Kenneth Rowntree, a jug of tall cylindrical form, painted with initials "KR" for Kenneth Rowntree and "DR" for Diana Rowntree, between an artist's palette and a stylised Rowntree; on a Grimwades blank late 1940's; together with a similar jug decorated with letters "E F G H" and small vignettes including a plane, steam engine and picnic. (both 8ins 20cms tall) (alphabet jug chipped on spout) NB. The Grimwades mark has the Government Ceramics Trade Scheme classification, dating it to between 1941-1950, making it most likely to have been decorated by Rowntree whilst living at Great Bardfield in Essex. The style of decoration is clearly influenced by their friends (and Bardfield neighbours) Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden.
