car presented here is as close to a new 599 GTO as you are likely to find, a 2011 example with just over 1,600 miles covered and, in a condition, which wholly reflects this. The car has a very high specification with Rosso Corsa (not Rosso Scuderia) paintwork, Grigio Silverstone Opaco roof, full Alcantara interior with Tessuto inserts, Rosso stitching, stitched prancing horses and Rosso harnesses. It is supplied with all of its original and complete book-pack, covers, radio/key code cards and spare key.Being offered for sale from a discerning private collector of best-of-the-best classic and modern-classic cars, this GTO has been serviced / looked after by the famous 'Cornes' dealership of Japan, then DK Engineering and Dick Lovett Ferrari in the UK, and is undoubtedly one of the best examples available anywhere. Bought by our vendor in 2015 from DK Engineering who described it as 'an exceptional example', going on to say in an accompanying letter in the history file 'it is without doubt one of the best condition cars we have seen recently, especially in regards to the underside (of the car) which I looked closely at in the process of the service and PDI carried out in our workshops'. There is all the reassurance you could want about its ownership/servicing in Japan, its meticulous transportation to the UK (photos & paperwork etc.) and its subsequent full inspection with one of the UK's most revered Ferrari specialists. Regarded by many Ferrari enthusiasts as ‘ultimate modern-day Ferrari’, with that tangible GTO magic well and truly present, the associated kudos of knowing what that really is, and enough power and go to satisfy the demands of drivers seeking thrills from any one of the current crop of supercars, the 599 GTO might just be the high-tide mark for normally aspirated, big-engined sportscars full-stop.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 599 GTOYear: 2011Chassis Number: ZFF70RDJ000179278Transmission: Semi-autoEngine Number: 170329 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 2577 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: Nero Alcantara seats with RossoClick here for more details and images
A simply glorious example of Ferrari’s legendary GT with recent Classiche accreditation applied for.Supplied in May 1968 to dealers in Verona, ItalyNow classically finished in Rosso Corsa with a Nero interior‘Classiche’ confirmed correct engine, gearbox and body numbersFrom long-term ownership between 2005 and 2017 with over £30,000 spent during this period with JDR, TDH Classics and Hoyle-FoxFully retrimmed, new headlining, woodwork and dashboard refinishedBorranis rebuilt and polished. New stainless steel exhaustRecent attention (21/01/2021) brake rebuild, fuel system drain and flush, ignition service, and oil and filter service with fresh fluidsFully inspected for ‘Classiche Certification’, the £8,400 account has been paid and the glorious ‘Red Box’ is expected any day nowSupplied with its V5c, older MOTs, Ferrari Classiche ‘Vehicle Production Data’ sheet, FIVA Identity Card, detailed invoices and a Workshop Manual with the latest revisionsDebuted at the March 1966 Geneva Auto Show, Ferrari’s 330 GTC was a svelte, high-speed coupé for two with a luxurious and remarkably spacious interior. Intended to fill a gap in Ferrari's line-up between the four-seat 330GT 2+2 and the racer-on-the-road 275GTB, the 330GTC was essentially a closed version of the 275GTS and Pininfarina's understated coachwork combined elements of the latter at the rear, with touches of the 500 Superfast at the front. It was a spectacularly good looking car at the time and the passing five decades has done nothing to change that. The short (94.5" wheelbase) chassis followed Ferrari's established practice of tying together sturdy oval-section main tubes in a steel spaceframe, whilst the suspension was independent all round by means of wishbones and coil springs. First introduced on the 275GTB in 1964, the rear suspension incorporated the five-speed gearbox in a transaxle, an arrangement that created more even weight distribution and a delightful handling balance.Beneath the 330GTC's elegant bonnet nestled the 4.0-litre, 300bhp version of Ferrari's familiar, twin-cam, 60-degree V12, as used in the 330GT 2+2 enabling 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and over 150mph in true V12 GT style.Much development work had concentrated on the reduction of noise levels in the cabin, which was luxuriously equipped in the best Gran Turismo manner: leather seats, electric windows and heated rear screen were standard; radio, air conditioning and Borrani wire wheels the options. With the ability to cover ground so quickly, excellent ride comfort and sure-footed handling, Ferrari could justifiably claim the 330GTC to be the finest way for two people and their luggage to cross a Continent.According to its Ferrari Classiche ‘Vehicle Production Data’ sheet, Chassis number #11257 left Maranello in May 1968 bound for dealers Dino Ravasio & Figli in Verona and finished in Grigio Argento with a Pelle Nera Franzi leather interior. In common with many Ferraris in the seventies, it found a new home in America and, when we next hear of it in 2004, it was resplendent in a gleaming coat of Rosso Corsa. There is a Sale Invoice on file from Heritage Classics of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood detailing the purchase of #11257 on March 30, 2004 (indicated mileage 19,595) by Hal Danby of Winthrop Hall, Sudbury and a copy of the Ownership Title is in the car’s history file as is an earlier Arizona Certificate of Title with the mileage at 19,116.The Ferrari arrived in the UK on 22/05/2004 and within the file, there are documents indicating that all Duties and VAT have been paid. Quite early in its stay, it was issued with a FIVA Identity Card which states that the car was built in 1966 when it was in fact 1968, easily corrected with the aid of the soon to arrive Classiche Certification.#11527 was to remain in the care of Mr Danby for the next 13 years and during this period no expense was spared in bringing this superb motor car up to this amazing standard. In addition to the normal maintenance and regular servicing inherent in Ferrari ownership, the car was fully retrimmed in Nero leather, new boot carpet and a new headlining fitted, all interior wood finishes, door cappings and the dashboard were restored and refinished, the Borranis were rebuilt and the spinners re-chromed, the carburettors were rebuilt, a new stainless steel exhaust fitted, the brakes rebuilt and the distributors were adjusted to suit the new electronic ignition. Over the years this attention amounted to over £30,000 and there are detailed invoices in the file from JDR, TDH Classics and Hoyle-Fox.In late 2017, the 330 became the property of our vendor and has been used lightly since with the odometer indicating 26,358 miles. With the car is an invoice from LM Supercars of Suffolk for £3,763.28 dating from 22/01/2021 relating to an extensive brake rebuild (callipers, pistons, master cylinder), fuel system drain and flush, ignition service (points, distributor, HT leads), oil and filter service with fresh fluids, a new Platinum battery and other sundry items to ensure that the car is ready for the sale.More importantly, however, is the news that #11257 has been fully inspected for official Ferrari ‘Classiche Certification’, the £8,400 account has been paid and the glorious ‘Red Box’ is expected any day now. This is a simply lovely example of one of the best looking cars in history. It has just enjoyed a day or two being mechanically prepared for the sale and another day being polished and detailed to within an inch of its life. If you are considering the purchase of a classic sixties GT Ferrari, we strongly urge you to make an appointment to spend some time with #11257. It may change your life. This rare, mid-seventies, V8 GTB has been the subject of a simply breathtaking restoration.Very rare. Just 154 ‘Vetroresina’ (Italian for fibreglass) examples left the factory in right-hand drive destined for the UKThese early 308s are much sought-after being lighter in weight and equipped with carburettors and dry-sump lubricationDelivered to the UK in early January 1977 and registered to its first owner on 01/08/1977Owned by John Anderson, the Chairman of the Ferrari Owners Club for 20 yearsRaced in class ‘O’ (Originale) of the Ferrari Owners Club Championship from 1990 to 1995Acquired by our vendor in 2017 and subject to a comprehensive restoration at a cost of approximately £120,000 (fully detailed invoices)Supplied with the car is a packed history file with V5s, lots of old MOTs and Tax discs, copies of the Ferrari News, Classic Car Magazine from November 1997 featuring the car, reams of invoices from every era, race results, factory correspondence, a brand new Service Schedule/records handbook and best of all, a seriously impressive, A3 landscape, hardback, glossy photo-book displaying the restoration of #20521.We believe that this is the best vetroresina-bodied 308GTB available anywhereIntroduced at the Paris Salon in 1975, the stunningly beautiful 308 GTB, Ferrari's second V8-engined road car, marked a welcome return to Pininfarina styling following the Bertone-designed Dino 308 GT4. Badged as a 'proper' Ferrari rather than a Dino, the newcomer had changed little mechanically apart from a reduction in wheelbase, whilst retaining its predecessor's underpinnings and transversely mounted quad-cam, 3.0-litre V8, which now featured dry-sump lubrication. In road tune, this superbly engineered power unit produced 255bhp, an output good enough to propel the aerodynamically efficient 308 to a top speed of 150mph (240km/h). Produced initially with glass-fibre (Vetroresina) bodywork - the first time this material had been used for a production Ferrari - the Scaglietti-built 308 GTB using steel after April 1977. This change in construction brought with it a considerable weight penalty (around 80kg) and consequently a reduction in performance, as well as increased susceptibility to corrosion. Naturally, anyone wanting to race a 308 GTB started out with the Vetroresina version if they could. The car presented here is a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina, a right-hand drive/UK-supplied matching numbers car, one of just 154 examples that left the factory in this configuration destined for the UK (only 712 Vetroresina 308 GTB coupés in total were ever produced).Ferrari 308GTB #20521 was built in 1976 and delivered to the UK market importer, Maranello Concessionaires in January 1977 to fulfil their order (F/112) for a RHD 308 GTB, presumably for stock. There is a copy of this order in the history file for a “308/GTB (RHD) complete with five cast-alloy wheels, tyres and toolkit, finished in Rosso Chiaro Ferrari 20-R-190 with Black Leather (VM 8500) and black carpets”. There is also a copy of the invoice (3/01/1977) from Ferrari to Maranello for a total of £6,744.00Some months later the car was purchased by a Mr CW Thompson of Sheffield and there is a similar invoice in the file (15/07/1977) from Maranello to him for £12,815.17. According to its current V5, it was initially UK-registered as TPB 650S on 1/08/1977.Perhaps Mr Thompson didn’t get on with it as it soon changed hands and, on 23/06/1978, John M Anderson became its second owner. John was Chairman of the Ferrari Owners Club and was to keep the 308 for just over 20 years. (Registered 47 JMA). At some point, he decided to race the car and it was race-prepared by Graypaul of Loughborough to run in Class ‘O’ (Originale) of the Ferrari Owners Club Championship from 1990. The modifications for this class were minor - (low front spoiler, racing seat and harness, half roll-cage, uprated shocks and a fire extinguisher)- and easily reversible. There is a set of seasonal race results in the file showing that#20521 took part in 50 races (1986/87 and ‘90-’95) with 21 podiums and only 1 DNF. 1995 appears to be his last season and there are invoices on file from Mortimer Houghton Turner (April 1996 - £16,763) for “post-racing refurbishment”.Now registered VOP 418S, the Ferrari was purchased in August 1998 for £25,000 by Mike Whitaker and within the file is a valuation report (4/09/2000 £29,000) in which Mr Whitaker states “I’ve spent £10,000 on a full mechanical (engine/gearbox) rebuild and reconditioned brakes”. On 5/11/2000, Jeremy Taylor became the proud new owner and applied his cherished registration, 53 JT.Our vendor acquired #20521 in 2017 (now registered VOP 418S again) and, aware how rare the 308GTB Vetoresina had become, commenced a total restoration effectively transforming the 308 from a rather tired example into what is, conceivably, the best right-hand drive example in the world. It would be wrong to try and paraphrase the detail of this restoration but suffice to say that the volumes of detailed invoices from Specialised Automotive Services of Clitheroe alone total £104,053. On the assumption that anyone interested in acquiring this world-class Ferrari will spend some time viewing it, an extra hour with the restoration file would be encouraging. There is a fairly recent (1/06/2018) invoice from JCT600 for £699 that details an annual service with fresh fluids and a ‘Health Check’ at 25,172 miles. The current indicated mileage is 25,175, however, bear in mind that the speedo head was changed at 62,000 miles meaning that the car has covered approximately 87,000 miles, completely academic given the restoration.Supplied with the car is a packed history file with V5s, lots of old MOTs and Tax discs, copies of the Ferrari News, Classic Car Magazine from November 1997 featuring the car, reams of invoices from every era, race results, factory correspondence, a brand new Service Schedule/records handbook and best of all, a seriously impressive, A3 landscape, hardback, glossy photo-book displaying the restoration of #20521.It’s simply not professional to say that this is the best Vetroresina in the world but, if it’s not, we would certainly like to see a better one. One of just 113 UK supplied cars – The original GT3RS and highly coveted for good reasons.UK supplied (C-16), right-hand drive 911 (996) GT3RS indicating just 31,836 milesPowered by the 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, officially producing 375bhp, but in reality likely north of 390bhp, coupled to a slick six-speed manual transmissionSignificant weight saving over the GT3 offers 280bhp per tonFactory finished in Carrera White with classic red detailingPorsche confirmed original specification including; Clubsport interior with red harnesses, A/C, front cage and extinguisherSuperb overall condition supported by a comprehensive history file including original service book and spare keyPorsche introduced the Porsche 911 GT3RS in 2003 as an even more track-focused version of the 996 GT3 with the ‘RS’ moniker, characteristic lightweight blue or red wheels and ‘GT3 RS’ decals all evocative of historically important Porsches such as the Carrera 2.7RS of the early 1970s. The RS is lighter than its GT3 sibling, due to the use of a polycarbonate rear window and a carbon fibre bonnet and rear wing and has a slightly different engine specification to the 996 GT3, with the cylinder heads having reshaped intake and exhaust ports to comply with motorsport ‘homologation’ regulations. The wheel carriers are totally redesigned to maximize the improved dynamic camber control, the suspension top mounts can be turned 120 degrees to a "Cup Car" position and both front and rear control arms are adjustable. During the 996 GT3 RS production run from 2003 to 2005, Porsche built only 140 right-hand drive cars and 113 of those were officially imported into to the UK.This C-16, UK-supplied, right-hand drive 996 GT3 RS is finished in Carrera White with red decals and detailing and presents in superb condition throughout. The car has the usual GT3 RS specification and benefits from options including a Black Clubsport interior with red harnesses, a factory-fitted half cage, air-conditioning, ‘Lightronic’ lights, centre console, top-tint screen, CDR23 CD player and a fire extinguisher. Most recently, this RS had been subject to a major service at an independent Porsche specialist with a new battery and A/C re-gas at 31,772 miles and the invoice for this is in the detailed history file along with the original service book/service history supporting the indicated mileage of 31,836.Our vendor, a knowledgeable private collector purchased this example at 29,247 miles and sensibly commissioned a thorough independent inspection report (on file) that summarises this example as; a good honest RS with no evidence of hard track use or serious accident history. No doubt a genuine RS that has not been altered from factory specification in any way. Since purchase eight years ago, this special RS has covered less than 2,000 light miles and always been correctly dry stored.Today, the 996 GT3RS is finally starting to find its feet in the collector car market, rightly regarded as a precious low volume ‘homologation’ special that offers a raw and exciting driving experience. With a total production of just 682 and a mere 140 in right-hand drive, you can rest assured that when the petrol engine is no longer in production, these special RS Porsche will be a must-have in all significant collections. One can only speculate what could happen to values with high demand and low availability.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 -996Year: 2004Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ99Z4S691041Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 63426588 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 31836 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
A stunning, low mileage, 997 Turbo with a manual gearbox and impressive options list.Spectacular in Guards Red paintwork with a black leather interior and heated sports seatsImpressive specification including, sport-chrono plus, park assist, sun roof and short-shift gearchangeLow mileage supported by a full Porsche main dealer service history, most recent visit at 17,445 milesAccompanied by a history file including its original Porsche book pack, original service book and paper invoices, current MOT and V5cN.B. The registration number illustrated in the attached photographs does not form part of the saleThe Porsche 911 needs little in the way of introduction and the signature model of the road car line-up has, since 1975, always been the Turbo. When it first appeared, the 911 Turbo was something to be feared and drivers clung on to this fearsome thing, its 258bhp making it one of the quickest production cars on sale. Each successive generation saw the 911 Turbo become more powerful and better resolved. By the time the water-cooled 996 generation car appeared in 1999, the Turbo had become genuinely civilised; rocket-ship fast but civilised nonetheless. The 997 generation 911 was an evolution of the 996 with many changes designed to improve quality whilst retaining that car's winning blend of performance and usability.Although the 911(997) Carrera models appeared in 2004, it wasn't until 2006 that the Turbo version was finally launched. First shown at that year's Geneva Show, it was initially offered as a Coupe (and later as a cabriolet) with an impressive specification. The Mezger 3.6-litre engine was continued, now producing 480bhp at 6,000 rpm and featuring VarioCam Plus and a pair of clever Borg-Warner variable geometry turbochargers, a totally new technology for Porsche. With a manual gearbox, the 997 Turbo requires just 3.9 seconds to reach 62mph and will go on to 193mph. Power is transmitted to all four wheels with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) which utilises an electronically controlled, multi-plate clutch. This intelligent technology provides variable drive to each axle. The front/rear split is continuously adjusted based on current road conditions and driver inputs. Although biased towards the rear, the front receives more power whenever the situation requires. The car presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 2008 Porsche 911(997) Turbo Generation I which, importantly, means it utilises the well-proven and legendary Mezger race-derived engine, which has a bulletproof reputation. Finished in Guards Red with black leather interior this Turbo had been specified with a very impressive options list including; colour coded red seatbelts, centre console and red tail lamps. Further options ticked included heated sports seats, park assist, sunshine-roof, sport-chrono plus, short-shift gear selector, top-tint screen and some ‘aluminium look’ interior furniture.Accompanying this example is a comprehensive history file including the original Porsche book-pack with the original service book stamped up-to-date. The service history is full Porsche main agent with the most recent visit at 17,445 miles. The private plate shown in some of our marketing will be retained by the current owner and the car will be offered on its original number NA08 VWC.Having covered just 18,598, miles this stunning Turbo presents extremely well. Clearly cared for over the years, the exterior paintwork retains a deep gloss and the interior show very little wear. Overall the condition of this Turbo is excellent and for piece of mind the most recent service is also accompanied by a Porsche Health Check available for inspection on request. On test the car fired up on the button and performed without fault. In summary, this is a great opportunity to own a modern classic 911 Turbo in a fabulous colour combination with the desirable manual gearbox, impressive options list and low mileage supported by a full Porsche service history. A lovely example of the 997 GT3, a thoroughbred 911 that totally encapsulates the Porsche driving experience.UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 997.1, 3.6-litre GT3 indicating just 16,400 miles from newIn Basalt Black Metallic with a black interior and black carpets all presenting in superb orderFull Porsche service history, most recent service at 13,989 miles with full inspection on file. Offered with fresh MOTAccompanied by a detailed history file including its original service book stamped and supported by paper invoicesRapidly becoming highly collectable and rightfully so as a fast, exciting and great-looking GT with 415bhpN.B. The registration number illustrated in the attached photographs does not form part of the saleIn February 2006, Porsche revealed the first generation 997 GT3 which, in addition to a new 415bhp, 3.6-litre, flat-six engine featured ‘zero-lift’ aerodynamics, meaning the car creates only aerodynamic downforce and no grip-diminishing ‘lift’. The new model made use of a modified, race-developed version of Porsche's active suspension making it the first of Porsche's RS or GT3 versions to feature an electronically adjustable suspension system. The six-speed manual transmission was also adapted to the new GT3 engine's extended power band with better-matched gear ratios and consequently, performance was impressive with a 0-62 mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 193 miles per hour (311 km/h). The GT3 returned to the styling of the original, with a sculpted flowing rear spoiler rather than the flat-slab RS variety.Offered here is a C-16, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Porsche 911(997) GT3 specified in Basalt Black Metallic with a black interior and black carpets. Supplied new by Porsche Centre Cardiff and first registered on 10 January 2007, to date this lovely GT3 has covered only 16,400 miles supported by MOTs and a detailed service history with all maintenance carried out by Porsche main agents. The most recent entry into the service book was a regular two-year inspection by Porsche Centre Tonbridge at 13,989 miles, supported by paper invoices in the history file. The condition of this GT3 is excellent and Porsche inspection reports within the history file leave little doubt that this is a good, straight original example. The black paintwork retains a deep gloss and is even across the car, the high-quality interior shows little signs of wear if any as you might expect with such low mileage.Accompanying this example is the aforementioned history file which contains old MOTs, inspection reports, old warranty paperwork, details of the Vehicle Tracking System fitted and the original service book stamped up-to-date. Also included is a Porsche battery conditioner, spare key and a fitted indoor car cover. The first generation 997 GT3 is rightfully becoming increasingly sought after by both enthusiasts and collectors. Aesthetically pleasing with good presence, a beautifully finished cabin in high-quality Alcantara and fitted with a spectacular 415bhp 3.6-litre engine. One of just seven examples of this rare Turbo Cabriolet with the 5-speed box and only 33,168 miles. One of only fifty genuine factory-produced 930 SE low-build cars.Built by the Special Wishes Department, the ‘Flachbau’ cars were essentially normal 930 Turbos with the dramatic, 935-style, sloping front endEquipped with an uprated engine of 330bhp (from 300), Dual-Exit exhaust and a limited-slip differentialUpgraded interior featuring a unique centre console, heated front seats, steering wheel and gear lever knob with a gold insertStunning colour combination of White Pearl with a matching leather interior33,168 miles corroborated by 16 service stampsExpenditure of over £45,000 in 2017One of only 7 C-16 UK cars built in 1989, this really is the Holy GrailAnyone who followed the ‘World Championship of Makes’ (essentially an International championship for long-distance Sports Car racing), will remember their surprise at the shape of the new Porsche 935 when it first appeared at Mugello in March 1976. Subsequently, these ‘Flatnose’ 935s and 936s (in Group 6) were to prove very competitive in the hands of Ickx, Mass and Stommelen and during the next two seasons managed four victories in eight World Championship races and a triumph at Le Mans in each year. However, Porsche began to worry that all these victories by the works Flatnose cars might alienate the vast number of private clients who were investing their own money in conventionally-shaped competition 911s, and decided to restrict their efforts for 1978 to an entry at Le Mans. The distinctive look of the "Flachbau" (literally translated as Low Build) obviously retained its appeal in the minds of their road car customers and, from 1981 until early 1989, Porsche 930 Turbo buyers could specify their car in this style to special order. Just 50 ‘C16’ cars were manufactured for the UK-market, initially equipped with an uprated engine of 330bhp (from 300) mated to a 4-speed transmission. However, at the end of 1988, the uprated 5-Speed G50 gearbox was introduced, dramatically easing the peaks in power delivery by reducing the effects of 'turbo-lag'. The factory SE also benefited from a dual-exit exhaust system, limited-slip differential, heated front seats and a sunroof. This example is a genuine, factory-produced, C-16, Porsche 930 Turbo SE G50 Cabriolet built in 1989 under the ‘Sonderwunchprogramm' (Special Wishes Programme). It’s superbly finished in White Pearl with a matching leather interior and has covered just 33,168 miles in the hands of three private owners prior to spending time in two of the highest-profile exclusive collections in the UK since 2014.It’s supplied with an extensive history file detailing expenditure of over £45,000 lavished on this stunning Porsche during 2017 to ensure that it presents today in the best possible condition for an enthusiast or collector alike. The history file also contains all its previous MOTs and the service book displays sixteen service stamps helping to corroborate the indicated mileage. With only seven C-16 examples of this specific model produced in 1989, this really is the 'Holy Grail' when considering a 930 and we would welcome any inspection of this rather special Porsche.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 TURBO SE FLATNOSE CABRIOLETYear: 1989Chassis Number: WPOZZZ93ZKSO20243Transmission: manualEngine Number: 67K00949Odometer Reading: 33168 Make: Interior Colour: WHITE LEATHERClick here for more details and images
UK-supplied, 5-speed 911 Turbo Cabriolet - ready for the Spring!UK-supplied and right hand driveG50 5-speed gearboxPrivate vendor who has owned the car for seven yearsSignificant recent work and expenditureVery rare but totally useableContinuous history supporting the mileage of 57,888First introduced in 1975, the 930 Turbo version of the amazing Porsche 911 evolved every few years to maintain its position as one of the fastest and most desirable sports cars of its time. By 1989, the final versions were offering 330bhp, which when coupled with the new G50 5-speed gearbox, propelled the car up to a top speed of 162mph and a 0-60 was covered in just 4.9 seconds. Porsche enthusiasts often consider the 930 of 1989 to be the ultimate incarnation, as it was the only year that this model was fitted with the 5-speed G50 gearbox which offered ratios better suited to the Turbo's power delivery, and 1989 was the last year of production of the iconic which makes it just that bit 'special' .This particular, privately owned, car was acquired by our vendor in 2013 since which time it has covered just 2,200 miles. The total mileage of 57,888 is confirmed and backed up by previous MOT Certificates in the comprehensive history file which accompanies the car.It was supplied new as a UK C16 car through Maltin Porsche of Henley on Thames on the first of August 1989 to a Mr John Glashan from Liverpool, but was then registered to a Mr John Rix of Bridgend very shortly afterwards. The original maintenance/service book is very well stamped throughout and reflects a full service history with main dealers and recognised specialist dealers. In addition to the full original book pack there are many invoices on file, one of which confirms an engine rebuild with new Porsche original pistons and liners in 2004 at 43,000 miles, costing £7,568 at the time.More recently the car has returned from MLR Independent Porsche Specialists where work has included stripping out the interior and fitting new carpets as well as retrimming the interior. Additionally, the roof has also been replaced, fitted with new motors and realigned and at the same time the engine was removed for a service and various seals and gaskets replaced. The total expenditure in 2021 on these various items adds up to over £4,500 and the detailed invoices are on file.Available now - with a fresh MOT and all outstanding work completed - and at an attractive guide, this is a great car with which to enjoy the forthcoming Spring and Summer weather as we emerge from lock-down and start to enjoy using our classics once again with a guaranteed smile-a-mile in this final evolution of the legendary 930 Turbo. In 1986 Porsche launched its very first one-make series, the Turbo Cup.One of only 40, 944 Cup cars built in 1986 and originally supplied to Porsche OrlandoRaced in SCCA events in 1986, then stored until 2019 prior to being imported to the UK. Lightly used since and currently showing 14,615 milesSubject to a thorough mechanical recommission by The Body Werkes in October 2020. Invoice on fileSupplied with two keys, driver’s manual, history file, MOT and UK registrationWe welcome inspection of this very rare, exciting and desirable road-legal Porsche racerIn 1986 Porsche launched its very first one-make series, the Turbo Cup. Privateers could purchase a Porsche 944 Turbo with option codes 220-LSD, 666–without body preservation, and 751–Motorsport preparation. The Cup cars were powered by the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine found in the road cars and the power and torque figures were broadly similar. It is estimated that there were some 250-300 Turbo Cups made between 1986 and 1999 to race in various series all over the world, however, only 40 were made in the first year 1986 and these cars unlike ‘87-88 cars were more road-friendly. Unlike the later cars, not all the changes are as well documented, however, the following are key identifiers of these cars.Magnesium intake manifold and sump, factory-fitted 8-point Matter bolt-in roll cage, 16 x 8 front and 16 x 9 rear Fuchs wheels (these were the only 944s to have these wheels fitted, later Cup cars had magnesium tele-dials), drivers-side Recaro Porsche racing seat with 4-point harness, and standard passenger-side bucket seat, no power steering, air-con, any electric mirrors, seats windows etc., no paint and body protection (option code 666), Turbo Cup chassis Europe (option code 751), and a 40% locking differential (option code 220).According to a letter from Porsche in the accompanying history file, this particular left-hand drive 944 was manufactured on the 25th February 1986 to USA-specification. It goes on to say that the car has the following equipment: Locking differential, without lacquer and chrome presentation, Motorsport vehicle ‘Type 951 USA’.Our vendor explains that this Cup Car was originally supplied to Porsche Orlando in 1986 and was never actually titled but raced in SCCA events throughout 1986. It was subsequently stored for many years until the current owner, a private UK collector, bought it and imported it to the UK in 2019. The odometer shows 14,615 miles which could well be correct given the amount of time this particular example has spent in storage.Upon arriving here, the 944 was sent for a thorough mechanical recommission by Steve Monk at ‘The Body Werkes’ in October 2020. There is an invoice on file showing the details, which includes new tyres, an MOT, and an engine service including cambelt, water pump etc. The car has covered just 800 miles in the UK and the most recent MOT was passed on 11/01/2021 at 14,592 miles.UK road registration was also successfully obtained, all of which means that this very rare car is ready for its next owner to join a very exclusive club of ‘86 944 Turbo Cup cars, whose flexibility and usability provides the option of being able to drive to the track, enjoy a dynamic drive around a circuit of choice, and drive home again.Supplied with two keys, the driver’s manual, the aforementioned history file, MOT and UK registration, we welcome inspection of this very rare, interesting and desirable road-legal Porsche racer. A super 993 Turbo looking particularly purposeful with factory Turbo S rear wings.UK-supplied, C-16, right-hand drive, 993 Turbo with an interesting specificationPresenting very well finished in Ocean Blue with Classic Grey leather interiorIndicating just over 86,000 miles supported by a large and detailed history fileRecent invoices include an engine rebuild with new turbo seals at a Porsche specialistSpecified with X79 ‘Turbo S’ rear wings, carbon gear lever, and carbon handbrakeHandsome, high-performance 911 Turbo, the end of the air-cooled era and highly collectableThe 993 Turbo, introduced in mid-1995, retained a tight hold on the torch of the most powerful 911 variant whilst continuing the general developments and improvements to the breed as a whole. Amongst the new features, was an electronically controlled, viscous coupling, all-wheel-drive system, something Porsche had not offered on a turbocharged model since the 959 and a system that greatly improved the car's usability. Under the engine lid, now topped with a sculpted spoiler tail with downturned edges, resided the 3.6-litre, flat-six fed by twin K16 turbos. Combined with bigger brakes, fatter tires, a wide body and a lower stance, the 993 Turbo had evolved into one of the fastest cars on the planet. With all four wheels helping to evenly distribute great handfuls of power, 0-60mph was dispatched in a staggering 3.7 seconds, 100mph whistled by in 5.7 seconds, and the linear forward thrust continued until the speedometer needle had said goodbye to 180mph and you were on conversational terms with the horizon.Offered here is a beautiful UK-supplied (C-16) 993 Turbo finished in Ocean Blue with Classic Grey leather interior, a colour combination that really suits the car. First registered on 5 January 1997 this example benefits from an interesting option list including ‘Turbo S’ body with side air vents on rear wings (X79), Carbon gear knob, carbon handbrake, leather-covered CD storage, electrically adjustable sports seats, top-tint screen and a sunshine roof. The speedometer indicated just 86,375 miles at the time of cataloguing and this mileage is supported by a detailed maintenance record.Forming part of our vendor’s landmark performance car collection for 11 years, this Turbo has always been dry stored and used when good weather permits. Clearly well maintained, within the history file is the original Porsche book-pack with original service book stamped up-to-date, most recently all fluids and filters at 86,375 miles, February 2021. The file also contains a wealth of invoices for recent attention including an engine rebuild with new cam-shafts, valve guides, piston-rings and turbo seals (£16,000+), current V5c, old MOTs, tracker documents and a current MOT valid until 4 February 2022.This is a great opportunity to acquire a car that is still considered blisteringly fast some two decades after its production ceased, yet is as docile and friendly as any 911 from the era. It's equally at home in the lanes of Somerset or blasting down the Autoroute to the Cote d'Azur but either way, as a super example of the last of the air-cooled Turbos, it will become increasingly sought after as the years go by.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 -993Year: 1997Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ99ZVS370435Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 86500 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: GreyClick here for more details and images
Simply lovely example of one of the rarest (1 of 100 worldwide in RHD) and most sought-after Porsches from the 1990s.The 944 Turbo Cabriolet combined the Turbo S' 250bhp engine with the strengthened cabriolet body built by ASC at WeinsbergOnly 625 were built, with just 100 examples produced in right-hand drive for the UK, Japanese, Australian and South African marketsFinished in striking Cobalt Blue Metallic with matching interior and hoodExcellent maintenance history, recent £4,000-plus worth of work done at Porsche specialists ‘Autofarm’Letter from the original owner stating that they used AFN Reading for servicing and passed the car on to their sonFollowing the international success of their nimble 924, Porsche designed an all-alloy, 2.5-litre, inline-four for their new 944 which they planned to introduce in 1982. Their talented engineers were able to produce a very smooth running four-cylinder engine by utilising two counter-rotating balance shafts running at twice engine speed. These carry eccentric weights which produce inertial forces that balance out the unbalanced secondary forces, all a bit technical but the result is a large four-cylinder engine that feels as turbine-smooth as a six. Cosmetically, the 944's bodywork was revised with wider wheel arches (similar to that of the 924 Carrera GT), a fresh interior and upgrades to the brakes and suspension. With greater visual presence and the performance to match, better handling, stopping power and more creature comforts, the 944 was a natural step forward. A 'turbo' version of the 944 was always on the cards, and the forced-induction boosted the 2.5-litre engine by a healthy 60bhp, necessitating an upgraded clutch and gearbox. The chassis was further developed and thicker anti-roll bars and four-pot brake calipers were fitted to deal with the significantly increased performance. Externally, a smoother nose panel and a larger rear spoiler distinguished it from its lesser siblings. In February 1991, the final year of 944 production, Porsche released the 944 Turbo Cabriolet which combined the Turbo S' 250bhp engine with the strengthened cabriolet body built by the ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg. Compared to the Coupe, the Cabriolet's windscreen is lowered about 6cm and raked back to reduce the wind noise when the top is down. Porsche initially announced that 600 would be made, but ultimately 625 were built, with just 100 examples produced in right-hand drive for the UK, Japanese, Australian and South African markets. These are rare cars, produced for just one year, with only 32 examples believed to still reside in the UK.The car presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet finished in Cobalt Blue Metallic with matching interior, a combination a 944 from the nineties pulls off with aplomb! It has covered just 78,000 miles (approx.) and remains in very good condition. In the early days it was regularly maintained at, amongst others, Porsche AFN of Reading, Porsche specialists ‘RSR Engineering’ of Hampshire and later ‘Northway Porsche Ltd.’ of Berkshire. In August 2020, our vendor entrusted it to renowned Porsche specialists ‘Autofarm’ of Oxfordshire, where a full inspection and follow-up work was carried out.The car is supplied with an original driver’s manual, numerous invoices for regular maintenance (including cam-belt replacements), and older MOT Certificates, which help corroborate the indicated mileage. Now being sold from part of an enthusiast's collection, we are informed the car has recently benefited from a full service (including cam-belt) in 2020. Bought by our vendor from a Porsche specialist, unfortunately, a change in circumstances now means he must sell the car. This fabulous, open-top, Porsche has obviously been well-maintained and presents, both mechanically and cosmetically, really well. This is a simply lovely example of one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsches from the 1990s. The 944, the 968 and even the 928 are seeing their values rise in the wake of the '911 explosion' and front-engined Porsches are having the Renaissance they richly deserve. Possibly the best 924 S ‘Le Mans’ Edition available anywhere; ‘Porsche Restored’.1 of 37 RHD UK-market cars in Alpine White; effectively ‘Club Sport’ editions aimed at enthusiasts to celebrate the culmination of the 924-production runUtilises the 165bhp M44 2.5-litre engine and M030 Sports suspension‘Porsche Restored’ in 2016; bare-metal renewal and mechanically refurbishedExtensive history file, original service booklet and book packRare and desirable transaxle modelThe Porsche 924 S ‘Le Mans’ edition of 1988 (not to be confused with the earlier 1980 version, which had just cosmetic additions) is a very special and rare model of Porsche’s ‘junior’ transaxle sports car, built to celebrate Porsche's 12th outright win at Le Mans.Coined the 924S SE in the US and ‘Le Mans’ for other markets, these were effectively ‘Club Sport’ editions aimed at real Porsche enthusiasts to celebrate the culmination of the 924-production run. Fittingly, arguably the best 924 model, the 924S, was the version on which the Le Mans limited-edition model was based; importantly, Porsche utilised the more powerful and smooth 165bhp 2.5-litre M44 alloy inline-four engine from the ‘big brother’ 944.The Le Mans edition, as a final 924S ‘run-out’ model, in RHD for the UK-market totalled just 74 examples (37 in Alpine White and 37 in Black paintwork) with ‘Le Mans’ logos and stripes on their flanks. Officially known at Porsche as the ‘Sportliches Sondermodell’ (loosely translated as Sporting Special Model) their options package code in the UK is M755. The 74 UK-market M755 cars came with the 165bhp engine (the ‘proper’ full power 944 engine) married to a 5-speed gearbox, plus an electric tilt/removable sunroof fitted as standard. Also specified with M030 sport suspension, which has stiffer springs and lowered the standard car by 10mm, uprated anti-roll bars, ‘Teledial’ cast alloy wheels (6J x 15s at the front and 7J x 15s at the rear) which feature special colour detailing, colour-coded side protection strips and rear mud guards. Inside, all the cars featured cloth-upholstered ‘Turbo’ sports seats, with the cloth door panels also colour-coded, plus a 360mm sport steering wheel. The Alpine White cars came with Black Leatherette interior finish, Ochre Flannel seats and black carpet.Unsurprisingly, Porsche guru Peter Morgan’s 924 buyers’ guide says that the limited edition ‘Le Mans’ car is “the 924 S to have.”The car presented here is a C16/M755 1988 Porsche 924 S ‘Le Mans’ in Alpine White (P1P1), and is one of those 37 rarefied examples. Not only this, but it has also been the subject of a Porsche AG restoration.Porsche GB runs an annual, national Classic Restoration Competition open to its Official Centres and their esteemed automotive partners. Porsche Centre Swindon entered the 2016 competition celebrating 40 years of front-engined cars and chose this car. Sourcing the right car was obviously important, and this 924 S Le Mans came with an impeccable history (its original Porsche service booklet shows 18 service stamps, many of which with Porsche Centres, right back to its supplying dealership, Lancaster Porsche Colchester), including many invoices, old MOT Certificates and just two previous owners.Like any car that is almost 30 years old, when Porsche Swindon fully examined this 924, it was obvious there were some areas in need of a thorough renewal. The car was completed stripped back to the bare shell, where the inner and outer sills were professionally restored and the whole structure meticulously readied for a full repaint (specialist technician Stefan Walecki carried out this work). Likewise, the running gear was fully refurbished, wherever possible trying to retain original parts. Some suspension and brake components had to be replaced, new brake and fuel lines installed, plus new bushes and new Pirelli tyres fitted. The interior was all cleaned and ready for refitting and a repair made to the dashboard (a new dashboard was not available, even to Porsche!). The engine had a new cam, balance belts with associated tension rollers and pulleys fitted. A complete rebuild was followed by a comprehensive renewal service. The team used all their in-house mechanical know-how and outsourced other work to numerous approved partners, including the bodywork to 'Dick Lovett Spraymaster', who, together with Porsche, invested hundreds of hours of highly skilled time into the car, fitting hundreds of new parts. This painstakingly restored 924 S Le Mans is the result, and it was featured in special commemorative brochure produced by Porsche Swindon showing all the work they carried out. It is also accompanied by all its previous history, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The car was purchased by our vendor, a real marque enthusiast, from Porsche Centre Swindon in June 2020 and he has fully enjoyed the car as part of his carefully chosen collection, but sadly must now part ways with it.This is now a remarkable car, all mechanically renewed and finished by its maker - a real one-off and not to be missed!(N.B. the registration number of E6 RPR will not come with the car, it will revert to WDZ 2662) SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 924 S LE MANSYear: 1988Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ92ZJN400443Engine Number: 46J01619 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 122543 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey cloth Click here for more details and images
Possibly the best restored S2 JPS Esprit on offer today. When first seen in concept form at the Turin Show in 1972, Giorgio Giugiaro's dart-shaped outline was breathtakingly modernNumber 22/100 World Championship Commemorative Models built for the UKRestored to exacting standards over the past three yearsComprehensive history file including a Lotus Certificate of ProvenanceA well-known car, Top Gear and Magazine featuredSuper rare opportunity to acquire an instantly recognizable, limited edition Esprit that is one of the best we have seenThe first, and arguably the most memorable, of the early Esprit limited-editions was officially dubbed the World Championship Commemorative Model, but is better known to enthusiasts as the John Player Special (JPS), as its distinctive Black and Gold livery was inspired by the ground effect, JPS-sponsored, championship-winning Lotus 79 cars of the period, as raced by Mario Andretti and Ronnie Petersen. It was originally planned to build 200 but in the end, it was believed that 185 were produced, 100 for the UK, 55 for the United States and 30 for Europe. The eye-catching specification included, Gold-coloured side stripes complete with “World Champion” lettering, Gold-coloured front and rear windscreen surrounds and alloy wheels, Gold-effect Corduroy seat inserts and a three-spoke leather rimmed steering wheel instead of the plastic offering. The “Juke Box” installed was a Hitachi Digi-One radio-cassette. The 1973cc, 16-valve DOHC engine delivered a feisty 160bhp which was sufficient to sprint the 1,980lb glassfibre-bodied, two-seater to 60mph in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 124 mph. Production ran from December 1978 till July 1979.DLH 393T was built on the 21st of December 1978 and supplied to Chipstead of Hampton Court, prior to being registered on the 20th of January 1979 and delivered to its first owner, Waverley Textiles Ltd.This immaculate Lotus Esprit was badged “Number 22”, however, we understand from the Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance that it was actually the 12th car manufactured, all detailed in the cars fascinating history file. The present custodian has cossetted this Esprit since 2017 and has lavished thousands on bringing the car back to a ‘Best of Breed’ standard. He had the bodywork stripped back to the gelcoat and freshly painted with a set of the original stripes and the alloy wheels refurbished to the exact Gold colouring of the original issue. S J Sports Cars of Crediton near Exeter have maintained this car since 2017 and within the history file, there are invoices to the tune of some £25,000 the most recent of which details a complete engine re-build, refurbished carburettors and a myriad of mechanical components along with a separate invoice for £3,000 relating to a whole host of trim parts to complete the re-build. This S2 has worn a few different number plates throughout the years, however, the current owner did successfully manage to obtain the original registration number which the Lotus now sports again.Number 22 is quite a well-known car as, in addition to enjoying some fame on a pre-Clarkson ‘Top Gear’, and appearing in a YouTube clip (wearing its GJI reg) it was celebrated in an impressive 9-page feature in the January 2019 issue of Classic Cars, a copy of which resides in the history file. The original tool wallet, jack and brace, correct spare wheel, and genuine full Lotus workshop manual are all where they should be and complete a very special package. Incredible condition, a fabulous colour and celebrity provenance – a very special Series 1.Formerly registered to highly respected car collector and enthusiast Nick Mason, CBE of Pink FloydCurrent seller asked Lanzante to fully restore the car to be the best Elise available anywhere£15k plus was spent on the restoration. Superbly finished in Gunmetal Grey. The front light mould is from a 1997 Elise GT1 Le Mans clam shell (original with the car) Factory hardtop, Lotus Sport Koni dampers, adjustable roll bar and its original (MMC) brake discs Showing just over 27,000 miles. Fresh MOT valid until 23/02/2022Fabulous paint, incredible condition and celebrity provenance – a very special little LotusPurity is a fragile and vulnerable thing and in August 1996, the revolutionary new Lotus Elise seemed to ooze purity from every extruded anodised aluminium and epoxy resin crevice, with nothing superfluous subtracting from the essence of this truly minimalist, focused little sports car. Although 'beautiful to behold' it certainly was, the time-honoured relationship between 'form and function' was clearly evident in the way it went and handled with its lightweight chassis-tub at 731kg failing to daunt the enthusiasm of the mid-mounted, 1.8-litre K-series engine, and its 118bhp was enough for a 0-60mph time in the low sixes allied to decent torque in the higher ratios. Clothed in two-piece 'clamshell' fibreglass bodywork, the featherweight two-door also featured all round double-wishbone, independent coil-over suspension, rack and pinion steering, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and a five-speed gearbox. Designer Julian Thomson and engineer Richard Rackham were keen to create a car with something of a motorcycle’s feel, and they undoubtedly succeeded, as is evident as much in the aluminium-and-rubber interior and neat little Stack instrument panel, as in the car's dynamic intimacy with the road, the wind, and the weather. The Elise was a reaction to the corpulent world of leather, luxury, and levers becoming increasingly evident in Lotus road cars, and was an attempt to recreate Colin Chapman’s early principles before he abandoned them in a move upmarket. The early cars were followed in 2002 by the Series 2 but the simpler, more demure Series 1 still defines the breed. Pretty as these early cars are, our vendor decided to go a little bit further in order for this car to look just as he wanted. Having acquired the Lotus from Nick Mason's family, he decided later on to get marque specialists, Lanzante, to fully restore the Elise to his exacting standards with some subtle modifications. The seller informs us that in excess of £15,000 was spent on ensuring this particular Elise is one of the very best examples available to buy anywhere. Originally yellow, it has now been superbly finished in an amazing shade of Gunmetal Grey and this particular hue takes the car to another dimension. The front light mould is from a 1997 Elise GT1 Le Mans clam shell and it's worth mentioning that the car is fitted with a factory hardtop, Lotus Sport Koni dampers, an adjustable roll bar and still retains its original composite (MMC) brake discs. This little Lotus really needs to be seen to be believed so we encourage people to book a virtual viewing or to send a specialist to inspect on their behalf as soon as possible. Showing just over 27,000 miles and with a fresh MOT valid until 23rd February 2022, this amazing bespoke Elise has had more money spent on it recently than today's guide price, and combined with celebrity 'petrol-head' provenance, it represents a very attractive opportunity. Specialist SS Motors have looked after the car past few years (July 2020 last visit)Would make an ideal classic car proposition and looks wonderful in any environment. The second generation of Mercedes’ SL-Series, the W113, began with the 230 of 1963. Designed by Paul Bracq and sketched by Freiderich Geiger, it offered elegant simplicity within its compact proportions, the wide track and short wheelbase, with big steel wheels filling the arches, suggesting comfort rather than performance. The wonderfully crisp styling clothed a monocoque chassis equipped with all-round independent suspension, power-assisted disc/drum brakes, recirculating ball steering and a 2306cc straight-six engine of 150bhp and 145 lb-ft of torque mated to either a four-speed manual or automatic transmission. The car was an international hit for Mercedes-Benz throughout the 1960s and has retained lasting appeal with enthusiasts, celebrities, musicians, retired Grand Prix drivers and enthusiasts alike.According to an official copy of the Mercedes-Benz data card, this early, manual gearbox, right-hand drive 230SL was ordered in 1963 and first registered in the UK on 7th April 1964. The factory specification details an exterior colour of White Grey with a medium red interior and it was ordered with a factory hardtop and optional paint protection. In 2017, ‘DBV 102B’ enjoyed a comprehensive body and trim restoration, all finished to a very high standard. The exterior was repainted in a slightly darker shade of metallic grey with a stunning red leather interior, which was beautifully re-trimmed. Indeed, there are numerous invoices on file detailing the work including some from the ‘SL Shop’ acknowledged marque specialists.Purchased by its current private owner in 2017, through Silverstone Auctions, this simply lovely early ‘Pagoda’ is now being offered to the market. One for the driving enthusiastBuilt alongside and sharing many of the iconic styling features of the legendary 300SL Roadster, the Mercedes 190SL combined superb build quality with understated styling and a not insignificant, 104 bhp from the 1.9-litre four-stroke engine. An instant hit, the three-pronged star sparkled amidst the gloom of post-war austerity. The 1955 launch of the 190SL, cemented Mercedes-Benz's reputation as the car manufacturer for those who wanted elegance, build quality and a decent turn of speed. Its hugely successful production ran to 25,881 cars from 1955 until 1963, mainly in left-hand drive form, with most going to the North American market. This, left-hand drive Mercedes 190 SL, is quite simply one of the very best 190 SLs we've ever seen and is presented in Graphite Silver with the original Bamboo MB-Tex Vinyl interior. The present owner has owned the car, known to the family as 'Grace', for just under four years, having purchased it shortly after it was imported from California. Since then, the car has undergone an extensive restoration by the vendor himself, including a colour change from the original cream to a really stylish shade of graphite silver, whilst retaining the original tan interior, the combination of which works exceptionally well in our opinion. Painstakingly modelled on a state-of-the-art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Even today, stood alongside its successors, it’s the 2004/5 SL500 that’s the most fluent and striking design. With its balletic folding panoramic glass roof, award-winning cockpit, Active Body Control and turbine-smooth V8, it’s no wonder that it was a great success. However, they were produced in commercial numbers, and there are always enthusiasts who would like something a little more exclusive and that market was catered for by Mercedes’ Performance Division, AMG, who in 2003 introduced their SL55AMG. Seriously powerful and impressively fast, the supercharged 5.4-litre V8 was rated at 493bhp and the AMG was fitted with larger wheels, bigger brakes, uprated electronics and some subtle cosmetic changes. The SL55AMG was expensive, exclusive and rather special but, as always, they were one or two customers for whom it wasn’t special enough and, for those discerning individuals, the Holy Grail was the Brabus K8.BRABUS GmbH is a German high-performance automotive aftermarket tuning company founded in 1977 in Bottrop. Their ‘K8’ was launched at the Geneva Salon and marketed as a ‘performance kit’ but in truth it’s considerably more than that. The engine modifications require that each Brabus dealer has a dedicated engine builder and similarly the suspension, electronic and cosmetic changes all require experienced specialists, hardly a ‘kit’. The engine modifications were primarily to the supercharger drive with a custom vibration damper and a new pulley for improved belt-drive geometry, high-performance metal catalysts, and an auxiliary circulation pump with opposing radiator. This raised output to a minimum of 530bhp and a tree stump-pulling torque of 572 lbs.ft, however, in this case we understand it might be nearer 550bhp. When he was fully happy, the engine builder signed a small gold plaque and attached it to the top of the engine.Brabus also tweak the car's aerodynamics to enhance high speed stability with a new front spoiler, while a more prominent diffuser works the air harder at the back to increase downforce. Underneath, the car's active body control suspension was recalibrated using an electronic module for the ABC, lowering ride height by 15mm, and the braking system was uprated by the Brabus engineers. Whilst the additional 40 odd bhp produce a small increase in performance, we understand that it’s the K8’s amazing handling that takes the SL55 to another level. The redesigned side skirts create an aerodynamic transition between the wheel arches and feature automatic illumination of the ground whenever the door is opened and the new rear apron incorporates a subtly altered diffuser. Externally, these modifications are not immediately noticeable which cannot be said about the striking polished 20” Brabus ‘Monoblock’ wheelsOn offer here we have an original UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Brabus K8. Their best engine builder worked on the car and it could well be producing in excess of 550bhp”.In addition to the car’s remarkable standard specification, the interior options included stainless steel door sills with an illuminated Brabus logo, an ergonomically-shaped sports steering wheel with airbag and genuine carbon trim and Dynamic seats that are cooled/heated, pulse massaging and wrapped in supple Charcoal AMG leather. The rarest and most collectable 695 Biposto model; just 283 miles from new.Considered the ‘Unicorn’ of modern Abarth Biposto models, this is Number 11 of just 99 examples worldwideNot to be mistaken for the regular Ferrari Tributo of 2011, the Rosso Officine models were special Ferrari dealership ‘Service Car’ editions from 2015Based on the 190bhp Biposto Abarth, these flagship models came with a strict ‘Not to be sold’ clause for 6 months and were only available in Ferrari Rosso OfficinaJust 283 miles from new, Abarth service history, simply immaculate and collector-qualityBilled quite simply as ‘The Smallest Supercar’, Abarth’s 695 Biposto certainly lives up to its gently boastful soubriquet being the fastest road-going model the company has yet produced. The brief Abarth S.p.A. set themselves was a simple one: screw a numberplate to the one-make race-series 695 Assetto Corse track car and provide a burgeoning customer base, with – as Carlo Abarth himself put it – ‘Sunday on the track and Monday in the office.’Abarth focused on the two key goals of weight reduction and engine performance. Out went the rear seats, air-conditioning, audio system, door cards, posh headlamps, fog lights et al. In came a Poggipolini tubular titanium roll-cage, cargo nets, 695 Biposto-specific Sabelt seats, Brembo brakes, 18in OZ alloys with bespoke 215/35 Goodyears, Extreme Shox adjustable shock absorbers, an Akrapovic exhaust system, a wider track and a 1.4-litre turbo powerplant lifted pretty much piecemeal from a Formula 4 single-seater.The Garrett turbocharged 1368cc unit spits out a feisty 187bhp at 5500rpm (the company claiming a 139hp-per-litre ‘record for this category’) and 184lb ft of torque at 3000rpm, dropping 0-62mph acceleration one tenth below the targeted 6.0 second mark and offering a top speed of 143 mph.The car presented here is a 2016 Abarth 695 Biposto ‘Rosso Officine’, Chassis Number 11 of 99, and is not to be mistaken for the regular Ferrari Tributo of 2011, the Rosso Officine models being special Ferrari dealership ‘Service Car’ editions of 2015. Based on the 190bhp Biposto Abarth, these flag-ship models came with a strict ‘not to be sold’ clause for 6 months and were only available in Rosso Red paintwork. This car was supplied new via Graypaul Fiat/Ferrari of Nottingham and is today still accompanied by two keys, complete owners book-pack, Authenticity Certificate, full unused bodywork sticker-kit, and its Abarth emergency/breakdown pack.Considered the rarest and most covetable of the Biposto range, this car is in ‘as new’ condition, having covered a minuscule 283 miles from new. With its sticker-kit of stripes not applied (but supplied with it) this really is a mini-Ferrari and ripe for any Italian car enthusiast or collector. A very hard to find model as most are sitting amongst Ferrari collections. From howmanymade.co.uk website: “It is known 10 Rosso Officine examples were available in Japan, possibly 30 examples went to Italy, possibly 10 examples to Germany and possibly 8 examples to Switzerland. Just 2 examples were sold and delivered to Australia. Car #1 was an Italian car, now living in Manila, Philippines. And #99 is a UK car.”When they were deemed ready for sale, Rosso Officine models sold for around £45,000 in the UK, marking them out as the pinnacle of Bipostos. With an attractive guide price and from a private car collection, where it was serviced (Abarth) and stored to the highest standards, this is a very desirable mini-exotic. A desirable naughties hot hatch.Hand built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in SwedenOne of just 223 Iceberg Silver, right-hand drive, UK-market cars producedSubtle enhancements such as a Janspeed exhaust and adjustable dampersMid-engined, wide-body concept, reminiscent of the 1980s Renault 5 TurboComprehensive service history and a fresh MOT.The early Phase 1 cars are quickly achieving cult status and this impressively presented, well-maintained example may well turn out to be a rather shrewd investmentA spin-off from the ‘Clio Trophy’ race series and first previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 1998, the Clio V6 230 was in many ways the spiritual successor to the mid-engined 5-Turbo. Launched in 2001, the wide-hipped, mid-engined ‘baby supercar was broadly based on the Clio Mk II but the V6 variant actually shared very little with its standard counterpart. Where the rear seats would normally be, nestled a tweaked version of the proven and unstressed 3.0-litre, 24v, V6 unit from the Laguna saloon offering access to 227bhp (230PS) fed to the rear wheels and enabling 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and 146mph, not for the faint-hearted in such a diminutive ‘rocket ship’. The Phase 1 cars were assembled by hand at the Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) workshops in Uddevalla in Sweden, using parts shipped from France. This particular Clio V6 Sport was registered in April 2002 and is one of just 223 right-hand drive, UK-market, Phase 1 examples finished in the desirable hue of Iceberg Silver with a Charcoal interior. Having been previously offered by Silverstone Auctions in 2014, this is a superb example that we are delighted to offer once again. It benefits from some subtle refinements including a Janspeed exhaust, BMC airbox and adjustable dampers, all of which add to the overall ‘dynamique’ and is accompanied by a comprehensive service history and a fresh MOT.Described by Evo Magazine as one of the greatest cars Renault have ever offered, the Clio V6 is very quickly achieving cult status and has to be worthy of a slot in any serious collection or even a place on the show field should that be your remit. Classic car history often suggests that it’s the early cars that end up being the most sought-after and this Phase 1, the essence of modern mid-engine motoring 18 years ago, will no doubt be a classic in the future. An immaculate, low mileage, RHD example of the rare M491-bodied, 1989 Speedster.Built on the J-Series platform at Zuffenhausen for one year only (1989)Two body styles, 'Turbo Look' and standard. 2,104 built in total. Very few right-hand driveFinished in gleaming Grand Prix White with a Navy Blue leather interior, blue soft top and black-centred Fuchs alloys231bhp, 3164cc flat-six from the Carrera. 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and 150mphSupplied new by Porsche Melbourne and first registered on 17/08/1989Full service history, 7 stamps in the original service book. Most recent at 6,704 kmOriginal handbooks/wallet. Porsche Letter of Authenticity.Possibly the best original example available today.Inspired by the iconic 1950s Porsche 356 Speedster's unique low line look, Porsche introduced the Carrera 2-based Speedster as a concept at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was a two-seater based on the J-programme, ‘rubber bumper’ 911 and designed to relive the no-frills, top-down days of the original 356 Speedster. The new car was intended for “friends of open motoring,” as Porsche put it, and its roof was stored under a colour-coded polyurethane moulding on the rear deck, behind the driver and passenger’s heads. The seats were lower than normal, the aluminium-framed windscreen was raked back by five degrees and the side windows were frameless. The Speedster made it into production for one year only, 1989, and was available in two body styles: Turbo Look and standard, with the 935-style 'Slant-Nose' treatment available on either. 2,104 were built in total, primarily for Porsche’s two core markets, the United States and Germany and only a handful of right-hand drive cars made it to the UK.Performance from the 231bhp, 3164cc flat-six was well up to Porsche’s standards with a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph. Porsche was confident it was now building a powerful, reliable engine for the 911 and, from 1986, was offering a five-year, or 50,000 miles warranty. The Speedster was the last 911 model built on the basic bodyshell of the original, 1963 911 and the final 911 produced at the old Zuffenhausen factory as the 964 that followed was built on an all-new production line. This ‘as new’ example is a very rare right-hand drive car that has only covered 4,347 miles(6,947 km) and was supplied to Porsche Australia and delivered to its first owner Lindsay Fox by Hamiltons of Melbourne on 17-08-1989. Finished in Grand Prix White with Marine Blue Leatherette/Blue leather inserts and a Dark Blue Hood, the optional equipment included the Turbo Look (491), short gear lever, alarm and velour carpet to the luggage compartment. In 2005, the Speedster was purchased by New Zealander, Paul Halford, at the the Lindsay Fox Sale when it showed just 3,475 km. In 2015, it was exported to the UK and, at that point, the service book showed four stamps from ‘down under’ up to 5,570 km. Since then, it has had three UK services, first with the Porsche Centre Hatfield at 5,932 km in 2015, Porsche Swindon at 6,233 km in 2017 and Hexagon at 6,704 km in 2019. There are now seven stamps in the service records corroborating the incredibly low mileage. Make no mistake, this Speedster is as close as you will get to rolling off the production line in the Summer of 1989 and it's a credit to the four previous owners who have kept it in this remarkable condition. They do not come any better. We would welcome any enquiries from Australia and New Zealand and would help in its repatriation.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 SPEEDSTERYear: 1989Chassis Number: WPOZZZ91ZKS151747Engine Number: 64K05433/M93025Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 6704 KMMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlueClick here for more details and images

A well-engineered homage to BMW’s wild-child E21 Group 5 racers from the mid-seventies.On offer from Laranca, this remarkable BMW was built in Norway in 2015Total bare-shell rebuild using an 1981 E21 318. Formally titled ‘Group 5’, these cars became known as ‘Silhouette Cars’ and shared the same outline as current saloon models or GTs but the engineering was pure racing car technology. For 1976, the regulations changed offering just two classes with engine capacities above and below 2-litres.For the 2-Litre class, BMW developed a racing car based on their E21 320 (3-Series). These cars, with drivers including Surer, Cheever and Winkelhock (and later with Stuck, Peterson and Grohs) appeared in the German DRM series and in the Manufacturers’ World Championship from 1977 onwards. In 1978, BMW supplied components (and complete kits) for more than 30 cars and altogether it is thought that 36 factory-based Group 5 320s were constructed. They shared their 330bhp, 2-litre, 4-valve, M12/7 engine with Formula 2 and weighed about 730kg.This very special ‘Group 5’ Homage comes from the garage of the renowned marque experts, Laranca Engineering. This car was bought from a Norwegian enthusiast who built it in 2015 and there is an email from him to Laranca explaining the specification of the car, which we thought was easiest to simply list below:Shell:Total bare-shell rebuild using an ‘81 E21 318.Acid-dipped, primed and painted once metal work doneFIA-spec 6-point roll cage, modified rear 323 rear frame railBelieved to be circa 850 kg.Suspension:Special gas fully adjustable front and rear coil-oversWith matching springs front struts are made on original 323 lower struts, front has fully adjustable top mounting in alloy and strut-brace bar in alloyWith camber and toe adjustment eccentric bolts.Side loader differential from BMW 635 in alloy with 4.78:1 ratioGKN motorsport drive shaftsExterior:Body styling is copied from an original styling 1978 Group 5 from a German fabricator.Fibreglass bonnet, doors, front and rear wings, rear boot lidAdjustable spoiler, low-drag rear window spoiler, front spoiler, and sills.Split-rim 15” BBS alloys, 10.5” rear and 9.5” fronts.Brakes:Original 323 brake discs for front and rear. Well prepared, diminutive little BMW racer, the hero of many David and Goliath battles around Goodwood.Introduced at the 1959 Frankfurt Motor Show, the BMW 700 replaced the 600 and was to prove BMW’s financial saviourIn RS form the 700 performed well in motorsport, with Hans Stuck winning the 1960 German Hill Climb ChampionshipPrepared by marque experts Laranca Engineering, this example produces around 110bhp from its 950cc, twin cylinder engineRaced three times at Goodwood St Mary’s Trophy with vendor and Jackie Oliver2012 qualified 5th, 2016 qualified 6th and finished 6th, 2017 qualified 4th and finished 7th overall in the St Mary’s TrophyBuilt to HRDC 2011 Regulations and welcome at their eventsExtremely rare and interesting, remarkable value for money when you consider it’s a potential St Mary’s Trophy entrantIn the late 1950s, BMW commissioned a new car based on the 600 with an increased chassis length and this led to the development of the 700 available as a two-door Coupe and Saloon. The BMW 700 was aimed at the economy end of the car market with few luxuries but a distinctive angular shape. Both versions were shown at the 1959 Frankfurt Motor Show and proved a hit, with initial orders of 25,000. This provided a much needed boost for BMW's finances, which were nearing crisis at the time and led to the 700 being known as “The car that saved BMW”.The 700 weighed little – around 659kgs – and the rear mounted, motorcycle-derived, twin-cylinder, 697cc engine was an ingenious design producing 30bhp in original form breathing through a single Solex carburettor. Improved brakes and rack and pinion steering endowed the 700 with excellent driving characteristics. Later variants included the 40bhp 700 Sport, with twin carburettors, and the Luxus on a longer wheelbase. Unlikely as it seems, the 700 in RS form performed well in motorsport, with Hans Stuck winning the 1960 German Hill Climb Championship and Walter Schneider taking the 1961 German Saloon Car title. This particular 700 has been owned and raced by our vendor for the last few years, often with motorsport legend, Jackie Oliver, as his team mate. Indeed, it has competed three times in the ever-popular Goodwood Revival St Mary’s Trophy, thrilling the crowds by qualifying 5th in 2012 , in 2016 it qualified 6th and finished 6th, and qualified 4th in 2017 followed by a 7th place overall in the race. It has also been campaigned in various HRDC races bringing enjoyment and appreciation whenever it appears. It was prepared by marque experts Laranca engineering to HRDC 2011 Regulations, and a dyno-sheet in the cars accompanying history file shows a remarkable 110bhp from the 950 cc, 2 valves per cylinder, twin. Extremely rare and interesting, this 700 looks fantastic value for money when you consider it’s a potential St Mary’s Trophy entrant. On the button with an FIA/MSA HTP valid until the end of 2028.Dating from 1965, this venerable Sunbeam Tiger spent the first 25 years in Colorado with its first ownerReturned to the UK and purchased by our vendor in 1990Strengthened for competition. Photo-documented rebuild (No1) in 1990Fitted with an aluminium boot lid and hardtop (ex-Works)Rallied at home and in Europe during the following years and subsequently converted into racer in the late nineties. Full history and photos in fileRetired to our vendors collection for many years before total rebuild No. 2 in 2015/17 and more racing in 2018Centre piece on the Tiger stand at the NEC in 2018Massive spares package (incl 260ci engine). Four-volume history fileAccording to the Sunbeam Tiger Production Record, #000653 was finally assembled on 12/10/1965 prior to being finished in Mediterranean Blue, fitted with a hardtop, shipped to the United States and delivered to its first owner, American airman Michael Hercules. A small British sports car (albeit with a big V8) seems an unusual choice in Colorado but even more unusual is the fact that he kept it for 24 years. Unusually for a US car, its history Stateside is excellent with virtually every annual registration document from all over Colorado and California up to 1988 when it was re-registered to his wife, Anne in mid-1989.After import to the UK by Bruce Stevens, the Tiger was purchased by our vendor in 1990 and UK registered on 30/01/1991. In the history file there are pictures of the Sunbeam pre-shipment and after arriving here prior to commencing its first total rebuild. The chassis was sandblasted, carefully strengthened and seam welded in key areas, a steel firewall fabricated and with numerous new components, a tuned 260cubic inch engine and fresh paintwork, it was in effect a new vehicle. As always with long-term ownership and extensive rebuilding, there is no room here to detail the tens of thousands spent, so it’s best to refer to the 4-volume Owner’s File. The car competed in over 20 rallies in the following three years including the Welsh, Scottish and Network ‘Q’ RAC Rally as part of the British Championship with frequent podiums. It was also campaigned in Europe before competing and finishing the Classic Marathon Rally, Paris to Marrakesh covering over 3,000 miles.Fitted with an Aluminium boot lid and hardtop (the only ex-Works units known to exist-3 sets originally made for Rootes works cars), this versatile Tiger was adapted to circuit racing later in the 1990s competing at Silverstone, Lydden Hill, Donnington and Snetterton. Subsequently, the car was occasionally used as a road car before being allowed to rest for a few years whilst our vendor concentrated on his ex-Le Mans factory Tiger. The decision was taken in 2014 to awaken #000653 and the second major rebuild of its life was entrusted to Automotive Solutions in 2015/2017 repairing any minor damage from earlier years but with all body panels remaining as original including the aluminium hardtop and boot lid.For this rebuild, a complete Ford 289 Hi-Po (FIA-spec) engine was sourced. The engine is a genuine 1965 unit, verified by EDA in the history file. The full spec is in the file but includes a Tilton twin-plate competition clutch, Salisbury LSD rear axle, Thruxton-spec 4-pot aluminium calipers with vented discs, Tilton starter, Holley Blue fuel pump, servo, MSD ignition, competition battery, Zero-360 FIA fire extinguisher system and a Safety Devices FIA-spec full roll-cage were fitted. The engine was dyno’d at 397bhp with 70 lbs oil pressure. (further spec below and in the file). The detailed files contain photos of many parts that would allow rebuilding to a full road spec vehicle and are included in the price.Fresh out of the box in 2018, TIG 1950 (as it is now) enjoyed outings at Snetterton, Silverstone, Oulton Park and Spa and the year finished happily with the car being the centrepiece vehicle on the Tiger Owners stand at the Birmingham Classic Car Show.SpecificationMake: SUNBEAMModel: TIGERYear: 1965Chassis Number: B382000653Engine Number: TBADrive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: TBAClick here for more details and images
A well known competition Lotus which has been sympathetically restored over the years.Introduced in 1953, the Mk 6 is regarded as the first true LotusIt features a tubular space-frame steel chassis that weighed 25kg and stressed aluminium body panels form the floor, scuttle and sides#60 is powered by a Ford 100E with a rare Elva overhead inlet-valve conversion. Buckler three-speed, close-ratio gearboxOwned and raced in the late fifties by Sir John Whitmore (1961 British Saloon Car Champion)More recently it has competed in the Paul Matty Hill Climb ChampionshipFascinating history file containing dozens of photos, invoices, race results and FIA Historic paperworkComplete with a spare set of wheels with road tyresFirst things first, these little cars are known as Mk VI, Mk 6, Mark 6 or simply Lotus 6. The majority of people seem to refer to them as Mk VI, however the Chassis Plates on the cars are stamped M6/--- so we will stick with Mk 6, although a full page advert in a period magazine placed by Lotus (copy in the history file) refers to it as the new Lotus 6. Known as Colin Chapman's first production car, the Lotus Mk 6 was, however, sold mostly in component or "kit" configuration. This allowed a number of different powertrains to be fitted and helped it to conform to a variety of racing formulae. First offered in 1952, the Mk6 was built on a sophisticated Chapman-designed multi-tubular chassis constructed by Progress Chassis. The firm of Williams and Pritchard shaped the aluminium bodywork, while the mechanical components were sourced from the Ford Prefect.Quickly becoming a favourite among British club racers, the Mk6 introduced, for the first time in a series production car, Chapman's philosophy of "adding lightness" to boost performance. The tube-frame chassis weighed only 25kg (55 pounds) and the Mk6's total weight, depending on the drivetrain, was some 432kg (952 pounds). Despite the modest outputs from the engines used — which ranged from an 1172cc slide-valve Ford four up to a Coventry Climax — the car showed a top end of over 90 mph and lived up to Lotus advertising's claim for the Mk 6: "It's faster than you think!"Sir John Henry Douglas Whitmore, 2nd Baronet of Orsett Hall, Grays, Essex was a very well known and established racing driver of the sixties. Born into a land-owning family, John first turned to motorsports in 1956 and, after a spell of rallying and sprinting, began circuit racing with his Lotus 6 road car (this car #60) in 1958. The car was entered for 7 events (Oulton and Snetterton) with some success. On one occasion, Lotus boss Colin Chapman was having trouble shaking of young Whitmore who obviously impressed him, as early in 1959, he offered him a works drive at the Le Mans 24-Hours sharing a Lotus Elite with Jim Clark, the pair finishing 2nd in class. British Saloon Car Champion in 1961 driving a Mini, Sir John later became associated with Ford, driving a GT40 at Le Mans and the Targa Florio and subsequently was a member of Carroll Shelby's World Sportscar Championship-winning team. A brilliant career that began with this little Lotus, #60We do not have the early history of the car to hand but it would make an interesting research project for the car's new owner We believe it was fully restored around 1994/5 and there are some pictures in the file of the car in the back of a pick-up truck, resembling an Airfix Kit, prior to its restoration. However, when it was purchased on 02/07/2003 by its recent, long term owner, David Richardson from Malvern, it appears to have been restored. The car was sold to David by Cristophe Schwarz, who himself had bought it on 29/12/2002 and according to the Bill of Sale, it was accompanied by the original nose section and rear wings, Brooklands windscreen, History File and VSCC papers. There are simply dozens and dozens of invoices in the box file relating to David Richardson’s almost 20 years with the car and they amount to thousands of pounds. To appreciate the way this little car has been rebuilt, refreshed and generally maintained during this period, it’s worth spending a couple of hours with the file. It’s fascinating reading and also contains the original Buff Logbook (3/05/1955), FIA, HSCC and VSCC identity papers, the FIA HTP issued 8/08/2003, an Aldon Rolling Road print out, Ford Side-valve Owner’s Club Spares List, a v/rare illustrated period catalogue from Aquaplane, acres of invoices, set-up sheets, correspondence with Lotus and Elva, V5s, MOTs, an original advert for the Lotus 6- ‘Faster than you think’, and numerous photos. This is an important piece of Lotus and British Motorsport History, it’s still competitive in the right hands, is in excellent overall condition, and will offer its next custodian the chance to join the remarkably friendly bunch of Mark 6 owners. .SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: MK VIYear: 1955Chassis Number: 60Transmission: ManEngine Number: S85834Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
Fully prepared for the 2021 season by specialist John Smirthwaite Motorsport with a rebuilt engine.UK-registered on 08/02/1966 to the first of four former keepers, the current since 2014Converted to FIA-spec by TWJ Motorsport (2008-09) at a cost of over £41,000Further maintenance/preparation bills over five seasons amounted to £59,000 before its sale by Silverstone Auctions in 2014Recent works by specialist John Smirthwaite include an engine rebuild and new brakes. Not driven sinceV5C and a new FIA Historic Technical Passport issued in August 2020NB; Full details of the recent engine build and the car’s mechanical specification will follow shortly. This right-hand drive, UK-market Lotus Cortina was initially registered on the 8th February 1966 to the first of four former keepers. It was professionally converted to an FIA-specification race car by TWJ Motorsport in the winter of 2008-09 at a cost of over £41,000. It retains its UK V5C and thus could be road registered if required and subject to guidelines, making it also ideal for Tours or Historic Rallies. The large file of bills shows additional spend during five seasons totalling over £59,000 on refining the chassis and improving the engine and transmission to make it into a front running car on the European circuits, by its well known and highly respected privateer owner/driver who placed the car into our Race Retro Auction in February 2014.Subsequently purchased by a long-standing customer of Silverstone Auctions, the car has been a part of a collection of best of breed Jaguars, modern Ferraris and rare DTM ‘Homologation’ 1990s saloon cars. Our vendor informs us that the car "hasn't hit anything hard" during his ownership and he has thoroughly enjoyed driving it.The, apparently rebuilt, engine in the car at the time of our vendor’s purchase didn’t last the season as the sleeves in the old block had moved and so he turned to acclaimed Lotus Cortina specialist John Smirthwaite Motorsport of Coventry to fully prepare the car, rebuild the engine and install new brakes. The engine was rebuilt around a ‘new’ block and the detailed invoice for this work is in the car’s history file. The aluminium housings for the gearbox and diff were retained but the gearbox was stripped for a routine check and to install a reverse gear whilst the 4.7 diff was swapped for a 4.4 as the 4.7 was a bit low for long circuits (available if required). The car has not been driven since and was delivered directly from the John Smirthwaite Motorsports workshop to the auction hall. The car is presented to auction with the aforementioned history file of receipts, UK V5C and the August 2020-issued, FIA Historic Technical Passport. With its lightweight shell and decent handling, Ford’s engineers soon realised that the Cortina had genuine potential as a performance model and thus created the GT, by adding a Cosworth-tuned 1.5-litre version of the Kent four-cylinder engine, upgrading the transmission, brakes and suspension, installing a rev-counter to the steering column and extra dials in the centre console. The Cortina GT was soon selling in huge numbers as few cars could match its 95mph top speed or willing acceleration, at such an affordable price. Cortina GTs were homologated by Ford for rallying and notched up numerous wins in the mid-1960s, while the more potent Lotus version was developed for circuit racing. This delightful 1966 Cortina GT is a four-door example, finished in left-hand drive and exported to Switzerland where it has spent most of its life. It returned to the UK in 2016 and the registration number, UCA 487D was awarded by the DVLA in September of that year. There is a significant amount of history with UCA and naturally, most of that is in French or German, but we can see from the invoices that the car has been subject to a total nut and bolt restoration in France by Cedric Masier and Patrick Hugo around 2002 utilising “Genuine Ford Motorsport Period Upgrades”. It was rebuilt with a Lotus Cortina aluminium 4-speed, close-ratio box with Quaife internals (1-2.5, 2-1.66, 3-1.22, 4-1.1. Limited slip differential 3.9-1). It’s been set up with Lotus Cortina struts and dampers optimised for fast road use, Brembo discs, Girling pistons and Pagid fast-road pads. The engine is a GT pre-X-Flow with a big valve head, blueprinted, lightened and balanced with a Kent 244 cam fuelled by twin 45 Webers. Originally built by Burton Racing, there is an invoice in the file from Coltec Racing dated 22-12-2014 totalling £1,606 relating to a full engine strip, inspection, and rebuild including a new Kent 244 cam and followers and a repaint of the block in Holbay Green. It’s fitted with a competition clutch and a Race Stainless Steel exhaust (since changed). The interior was renewed back in 2012 and remains very smart with twin period-style bucket seats, Moto-Lita steering wheel, Brantz International Pro-2 Digital rally clock with remote, map light and Terratrip intercom with headsets. The GT continues to present really well in Ermine White with a distinctive Forest Green triple stripe and door roundels and the coachwork appears exceptionally straight remaining very tidy underneath. This is a good-looking period Rally Car and it’s classic appearance is enhanced by the silver alloys, Speedwell wing mirrors and four PIAA rally-spec front lights. We understand that the car has been enjoyed in light competition throughout Europe and even on the hugely challenging Monte Carlo Rallye and the Winter Raid it proved totally reliable.UCA was purchased by our vendor on 2/03/2019 and he informs us that during his ownership “I changed the silencer to make it less loud, changed the crown wheel and pinion from the 4.7 to a more roadworthy 3,9, fitted a new lightweight starter motor, renewed the interior carpet and soundproofing, changed the wheel studs so that it could take the Minilite wheels, fitted 5 new Revolution Minilites with new Toyo tyres, renewed the steering idler arm and associated bushes, and finally took it to a specialist to balance the twin Weber carbs.”Included in the large history files are technical articles, workshop manuals, vehicle manuals, the original ‘Carnet de Service’, magazine articles featuring this motor car, acres of invoices, the UK V5 registration document and much more. It's also supplied with six original steel rims with snow tyres. This not a weary, rally-rashed, Forest Ford but a delightfully presented Sixties sporting saloon that appears to have been cared for during its fifty years in Switzerland and certainly since it returned here in 2016. Only 59 Mk1 GTs are believed to be still current in the UK, and very few will be left-hand drive with four-doors, so this is a rare car in its own right. Prepared for road rallies, stage rallies, regularity runs or just chasing other Cortinas about on an Owner’s Club day out, this could be an ideal entry into the gently competitive word of classic rallying.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: CORTINAYear: 1966Chassis Number: BA78FU70443Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 120E-6015Make: Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
Small size, big character; an exceptional example ready to enjoy. The F is a real sweet-point for the classic Fiat 500 – old style badges, round binnacle, body-coloured dashboard and bags of characterExceptional example with remarkably low indicated mileage, fresh from a sympathetic cosmetic restoration and full engine rebuildThe car was sold by Bonhams 5 years ago, reportedly by its second owner, who had purchased it from a collector who had kept the car in a dehumidified garage for more than 40 years. It has been driven sparingly since then; now being sold from another privateer ownerAs part of its recent restoration, the car received a full engine rebuild, including new crankcases, and our vendor says that it starts and runs flawlessly todayApart from a Ferrari, no car is more recognisable as classically Italian than the FIAT 500. Replacement for FIAT's much-loved 500 'Topolino', the ‘Nuova’ 500 debuted in 1957. A radical departure from its predecessor's essentially pre-war design, FIAT's new baby featured unitary construction, an opening fabric roof and all-independent suspension while carrying its engine at the rear. The 479cc power unit was an air-cooled, overhead-valve twin and the gearbox a four-speeder.The austerity of the basic 500, was known as the 'Economica', was not well received initially, prompting the swift introduction of a revised and better-equipped model which first appeared towards the end of 1957 at the Turin Show. Refinements incorporated in this less spartan version included wind-down windows, an upholstered rear seat, column-mounted switch-gear stalks, and hubcaps. Introduced in 1960, the succeeding 500D used the 499.5cc engine of the 500 Sport in de-tuned form whilst, in 1965, that was superseded by the 500F, the latter's altered bodywork incorporating front-hinged doors and a shortened sunroof, whilst mechanical improvements included a strengthened transmission. Maximum power increased to 22bhp and the top speed to within a whisker of 60mph. An immense success for FIAT, almost 3,000,000 of these adorable little cars had been sold when production ceased in 1975. The 500 remains as popular today as it ever was, and only a few years ago was voted 'Sexiest Car' by the readers of Top Gear magazine. The car presented here is a 1969 Fiat 500F powered by the correct 499cc engine, married to a four-speed gearbox that has benefited from a recent aesthetic restoration and complete engine rebuild. It’s an outstanding example with remarkably low indicated mileage, the odometer nudging 430 kilometres, and whilst there is verification of this, there is additionally, correspondence in the accompanying history file from the previous owner supporting its accuracy. This splendid little car was originally Italian-registered, with the registration plates on the car suggesting that it enjoyed an earlier life in Palermo, Sicily. The car was sold by Bonhams five years ago, supposedly by its second owner, who had acquired it from a collector who had stored the car in a dry and well-insulated garage for more than 40 years. It has been driven only occasionally since then and is now offered for sale by a real classic car enthusiast.Today, this little 500 presents in superb condition. Only restored due to age no doubt, the white paintwork looks fresh and bright, and has been finished to a very good standard, the chrome and brightwork gleam in the sunshine, as do the hubcaps on the steel wheels. Inside, the black vinyl upholstery has most likely also been restored (but who knows, given the indicated mileage), and again appears in great condition. The interior benefits from appearing to be completely period/model-correct, with the stylish two-spoke steering wheel, round binnacle, and painted dashboard, all stand-out features of an F, in fine order. As part of the aforementioned restoration, the car benefited from a full engine rebuild, including new crankcases, and our vendor says that it performs flawlessly today, as does the gearbox operating smoothly with no concerning noises. Within the last six months, the front shock absorbers have been replaced with Ricambio items, and the front wheels have also been renewed. The car has not yet been UK registered, being sold from a small collection and used only on a private UK estate, but it’s a straightforward process, allowing it to be enjoyed around town and on country roads, where these little cars always surprise with their eagerness and ability to cover the miles. It’s supplied with its original jack and tools, registration documents from Italy, and the written reassurance of mileage from the person who sold the car in 2015.This super Fiat 500F presents in fantastic, restored condition but is believed to be a genuine very low-mileage example. With just two owners in Italy before its arrival in the UK, this car would happily grace any collection, however, its sheer mechanical fitness means it deserves to be road-registered and fully enjoyed and shown off to admirers, no other car raises as many smiles. Not to be missed, this really is as near to a ‘new’ classic 500 as you are likely to find. Thunderbird styling giving that 60's Gerry Anderson feel! One of the most stylish and well-constructed microcars of the eraAdvanced for its time with a load-bearing body, 4-wheel independent suspensionTwin-cylinder, 245cc air-cooled, two-stroke with 13.6bhp/ 4-speed plus reverseSuperbly presented in Mint Green with a white cap and in lovely condition throughoutCurrently supplied with a NOVA ready to be registered as requiredActive Owner’s Club in Germany and Micro Maniacs in the UKThe microcar market of late has seen a real surge in interest and this charming example ticks all the boxes.Founded in 1951, Hans Glas was a German motorbike manufacturer, active between 1951 and 1969. In 1955, they presented the Goggomobil, a microcar equipped with a rear-mounted, 2-stroke, air-cooled motorcycle engine with an initial displacement of 245cc, subsequently increased to 300cc and, in the final evolution, 400cc. Initially presented with saloon bodywork, the TS 250 Coupé made its debut at the 1957 IFMA international bicycle and motorcycle show and remained in production until 1969 with 66,511 cars finding buyers. It was particularly well-made, with modern refinements including a load-bearing body, 4-wheel independent suspension, and a 4-speed/ reverse gearbox with a floor mounted change. The bodywork was beautifully proportioned and is still attractive today with a 60s Gerry Anderson /Thunderbird feel. Hugely successful possibly because it was promoted as a "real" car in miniature, rather than one of the many hybrid ‘scooter-mobiles’ on the market at the time. The unusual name is derived from Hans Glas’ grandson who was a young enthusiast and who’s nickname was Goggi and from there Goggi Mobil quickly became Goggomobil. With over 250,000 built, a decent number survive, and they are supported by a very active owner’s club based in Germany and the ‘Micro Maniacs Microcar Club’ here in the UK.This superb TS 250 Coupé is finished in Mint Green with a White cap and a grey interior and is in exceptional condition throughout with lots of pocket-sized appeal. It was restored some years ago to its original factory specification, utilising correct parts wherever possible with handsome execution and attention to detail and has seen little use since. Externally, the paint finish is excellent, highlighting the ‘Thunderbird styling’, with superb panel fit and, once inside, you are greeted by Bakelite knobs and switches and a wonderful period steering wheel all of which adds to that Gerry Anderson feel! Currently not UK registered but is supplied with NOVA certification. The ‘microcar’ market of late has seen a real surge in interest and this diminutive and compact example ticks all the boxes. “They’re only original once”; one owner for 47 years, still factory finished/paint, fully recommisoned.105-series Giulia - the original light-weight sports-saloonOne Italian owner for almost 50 years, original paint and interior, never been apart nor weldedHigh-revving double overhead cam dual-carburetted alloy 1300cc engine, all-round disc brakes and a 5-speed gearbox1972 model with attractive metal grille and distinctively shaped boot lidRecent specialists’ report confirming its originality, plus £4,000 expenditure to recommission it for driving excellence; UK-registered and a full MOTA very rare find in this preserved stateBMW is often credited with inventing the modern sports saloon. By stuffing the potent 2-litre engine from its 2000C/CS coupes of the Sixties into a little Neue Klasse two-door, BMW created the iconic 2002. However, as with dentures, thermometers, and the carburettor itself, the origin of this new vehicle class may be better traced to the fertile land of da Vinci and Galileo: Italy. Some might credit the Alfa Romeo 1900 of the Fifties with starting the trend, but we submit that the requisite components didn’t really come together until Alfa’s subsequent release of the Giulia Super, which pre-ated BMW’s bite-size ‘bahn-burner by at least half a decade. And while the Bavarian made do with rear drum brakes, a single overhead-cam, single carburetted engine, two doors and only four forward speeds, the Alfa brought four-wheel discs, a high-revving double overhead-cam, dual-carburetted alloy engine, four doors and a standard five-speed gearbox.“So, it looks like a family saloon, but underneath the skin, it’s really a super touring car” says Santo Spadaro, a marque specialist and incurable ‘Alfisti’. Though the Giulia Super’s body may seem to follow the three-box paradigm, its aerodynamics were honed in a wind tunnel. “It actually has a lower coefficient of drag than the teardrop-shaped Porsche 911 of the same era,” Spadaro notes. The Alfa Romeo Giulia (105 Series) weighed about 1,000 kg and was equipped with a light alloy twin overhead-camshaft, four-cylinder engine, similar to that of the earlier Giulietta models range. Engine capacities offered were 1.3-litre or 1.6-litre. Various configurations of carburettors and tuning produced power outputs from about 80 to about 110bhp. Almost all Giulias made had a 5-speed manual gearbox and were noted for their lively performance among saloons of that era, especially considering the modest engine size. No wonder the Mini Coopers had trouble evading the chasing Giulia police cars in The Italian Job!The styling was quite straightforward, but with a great amount of detail. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped, but the grill, the rooflines and details on the bonnet and boot made for an integrated design from bumper to bumper. The car presented here is a second series (1972-1978) ‘Super 1.3’ example, being manufactured in 1972, so still features the more attractive metal front grille, characteristic centre spine, and shaped boot lid. In 1972 a rationalisation of the Giulia range saw the Super 1300 (Tipo 115.09) and the Super (Tipo 105.26) re-released as the Super 1.3 and Super 1.6. The two models featured the same equipment, interior and exterior trim, differing only in engine size (1290cc and 1570cc) and final drive ratio. A small Alfa Romeo badge on the C-pillar is a distinguishing feature, as are hubcaps with exposed wheel nuts. In 1974 Alfa dropped the Giulia name, with the model now being coined either a Nuova Super 1.3 or Nuova Super 1.6 which both featured a new black plastic front grille and a flat bonnet without the characteristic centre spine. This particular car has a fascinating story - AR 2275939 was delivered new from Milan to the Italian city of Pesaro in Marche to Senor Olimpio Gunnella on 30th June 1972. Olimpio adored his car, ensuring it was always garaged, literally only using it to go to church on a Sunday, notching up less than 2,000km a year, and taking it to a recorded 88,000km in 2021. The story goes, that on one of these weekly trips, it started to rain, so Olimpio simply turned the car around and drove it home, with church having to wait another week. Some 48 years later, and approaching 75 years of age himself, Olimpio took the decision last year, that it was finally time to part company with his precious car.Stories of such “auto-monogamy” are indeed most rare, not least when they are preserved so carefully in this way, but they are reflected in the immaculate originality of the car, from the underside to the interior, to the boot, and duly supported by a service history that includes 11 service stamps. The car is matching numbers, still in its factory Beige Cava paintwork, and has never required any form of welding. In 2001, the Alfa also received the formal Italian ASI Historical status and Certificate. In September 2020, our vendor managed to persuade Olimpio to sell to him the car, and on arrival in the UK immediately placed it with renowned Surrey based ‘DTR European Classic Car’ specialists, who carried out an independent and rigorous report across every aspect of the car from mechanical, bodywork and interior (copy available). Every issue identified, however minor, was addressed, costing c£4,000, and rounded off with a full service and MOT, again all on file. The car was then fully registered in the UK as ‘JMA 788K’, and nearly 50 years on, is fully prepared to embrace a second relationship. This ‘super’ Super 1.3 is everything an original and unmolested ’70s Alfa should be – full of character, style and lively to drive. Finding cars in this state of originality is still just possible in the quiet corners of Europe but is getting much harder. This really is one for the true ‘Alfisti’ – the passionate fans of these very special cars.SpecificationMake: ALFA ROMEOModel: GIULIA SUPER 1.3 SALOONYear: 1972Chassis Number: AR2275939 Transmission: Manual Engine Number: TBCDrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 88000 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: BrownClick here for more details and images
UK-supplied with a manual gearbox, enjoyed by the first owner until 2018 and recently featured on Top Gear.First registered on the 3rd August 1993 as a demonstration car by Neville Johnston ToyotaBought weeks later by the car’s second keeper who owned it until 2018, prior to our vendorBelieved to be one of just 623 UK-supplied cars from a worldwide production of some 47,000The six-speed manual Mk 4 (A80) is recognised as the rarest UK-supplied car, one of just 200Extensive recent invoices are present as well as historical receipts and the service book With an odometer reading of 77,950 (atoc) this car has had over £20,000 of cosmetic and mechanical worksSuch is its condition and rarity it was chosen to headline Top Gear’s televised item on the Mk 4 Supra in 2019.The highly-anticipated, fourth-generation (A80) Supra was finally unveiled at the 1993 Chicago Motor Show after four years in development under the guidance of chief engineer Isao Tsuzuki, who had also worked on the first Celica and both generations of MR2. Unlike anything Toyota had produced before, the A80’s proportions and flowing design owed more to the 2000GT of the Sixties than its predecessor. With a long, low bonnet line and high-rise optional rear spoiler it was aerodynamically efficient and clearly aimed at delivering a much higher top speed. Allied to a simplified engine line-up of either naturally aspirated or twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre JZ-series straight-six offering between 220bhp and 326bhp, top-spec turbo versions with Toyota’s first six-speed gearbox now offered ‘supercar’ performance. With its sumptuous leather interior and blistering performance, the new Supra was aimed squarely at the Porsche driver, some of whom were tempted. The marketing department at Toyota perhaps underestimated the badge snobbery raging among affluent, yet conservative, petrolheads of the mid-1990s and although the Supra had the looks of a supercar, the refinement of a Mercedes-Benz and 0 to 60mph to rival the Ferrari Testarossa TR at under 5 seconds, initial sales were slow. Toyota UK officially imported just 623 cars between 1993-1996 and these were only sold from 25 specially selected dealers. Production continued until 2002 and the Supra was destined to be an important footnote in the sports car hall of fame until it became an icon to a generation thanks to computer driving games ‘Forza’ and ‘Gran Tourismo’ a status only enhanced by its regular, heavily modified, appearances in the Fast and Furious film franchise.Believed to have been one of 200 manual-gearbox cars, out of a total UK-supplied run of 623, this twin-turbo ‘hard-top’ car with its six-speed Getrag gearbox was delivered in Lucerne Silver Metallic (199) with Ivory Leather (F00). First registered to Neville Johnston Toyota in Belfast as a dealership demonstrator on the 3rd August 1993, it was subsequently purchased by a gentleman who used it regularly, with main dealer servicing up until 2002, until it was acquired by our enthusiast vendor in 2018.His fascination with the Toyota Supra began in 1993 when, at the age of fourteen, he wrote to Toyota UK asking for a brochure and two weeks later it was carefully given pride of place on his bedroom wall. When he had the opportunity to buy this car in 2018 he had fulfilled the dream so few people have attained, owning his bedroom poster car, made more special that his poster car was silver, like his newly acquired Supra. The brochure is now mounted and framed in his study.Upon acquisition in September 2018, he undertook an extensive programme of cosmetic and mechanical works to make it the best example possible to join his low mileage Honda NSX and modern Ferrari. The list is too extensive to state here but full details can be supplied together with corresponding invoices. Parts were either obtained via the main dealer or sent directly from OEM suppliers in Japan, no expense being spared to ensure this car remained true to the day it was built. The cosmetic works were carried out by a professional classic car restoration workshop taking several months to complete including a complete clean underneath and Waxoyl undersealing. A full bare metal glass-out respray in original factory colours and using no body filler was completed in 2019. The work provided an opportunity to fit many new parts including a new OEM Windscreen and rear three-quarter windows, lower radiator support, new door trims and seals plus many more. The total cost including all new parts came close to £20,000. It has also recently undergone a full paint correction and detailing with ceramic coating applied. Invoices are available for all of this work. The mechanical works were carried out at Jemca Toyota of Reading by their senior mechanic who has specific knowledge of working on Supras from his many years with Toyota. Particular attention was paid to the engine and auxiliary components. A new clutch and flywheel were installed in 2019 with the all-important timing belt change completed. New brake discs, calipers and pads to complement the virtually all-new suspension have been installed along with a full steering geometry check and, in addition, a recent compression test by Toyota showed excellent readings on all cylinders. Three services have also been completed during our vendor’s ownership all by Toyota, the most recent being in October 2020 with a year’s MOT applied and no advisories along with a full Toyota health check for peace of mind. A new air conditioning condenser has been installed along with a full a/c service and the system is fully functional.Such is the condition of the car, it was chosen to headline a segment in Series 27 of Top Gear and a clip of the item from Episode 5 can be seen below. A new Thatcham Category 1 alarm and tracking device has also been fitted along with four new premium Continental tyres. Presented to auction with an odometer reading of 77,950, at the time of cataloguing, the history file is one of the most detailed we have seen for a modern car and includes the most recent receipts, original owner’s wallet with the service book together with period brochures and two keys.We are of the firm belief that this Supra is among the best examples available today and its rarity is only surpassed by its condition. Everything that a sports car should be, dynamic, rewarding and stimulating.UK-supplied by Derek Warwick HondaPresented in the classic combination of Formula Red/Black over black hideRecently detailed throughout and ceramic-coated. WowComplete health check by renowned NSX specialist and ex-Honda F1 R&D Engineer, KazJust 32,270 recorded miles at time of inspectionValuable and totally appropriate registration number NSX 6 includedThe legendary Honda NSX (New Sportscar Experimental) was developed by the Honda Motor Corporation between 1984 and its eventual launch in 1990. With the NSX, Honda produced the world’s first everyday-usable supercar, which left the Italian competition for dead in terms of reliability, practicality and build quality. These same qualities make it a joy to drive and own today. Its revolutionary chassis and suspension – all aluminium like the bodywork – making the car very light and extremely strong, were perfected at Suzuka with input from three-times F1 World Champion, Ayrton Senna. The NSX featured a state-of-the-art, 3.0-litre, 24-valve, V6 'VTEC' engine (Variable Valve Timing), and despite being developed during F1's turbo-era, the engine was normally aspirated. Equipped with this new valve timing technology, the free-revving all-alloy unit produced 270bhp initially, which was good enough for a top speed of 168 mph and a 0-60 mph time of less than 6.0 seconds. Those performance figures put the NSX on a par with Ferrari's 348 GTB, but in terms of comfort, ergonomics, driving dynamics, and build quality, the NSX was in a different league entirely. Sadly, this superiority was not translated into sales, and by the time production ceased in 2005 fewer than 20,000 NSXs had been sold – consequently making them relatively rare and much sought-after today.Supplied by Derek Warwick Honda, this 170mph, mid-engined, automatic gearbox, aluminium legend, is believed to have had spells of ownership within the UAE and Ireland returning to the UK just prior to being purchased by our vendor in 2014.Rated as one of the most reliable, docile and cost-effective ‘supercars’ money can buy, this particular example is finished in Formula Red with Black hide and a black roof, as used by Honda to launch the car back in 1990. Upon its purchase, the decision was taken to ensure that every aspect of the car was as it should be, so it was immediately booked in for a complete health check by renowned NSX specialist and ex-Honda F1 R&D Engineer ‘Kaz’, however, such is the demand for his services that twelve months passed before its turn came around. Pronounced fit for purpose with any minor areas of concern attended to, the Honda has been used sparingly since and cherished to this day, remaining with an impressively low recorded mileage of just 32,270 at the time of inspection.Recently detailed throughout and ceramic-coated, this gleaming NSX presents superbly in every respect and will not disappoint. It’s accompanied by a large history file containing the original handbooks, invoices, MOT Certificates and various magazine articles, and the very valuable Cherished Registration Number, NSX 6, will remain with the car.A usable supercar that can be enjoyed for a local jaunt to the shops or pressed into service for that road trip into Europe, turning heads as it goes, this great NSX represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the defining performance cars of the 1990s at a very attractive estimate. A stunning, low mileage example of the rare R8 Plus Quattro V10 S-A.Powered by a naturally aspirated 610bhp, 5.2-litre V10 that revs to a howling 8700rpmGenuine Supercar performance with 0-62mph in 3.1seconds and 205mphFinished in Ara Blue Crystal Effect with black quilted leather and blue stitchingIt has only covered 8,500 miles, just 2,300 in the last two yearsVery high spec car with £15,000 of optional extras from new (£148,000)This is essentially a Lamborghini Huracan in a German business suitThe second generation of the R8, having the model code Type 4S, was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and is based on the Modular Sports System platform shared with the Lamborghini Huracan. The development of the Type 4S commenced in late 2013 and was and was completed in late-2014 with initial models including the all-electric e-Tron and the V10 5.2 FSI along with the V10 plus.Unlike its predecessor, there was no manual transmission available and the entry-level V8 trim was also dropped. The new R8 came with an updated new look on the outside and radical changes to the interior including the new interactive cockpit dashboard that tailors everything to driver involvement. The body is lighter and stiffer, due to the substitution of several large aluminium parts in the shell by carbon fibre. Extra electronics are incorporated in the chassis as compared to the first generation to improve handling and the R8 Plus is fitted with the 5.2-litre V10 that produces 610bhp, a 60bhp increase over the first generation plus offering 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds, all controlled by Audi's famous Quattro drive system. On offer today is a stunning example of the R8 Plus Quattro V10 first registered on the 1st of July 2016, finished in Ara Blue Crystal Effect with a beautiful black quilted leather interior and the seats stitched in Blue to complement the exterior. The car was highly specified from new and came with the following options,Driver assistance packCruise controlReversing cameraSound and Comfort packIlluminated door sill trimsBang and Olufsen sound systemFull leather packageSport plus packFull sports exhaustAudi Magnetic rideDynamic steering and 20” 10-spoke ‘Y’ alloy wheelsIt’s accompanied by its original Audi Book Pack and has been maintained by Audi Halesowen since new. Our vendor has covered a mere 2,300 miles in the last two years which is the main reason for the sale of this very special Audi and being retired, he feels the time is right to downsize! The car drives as you might expect given that it’s only four years old, has covered a tiny mileage and has been fastidiously maintained, however, on the way down to the auction house, an oil service requirement within the next 25 days was flagged up (time period requirement not mileage) so this will need doing. There is a quotation sent from Audi Halesowen in the book pack for £400.00 to undertake this requirement and this will be allowed for at the point of sale. The R8 Plus V10 is one of the most usable well-rounded supercars in the world today and it’s also one of the most engaging. The naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 revs to 8700, by which point it’s howling like a Grand Prix engine of past times, handling is sublime, the state-of-the-art electronics keep everybody safe and Audi’s build quality is legendary. This lovely Ara Blue example has covered less than 9,000 miles and having cost over £148,000 new just over four years ago appears very sensibly guided. It definitely warrants consideration.SpecificationMake: AUDIModel: R8Year: 2016Chassis Number: WUAZZZFX0G7901069Transmission: AutoEngine Number: CSPA002448Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 8500 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
